I am pregnant with my first and i can say that i have just blanked my mind from thinking about labour (deal with it when i get there or should i say when am nearer the time).Enjoyed reading through most of the most experienced mothers posts, one question sha for those who have been there,I am terrifed of the way they have described the epidural procedure(needle and all, really hate needles and aint no super woman when it comes to pain),so as i have been able to gather from these posts, the size of the Epidural needle is worth not going through the pain?I am asking cos my midwife was asking me the other day about pain relief and tybe of birth bla bla, just told her i dont want to talk about it now. Let me just enjoy the scenes of my hubby mopping and cooking and leave the unpleasant thoughts till later. . |
doyin13:As sated in my post,i said PART of, not the whole problem,i drew this conclusion due to the way most of our politicians tend to crosscarpet to other parties as soon as what they want(which is often power at all costs) does not come their way or sometimes a disagreement with their political godfathers. This often shows that ideals and the ideals of the party actually mean nothing to them, anything goes as long as they become governor, senator etc.As someone said these parties are in existence but are not allowed to thrive,i voted the labour party(much to my parents' annoyance)in the 2003 polls as i agreed with what they actually stood for,i could see a mandate.Maybe the use of the word'ideology' was wrong to use in this context but what i am trying to pass across is most times,we do not know what principles parties we are voting stand for. Take this example, i voted AC in the 07 elections in lagos(i did not vote in the presidential elections and others cos i did know most of the candiates and i absolutely did not agree with principles of those i knew) not because of AC(i do not know what they stand for as well due to some certain elements among them like Tom Ikimi) but because i was impressed by Fashola's vision in the debates. The labour candidate(Femi Pedro) clearly did not stand for labour ideals and just contested on that platform cos he lost the primaries to Fashola. This is a clear example of what i am trying to pass across by saying they lack ideology,i probably should have used the word ideals or principles. |
I have always wondered if the recent crop of new age politicians have ideologies or even understand ideologies that their political parties represent or stand for with the way they are always decamping and recamping as soon as they are not nominated or should i use the word selected to run on the platforms of their respective parties. I remember in the last general elections how our so called politicians were just joining every and any party as long as they were the governorship, senatoria whatever candidate, some party seceteriats were set up in some of them's homes. In most developed democracies and even in our earlier political history, political parties had ideological viewpoints,we all know the world view of republicans and democrats in the United states,The labour and conservative parties in the united kingdom and even of the NPN and UPN in the 70's,even the SDP and NRC both had republican and democratic tendecies in 1993 pols.Members of these parties believe in certain principles and this makes up their party's mandate and manifesto. Right now most of our political parties have no ideologies, its anything or anyone goes.I believe the rate of decamping that went on in the last elections just goes on to show that they (the politicians and parties) have no idea of what they actually want out of serving the nation, all they want is to get into power and would use any means to get there. One would wonder why Hilary Clinton did not become a republican considering the long and hard presidential tussle between she and Obama, I am guessing this is because she believes in the Democratic ideology of peope welfare as opposed to the free market principles most republicans believe in.I do think out political parties need to go back to the drawing board. |
I am at that point now guess its the winter blues, just have my bath, moisturise and get my butt out of the house, its even on the train i remember to use lip balm on my lips.To think that when i was in Uni i used to spend like 20 mins on my make up everyday |
This one of the most refreshing posts i have read on this section. This postive thinking trend really has made alot of christains to be over ambtitious(being ambitious in itself is not bad thing),selfish, egoistical, needy, demanding, greedy, unnecessarily competitive i cannot even finish listing the attributes.I am in church sometimes and i know that my pastor is not speaking the word of God but his personal beliefs as he sometimes makes out anyone not succesful in financial terms an absolute failure,I feel success is not neccesarily measured by financial or material wealth,Mother Theresa was not rich but to me she is one of the greatest successes of our time. May the Good Lord grant us all wisdom. |
