Glitcher:My friend you are losing me. Money is being spent on Warri and other ports, let Warri and other ports handle MORE of what they can handle, let Lagos handle what it can handle. Your argument sounds like because Warri cannot handle the biggest ships upgrading it and more talraffic even if they are smaller ships won’t bring economic benefits or decongest Lagos? Seriously? Has it also occurred to you that when Warri is upgraded more “smaller” ships will go to warri because there costs will be lower in Warri? We want all our ports viable and working, plus warri plus Lagos plus onne plus Calabar plus others plus new ones. Ports ultimately become specialized in the comparative advantage they offer. In the US for instance, Baltimore I think is the main port for cars, other ports are renowned for oil and gas shipments, some are renown for passenger ferries and cruises like same thing with ports like Hamburg, Rotterdam, felixstowe, Harwich, Ostend etc etc. Not every port must be a sea port my friend.not every port must handle the biggest ships to bring economic benefits. |

rotadeco27:Leave Nigerians and their nonsense!! We are not serious people. Somebody is prepared to privately finance a transformational $15b road for you and you saying it is a waste of money. Is it your money? Do you have that kind of money? Your entire budget for 2024 is $20b and you think it is government building a $15b road? You think a govt that only has $20b budget in a year can ever build a $15b road? How daft are these people? Seriously…how daft are they? |
The ignorance of Obi and many of those criticizing this project is they assume govt is paying for it. Govt is only paying a small percentage of the cost of the project. The project is being financed by private funds and will be recouped from tolls. Govt does not have and can can never find the N15 trillion required for this project. That is more than half our entire budget for 2024.. If Obi truly thinks it is the govt building this road, then it is more proof he is ignorant and has no business being president of the country. You are a tenant. A house costs 50m and you cannot afford to build but a developer says pay me 10% up front, I will build the house for you, you will pay me rent you are already paying to a landlord and after 25 years I will have made my profit and the house belongs to you. Will you not agree? Do you have 50m to build a house? Imagine then some simpletons (Obi and his mob) come to say it is a waste of money? Which money? Is the 50m your own money!!! It is only in Nigeria that they will ask you to put down N1trillion as your own contribution towards building a road costing N15 trillion and you will say it is a waste of money!!! It is only Nigeria a tenant will be offered to pay 5m today to own a house worth N50m and he will say it is a waste of money. We are cursed with dead brain cells!! |
Promismike:1: Dangote refinery is enough to handle ALL Nigerias fuel needs once it comes on board. All the other refineries are being rehabilitated. 2: if you are oorepared to pay the economic price of electricity, electricity will be available and constant. Ask those on Band A! |
Glitcher:What we need are more ports away from Lagos that can handle roro, container vessels and general merchandise.. Warri port is all of these! Is it until a port is on the sea before it can handle containers and roro? Is the point of a port not a point to facilitate imports and exports of goods? |
They should also recover their stolen wealth from Chinedu’s father in law. |
Nigerian journalists are so useless. A proper journalist would have told you the make and age of the car and the age of the the woman. |
Dera1000:I know this is of no comfort but the pain we are all feeling is the result of successive governments not doing the right things over the years. Now the chickens have come home to roost. Irrespective of whoever became president in 2023, we would be going through the hardship we are going through now because the country was more or less bankrupt. You say you work in finance so I am sure you understand the dynamics. We had 2 paths on May 29, the path of Venezuela/Argentina or the path of reforms…both paths are painful. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you.. The one thing I agree with you is that the rest of the country cannot be suffering the pains while some continue as usual with government funds. No govt official has any business driving a Lexus or land cruiser or foreign made vehicle at taxpayers expense while they tell the rest of the country to endure. It is bad optics and this is where the opposition should be doing their job but they are not because they themselves are in disarray. This is why I say we should focus on the opposition and their incompetence because governments tend to lose their way ( even if they start well) when they know the opposition has no bite, ie they have no chance of toppling them. As for prices of deodorants etc, I also have seen things in the shops that I consider ridiculous to the point that I refuse to buy irrespective of whether I have the money or not. |
