jantavanta:
Thanks. I understand. Looking back in time, did Linus Torvald's free open source vision turn out to be unwise? Was he altruistically giving out free, what others are making money out of?
Altruism is a virtue. No, he wasn't unwise in making free his open source version. However, he failed in protecting his patent in that regard and the reason for that is not farfetched; whereas he's ambitious but he's never covetous. This is in contrast to someones like Bill and Mark whom many out there assumded are covetous.

In fact, Linus is more of an inventor than an entrepreneur whereas the reserve is the case for Bill and Mark.
BusinessRe: Zuckerberg’s Non-verbal Message To Nigerian Entrepreneurs by Diplomaticbeing(m):
jantavanta:
Bill Gates was born the Son of a multi-billionaire or millionaire. Why compare him with Linus who could not source capital like Bill?
The last time I checked, the children of the richest men and political juggernauts of yesteryears are not automatically the richest people or highest political office holders of today - using our own very country as a case study. In a nutshell, one's family financial background especially in a country like the US can't limits his potentials once it's well defined. Linus was neither from a poor family nor did funds hindered his aspirations. Choosing your team wisely is a virtue.

By the way, I mentioned Torvald Linus because she wanted to use him to justify her postulation that destiny plays major role in the conquest of someones like Mark and Bill Gates. I hope you'll understand where we're. Thanks.

First i commend you, love talking with smart dudes. Nice write up what about Torvald Linux, if you don't know about the dude let me tell you a little about him, the dude invented Linux Operating system. Dude do you know what it takes to write an operating system in C for that matter and creating an enormous operating system called Linux which others copied and made other variant of the operating system. Why is Torvald not as rich as Bill. Another case study here in US so many code a lot even better than Bill and Mark but how many have created such products like facebook and windows/its applications. Its Destiny

Oh i forgot the man that invented C language which Microsoft Windows was developed with, why is the man not as rich as Bill and Mark lol should i continue to list them lol
You're smart no doubt about that. But believe you me when I say outside of mathematical applications 1 plus 1 doesn't equal 2.

Well, the reason why Torvald Linus and his ilks are not making money like Mark and Bill Gates is because; (1) a good product doesn't sell itself - the latter guys has better teams (managers, lobbyists, advertisers, marketers, specialist consultants etc) - remember business is all about packaging. (2) Bill and Mark knows their limits, so they had rather steal an idea of a better programmer and modify it .... boom they are up there and made. I hope you know of cases between Mark and the MySpace founder, and that of Bill vs Jobs ... these are just few examples in this regard.

The bitter truth is that many a time, people who gives their lives inventing products hardly live/have the monopoly to enjoy it. This is one of the reasons while people like Bill and Mark imitates - by the way, imitating is never a crime but faking is. Just as avoidance of tax is not a crime but evasion of tax is a crime. Also, I hope you have heard of bending the rule but not breaking it.
BusinessRe: Zuckerberg’s Non-verbal Message To Nigerian Entrepreneurs by Diplomaticbeing(m):
StephanieLuv:
I never said hard work is hard labour, nope let me give you a scenario for you to understand what i mean't. A professor of economics in school always trading stocks of companies but still broke while university drop out is a billionaire. Perfect example Bill Gates and millions of professor of economics round the world. Bill figured out his destiny and knew school was not the way to it and added hard work to his purpose/destiny which gave birth to massive success.
I see you making references and comparison about a possible professor of economics who remains poor despite his "supposed" knowledge of finance and investment in a stock trading, and a school dropout who became wealthy either in the same stock trading or another line of business. Well, the cause of such occurrence is not really destiny, instead it's a validation of the postulation that concrete knowledge is superior to abstract knowledge. And guess what; it's easier to gain concrete education in any sphere through self and continuous education than through formal education. Been a professor of economics doesn't confer the holder mastery on act of wealth acquisition. You can be a professor of economics without having financial knowledge, but you can have financial knowledge without being a professor of economics.

"The easiest means one can gloss his ignorant in any spheres of life is to acquire a formal education in such sphere with mastery of the national lingual franca."

