Politics › Re: Killings In Northern Nigeria Have Nothing To Do With Religion – ACF by Deepthoughts: 10:58am On Jun 05, 2019 |
owisdom58: The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has said the continuous killing of innocent persons by insurgents, armed bandits and militia groups in the North and Nigeria at large has nothing to do with tenets of religion.
ACF spokesman, Muhammad Ibrahim Biu, in a Sallah message on behalf of the forum, called on all elected public officers in executive and legislative positions to hit the ground running by delivering on their campaign promises.
Biu, who lamented that security situation in the country has become more worrisome, said: “ACF wishes to observe that the killings of innocent souls by insurgents, armed bandits, by clashes between herdsmen and farmers as well as cult and militia groups and kidnapping in parts of the North and Nigeria are inconsistent with the tenets of all religions.
“While commending the efforts of the security agencies, we urge them to redouble their efforts in combating the crimes which have continued to be worrisome to Nigerians.
“In the spirit of the seasons, ACF calls on Nigerians to embrace peaceful dialogue and forgiveness as the most religious and civilized means of addressing grievances rather than engage in hate speeches, threats and intimidation which are capable of degenerating into avoidable conflicts and conflagration that do no one or group any good.
“ACF wishes to appeal to those beating the drums of succession, separation and balkanisation of Nigeria along ethnic and religious lines to have a rethink, as we are all better in a united larger Nigeria than in small confederation of regions.”

bellachibaby: The governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi has accused herdsmen, especially those domicile at Afikpo North, Onicha and Izzi local government Areas of the state of assaulting and harassing women sexually.
Umahi made this known while addressing stakeholders of the state during a peace talk between herders and famers, at the Akanu-Ibiam International Conference Centre, Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State.
He lamented that the herders were defiling the land of Ebonyi by allegedly forcing the women into sex.
“There is a problem at Igboagu in Izzi LGA and Isu community in Onicha LGA. I want the chairman of the Miyeti Allah to know that we have a very strong traditional affinity to wives.
“Any Izzi woman, whether the man is from Izzi or outside Izzi and he have sex with the Izzi woman in this place, the land is desecrated and the woman as well is desecrated and cannot return to the husband’s house again and that is our culture.
“And the man that did it, is not allowed to stay in that land. It is the same thing in the entire Ebonyi state. So, where there is raping of women in their farms, is very dangerous.
“That land is cursed and cannot produce any crop again. And again, if that woman gives anything to the husband to eat, that man must die.
“I will like the chairman of the Miyeti Allah to help me to solve this problem of that Isu community where a woman was raped in her husband’s house. He must leave for the land to be cleansed. And the woman also must leave for the land to be cleansed.
“The land must be cleansed before both the herdsman and the woman be allowed to comeback to that place again. If both do not leave, people will start dying in their numbers.
“And of course, if the husband eats anything from the herder or the woman, the man will automatically die. That is the culture and the culture is something that is spiritual,” he stated.
https://thickmatch.com/herdsmen-raping-ebonyi-women-desecrating-land-gov-umahi/ Just imagine this, instead of the governor to clearly sound a strong warning to the herdsmen to desist from that practice or be sent packing he is begging them!,now fulanis are going to rape your women more it's a weapon of war,so if you like you can go on n keep begging don't man up. |