Queengee:In an inflationary environment, you don’t save, you spend. What you delay purchasing today with money you have but choose to ‘save’, you won’t be able to buy tomorrow because the price has gone up. |
Dera1000:Trust me, it’s the opposition you should be worrying about. You may not appreciate it now but Tinubu has done more in 1 year than all presidents in the last 24! They all gave you short term comforts and that is why we are in the mess we are. You cannot see the results today because lasting reform takes time. For example when Awolowo started free education he was insulted, his shed schools were mocked, pfarmers complained about the taxes he imposed to fund it. it took Twenty years for the effect of mass education to be seen, when those students started to graduate. Today even his enemies hail him as a visionary and a hero. You don’t enrol your child in primary school and see him become a graduate tomorrow, next week, next month or next year. But while he goes through the process, you endure the pain of the struggle to finance that education. If you want to send your child to school today and expect a g radiate tomorrow, or expect you will not have to struggle to pay fees and other costs, you are not ready to have an educated child. They forget they were the same people who complained and mocked him. Our tendency for short termism is why we are in the mess we are… not Tinubu. Tinubu is not the one that did not rehabilitate a single refinery while spending almost $10b a year on subsidies for 24 years. Tinubu was not the one that subsidized the Naira for 24 years and allowed bankers and business men to make money roundtripping the Naira for 24 years without creating any factories. Etc etc etc Like I said focus on the ineptitude of the opposition, a government no matter how good requires a formidable opposition to keep it honest. Right now PDP/LP are not an opposition because they can’t win an election the way they are going in the next 2 decades. They have not shown from their utterances and actions that they understand why they lost an election they had no right to lose. All they are doing is just noise and that is dangerous because it leads to complacency of govt. you don’t win elections by propaganda, you win by strategic planning. Atiku and Obi have been focusing on propaganda and not on strategy. It does not matter how many times you abuse Tinubu or criticize the govt or how manny boreholes you commission in the North or how many mosques you visit. The people that didn’t vote for Obi or Atiku in 2023 are not going to vote for them in 2027. Tinubu paid no attention to both during the campaign to the extent of not even dignifying them by attending a debate and won because he was strategic. He knew the people that watch debates are largely elites who are a minority and don’t decide elections. And if you cannot win an election, you are just as useless an opposition as Sowore because you are not a threat politically to the govt. Focus your energies on Atiku and Obi because the path they are on means even if you do not like Tinubu or APC, they will continue to be in power until OBi and PDP and their supporters reset their brains. You cannot take a path that failed you in 2019, got even worse for you in 2023 and then double down on that path and think it will lead you to the promised land. |
Sowunmi thinks he is smart. He is trying to use reverse psychology to appear sympathetic and hopefully woo Bello and El Rufai to PDP. He should realize that thanks to Obi and Atiku PDP is finished and any hopes of them regaining power at the center is dead thanks to Obi. The more he opens his mouth to grab the headlines, the more difficult it is for him to swallow humble pie and reconcile with PDP. He can’t become president without PDP (many of whom will never forgive him and give him their ticket) and PDP cannot win the presidency without his Ibo votes. Obi is a regional candidate PDP is a state party. One day APC will lose power, the party that will wrestle power from them will not be PDP and it won’t be LP and the presidential candidate will not be Atiku or Obi. It also will not happen in the next 15 years…possibly even 23! People seem not to grasp the mortal blow OBi and Atiku have dealt to the concept of a meaningful opposition. Statements like this from Showunmi and Obi’s daily utterances show they don’t know the magnitude of the problem they created for themselves and face going forward. |