Another example; the reason while Mark and Bill Gate are better off in all ramifications than their contemporaries (who possibly had PhD's) in the same ICT field, is not because they're destined to be rich, no, instead they have concretes knowledge about the profession, thus their abilities to invents and innovates.
BusinessRe: Zuckerberg’s Non-verbal Message To Nigerian Entrepreneurs by Diplomaticbeing(m):
GossipHeart:
What works for him will not work for you.
There is what is called destiny

I'm the laziest person on earth, but when i was a kid i knew i would be a millionaire, i use to tell my friends then that even if i sleep for 60 years straight without working that im destined to be rich, i eventually became a millionaire at the age of 22 without working for no one for a single day, that's destiny

If hard work guarantees success barrow pushers, brick layers, bus drivers would be billionaires because those guys grinds and works harder than everyone in this world
Foremost, every living human being is automatically divinely favored, so everyone is destined to be rich, but only few people can realize it. Therefore, I would say, forget talk about destiny.

You and many others failed to understand what "hard work" is. There's a difference between when a job is a hard work (hard labor) and when someone work hard in his job. E.g. of a job that is hard work is a wheel barrow pushing - someone in this job can also be a hard worker in it, however no matter how much hard work he put in, he can never become wealthy from it. But he can build wealth from it; he can do this through reinvestment of his proceeds to another line of business - a meaningful one.

Meanwhile, "hard work" is absolutely necessary, because in it lies luck, when mixed with smart work. Before I go on, you cannot plant an orange and expects to harvest an apple, no. When you work hard in a meaningful venture, you reap bountifully - this explains the reason why someone like Mark that is young and started his business in less than 12 years ago, is now more wealthier than more than 99% of the people that started business with or after him. Without hard work (when you sum up the number of hours he and his employees work in a day, then you will understand how much hard work he does) and smart work (rendering meaningful and high end services) he wouldn't be a billionaire today.

Citing your claim of been a millionaire without doing hard work, that is fine - but what you failed to tell people is that you have a valuable service(s) be it legal or illegal, that you renders to someone/the masses - so you can see that one cannot escape hard work and smart work in the journey of wealth acquisition.

The last paragraph now brings me to mastery of an act - which is the first step toward building wealth, I mean, one cannot make a sustainable money without mastering an act (you must be an expert in whatever you do) either directly on indirectly, before you can make money - big/small. There's an axiom that says one who wants to eat toad should eat a fat one, so that when called a toad eater he would boldly and cheerfully answer.

My wealth building formula is:

(1) Become an expert in something meaningful (you can't be a wheel barrow pusher and still expects to earn like the producer of the wheel barrow itself).

(2) Self-education/development and Innovation in line with your chosen area(s) of expertize and learns when to divest if it becomes necessary; just imagine a company that was into typewrite production business in the 70s, if they are still in it up to now without divesting to computer manufacturing and without knowledge that such a product line is no longer valuable to majority of the masses, obviously they would be blaming the witches from their villages for their misfortune or assumed that it's their destiny to become poor after enjoying success.

(3) Commercialization of one's services. There's a difference between when you're selling your services/product to one person (no matter the volume he buys) and when you are selling same to more than one person whom all buys in larger quantities.

Last but not the least, create your life path and encrypt it.
FamilyRe: Should I Call My Uncle by Diplomaticbeing(m):
Being a cheerful giver and gracious receiver are virtues. @OP, even though you appeared like someone with sense of entitlement complex (which is a bad attitude - never expect but accept ), yet your grievances on this particular issue is understandable. But don't cast aspersions on your uncle yet, his action could be an aberration.

If I were you, I would write not call, to thank him and in the cause of it mention the amount received. E.g. "uncle thanks for your kindness, I got the 3,000.00 (three thousand naira you sent to me)."

Then, after he received your message, ' if it was an aberration on his part he would correct it, but if otherwise you accept it in good faith, too.
PoliticsRe: Patience Jonathan: "Frozen Account Belongs To Me" - Ex First Lady Tells Court by Diplomaticbeing(m):
OP and his ilks are just being prejudicial which is a sign of pettiness. The case is before the court of competent jurisdiction, so let's allow it to pronounce the woman guilty before casting aspersions on her.

Believe you me, it's only a foolish person that would be opportune to attain the position of Mrs Jonathan without devising legal means to amass riches. Don't forget, No law of the country banned anyone that occupies/occupied a first lady office from owning companies either directly or indirectly.

Breaking the law of a country/organization is a crime, but bending such a law is never a crime. E.g. tax avoidance is not a crime, but tax evasion is a crime.

