NoFucksToGive:I am from Edo State too and I would that you recall that Obaseki's margin of victory was very narrow hence can't really be generalized to mean a rejection of Tinubu. Your accusation that Tinubu is not a bridge builder is blatantly oblivious of Tinubu's ditching of Ribadu his own party's candidate to support Jonathan in 2011. Tinubu's present concentration on the North is a realistic priority as it is known that voter turnout in the North always dwarfs that of the South even though the South might have more registered voters. Moreover, you don't expect him to concentrate more on the SS and SE which have been spewing bitterness against him since 2015 and abandon the North which has been more accommodating to his ambition. Edo State people's choice was more about falling for a very cheap lie as the same events are currently repeating themselves in PDP with a greater intensity. I hope you have watched the recent video in which Obaseki said that the Edo PDP belonged to him and whoever is dissatisfied about that can leave the party plus the one in which Philip Shuaibu lamented about not being treated well in PDP despite him and his boss amassing all appointments to only those who came with them from APC. What of the Esan Agenda now in voicemail amidst the threat of dismemberment of AAU which is the only economic sustenance of Esans? What of Obaseki's present scheming to displace Wike as Atiku's likely running mate should the PDP ticket finally go North despite Wike was most instrumental to his securing refuge in PDP when he was out in the cold? With all these now playing out, people in Edo State now have the scales off their eyes as everyone has realized that Obaseki was actually the problem in APC and nether Tinubu nor Oshiomhole was. Then most importantly, the overwhelming victory of APC in last Bayelsa guber election and the recent one in Cross River North waters down your theory that APC is rejected in the SS because of Tinubu. 1 Like |

AmadinFestus:Though I am no fan of Obaseki, it was clear in those circumstances that Obaseki needed PDP more than PDP needed him. It was even a trite feeling all over Edo State that given Obaseki's lackluster first term performance, he was likely to lose to PDP if APC had fielded him for second term. It was his anti-godfatherism campaign through which he spoke to the emotions of the simple minded ones among the voters that the PDP mistakenly fell for in error. In addition, even if the PDP had not milked him of N35bn (which you wrongly put at a paltry 8bn), that wouldn't have stopped Obaseki from doing to PDP what he is currently doing to them. Afterall he did it to the APC which didn't collect a dime from him as a condition for giving him ticket and support in 2016. The Esans (Edo Central) who gave him the highest percentage support from any senatorial zone as regards his reelection are so far worst hit now in his second term and are most critical of him now owing to his decision to decentralize the only higher institution in their domain and their only economic sustenance. An ingrate doesn't necessarily need any reason to be ungrateful to his benefactors. It is a hereditary trait in the Obaseki family. 1 Like |

It is indeed shameful that Edo State people fell for this Edo-No-Be-Lagos scam campaign gimmick which was only a cover up for a huge first term failure but has today brought them to ridicule as Obaseki is now showing them his true colours which though were always visible from his first term, just that they deliberately closed their eyes to it. 1 Like |

I have been asking what fairness is inherent in expecting the ticket of a party they wish had never existed in the first instance, a party they termed a demonic party, a party on which they have blamed everything wrong with Nigeria on including things that happened before independence when those who formed the party had not even been born, a party they deliberately vote against in their region consistently even if it has the best candidate among the contestants, a party they so much hate for defeating, in a free and fair election, a man who isn't of their own region or ethnicity, a party they vowed never to have anything to do with, etc. Like someone already said, it is like hating a girl with passion but yet wanting to sleep with her. gift2xl:The extent to which the SE people hate APC but dearly love PDP is such that even if APC fields a SE person and PDP fields a Northerner, PDP will crush APC in the SE. Please recall that in all presidential elections since 2003 when APGA came into existence, PDP always crushed APGA in the SE despite APGA was founded by the SE's most loved personality who was the party's candidate on those occasions the party lost terribly in the SE to Obasanjo a Yoruba man and Yaradua a Fulani man. So talkless of APC which the SE perceives as founded by her arch enemy region. What of independence period when those who were reluctant about fighting for independence ended up in power after Independence while those who actively sacrificed and fought for independence went into the opposition and later ended up in jail post-independence? But these folks tell lies which even a primary 2 pupil can easily burst on account of the logical incoherences that usually litter them. Else how can a supposedly educated person suggest implicitly that Awolowo was in the ruling coalition and at the same time was the opposition leader? I don't understand these people at all. |