damiloladuke: Was Anthony Joshua loss to Andy Ruiz fixed? Well you are about to know that as a Nigerian man believes so in his own opinion.
The Facebook user identified as Seun Taddy Duro-Fadipe, while taking to the platform, wrote that there was no way the Mexican boxer could have defeated Anthony Joshua and the loss was all a script.
He wrote his opinion on his Facebook page where he mentioned that no one actually wanted to fight Anthony Joshua before Ruiz showed up in the scene
Well played AJ... Here is exactly why I think this match was fixed.
No one wanted to fight Joshua. Ruiz picked up this fight just 6 weeks ago. Properly scripted.
1. Pot for the rematch will be X10 what was generated today becos of hype
2. Joshua will beat Ruiz very very comfortably.
So, Was Anthony Joshua loss fixed?
Seun then further wrote that now that a rather unknown boxer has been crowned the World Heavyweight Champion, he believes that Wilder and Fury would want to come out to challenge Joshua.
3. Wilder and Fury will be scrambling for who should go at AJ first. Same people that were demanding a planet as a ruse not to fight Joshua.
Flooring Anthony Joshua is the classic boxing movie script. Tyson 90', Lennox Lewis 2001, beat the undefeated champion, get him more contenders who'd take a shot at his title therefore generating buzz and more pay for him.
Conspiracy of the smart!!
https://lailasnews.com/was-anthony-joshua-loss-fixed-nigerian-man-believes-it-was-scripted/ The more I watch the video clips of the fight the more I'm convinced that Joshua never really wanted to box Ruiz, unlike Joshua there was no just intensity from him, it's only a rematch that would completely erase the doubts n suprise surrounding this fight. |

Politics › Re: Aisha Buhari Tells Security Chiefs: Act Now Before Bandits Finished Our People by Deepthoughts: 9:33pm On Jun 01, 2019 |
kidap: Wife of Nigeria’s President, Aisha Buhari, has challenged security agencies to quickly end banditry and other insecurity challenges in parts of the country.
Mrs Buhari who made the call on Saturday in Katsina while distributing relief materials to over 25,000 victims of bandits attacks, said it was necessary to degrade the criminals before they end the civil population.
“The security agents should either assist to take action or allow the situation continue until bandits finished killing our people,” she said.
Mrs Buhari said that all well meaning Nigerians should talk on things that were going wrong in the country, so as to elicit necessary action.
“We are not supposed to be here giving rice, milk and others items to victims of an incident during Ramadan period.
“We should not keep silent while things are happening, thinking that if something happens today it will not happen tomorrow,
“What happened today, will happen tomorrow, it will also happen next tomorrow if we keep silent.
“It is compulsory to speak the truth, it is not proper for us to give highest number of votes during the general elections and allow bandits continue killing people and keep quiet.
“We must speak on whatever is going wrong in the country,” she said.
Mrs Buhari said that she and wives of the former governors of Nasarawa, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom (Sen. Godswill Akpabio), were among those who donated the relief materials to the victims.
Earlier, the District Head of Katsina, Aminu Abdulmumini, thanked the President’s wife for the gesture.
He called on the government to intensify efforts toward addressing the menace.
“These people need assistance, but they want the government to address the situation to enable them continue with their normal life.
“Almost on daily basis, we hear sound of Nigerian Air Force fighter jets, yet, bandits are killing people, we don’t know what is happening,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that items distributed by Mrs Buhari included rice, milk, sugar and clothes among others to no fewer than 25,988 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The IDPs were from Batsari, Kurfi, Faskari, Danmusa, Jibia, Safana, Kankara local government areas among others.

