TravelRe: ~ What Is It With Africans & Excess Baggage? ~ by damiso(f): 11:08am On Jan 05, 2009
landis:
we have extended 'family' and believe that anything from abroad is better than at home.

This perception comes thanks to colonialism and immediate leaders that took over after the colonist were chased away.

1. the colonialist created GRA; because the 'natives' were too backward: so native assumes anything from colonist must be good.
2. the new post independence leaders moved into ex-colonist houses and go to their country; they further alienate their 'natives people'

3. the 'new natives that could travel also have to BRING many things back to show their are no longer natives.

And so it shape our lives. The effect of colonialism NEVER go away. It is stays with you forever!
Don't entirely agree with you on this.AFRICANS have excess luggage all the time,be it TO and FROM home.Have you not noticed the way custom and qurantine officers target flights from Africa at heathrow.Come and see humongous bags filled with crayfish, dry pepper, pomo, indomie noodles etc(as if they don't sell all this things in london huh).My mom really embarasses me with this and we always argue whenever i am travelling because i always insist that i am not going to be stressed before my flight( i hate flying). The enemies that you will make when you insist that your luggage is full nko?Even if you are going to america from London, loads of people will still call you to buy this and that when coming back as there is this impression that things are cheaper in America. So i don't thinks its a colonial thing, its unexplainable(pardon my grammar).I have only had excess luggage once(thanks to my mom) and i have vowed never to be that embarassed again.i can't even try it when travelling with my hubby because them na britico and he will just ignore you at the check in counter because he would have been warningyou from home about what you are carrying that is unnecessary.

I have decided to take M'Chic view by not telling anyone that  i know is a 'luggage pest' when i am travelling.and believe me there are loads of them in my family(oftentimes older relations angry)

A scene from one of the governors' meeting:

Gov. Aliyu: Our main aim in Niger is how to up lift the state and the north in general.
Gov. Amechi: Security is our main problem in Rivers.
Gov. Fashola: I'm working on 4 fronts in Lagos- education, economy, security, and power supply in that order.
Gov. Yuguda: ---starring blindly into the air, his mind wandering, he begins to imagine which wife has to satisfy best tonight. "Whose turn is it?" he said loudly enough.
V.P Goodluck(chairing the meeting): Gov. Yuguda feel free to jump in any time, would you start with number 1, 2, 3, or 4?
This post is really funny grin
PoliticsRe: Thisday Awards: Best Governors Of 2008 Emerge by damiso(f): 1:57pm On Jan 02, 2009
SegzyJoe:
@post
did anyone here remember that Fayose was once declared as the best governor by the same newspaper, and about 3months later the guy went underground as he was been chased by efcc for looting money meant for poultry farm project in the state.

Thisday's owner is a business man, a showbiz man who is exploiting vainglory corrupt politician to make money in Nigera. Those awards did not come with any evidenced based criteria rather by how much the benefactor can offer, I was told by a journalist friend that some of them offered as much as 50m to 100m for various categories of these awards.

Why can't we have such awards as best student in Nigeria, best school, best police officer, best entreprenural, etc that can not pay millions to get this award.

Men, thisday is in this for the pay, I think all this spurioous awards need to be regulated one way or the other, they insult our sensibility and common intelligence.
I totally concur with the bolded point,I think the word should be more like commendation not AWARD.AWARDS are meant to be used to reward OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE or service.and most of what they have done is part of their job description, not outwith so for me they deserve no awards, the same way an employee who does ONLY what he is paid to do deserves no special recognition or awards.cos that is what governors are;EMPLOYEES of the people.

I pity you all.

come 2009, there will be 1600 people out of jobs on a daily basis, and these will include those Nigerians who have felt there is no place to live but the UK, and when they are out of jobs, there will be nothing to fall back upon, because, it is not easy having savings up in the UK, and what happens to them, they wont be able to come back home to Naigeria, because they had always seen nothing good in Nigeria, they had always focused on the good life of light, electricity, good roads, etc, and whn the time comes, these things are what they will eat, because there wont just be no place for them in Nigeria.
Sheeeesh huh why the gloating?and who told you there wont be no place for them in Nigeria?I have followed your posts and you seem like the sort who would rejoice at other people's misfortune? Why not spare a thought for those people in NIGERIA who are being supported by this people?I know loads of families whose breadwinners are these people you are gloating about.Nigeria is a paradise we know ati gbo. angry People dont lose their jobs in nigeria, everybody in nigeria has 10 million naira in their savings acct we have heard.
PoliticsRe: 1600 People To Loose Their Job Daily In The Uk In 2009 - Are You Scared? by damiso(f): 1:15pm On Dec 29, 2008
Had that worry as well a couple of months back when the company i work for acquired another ailing company into the group.Come and see mad speculation as we knew that they would be duplication of roles,it took a meeting with the head of our SBU to actually slightly allay people's fears about their job security. At the end of year briefing, they still kept on hammering on the fact that we did not have to worry, we are in a good place bla bla as they don't want the gloom to start affecting staff productivity.Even promised bigger bonuses as we did well in the last year.Still does not make people comfortable as am sure the executive at Lehman bros,Goldman Sachs etc said the same.

Guess we just have to be optimistic as me i don't want to be gloomy in 2009, as i said earlier the Lord is my suffiency.Guess i just have to save more and reduce my 'ojukokoro' shopping sprees sad.God help me undecided

Me and pepper grin Love PEPPER.always a source of conflict in my house cos me i love pepper and my hubby is pepperless, i sha wont be cooking two stews,so what i feel is middle ground and not too peppery is still too hot for the poor guy's taste buds.I wonder how i will be when am pregnant cos when some certain foods are not peppery i feel like throwing up.I even add extra dry pepper to my indomie noodles,if not il throw up.