mrlizo:Won tu tide o.pls dont spam our thread all u this 'make $10,000 a day'people ![]() Hey guys, not been in here for a while cos meeeeeeeeeen its been a rollercoaster ride for me the last couple of weeks but as i always say the joy of the Lord is my strength. I have a new manager o,started this monday as my old manager has been seconded to oversee another project,Still observing the guy sha but e be like say position dey shack am small.Me i am used to working with little or no supervision as my old manager just let you be on your own and get on it with it,but this guy just dey monitor like class monitor,Its amusing sha though my other colleagues are getting irritated. .Let me sha give him benefit of the doubt for his 'new found' power to wear off. There is an internal vacancy for a senior financial crime consultant,i have applied but i am just scared that i might not get shortlisted because of my present state. Its a role that i feel i would be quite good at and will mean much more responsibiltyy but see how nature wants to cheat me .Well its all good sha,as they say there is no harm in trying.I will try and 'babe up' for the interview as that is something that i find hard doing every morning,in short coming in to work sef is a miracle.Today has been ok,not too busy so trying to prepare for my appraisal and 121 tomorrow.i don't think i have met all my targets this month but will sha try to 'gramartise ' my way this month, besides i have been off ill for quite some time so have some 'sort' of excuse.Well ma people nice to be able post here after some time see ya later. |
There was a really enlightening debate during the 2007 governorship elections in Lagos state organised by Channels television,it made us see those canditates who actually had a vision,i think those debates actually shaped how people voted in those elections.I remember i was really impressed by Babatunde Fashola and Jimi Agbaje. No matter how Baba Obj 'do or died' lagos everyone knew Lagos would never vote PDP. |
SHENANIGAN:True, rarely used to do anything at home back in nigeria.Yeah we used to do housework when we were younger but my mom decided to get a househelp when we all started working and leaving home for Uni,if not housework would have killed her.I remeber thinking the day i joined my husband in the UK'Chei so there is no more Ellen to send around?' All my friends and i mean all that are married have househelps or one younger distant relation staying with them to help them with the'baby'and housework. My Husband's cousin's wife even has two maids and a cook and she has just two kids. Me i hate all this sufferhead life here jare,my hubby says am spoilt.I could not rememeber the last time i ironed clothes back home in naija and the washman just cost 5k a month. cant wait to move back home where i will get loads of help. |
Dont mind cleaning the house, have always been obsessed with keeping things clean and tidy.Me and my hubby always argue about the fact that i cant keep away from cleaning,if i spot dirt it must be removed.,even when i am dog tired. My worst chore is laundry, when i was still at home i used to pay for my clothes to be washed and ironed.Even in school,i was a regular patron of 'any work'.Nowsef that i dont need to physically wash as i just need to load the washing machine and take it out sef na wahala.Ironing i despise.Thank God Hubby has taken the cue to be the laundry man .I dont want to know how the clothes got clean, all i want is for it to appear in my wardrobe ready to wear. |
Thank you guys,i will endeavour to take it. easy.I wonder if any of the girls on here have gone through this phase,as would need tips on how to cope with work and the tiredness that accompanies it as you know where we come from still have to keep a secret from all my older friends and family till much later.Only my mom, hubby and boss know for now amd my mom is superwoman so talking to her makes me feel lazy, heard stories that she drove herself to the hospital the day she had me.She is of the opinon that we children of nowadays are lazy. Today seems to be kinda quiet so il just use the opportunity to work on January audit reports that have been lying on my desk for the past two weeks, before you know february will end and it will just start piling up. Wonder what to get my husband for valentine's day, guys pls any ideas?Cant seem to think of anything to get him as all ideas went with christmas and besides this time its a tighter budget.I sha hope he does not get me chocolates ,the sight of them really makes want to puke. Our wedding anniversary is this month as well so il pity the poor guy and appreciate whatever he gets me as we are going away that weekend. I Know, I know women and our love for events abi? ![]() |
Thank you guys. funny how lil things like headaches could be signs of one kain big life changing development I am really struggling this morning ,my boss is all friendly and supportive but its more like my expectations for myself,i hate coming across as incompetent and i sha cant be telling all my clients 'story story'.I just dey misquote figures and it seems temporary amnesia will part of my own symptoms(havent seen that on most of the millions of websites i have been reading). You want to try the zillions of yellow stick it notes on my desk, i cannot enter gbese with internal audit. It is well. Have a meeting now with some people from a company that we just acquired on operations structure,i sha hope i dont doze off when all the figures and projections start flying cos thats all i want to do now .BRB. |
hey guys been so busy and tired that i have not had time to come in here to share work hassle. I have had to do some sort of meetings for some personal issues that might affect work so i have been in a whirlwind of meetings since last week with HR,my manager, occupational health etc.Add to this to my workload and men its been tiring. Its not easy being a working woman(though i would never trade it for the role of full time housewife).I am really struggling but it is all Good the Lord is my strength.Have to go now, have letters and emails to respond to. PS: this situation is not a life threatening one so my peeps do not worry about me.Its one of those things that are the joys of life. and explains why i have been feeling so under the weather for the past few weeks. |