Politics › Re: Sagay Explodes Over Supreme Court Verdicts On Zamfara, Rivers, Tells APC Wha by Deepthoughts: 1:15pm On May 31, 2019 |
Ebullience: By Wale Odunsi
Professor of Law, Itse Sagay (SAN) has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) legal team to apply to the Supreme Court for a review of its judgments on Zamfara and Rivers States.
According to him, the verdicts were a travesty of justice.
While the Supreme Court barred the APC from fielding candidates for the general elections, it nullified APC’s victory and declared Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner.
A statement he issued on Thursday said: “The Zamfara and Rivers State judgments are a national tragedy. We should not allow our legal system to throw up such unimaginable injustice.
“This major judicial disenfranchisement of the Zamfara and Rivers electorate should be reversed. I advise the APC legal team to apply for a review of the two judgments.
“Their Lordships ought to be given an opportunity to reverse this unprecedented tragedy.
“The prefix ‘Justice’ preceding he names of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal Judges is significant, for it prescribes what they stand for and what they represent: Justice!
“By this judgment, the landslide APC victories in the governorship, Senate, House of Representative and State House of Assembly are transferred to the PDP.
“If the APC primaries were defective, should the electorate be deprived of their democratic and Constitutional rights to vote? Is the electorate to be punished for the transgressions of party officials?
“Should the Judiciary replace the electorate’s decision and install losers in office? Could the Judiciary not have drawn on the deep recesses of its intellectual capacity, authority and its inexorable commitment to justice, to prevent this undemocratic calamity?
“Can the APC officials not be punished, for their lapses without denying the electorate their democratic rights? Should the Judiciary take over the electoral rights of the electorate? Is this not a clear case of technical law completely overthrowing justice?
“Have the members of the Supreme Court not achieved a level of creativity and authority to provide a solution without burying democracy and taking over from the registered voters as the judicial electorate?
“If this judgment had been an international one, it could have been described as ‘shocking the conscience of humanity’. In this case, it shocks the conscience of Nigerian humanity.”
Sagay said the Supreme Court is specially endowed with the power and authority to do justice and to ignore law when it is technical and would create injustice, and to avoid at all cost a mechanical approach to the interpretation of the law.
“Now, has justice been served in Rivers and Zamfara states? No! In one case innocent electorate in their hundreds of thousands were prevented from voting for their party by judicial order.
“In Zamfara, where voting took place, the verdict of the electorate was taken away from the victorious party and awarded by the Judiciary to the woeful losers.
“In the next four years, Zamfara State will be governed by a party and politicians rejected by the electorate. This indeed shocks the conscience of Nigerian humanity.”
He also referred to Section 140(1) – (3) of the Electoral Act, which prohibits any court from declaring a loser of an election elected even if the person with the highest votes was not validly elected.
“I am not interested in the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010. I am only deeply concerned and interested in the fundamental and peremptory principle of Justice.
“No Judge should announce his judgment until he is satisfied that Justice has been served, no matter how strong the pull of mechanical and technical law,” Sagay added.

OfoIgbo: I am not fooled by this judgement. This is just a ploy by the acting CJN to make him appear fair, so that he will remain as the CJN and possibly be allowed to sit in judgement on the case that Atiku will eventually bring to the supreme court. This is where he will do his hatchet job of awarding Buhari the legal victory, that will authenticate his presidency.
I hope PDP strategists are deft enough to follow my logic on this. This is just a game plan. Award PDP a state, and give APC the country, while at the same time, making the acting CJN seem straight-forward. Don't fall for this oldest trick in the book Yes there is lot of sense in what you wrote but the supreme Court couldn't have just ruled in favour of Apc considering the clear facts,as for Tanko let's wait for the evidences to be established by both parties first. |