Honestly i was telling someone and they told me he might be under spiritual attack, i dont believe he is though, he is simply being careless, when the car had the accident, i had register the car for a comprehensive insurance with excess buy back, meaning insurance will repair the car or refund all the repair cost, okay i ask my brother to bring money so that we can repair the car and i will pay him back once insurance refund us but he said he has no money that only 80,000 remaining with him, how can 80,000 be remaining when in the uber account he has received over 700,000 naira, he doesnt buy anything in the house and that is inclusive of the table water we drink in the house, i buy food stuff, pay for all bills, so where did all the money go, my junior sister is still serving when Buhari didnt pay their Alawee she purposely refused to call me but called him to send money for her to feed, he refused when my sister was almost fainting, she put a call thru to me that she is empty and has been begging him to send at least 5k to her to feed till govt pays but he refused, i was so shock that he couldnt even afford to bail out his little sister with 5k, i had to send the money to my little sister, he hasnt given anyone in the family any money that we know of, where did all 700,000 go. my other brother which i also sponsor his education has warned that i do not spend a peny on him anymore, i wish he can change and also be like every other boy husstling in the street
Selfishness is one among the sixteen ill attitudes anyone with extreme sense of entitlement complex possesses and exhibits. For one, he's not under any form of spiritual attack instead he's just been petty.

If only you knows how to handle people that are full of shenanigans and mischiefs then, your trial would become over soonest. When someone wants to kill his beloved dog, he would make a sacrifice of throwing out a bone for it to step out to eat and in the process he would kill the dog at one strike - this is always done to lessen guilty on the part of the dog owner and of course to ensure that the dog itself has a happy ending in disguise.

Do you intend retaining your apartment after your wedding or are you going to leave it for him? If the answer is the latter as I presumed, I wonder how's he going to maintain it without your assistance since it's obvious that he has nothing to hold on now or in the nearest foreseeable future.I hope you will see my logic here and the need to consider the points I made in the last message which I used the dog adage above to substantiate.

Hey! Remember, a sane, sound and informed person shouldn't live on other people's opinion (seeking advice from others is the perfect thing to do and here you have just done that), so the final decision on what to do and how to handle the issue should be solely your opinion. I pray you will find a solution that will guarantee you personal peace, and a peaceful resolution between you and your brother's misunderstanding.
FamilyRe: My brother is driving me nut - How Should I Handle This Family Issue? by Diplomaticbeing(m):
robedu:
Renting a house is not an option now as my wedding is coming early next year, so i think i will have to put up with him till then, i would have loved to leave the car for him totally but 2 things bothers me, 1) the fact that while he is making money on the car, he cannot even repair it, if anything is wrong with the car he will leave it like that until im tired of complaining then i will fix it myself, if i leave the car i use my hard earn money to buy for him, he will let it rust, secondly, since my weding plans came up my elder sister told me our house in the vilage is in a bad state that even coming for intro will be a serious embarrassment, so i am doing some renovation, at least the roof that has all gone bad so rain will not come and be chasing inlaws on the intro or trad day, putting that house together will cost me over a million naira, and on the other hand, my fiance just started work few years ago, he was living with his parent until our engagement, so renting a comfortable house plus doing all the wedding stuff is going to be difficult for him so i have to save some money to support where i can, so in literal meaning, i need all the money i can get to plan my life, knowing none of them will offer help
I say to you once more, I understand perfectly well your trials. At this juncture, you have to seek for an antidote of emotional/psychological blackmail, because he will soon resort to it. I, for one, I can't put up with any form of emotional blackmail because it do weaken me down to the bone marrow. Thus, the reason why if someone around me fails to be a source of positive energy to me, I cut contacts with such a person without wasting time. So, how best you handles emotional blackmail will either make your decision to keep him around a good of bad choice.

Meanwhile, your case is somehow different thou, you're a woman, so you shouldn't postpone your marriage plans - spending your hard earned money to cater for important needs you enumerated - just to fix him up first, no. If you we're to be a man I'd say, for blood sake, postpone your marriage plans and help him one more time to affix himself somewhere and from there start fending for himself.

By the way, doesn't he has unmarried friend(s) who're in a similar or better situation like/than him but ambitious? If he has, use a third party entity (this third party must be a family member who will not go out to tell the whole world the misunderstanding in your family) suggest to him to liaise with such a friend to share his (his friend) accommodation and its expenses. This method will be cheaper for you to use relocate him while at the same time he would be a co-owner and have pride there instead of a freeloader. Anything you can do to get him off closer to you and independent too, I suggest that you do. And since you can't afford leaving the car to him considering the financial burdens on your shoulder, make the sacrifice of helping him to relaunch his photography business, since he already has the equipments - this will also be less expensive for you to bear at this juncture. Don't leave him completely empty handed, because if you do, he may do an unthinkable thing to you.

I am always in support of reducing contacts when disagreement arises between siblings, but I will never supports burning the bridge. So, whatever decision you may conclude taking, make sure that you don't burn the bridge that holds both of you together. All in all givers never lack.

