Kobojunkie: Not to jump in the middle of your squabble with whomever it is you are throwing this out to but technically, there is still no proof that removing subsidy would have reduced level of corruption. On paper, that argument would make sense but reality is, even though the nation spent about a month this year(2012) paying full price at the pumps, and about the last 6 months paying(we are still in July here) the new Naira 97 price, according to Iweala, the fact is the Nation has racked up a bill even greater than it did before the removal.

So, yeah, no evidence that subsidy removal would have been the cure all that we were told it would be,yet and no assurances that an increase will be to the benefit of Nigerians still. For instance Nigerians were promised that the PALLIATIVE MEASURES would be of great benefit to them. So far, all we do is read stories of SURE-P helping what could amount to FANTHOMS since we don't seem to know where these beneficiaries of SURE-P live, who they are and how they benefited from it.

Always shamelessly trying to confuse issues. What is the relationship between the above ranting with the topic at hand. If you want us to discuss subsidy removal and your foolish opposition to it, please go and open another thread for it. I will kindly oblige you with my response. But for now, let's stick with the topic.

It was in this forum that these shameless people said all sorts of rubbish about Jonathan's resolve to fight corruption.
When he sought to close the window of corruption by removing subsidy. They cried foul and said that he lacked the balls to confront the cabal.
When he set up a panel to investigate the oil cabal. They said it was bound to fail as GEJ never meant to see anything work.
When AIG submitted his report, they came up with all manner of propaganda against Jonathan that he wanted to compromise the probe. They went the extra mile to label AIG a member of the cabal.
When Jonathan set up a review committee to look into the report, they said it was another plot to delay justice and shield the cabal from prosecution. Some alleged that It was part of a plan to water down the report.
When the report finally came out indicting more 45 names than FACROOK, they said there was nothing to celebrate until one person indicted is prosecuted.
Now that the prosecution has started, the story has changed.
Shamefully, they have gone to Sahara SHOPRITE of lies to concrort another defence for the accused person.
My question to kobojunkie and others, who are now lawyers to the arraigned cabal is, What has GEJ's election got to do with criminal charges in court?
How does the issue of sponsorship relate with the plea of guilty or not guilty to the age long looting of our oil in the guise of subsidy?

NLC will focus on the welfare of its workers. PPPRA/ customs/NNPC will have nothing to embezzle. Govt will not scare us with price fixing. Real investors in refineries wil come in to build refineries because of the deregulated regime. Employment will be generated in millions. Importation will end. Prices will be high initially but competition will push it down to N45.00 which is the estimated cost of production/local transport of a liter. There will be product availability and we will all be happy.

When Jonathan said he was committed to probing the oil sector, many people doubted and insisted he is not serious.
The president came on media chat and told us clearly that even before the House probe, he had commenced investigation of the oil sector by asking Aganga to invite KPMG to audit NNPC.
The KPMG report revealed massive fraud in the oil sector prompting the president to Sack the PPRA boss and moved to withdraw subsidy so as to close the corruption window.But the cabal fought back thru labour and re opened the subsidy window of corruption.
While FACROOK was busy trying to make a carricuture of the entire probe, the president initiated steps to invite an independent accomplished technocrat to investigate the subsidy regime.
The opposition still kept saying nothing will come out. They even went the extra mile to heap allegations of compromise on the AIG committee.
When the committee submitted it's report and the president directed for a review upon protests by those who felt they were not given a fair hearing, the critics besieged this forum to deride the president for forming committee upon committee. they alleged it was a delay tactics by the president to shield the cabal.
Penultimate week, the review comittee submitted its final report indicting additional 45 names that FACROOK excluded. The critics were not done. they still came with their prophesies of doom saying that the report will end there. That nothing will be heard about the report again.
Yesterday, EFCC came out with a list of names for prosecution. The critics are at it again. Spawning all kinds of things to discredit the move,
Even when these people are finally arraigned. They will still not believe that something is happening. Perhaps all they want is for the president to come out with an AK47 to shoot all those indicted by the report before they will know that something is happening. f.ools!

First, your post was riddled with grammatical errors so I had challenges trying to understand you. Next time don't put me thru this stress.