Politics › Re: Ninth Assembly: APC Moves To Check Saraki, Dogara’s Influence by Deepthoughts: 10:26am On May 23, 2019 |
actiondrilling: The All Progressives Congress has put in place strategies to ensure that the President of the Senate, Bulola Saraki; and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, do not influence the election of presiding officers for the Ninth National Assembly, Akelicious has learnt.
Our correspondent gathered that the national leadership of the party and the preferred candidates for the positions of presiding officers had arranged a series of meetings with members-elect to douse apprehension.
It was learnt that President Muhammadu Buhari had held Iftar (dinner for breaking of fasting) with members-elect as part of the plans.
An APC chieftain told our correspondent that the party would work hard to thwart whatever plans Saraki and Dogara had against the emergence of its anointed candidates.
Akelicious had reported that the APC leadership had endorsed Senators Ahmed Lawan and Ovie Omo-Agege as the next President of the Senate and Deputy Senate President, respectively.
It also reported that Mr Femi Gbajabiamila and Ahmed Wase, had been anointed as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively for the House of Representatives.
But a member of the National Working Committee of the APC said party leaders were aware of counter-moves by Dogara to frustrate the agenda of the ruling party.
He said, “We are aware of clandestine meetings he had been having with some members of the House of Representatives against the wish of the APC.
“We are not surprised because he is no longer our member; but we are watching keenly the activities of our members who had been meeting with him.
“The agenda is for the party and everybody to respect party supremacy.”
Another chieftain of the party, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the party, was also monitoring developments in the Senate as some senators in the opposition PDP had stepped up their game to cause disaffection among the APC members, with Saraki at the background.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the party was not threatened by the influence of Saraki and Dogara.
He said, “I will advise we stop talking about Dr Saraki as far as the Ninth National Assembly is concerned.
“By the time President Muhammadu Buhari will be inaugurating the Ninth National Assembly, Saraki would have become a former member. So, he is to us irrelevant to this discussion.
“Dogara would be a floor member and of the opposition party, so he has no role to play in deciding who rules for the majority.”
Saraki and Dogara had emerged in 2015 as President of the Senate and Speaker against the wish of the APC, which they then belonged.
Issa-Onilu, however, expressed confidence that the situation would be different this time.
He said, “What happened in 2015 was a coup against the people of this country. It was a very unpatriotic action. Our President told them (members-elect) that much when they had Iftar(breaking of fasting) with him.
“I can assure you that the party has done enough to ensure that those that ran on our platform are loyal members who share in the vision of the party, who understand that we have a mandate to save this country from the PDP and their nefarious collaborators.
“They also understand that it would be a betrayal of the President, the party, and indeed, majority of electorate to work for those who the people rejected at the polls.”

Politics › Re: 2019 Elections: What Nigeria Can Learn From South Africa By Oke Umurhohwo by Deepthoughts: 8:03pm On May 20, 2019 |
stalyf: It was another test on African’s Preference for democratic tenets but South Africa didn't disappoint. The coastline nation held its parliamentary election on 8th May, 2019 and its outcome have left a relishing experience.
This came amid growing concern on the trajectory of democracy on the continent over rampant manipulations and high level of interference that distort leadership choices. From Algeria to Sudan, the news aren't palatable as relentless protests replaced ballot boxes to effect leadership changes.
Sit-tight leaders are not ready to yield power and have continued to make a serious mess of the democratic process. Even when they tried to conceal their anti-democratic tendency, their actions easily exposed their lust for power, albeit, undermining the process.
But South Africa chose to be different. Many had expected Nigeria to set the template for a transparent election on the continent but it emerged from its general election few weeks ago shrouded in more controversy than it was four years ago.
Issues ranging from voters suppression, inducement, violence, militarisation, among other lapses marred the Nigeria's electoral exercise. There is still contention whether the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collated results on a server or not but that will be answered in court in the coming days.
The scenario in the South African poll was far different as the process was more open and transparent. From the campaigning process to the collation of results, South Africa demonstrated that things can work if people are willing to let a process run its course. African National Congress (ANC) refused to tow the pattern of most African ruling party and allowed the process to reflect the wishes of the electorates.
For the entire time that the election process lasted, electorates enjoyed relative freedom in exercising their franchise and that was obvious in the eventual outcome of the contest. Pictures from polling units showed orderliness and hardly are any disruption by political thugs reported. Voters were able to make their choice without any form of suppression or intimidation.
Surprising enough, their streets and polling centres were free of huge security presence. As against the negative perceptions on holding elections in an African country, South Africa showed that things can be done the right way without rancour.
This was possible because of an honest and transparent process that removed doubts of manipulation and courageously implement monitoring and evaluation strategy for votes secured by the participating parties. Unlike the practice in most African countries, the country's top electoral body deployed technologies that not only ease the process of voting but ensured that those votes counted.
Counting of votes and collation were done electronically while party and their agents have access to real time results. This was the same proposition that the amended Nigeria electoral act made but it was turned down, stirring confusion on whether the manually collated announced results were the true reflection of the will of Nigerian voters.
In South Africa, a giant screen displayed results in real-time while citizens have unfettered access to monitor how well or otherwise their preferred candidates have performed. With this transparency, South Africa IEC have removed doubts that could ignite uncertainty and left parties and indeed, electorates with little or no concerns for manipulations.
A similar initiative would have saved Nigeria the question of integrity thrown at the election held few weeks back. Infact, Nigeria would have been a perfect reference for transparent and open poll for Africa and would not be taking INEC so long to give a breakdown of results it announced on its official website for public scrutiny.