I do agree that it is indeed rude to carry on a converstaion when a third person is there and speak in a diff language especially when both of you can speak a commonly understood language( which is often english) but i refuse to accept that yorubas are the worst culprits. I have worked in a company(supposedly proffesional enviroment) that was filled with Igbo people and believe me i felt more alienated than now when most of my colleagues are white.Gosh it was Igbo all the time.I will not want to mention names but this co is a telecoms firm based in iganmu lagos(some nlanders might know the co ).People used to ask me how i coped but i was just able to tolerate them.I also served in the north and not understanding hausa would make you feel incommunicado. French people also have the annoying habbit of talking to you in french even when they speak english. So people just tend to speak their native tongue more when around someone who can speak it too. I am not making excuses as i stated earlier it is rude and if the person you are dealing with is paranoid they migh think you are plotting against them so its better to speak in a language everyone understand. |
Really love this thread brought a sense of nostalagia. Cant believe that me and mum are now so close. ahhh how that woman could flog!I am the first born and daughter and because of that she was esp hard on me,i never could get away things that my younger ones could.I remeber when i came 28th out of 38th in Jss1,i never heard the last of this.If i put in the TV you will hear'People that come 28th dont watch TV',if i put in an opinion you would hear 'People that come 28th dont talk when others are talking'.Gosh was i so humiliated that the next term i came 10th and my grades improved all through secondary school to WAEC where i had 6 A's.My younger ones hated me for it sha cos all they heard was 'I will not pay for you to write WAEC twice,Ur sister passed at one sitting and she got 6 A's.' My mom was so strict on me that i had to ask my dad once if she was my real mother. But i guess she wanted me to be good role model for my younger ones. Now we are so close and we joke and tell her that 'momy u were really magaret thatcher when we were growing up' and she just starts laughing. The phrases i can remember are; 'You are enjoying,i used to open the shop and travel 2 hrs to get to School'(both of them which i find strange as i cant remember my paternal grandparents being traders) 'E wo eni ti a tori gbawe to je osan'meaning see who are fasting for that is eating in the afternoon. 'This is my House, wait till you get to your own house to start flouting Rules,my rules are law'. Calling my full name, when this happens i know i am DEAD. 'Does the person that came first have two heads?or are you not paying the same fees'. 'You will remember these words some day and pray for me'. 'Nobody will say i did not train you'. 'It is rude to talk at back at elders' 'So you are now deaf?you cant answer what i asked' The last two were a source of confusion,if u answer u are talking back,if u dont u are ignoring them. ![]() 'Thank God you too will become a mother someday, then you will understand what i am saying' 'God knows how your husband's house will look' I could go on and on.My Mother! |
Hey Guys, was snowed in yesterday so got a compulsory snow holiday ;Das the trains were messed up and there was no way i was going to come in and get stranded.Sha braved it to get in today and am i glad i did.Kinda hectic but at least its better than letting all the work pile up and then coming in tomorow to backlog.Only 2 of us are in out of a team of 6. Been Kinda busy sha as faxes and emails have been flying in right left and centre and brokers, police and MIB do not understand that we are just 2 doing the work of 6 people. Was kinda getting stressed earlier but i have just taken a deep breath and have decided to do what i can do.My manager has also seen that the workload is much and has advised for me do what i can do as she does not want me falling ill again. Nice of them sha, they got us lunch for braving the odds to come in and na real odds.I amost fell down twice on my walk to and from the train station. The roads are so slippery i am even scared to think of my journey home as i am looking out the window and the ice does not seem to be melting.Thank God for wellie boots . I fashi chic this morn and wore ugly green wellie boots and put my heels in my bag.I just found it in one cupboard(guess it belongs to my sis in law) and it was in my size.I was fronting before when my hubby suggested that i wear them but bless him for the suggestion,it helped me gan.Gotta go now. |
Tgirl4real:Yeah you can say that again.Just that the weekend just always seems to fly. |