I have always wondered this as well.its happens alot in naija churches as it does also in  my church because the pastor is always travelling.and yeah sometimes the sermon lacks something can't quite put my hand on it.This also leads me to ask another question,Must every pastor's wife also be a pasor?Every church i have always attended has the pastor's wife being a pastor too.So does this mean husband calling as preacher(because i am aware that the wife may have a diff ministry or calling) equals the wife's calling as well?
@Luca do you worship @ Jubilee parish of RCCG? if not i think i know who your pastor wife is wink
TravelRe: Do You Still Want To Come To The Uk?: Written By Yusuf Danesi by damiso(f): 11:03am On Dec 29, 2008
Nice assesment of the situation.I remember how those 'your application has been unsuccessful' used to really get on my nerves and also 'you do not have Uk experience' for a job that i did more than at my job in nigeria.Fortunately for me though i do not have the HSMP constraint but it was really depressing.Thank God at the end of the day i eventually got a job commensurate to my skills, experience, and qualifications. It was more like a divine favour thing as i was almost going to start a job as a station assistant in a train station.I just needed to get out of the house, thank God my husband just kept on encouraging me that i would get something better(guess the fact that there was no pressure for bills helped as well).

Hope anyone applying for the HSMP with a well paying job in Nigeria will read this before deciding to take the plunge. It really is a honest assesment and a true picture of what lies ahead.

In fairness, I think the man is a liberal. I mean, how many Muslims can get married to Catholics and still allow their wives actively practice her religion hindrance free? How many? huh
That is the word i expected people to use in commending him not thinking or insinuating that because he attended a christian conference,he will become a better leader. We should commend his religious tolerance and not start thinking that he will become a born again christian and then in turn become a better leader.'Born Again' christian does not translate to 'better leader'.Alot of recent examples readily come to mind.

i see no qwams with that. infact, it will do him alot of good. he wasnt the only one there,OGD was also seated by him. Even Tinubu was also a regular attendee of Holy Ghost congress/service. its a good omen!
How huhI think Raji Fashola is indeed one of the best Governors Lagos has ever had but i still do not see the corelationship between him attending the holy ghost conference and his governace. He probably was invited as a dignitary and since Lagos is multicultural and multi religious,it would do him good from the PR angle to attend.I am sure if the Bamgbose masquerade festival had such a large turnout and he was invited,he would also attend.Attending holy ghost conference is not a determinant of soul redemption or an indicator that he will become a born again christian.Puleeeeese,Nigerians and mass euphoria.

Christianity EtcRe: Should We Stop Giving Tithe? by damiso(f): 10:50am On Dec 23, 2008
I really am not going into the whole argument of whether to give tithe or not as my personal belief is that tithing, offering, alms and the rest are things that should be a personal relationship between you and your God as my belief is that everything a believer does should be tied to his personal relationship with his/her maker.i can decide to give even 15 or 20 percent of my income as the sprit leads but the main purpose of this giving either to the church or to the poor should be one done out of LOVE which is the greatest commandment of our lord Jesus, when you LOVE you give not to recieve but because you just LOVE.Giving should not be because you want recognition in church or becasue you want the whole world to see that you are giving or beacuse you want something from God.He know our heart's desires before we even say it.Giving should be an act of selflessness and sacrifice. This attitude is explicitly by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 6.

I have no problems with tithing as i have the belief that its a personal conviction,my only grouse is the manner in which the tithe is collected(this is something that goes in my church as well)What happened to the scripture that says that the left hand must not know what the right hand gives? So why do pastors now call people paying their tithe up to the front every sunday to pray a 'special prayer'.I personally do not go up to the front when i am paying,i just indicate on the envelope and stay on my seat as i feel that the prayer is not special as my God sees all hearts and is not being bought or cajoled to bless me because i paid tithe. Please, God is not the lottery.I have broached the topic with someone before and i know that it did not go down well but i still believe that all offerings should be made personal.Alot of people are giving because of all the wrong reasons as when all others are coming forward is done some people feel uncomfortable to be the only ones seating which in the turn means that the purpose for giving is flawed.Another thing i hate is when pastors start calling sacrificial offering and start with a figure ie 'For a mighty blessing this month i am calling a family that loves God to pledge starting from £500'.Pleeeease angry Why a price? That always rubs me the wrong way. What of people that cannot genuinely afford the extra?and the 419ner who made £100,000 illegally is able to give more than the £500?God looks at hearts not outward apperances.

I love God but i will be a christian by actions and attitudes and i refuse to coerced into giving when the motive for that giving is flawed.Thank God for the Bible,i have chosen to do according to the Word and even though i can be made out to be little bit non conformist in church,i have grown to know when a pastor is trying to play me(forgive my use of words).

Each time I read your posts, you remind me of the goat that ate bread near my house and there was no water for her to drink, and started runnin helter skelter with the bread hooked to her throat, and she is all over the place saying breaaad, breaaad, throooaat, hoookkeed.

Your analysis are so mind boggling, dik raising, and pu ssie wetting, to say the list.

So you are saying the Bible did or doesnt advocate service? So what does it mean to serve the Lord with all your might? might in the physical, what does might mean? praying? clapping? or what?, tell me o before i fok your wife.
I think your posts are very contradictory, rude and vulgar.