tactius: The reason why marketers tell lies about the fuel they sell...is because that's the only way they can make enough money to keep their heads above water.
Because subsidy , in essence...forces them to sell without profit...they lie about liters sold...or they go under...and jobs get lost.
Another thing....many of these marketers also earn some money via smuggling fuel to Benin and Niger...where it costs N290 and N370 per liter respectively. They earn a profit...and keep their heads above water into the bargain.
See, Nigeria is treating a business ...the business of petroleum...as if it is a welfare organisation. It isn't . Businessmen go into business to make a profit. If it were Johnathan the marketers would have been threatening strikes,no amount of explanations would have been good enough for them, what's stopping them now? |
Politics › Re: Marketers Shutting Down Due To High Petrol Price —DAPPMAN by Deepthoughts: 7:56pm On May 20, 2019 |
tactius: Nigerians, here is the crux of the matter.
Right now, NNPC is importing fuel at N200 and selling it to depots at N120...
Depots are selling it to marketers at N133-134 per liter
And marketers are selling at N145.
Now, due to the persistent low oil price (oil has never been above $80 since 2014...and for Nigeria we need oil at $140 per barrel to have enough revenue to forget about loans, etc)...NNPC is finding it difficult to sustain the charade.
So, since NNPC can no longer pay underecovery costs...subsidy....marketers and depot owners have to increase prices.
We can abuse PDP and APC and the military if we like. I know that most Nigerians are POOR....But...we can no longer continue with this subsidy of a thing. Unless we want to take another loan. The thing is...Nigeria does not have enough money to sustain the subsidy.
So, let's get ready for higher fuel prices. Hey...in poorer countries like Niger and Benin, fuel is above N300 per liter.
Anyone reading this is free to abuse me and call me a neo-capitalist, and a Buharist and a GEJ ist, and a rich man supporter...but either we earn enough revenue to sustain subsidy....or we forget about it.
For the health of our economy. what you wrote is largely correct, but you people should stop comparing the prices of fuel in other countries to Nigeria our currency value is not the same in exchange to the dollar please. |

CeeJay9ja: The Managing Director, TCN, Usman Mohammed has revealed the reason behind unstable power supply in Nigeria whereas Benin Republic and some other countries experience stable power supply. Nigeria supplies about 80 percent of the total quantum of electricity consumed in Benin Republic but Benin has more stable power supply than Nigeria, TCN has said.
Nigeria, through the TCN also supplies power to the Republic of Niger and Chad, and these countries are classified as international customers in the Nigerian power sector. Usman Mohammed explained the reason why these neighbouring countries get better power supply is because they have better electricity distribution networks and he advised that power distributors in Nigeria should pay a visit to these countries to learn.
He added " In Nigeria, you know that we have what we call cross arm, where they (Discos) put woods between the wires on distribution lines. But you won't see a single cross arm in the whole of Cotonou. You have a straight and good distribution network there"
He further said "we cannot have a stable grid unless we have an adequate investment on the distribution side and that is why we have been calling for a recapitalization of distribution companies. They need to have a commensurate investment on the network"
https://exposeitworld..com/2019/05/why-benin-republic-others-get-stable.html I have said it before n I still maintain it that unless the metering issue is properly address to make the collection of revenue to be effective n there by making investment in electricity business to be attractive we shall continue to wallow in the electricity quagmire we have found ourselves.make the business attractive n any other thing will follow no matter what as it is in the Telecom sector. |