Your grouse is that EFCC did not charge all those indicted by AIG IMOUKHEDE in one fell swoop.
I will not begrudge you for this reason because you may not know the rigors involved in prosecution and the fate suffered by many cases that were hurried to court.
The fact of indictment raises only a prima facie for trial. It is not enough to secure conviction of the accused person. The prosecution has an onerous responsibility to gather much evidence and witnesses for proper trial in court. Giving the technicality of oil transactions, you will agree with me that it's indeed a challenge.
For diligent prosecution, it's also not advisable to lump all the cases together. There are over 150 persons involved. Imagine how EFCC will be able to arraign all in one day in different courts and different jurisdictions. Even if they engage private prosecutors, co ordination will be a key issue.
Except the essence of your own anti graft war is just mere prosecution without conviction, I don't see any reason why you should be splitting your head over this

What problem do these low minds have with this application in court? What is difficult to understand in this case? A person cannot be ELECTED into the office of president for more than two terms. The question then is, has Jonathan been elected to the office of President twice? The answer is obviously no.
So why the hair splitting over an obvious statement of fact that he would exceed 8 years in office? For clarity, Jonathan will stay 10 years in office. 2 years as acting President and 8 years as ELECTED president which the constitution permits.

Increasingly, this govt keeps defying all evil predictions about its resolve to transform Nigeria.
This is the first administration that is taking serious steps to open up the Petroluem sector to public scrutiny. All these inquiries were unheard of previously.
The first major indication to their zero tolerance disposition to corruption was the bold step to remove subsidy in January though this was misconstrued by labour. I have always argued that it takes a govt who doesn't benefit from subsidy regime to remove subsidy.
Secondly, the govt invited Ribadu, who was a major opponent to the president in the last general elections, to probe into oil revenue. Any Petroluem minister who has skeleton in his or her wardrobe will not take such risk to appoint Ribadu to handle such a sensitive assingment.
Thirdly, they set up a committee and drafted a technocrat in the person of AIG Imoukhede to probe into the subsidy regime. So many detractors came up with so many allegations aimed at creating a bad impression of the committee. At last, they submitted a report that indicted more people than FACROOK.
The detractors resorted to prophesying doom about the report.They said it will never see the light of the day but with the fresh revelations from EFCC, we are about to witness landmark prosecution of the cabal that has held Nigeria's oil industry prostrate.

Penultimate week, the Fg forwarded a new PIB to National Assembly. The bill is regarded as a revolutionary piece of legislation intended to open up the Petroluem sector.
The transformation agenda is on course.

In agriculture, for the first time in our history, we have a clearly defined agricultural policy which is targeted towards maximum utilisation of cassava for growth thru the launch of the cassava bread campaign. The policy is intended to reduce our reliance on imported wheat so as to encourage local production of cassava and it's conversion to flour for bakery. The FG has in less than one year eliminated the middlemen cartel that fed fat on fertiliser distribution at the expense of local farmers. Now through deregulation reforms, fertiliser is now accessible in the open market. he has also embarked on massive construction of silos and has increased import duties on the importation of rice in order to encourage local farmers. The efforts of the minister has been so appreciable that the world bank assisted with over 50 billion Naira for fertiliser redistribution scheme/ silos. The CBN has also set up a 500 billion loan scheme which is to assist farmers. Farmers database is being compiled nationwide and improved seedlings are being distributed to them.

The power roadmap is on as you know and PHCN has been unbundled. The PIB has been sent to the NASS and is expected to be passed into law as soon as it scales the NASS.

Like I said, we hope he succeeds for the benefit of Nigeria but I will prefer to start accessing him at least, after 2 to 3 years.

There is no where in the world where the staff of a govt agency will decide who leads them . It's not done. It's akin to NNPC staff protesting the recent shakeups and replacement of DG. I dont want any government to be paying for my gasoline useage but the problem i have is the sincerity of this criminals we called government towards this policy. The subsidy was partially removed, 141- 97=#34*37million daily consumption, what has happened to that savings since january? The capital expenditure could hardly get to 15% implementation. Is this the same folks will entrust full removal of subsidy upon? This people are not ready to do anything, the price of diesel have never go down since it was deregulated those it mean that the price did not at a time drop at the international market. I agree with you to the extent that the govt, inclusive of our public service structure, cannot maximally re invest the proceeds of subsidy removal. The last time I checked, the SURE programme was only linked to the new funding of the stalled ABUJA- Lokoja road. There are challenges. The corruption in the subsidy regime has not allowed for a proper evaluation of the real proceeds acccruable to SURE.
Take for instance, it is claimed that as at June, only about 340 billion was left out of the 888 billion earmarked for subsidy this 2012. In other words, more funds will be needed to to pay subsidy claims. If this is the case, then the SURE projects will be threatened.