COMPAQ:Where is the money being used to finance the jumbo allowances of federal lawmakers coming from? If Saraki had done his humanly possible best to let the social security bill become law, it would have forced the government to be more accountable in the way subsidy and other wasteful policies are being funded hence free up money for social security and more fundamentally impactful policies. Imagine a situation whereby we return fully to 70% resource control by the federating units as was being done in the first republic; with just 30% revenue at the center, after paying salaries of soldiers and federal police, there will be virtually nothing left for the FG to waste on, bogus legislature allowances, subsidies, amnesty to Boko Haram and militia groups in general, etc. hence the FG would be compelled to judiciously utilize funds at the center while the states would be compelled to partner together to build refineries to the disappearance of the need for subsidy. 1 Like |

I would advise that much as criticisms of the government is enlightening and educative especially in connection with investment on NSE, doing so from a partisan perspective is a temptation that should be avoided. Once otherwise educative criticisms get coloured with partisan slurs and jibes, they are bound to lose meaning and place question marks on the motive in a thread like this one thriving on partisan neutrality. 2 Likes |

He used all his powers as Senate president to oppose the executive not even for genuine public interest but for political ends. Imagine a bill as simple as devolution of powers to states failed under Saraki. Another bill on social security for the aged failed as Saraki himself argued that the Nigerian government doesn't yet have the resources to sustain such program. canalily:If a particular governor collects and embezzles VAT and the people of the state can't mount pressure on the state's House of assembly to impeach him and set him up for prosecution, then they alone in that state will suffer it and cry blood unlike this present situation whereby everyone in all the 36 states suffer the consequences of VAT embezzlement in Abuja. With this, no one will blame the FG again. People will now leave the FG alone and hold their governors responsible. It will eradicate voting on sentiments during state guber elections as everyone will now understand that there is a bitter impending consequence for voting the wrong and questionable character into office just because he is of their ethnicity. Then it will be more painful when they, amidst their suffering in their state, look across and see progress and infrastructural developments in a neighbouring state where VAT is being used judiciously by the governor elected there without any ethnic or religious sentiments. avalon7:This whole thing started in 1999 with Obasanjo being the worst on account of his mockery of the struggle for the end of military rule, having a record of his military rule seeing the Dollar appreciate against the Naira by a whooping 450%, being the candidate of the militaristic Northern Oligarchy which had run the country aground for decades, being guilty of further entrenchment of the unitary system which has made Nigeria a joke before the rest of the world, etc, but ironically ended up being victorious with a landslide in the election and again in 2003 after his records of massacres of thousands of innocent civilians in Odi and Zakibiam. Even Odi and Zakibiam people voted massively for him just four years after those massacres. On account of all these, it is the people I blame and not the politicians who are rather just a reflection of whom we are as a people. So I see Tinubu's ambition as a thing we asked for many years ago by our past choices hence I see him winning in 2023 as long as a crooked and expired Obasanjo with no manifesto at all could defeat a clean, unblemished, dynamic and forward looking Olu Falae who was armed with a workable manifesto. We reduced ourselves to this sorry state by allowing Obasanjo to pioneer this democracy despite being an integral part of our problems. 2 Likes |

avalon7:If you think Nigerians genuinely care about age or health status of candidates, then you obviously never followed the issues that surrounded the candidacy of Yaradua who, despite having been confined to obscurity by terminal ill-health for eight years even as a state governor and in addition even collapsed during a campaign after Obasanjo imposed him on PDP despite the availability of far better, clean, dynamic, current and more forward looking aspirants for the PDP ticket; Nigerians justified Obasanjo's choice of him and went ahead to give him bloc votes and till today still regret that death didn't allow him to continue ruling the country in that seriously I'll state of his and his directionless government. As an expert in public psychology, I can bet it that those raising dust against Tinubu's candidacy on health and age grounds are only using it as a more presentable subterfuge in asking for their pound of flesh for exercising his freedom of association in 2015 against Jonathan their beloved choice. Let PDP give her ticket to Atiku and watch all this talk of age and corruption fizzle out with the speed of light.