In that case the HND should be abolish altogether and an appropriate degree programme created to take care of practical skill oriented courses to sort out the inferiority/superiority problem cause by the HND/Bsc dichotomy instead of continuing with a system that results to others to be seen as inferior all the time,as a matter of fact the polytechnics has been phased out in many countries n we should do same here. |

MrMash: The difference is hard to miss .
Try teaching both an entirely new thing and see who learns faster.
It would be a crime to pay both same salary .
University graduates are wired to be problem solvers and critical thinkers, Diploma holders are skilled craftsmen that take instructions. Go n form your own government n formulate whatever policy that suit your ego,as for this one it's done. |

kittykollinxx: A university degree is not a paper! taken nothing away from the polytechnic graduates, with all their skills they still need someone who understands the theories that drive the practice and that is why, university graduates should always have an edge. Without theories there's no productivity. Have you taken a careful examination of polytechnic graduate writing skills? so will there be productivity with theories without practice?,the reality is both are complementary n the dichotomy is needless but for egocentric fellows like you,if fluency in English is the true measure of competency then those that study English language as a course should be considered as the most competent. |

MrMash: But in all sincerity both are not same. what is your problem,is even B tech n Bsc exactly the same?, personally I will prefer the HND to scrapped altogether n all the polytechnics to be converted to various colleges with authority to award first degrees only in various spheres of learning to solve the dichotomy problem finally. |

walex2: I did not bother to read your illiterate trash, is Tanko in position to declared an injunction to be illegal? or court of law.Are you more qualified in judicial system than the NJC who absolved him? can the post of CJN ever be vacant? please go and educate yourself I'm not going to engage you in insults, but what I Know for certain is that the whole onnoghen saga was pre-planned n the NJC compromised, the appeal court ruling today on the ex parte order issued by the CCT which buhari n Tanko relied upon just confirmed it, buhari can do whatever he likes today, you can hail n cheer him on but it won't last forever. |

walex2: . it amazes me that some of you don't read before you make any post. The case has already resolved against the petitioner. it was resolved by the NJC that the acting Chief justice didn't made himself available to be sworn in but simply obeyed the valid court order of the Code of conduct tribunal that suspended the substantive CJN and recommended the next in line to be appointed as acting CJN.
just Google "NJC on Tanko petition" they also approved the request of the President to extend his tenure by 3 months pending the determination of all the preliminary cases in the court. You are been mischievous,Tanko said he was invited by the president n shown a court order suspending the CJ hence he agreed to be sworn as acting CJ, buhari never involved the NJC or NASS because the whole thing was pre-planned, now where most people fault Tanko n rightly too is,1,he should have known the ex parte order issued by CCT was fraudulent n invalid except if he wasn't allowed to peruse through the order which would have raised grounds for reasonable suspicion, but because he was surely brief n hence part of the scheme,he is only trying to explore n use lacuna in the law to justify illegality, for reasons best known to people like you,you support what is happening forgetting about a tommorow.A lot of people followed the story closely don't try to twist the narrations to suit your views please. |

sharpden: Source: https://politicstimesng.com/miyetti-allah-bandits-were-not-offered-n100billion-presidency/ Buhari/Apc can keep on decieving themselves, the simple wati of ending this crisis is ranching, now establishing the ranches is truly expensive, what should be done is for the states to establish the ranches while the fulanis n whoever wishes can apply n use the ranches on a fee,the ranches should be the sole property of the state without the users claim of ownership to take away the fear of most states, the northern states should be in the forefront of this idea, livestock rangers can be trained n deployed to protect the ranches but because of some hidden agenda this crisis has been allowed to fester on for a very long time now. |