However, I must continue to say that the real benefits of subsidy removal does not lie in the re investment argument. It has to do more with the long term overriding benefits of creating the enabling environment for private sector investments in refineries.

Without subsidy removal, no licensed refinery owner will install a pin on site. It's risky. Unprofitable and costly to do so.

I cannot go to site to invest billions of dollars, settle host communities, lay infrastructure, contend with my local power generation, recruit workers and engage labour while my rivals just sit in the confines of their cosy offices to place orders for PMS and collect inflated subsidy claims after delivery.

I cannot also go the whole hog to set up refinery in 2 years and wait for govt to tell me the price I should sell it. No market functions that way. Prices are cost reflective and fluctuates according to the market forces of demand and supply.

You re the one who lacks common sense. Fuel subsidy regime is a bane to our development.
First, the idea of using almost one quarter of your national budget to subsidize one single commodity is fundamentally faulty. No economy thrives under that kind of arrangement.

Secondly, it is difficult, given our bad public sector attitude, to use NNPC to build and manage more refineries. We have tried it severally in the past and it ain't working. Successive govts in Nigeria have wasted trillions of Naira in turn around maintenance. It's more lucrative for a govt that wants to corruptly enrich itself to award more contracts fr such turn around maintenance and benefit massively from it. But who manages the refineries afterwards? NNPC?

Thirdly, we need private sector investments in refineries. And for you to achieve this, you need to discourage importation. And for you to discourage importation, you have to remove subsidy so that importation will be less attractive.
No private sector investor will be willing to invest in a sector where prices are fixed by govt.
No private sector investor will take the pains to undertake the long term projects of constructing refineries where his competitors are making quick money from importing PMS and collecting subsidy claims.
So we find ourselves in a fix. No progress. No movement.

The end is yet in sight over this subsidy wahala. I have always maintained that the NLC misled us in January over that subsidy issue. Now we are in a motion without movement. Still struggling to probe and pay subsidy too. The more we set up probes to cure the corruption, the more we end up perpetrating corruption. I subscribe to the preventive measure of withdrawing subsidy so that these cabal, probe panels, PPPRA, NNPC, customs will have nothing to feast on.

I don't even trust that report for anything. That Farouk report may be thrown into the Chilean mines for all I care.

This govt has blazed the trail in accountability in governance. They have a knack for every process that will entrench transperancy in the public service. The present delay at budget implementation is due to this solemn resolve. The govt wants a break from our culture of reckless spending.
If you understand how the system works, you would understand that year in year out senior civi servants in connivance with some politicians pad up our national budget with useless budgetary overheads. The present minister is initiating a system for proper verification of funds released by govt. she is shocked over how a group of civil servants saddled with the task of paying police pensions overreached themselves to the tune of over 120 billion. She has introduced a national integrated online payment system that guarantees the ministry access to information about transfers from CBN to all MDA's.
Like all pioneer projects, the system is coming with a lot of difficulties and challenges but they re gradually overcoming them. The present delays, though regrettable, must be excused on the ground of these reforms.

APGA is also regional, they clearly call themselves Igbo party, an attempt by a Northerner to convene a meeting of trustees met a parallel meeting in Ojukwu's compound with Gov Obi and Ojukwu's wife running things. What party again oh....hen en...ANPP, this was a major opposition in the early days of democracy, it was sort of national until greed tear them apart seeing most of the members swimming into PDP and some in limbo. So, PDP remains the only national democratic party with nominations openly done at Eagles Square. PDP leads, others follow. If PDP fails, Nigeria will actually shake. I cant trust Nigeria in the hands of Tinubu's regional party or Buhari's regional Party. They both are entrenched in regional jingoism.