WantsandMore:It’s part of the inefficiencies of decades of subsidies in all aspects of our lives. Like you said even our house designs pay no consideration to energy consumption because energy was so cheap. Big rooms require more energy to cool, we do t design houses for natural cooling etc etc. this inefficiencies caused by subsidies is pervasive in all aspects of Nigerian life and it’s why we have nothing to export because we are so inefficient our products are not competitive with t(e exception of Crude Oil and even the. We’ve managed to cripple that industry because the Nigeria. Pysche has not been programmed to be efficient. Ask anyone who lives abroad, even window glazing to keep the heat/cold in, door and window seals to keep out air draft and possible heat exchanges to keep the home cooling/heating more efficient are a big deal. Ask a typical Nigerian how much power his appliances use he doesn’t know. The average westerner considers the fuel consumption of his car or the wattage and efficiency of his appliances as a factor in purchasing decisions. The good thing is hopefully we have started a process that can’t be reversed, Nigerians will be forced to focus on fuel/energy consumption in their purchase choices. |
ppogba:In fairness, security lights are necessary and especially in these days of LED lightbulbs they don’t consume much. AC is the real power guzzler. AC can consume in 1hr what your lights will consume the whole night. As an example if I were relying solely on NEPA (no solar). And do not use AC for a whole month, my electricity bill will be approx 70-100k a month at the new band A rate of 246/kWh. If I used my AC reasonably for a month, it would be N700k a month. If I used AC like I used to 10 years ago, God knows what the NEPA bill would be today. NOTE: these AC,s are normal compressor ACs. Inverter ACs will be less but still a lot. |
Dynamicboss:I wasn’t a fan of Adelabu and wondered for months what does this man do? He was no1 on my ministers to be sacked! I may ev even have posted as much on Nairaland. I was so sad We missed the opportunity of ElRufai in power. However painful as it may be, just like petrol subsidy removal, this could be just about the best thing that can happen to power sector. I have changed my opinion on Adelabu and am willing to give him time to see the effect of his reforms. We have certain structural long-standing issues in Nigeria that have plagued us for decades. We all want solutions but painful as it is the solutions will not come without pain. |
kingzjay:There was a time many years ago when the AC in my room was on 24/7 whether I was home or not because I liked coming home to a cool room. The tarrif increase before this one was when I stopped. I live in an area with stable electricity and electricity was very cheap. I also remember when I was a child that my dad always left the AC in his office on. So to that point the minister has a point that subsidizing electricity had inculcated bad habits in us as a people. The example he gave about freezer was a bad one. 1) because a lot of freezers don’t actually consume much power and 2) AC is the real power guzzler. It was when I first installed solar when diesel went to N700 that I realized just how much power ACs consume and that all the noise I was making in the house over people leaving lights on was inconsequential relative to what the ACs consume. When I lived abroad then no born me to leave ordinary light bulb on if I am not in the room talk less leave the house heater on when I am out. Same with petrol…the way I drove abroad with expensive petrol (and more importantly the constant questioning if the journey is necessary) was different from In Nigeria with cheap petrol. Subsidies do indeed create bad habits. Nigeria is a very unproductive country and one (I said one not “the”) reason is subsidies in almost everything, petrol, forex, tertiary education, electricity etc. when everything is subsidized you lose creativity and innovation and ultimately your productivity. In lay man’s language you become lazy and entitled when things are done for you. |
There is a minister called Akali? As far as tourism, whoever heads that ministry has the easiest job…there is nothing to deliver and a plethora of legitimate reasons why it is unreasonable in the near future to expect any progress in that sector. Tourism cannot take off in Nigeria without infrastructure, roads, adequate security, hospitality etc so we might as well scrap it for now. We that are in Nigeria are afraid to travel to explore our country because of these reasons, so why would a foreigner when there are other countries to explore with requisite infrastructure? Ministry of tourism should be scrapped and any skilled sector staff deployed to foreign affairs and culture ministries until such a time when we have fixed the underlying infrastructure necessary for toirism. |