@ debo and tkb thank u guys am much better now thanks to nurofen extra(i hope am not going down the substance abuse lane, had about 8 capsules yest, still on two today and hopefully will need no more). As per work,as it's the end of week and month have a load of reports to do and am cracking on it just keep getting interrupted on the phone by one stupid aridin broker who cant read (sorry for the rant ).I have spoken to her like three times already and she still calls back for something that is obviously her fault.Let me give you the low down of her palava, she sells a policy to a client based on the fact that the client will pay £300 on event of a claim as this is BOLDLY written on the schedule and premium breakdown as £150 compulsory excess and £150 vehicle excess beause it is a Mercedes Benz Clk.Even my niece will know that 150+150=300. She obviously misinformed her client and now that, the client is tearing on top paying unforeseen £150,she is directing her pressure to me. See me see wahala.I have told her to fax over all the details TWICE and i have pointed out to her where the other £150 came from and she still wants me to waive it.See me trouble o fe koba mi pelu internal audit.Besides claims is already involved so its not my problem anymore.abi wetin concern underwriting with claims?Sometimes these oyinbo people can so dumb. Anyway felt good to vent my anger cos my manger don dey see say my patience is getting tried(why i hate open plan office). Now that i have typed it out my headache has reduced. I want to get a drink from the vending machine just realised i have not eaten today, guess an early lunch should help.I really should get paid bumper bonus in march o.I need a holiday cos i worked all through xmas and it was so busy with renewals and all. I think i should start hinting to my hubby that is what i want for vals.an exotic holiday to barbados .That should help me destress. |
Hi Guys, My absence is due to the fact that i have been ill so today is actually my first day back at work since fri morn and i think i feel the headache gathering momentum. I had 108 emails .and there is so much to be replied and also follow up on.The work just dey pile up.I wish i had stayed home till mon and my hubby warned me.The bad thing is if i go home now it would be two sickies instead of one(wonder what type of stupid rule that is). They prefer for you to take 10 days off at a strectch than take one day come back and take another day.I was just feeling so bored at home, now i regret it.The good thing sha is that some of my colleagues have volunteered with helping me with some things and they wan kill me with 'u alright' and tea.Guess i have to endure till 5 abi what to do.Wel go to now have some letters t draft to some brokers concerning the documentations of some of their clients.Thank God it is the same content na to just dey copy and paste after the intial draft .after that i think il take my break my head is feeling like a round between mike tyson and mohammed ali. |
Unc Siena we need you on the travel section.this spammers are getting out of hand and the moderator is no where to be found. |
Yipee i am on training for a new software for the rest of the day from 12.00,free lunch and all the works. ![]() But this morning still have to make calls to some brokers regarding some discrepancies in their accts and trust them they are so dodgy and are always trying to wangle out of admin charges(as if they waive them for their clients ).Also have to call the DVLA and MIB regarding some reg nos that are coming up as incorrect or invalid on the sys and have indeed been confirmed as correct by the owners of the vehicle(am sure you must have guessed a this point that i work in underwriting in an insurance company;one of the most boring jobs in the world;the only high point is when you get a tingle by detecting potential frauds). I am already tired, i always feel burnt out by thursday and happy again on friday cos the next day is Saturday(i can wake up at 10 ).Thank God i am have a bit of break from work later at least na trainer go dey work and na just for me to be attentive(come to think that itself na work cos na mental exercise). Its all good at least il be away from my phone and computer. To add to the female boss issue,my boss is female she is ok and all and seems genuinely interested in my career growth and progression but the thing is i just have some apprehensions about her.She just comes across as two-faced(u know the kind of feeling that comes across when you are dealing with english people).I am not saying that all english people are two faced but she is all nice and appreciative of my work,so why give me a C when i know i do more work than Lee(who is white english by the way) and give him a B.So you know what i mean.Like she goes out of her way to be nice and supportive in front of everyone so as not to seem R**ct and then something else where she can use proffesional jargon to back up,she marks me down. The good thing about my company is they really care about their staff and i have a right to go to my head of Unit if this continues in my next appraisal.Let me just give her the benefit of doubt that i am relatively new compared to the others on the team /My boss at my last job in Nigeria was also female and she was the BOMB.She could be annoying atimes because she was such a workaholic and perfectionist and expected the same from you but i am happy that i worked with her.It has really helped in my new role. She really brought out the best in me and made me almost a perfectionist like her. Before that, i worked under a man and he was HORRIBLE.always pickin on me and all (though some of my colleagues said he fancied me and was just picking on me because of that). So i think its not a gender thing, some people are just BOSSES and not mangers of people. |
earTHMama:yeah through 3rd Term agenda that thank God and AIT did not work.So since he could not stay on he had to appoint someone in his place. i am guessing this prompted the 'do or die' statement. |