This ranks as the most foolish topic I have ever come across in all my 5 years in Nairaland. I know there's a smear campaign ongoing to deprive the Ngwa people of their right to produce the next governor of the state, but I am shocked it could ever degenerate to this shameful depths.

The author of this piece ought to be arraigned in the world criminal court at Hague for attempted genocide. Nothing could be more hateful.

This hate speech marks a desperate, but failed, attempt to demonise the Ngwa man and clad him in the unfitting robes of a people undeserving of governing Abia state come 2015.

Those who are not conversant with the history and politics of Abia state may fall for this blackmail, but those of us who are students of Abia state politics and marginalization know the truth and owe this forum a duty to say it with all decency, civility and proof.

First, the author unintelligenty sought to strip the NGWA MAN of his hospitality and hardwork by giving a distorted history of land acquisition in Aba. What the hireling failed to tell this honorable forum is that NGWA PEOPLE own Aba and all the most developed areas of Abia state. The Ngwa land presently refers to the areas adorning the ENUGU-PORTHARCOURT Highway. Starting immediately after the state capital, Umuahia down to Port harcourt Rivers state. The Ngwa land consist of ABA, which is the industrial and commercial nerve centre of Abia state and South East in general. The Ngwa land consist of Osisioma which harbours the NNPC DEPOT, GUINNESS PLC, NIGERIAN BREWERIES etc. The Ngwa land consist of all the oil bearing communities in Abia state. It is to their credit that Abia state is adjudged as an NNDC state.

Secondly, it is a millennial lie that the Ngwa man is not enterprising. The Ngwa man is very enterprising and hardworking. Blessed with a vast table and arable Land mass, Ngwa land remains the food basket of the state. The rural dwellers are not beggars, as the author mischievously set out to portray. They are farmers who are reputed to produce the best crops ever. Their garri is always the highest in demand and people come from far and wide in search of it.

I understood the authors confusion in the the 3 rd paragraph. He was labouring under the mistaken belief that commerce and petty trading is a measure of hardwork and enterprise. This Informed his pedestrian comparisons and one man census of "SHOPS" in ABA. So laughable. I must concede that NGWAPEOPLE are not given to petty trading and commerce just like the authors kinsmen from the relatively obscured Northern hinterland of Abia state.

The Ngwa people love education and investments into the real sector of the economy. It is the love for Education that has launched their sons into National limelight more than any other part of Abia state. It is this love for Education that made them produce the First ever Minister of Aviation in Nigeria, JAJA NNANNA WACHUKU. Please google it. It is this love for Education that made them produce the First CBN Governor from the south East, PAUL OGWUMA, it is this same love for Education that gave them the Senate president, Adolphus Wabara. It is this same Education, that has given them the present Minister of Labour, EMEKA WOGU.

Nigerian History is replete with the exploits, hardwork and enterprise of the NGWA WOMAN. Have you heard about the ABA WOMEN RIOTS of 1929? I know that you may not be conversant with this history especially when you have a phobia for Education and preference for trade. But I will oblige you with a brief summary.

The Ngwa women were so hardworking and industrious to the extent that the colonial masters became afraid and sought to generate more revenue for Nigeria thru imposition of heavy taxation on their income. In other words, the Ngwa woman's income was the old version of oil revenue upon which the nation depended. THE FACTS SPEAK FOR ITSELF.
It is not therefore surprising that years after, an Ngwa woman, SENATOR NKECHI NWAOGU, became the first female senator from Abia state. She headed the senate committe on Banking and superintended over the revolution in the Banking sector. On her return for the second term, she is the Chairman Senate committee on Gas till date. Give me a better exploit from any woman from your bush village and I will keep quiet.

FInally, you betrayed your real motive in the last paragraph by your unwarranted attacks against SENATOR ENYINNAYA ABARIBE, Former Deputy Governor of Abia State and currently CHAIRMAN SENATE COMMITTEE ON INFORMATION. Your fear for ENYI was poorly veiled and it's understandable. Having survived several impeachment processes as Deputy Governor and scaled thru the hurdles of your paymasters to return to the SENATE for the second time, ENYI IS SURELY THE MAN TO TAKE OVER THE STATE IN 2015 and redeem the lost glory of ABA and NGWALAND IN GENERAL.