Dpharisee:It shows how ignorant many of you are. Government is fixing existing roads with government money. At the same time they are building new roads like Lagos Calabar, sokoto Calabar by allowing private capital to build those roads. What the govt is putting down towards the Lagos-Calabar road is only a fraction of the cost. The. Rest of the money will be financed by private capital and they will recoup their money through tolls. That leaves the govt to use. Existing funds to fix existing roads. It’s not one or the other. It is fixing existing while also constructing new roads. |
Glitcher:They are doing that. Warri port is being expanded and upgraded. |
My band A at an average of 100+kwh a day would ordinarily be 700k+ a month. Thanks to Solar, I think this month will be about 400k. My plan is to add more panels and more batteries. Also plan to change all my acs to inverter acs |
paramakina202:They way they reason requires medical research. |
fatboyslym007:If you had any sense, any reasoning faculties, any iota of grey matter, you would be more focused on the damage that has been done to us such that in an exchange between 2 custodians of our culture they feel a need to communicate in English. What culture are they preserving by that? This should be your focus…the damage to our traditional institutions such that not only do they not know accurately their history, they don’t speak their language. How supposed emissaries from the great Benin Kingdom visit the palace of the OOni of Ife and they are speaking English! |
Ever8090:Exactly! It is either the story isn’t true or the woman truly has no shame (let be honest a lot of modern day women have no shame). Otherwise how do you use your own hands to make a video to expose yourself and your family to the world? It’s bad enough you’ve been caught, if it were true you’d keep quiet. You’d only make a video if you are so far gone down the rabbit hole of deception and immorality you don’t know this is not something you share with the world. If not for her sake, for the sake of her family and children. Even a sensible man who found out a child is not his will think twice before telling the world, he will just quietly part ways and move on because it is embarrassing to him too. |
Laple0541:Were you dropped as a child? 1 it is illegal to charge in dollars 2 they were a willing partner in money laundering. |
fatboyslym007:Back in the day I would have suggested you go back to night school but these days there are many reaso urges online to improve your English comprehension. Your last few posts have been diversionary seeking to move the discussion away from topic. This is classic tactic of this who either failed to grasp the subject matter due to poor Conprehension or those whose presence in a discussion is a sick measuring ego contest and they have no leg to stand on. The point is one which you admitted in your original post….the recent Oba on Benin dynasty has its roots in Ife royalty. A point you failed to grasp due to your poor education. anything else is just noise! The minute you were typing “I am Yoruba” in one of your replies is the moment you should have realized you have lost the intellectual argument and are appealing to emotion and sentiments. Your tribe has nothing to do with the argument if your facts are sacred and you are sticking to the topic. Spare us and the rest of the forum as we both have nothing meaningful left to contribute on the subject matter and I am not here to score points or argue ad infinitum over nothing. You goofed, take your L and move on and next time engage your brain before you jump into peoples mentions when they did not quote you. |
fatboyslym007:Nigerians lack English comprehension. That is why a so-called English speaking nation is required to take English proficiency examinations as a pre condition to admission. Your poor English comprehension and predisposition for emotional arguments is why you (and the average Nigerian) can’t stay on topic……and why you fail exams. The topic is what is the historical link between the Yorubas and the Benin people? A poster suggested a scenario that explains that there is none and the people are distinct. However the the rulers of Benin have historical links to the Yorubas. This e cola nation put forward explains plausibly the Ife/Benin dichotomy which is the subkject at hand and it is all anyone cares about. Who conquered who, how a yoruba man became oba is irrelevant in this context especially as you do not dispute that a yoruba man became oba of Benin.. Like a typical Nigerian with poor comprehension, you are trying to answer a question or introduce a subject nobody asked you or cares about. So long as you do not dispute that, there is nothing more to say. You can argue with yourself over conquer or otherwise. That’s your business. Most people are only interested in the association if any between the Yorubas and the Benin. And I think that has been plausibly established and even you do not deny. To continue any further will be to keep an idle jobless man occupied with my time. Is there a link between the people of Benin and the Yorubas….No! Is there a link between the oba of Benin and the Yoruba obas (Ife) …yes! Just like Is there a link between the people of ilorin and the people of Sokoto ….No! Is there a blood link between the emirs of ilorin and sultan of sokoto …yes! End of story! |