Hello, Just a quick one for those versed in the way the ECO's at eleke crescent sometimes come up with decisions. My mom has been a regular traveller and has been getting Uk visas since 1980.Her last visa expired last year and she has applied to have it renewed. Before now, she was always applying as a general vistor(my former visit visas were issued on the basis of she and my dad being my sponsors) but this time she was told that she had to fill in the family vistor form as she is coming to vist me and my hubby(my hubby is a british national and i am on a spouse settlement visa valid for two years). We scanned an invitation letter, payslips, bank statemenst and all the usual stuff needed to show that we could support her while on her vist to the UK.She also submitted her bank statements and evidence that she has a steady means of income in nigeria(my mom is a businesswoman, she deals in accessories and has shops in balogun market in lagos island. She also travels to thailand, america and dubai in the course of her business) My issue now is that she was told it would take 5 working days as she was not a fresh applicant, but its now about 15 days and her visa i stil not ready. She plans to connect to dubai from london and has already made appointments there with her trading partners as well paying deposits for her ticket with emirates and she is getting worried. When she calls they say they are waiting for response from abroad and no one has contacted either me or my hubby. She is now wishing that she applied as a general visitor as she has a strict schedule coupled with the fluctuating dollar prices(she bought some for 168 naira and is already running at a loss due to the fall in price). My question is what might be the cause of delay?i am baffled myself, i have asked my sis in law who works at the foreign office and all they say they are looking into the application. |
To further buttress this point i would want some christians who belong to denomination that believe in this to let us know how the below prayerpoints are Christlike? 1.All my enemies must fall down and DIE. 2.Lord,disable all those seeking for mt downfall and allow them not to reap the fruits of their labour. these are the two i can rememeber for now but i become a liitle disillusioned and confused when these sort of prayerpoints become the norm in church(and it is becoming a norm in my church and i am talking about at almost all services )Sometimes our greatest Enemies are indeed ourselves. |
Nice Thread, really nice to read what other people go through at work Just finished my 121/PRP walk thru and my manger was talking o*ks as usual with same lingo for the past 5 months'i think you are settling very well into your role and i think you are doing quite well bla bla' at the end of the day she still gives me a C.after taking on extra work load and working like a jackal to get an A or even B to get better bonus in march, i am so mad The woman just dey hail so me i would do more work not know ing that me na the performance based bonus for march i dey chase ![]() Thank God for nairaland to unwind Before that was chasing an accounts query for one really annoying broker who kept on saying 'sorry could you repeat that' on the phone, was really tempted to tell him to shove it but you know proffessional courtesy and all.The ironic thing is that me sef i was struggling to understand him as he was scottish and the way they twist their words na die. Nairaland really is a place for me to escape to when am less busy cos most of my colleagues their gist bore me so when i am on my computer like that they think i am doing a report or somethingbut i am happily posting or reading through threads ![]() will be back, have a meeting now. |
iice:Right about that, there is one oyinbo gal in my office(i cannot begin to describe ) the gal stinks the whole place out, i am sure she just gets up from the bed and comes to work, uggh the smell is so nauseating Back to the topic,i use mitchum gel for men and if i can't get it would be dove deodorant spray. Before this i wash very very well as i hate body odours so cany take any chances. After anti -perspirant,i use victoria secrets vanilla body mist(smells heavenly if may so myself) and then i decide on what perfume to use dependent on my mood. |
lucabrasi: |
@lucabrasi what thread in the culture section? about the weather goooooosh its freezing.like say we dey antartica.i need me sum sun jare. ![]() @ topic,I do not hate Nigeria infact love it.what should be hated is the NIGERIAN attitude to ,governance, lawmaking, ethnicity in short to almost everything. We do need a change of attitude.and truthfully its not just nigerians in nigeria that have it,its all of us that have had that trait imbibed one way or the other. We always believe there is always a shortcut to everything. |
lucabrasi:please call me when you start this campaign and i promise i will join you. Serious, guide's honour. |
JJYOU:I will tell him and amen. ![]() My mum wanted to pull that stunt once at heathrow ,after she had bought like 5 shops and she had already paid for two excess luggage( prior to this we had already done door to door cargo of about 5 boxes) she still had one full box of her clothes. She now started begging me to ask one guy that jejely had one small trolley bag to help check in the bag with his stuff. Then i was not married and the guy was one fine clean looking bobo(the woman wan spoil my fine gal).I flatly refused and told her to ask him herself. She then resorted to that parental blackmail that mothers are best at,'why are you children of today so selfish?'. I just ignored her and told her that i would help her cargo the bag later. She was so MAD and she did not talk to me till she went to board. So she now knows that i will not be blackmailed into carrying excess luggage. Its not worth the hassle, besides door to door cargo is just £3/kilo. |