fatboyslym007:You are coming at this from a point of view of ego, emotion and not facts or possibly just lack of intelligence. I don’t know what the argument is here fatboyslym007:You have admitted the above, what are you then arguing over? The word “conquer”? Are you that petty? A foreigner is ruling over you is the word conquer the issue? Does it matter whether the British waged war over Nigeria or that we signed our rights way, is that the issue or the fact that the British ruled us however it may have been? Speaking of conquer by your definition, is it not even better to be conquered by war than to willing sign over your sovereignty to a foreigner like Nigeria did? However it came about that a Yoruba man became Oba of Benin and established a dynasty is irrelevant. Please I don’t have the time to be frivolously mentioned by or to engage dimwits. The point is the Ife Benin dichotomy can be explained by a royal family that has roots in Ife, while the peoples are separate in origin. The question what is the real association if any between the yorubas and the Benin people. That historically speaking is of more importance to most people than the nonsense you are trying to bring up. The rest is just noise and I am done with you. |

GlaxoSmithKline and their likes never invested such sums in Nigeria. In the decades they were in Nigeria they never felt they should invest in local APIs. Brain dead Nigerians were sad when they left and I said at the time they are parasites and the reason they were leaving was because they could not compete with locals and that the void will be filled by locals. Now we see. |
fatboyslym007:You chose one convenient definition. In addition to you deficiencies in English or possibly contributing to your deficiencies you do not know how to use a dictionary. That was just one definition, these are others. With your own hands, with your own brain, in your own words, you concede the yorubas set up an oba dynasty in Benin that continues till today. That’s is all that is relevant. I get it, you are sentimental, you are petty, You don’t like the word conquest even though you admit a foreigner set up a kingdom and a foreigner ruling over a foreign people is definition of a conquest. A foreigner becomes king in your land and you say you were not conquered…what is a foreigner doing as king? Not all history is flattering but history is history….Fulanis are kings in ilorin whether a Yoruba man likes it or not they were conquered, Britain conquered Nigeria and established an extension of their kingdom, they did not wage a war to do it, the Hausas are ruled by Fulani “foreigners”. History is about facts not convenience.I am not here to argue with nincompoops over semantics. Those reading with a brain have understood the point. Foreigners from Yoruba land clearly ruled and continue to rule over Benin even though the people of Benin are not from Yoruba land.
|
fatboyslym007:Can you read? If so do you understand English? What did you write what did I write? How does a Yoruba prince establish an Oba dynasty in Benin land if not by conquest? How did the British establish a kingdom in Nigeria. Oga not all conquests are by swords or barrel of the gun. The minute a foreigner sets up a kingdom over the natives, they have been conquered. Whether by sword, by war, by gun or by signing a treaty or or the people voluntarily saying come and be our King. All conquest and conquest. You don’t don’t know what conquer means. Conquer means to “gain control of”. The means by which that happens is irrelevant to the definition. This account makes a lot of sense and possibly accounts for the disparity in history of the linkage between the Beni people and the yorubas. The Royalty have linkage somewhere in history but the people are different. |
mohims:We later discovered he has a house in London thanks to panama papers. The man lies with such ease it is scary for his own sake. |
DmonSlayer10:Oga Obi himself has never denied it, he confirmed it many times. He invested 5% for his family business and 10% for the state. If EFCC or ICPC went after every corrupt politician, there will be no politicians left in Nigeria. If EFCC went after OBi the ibos will be the ones shouting claiming persecution. Your question is like saying why hasn’t the EFCC gone after people like Babangida? That the EFCC hasn’t gone for them doesn’t mean they are clean.