Believe you me, with diplomacy you will always overcome many life difficulties and people that brings negative energy to you without making them feel hurt.
FamilyRe: My brother is driving me nut - How Should I Handle This Family Issue? by Diplomaticbeing(m):
@OP
I can relate to your story nay pains 100 percent, because I have been there and still in it. Sincerely, the worst thing that will ever happen to anyone is having sibling(s) who has sense of entitlement complex. And it gets worse when one is an altruistic type; since the sufferings of people closer to you will always automatically knock you down emotionally and physically, by extension you see yourself become self-enslave to them.

Citing your postulation, your brother is the extreme opportunist type, now you have to reciprocate his ill attitude by feigning apathetic towards him. Give him some distance by relocating him to another apartment far from where you live (even if it is a room) and stop discussing your conquests with him. Allow him to fend for himself. This is the easiest way to keep him in check and balance. But before you do that, either consider to leave your current car for him, if you can afford an alternative or you buy him a smaller one/help him get back to his photography business. Once you can do any of this, feign apathetic towards him I say.

If you fail to act now, believe you me, you will soon become his worst enemy. Because he will always expects you to satisfy his request whenever he made one. Such a person never want to hear a "I don't have" kind of reply. To them there's no way you can't have to give, so they always assumed that your inability to satisfy their request at anytime means you have become wicked towards them. In their myopic state, you're a supper human being, so should be living above lacks and difficulties. His type is also quick to taunt, chastise, disparage and judge one.

However, no matter the happenstances, never alienate yourself completely from him, because as the saying goes blood is thicker than water. Siblings will always disagree to agree.
RomanceRe: My Woman No Longer Care. Need Some Advice by Diplomaticbeing(m): 2:28pm On Sep 08, 2016
@OP

Relationship of any type is meant to be enjoyed not endured. And the first unspoken rule to observe before entering into an intimate relationship in particular, is telling yourself that no body is indispensable in your life.

Any relationship that necessitates one of the parties involved to self-enslave oneself to make it work/sustain it is not a healthy relationship. Altruism from both the parties involved towards each other is what makes a relationship healthy and sweet.

So, if you search your heart and you are sure that you had been altruistic towards her all the while, then I suggest that you should call off her bluff. Assume as if she never crossed your path before.

Although, I know that a time always come in a relationship when one of the parties involved would need to cut contacts (temporary separation) to evaluate oneself and the journey so far, before considering to move forward together or to put an end to it entirely, this could be the case here - especially, if she was the one that had contributed more to the relationship while it lasted. In the event this become the reason, I will still maintain my stance as stated above, call off her bluff. Let her be the one to re -establish contact with you at her convenience.

Weaklings and petty men long for control, while real men believe in allowing their women to exercise their nature given freewill, yet they are always in charge of their women in particular and environment at large - they achieve this through acts of diplomacy and altruism.

Petty men are self-conceited and they are full of mischiefs and shenanigans, thus their possessive attitude.

A leader is different from a ruler/dictator. As far as I am concerned, freewill remains the best gift the creator of the world gave to mankind, so no one should deprive another the privilege to enjoy it. Any adult woman/person that needs another person to control her before she will behave well only lack good morality and quality IQ.

If your woman fears you rather than respects you, then know that you are seating on a time bomb waiting for explosion. Because the very moment she emancipates from that which you used hold her under your control, you are as good as dead.

Although, I know that some women are not left out of this kind of petty attitude, but that will be a subject for another time.

As I said in my foremost post on this thread, I share in your pains and that of others who may be in the same situation like you. Also, I neither propagate nor practice staff exploitation. No business finds it easy in any recession. I don't know much about zenith bank but there are some banks still declaring profits. Brother forget, all these cost cutting measures are just to make sure shares and dividends add up. I said that earlier. You are trying to conclude every organisation pays according to structure. It is a fact that many employees are underemployed in this part of the world. What's the competitiveness of Nigeria companies with their fellow ones in the same industry?
Yea, No company wants to loose an asset but not in a time where talents are not scarce.
The fact that a bank cooked its open audit report to appear profitable and flourishing to the outside world does not make it healthy.

That's your own thought. The average black man prefers pay to position. You didn't understand the OP. She didn't come out out say I am a manager earning 25k. She stated her work schedule and mentioned the pay, Meaning she feels the pay does not match the work load. Which is true. Understanding is key!
Fact is different from fiction. Take her assumption about zenith bank for instance, from afar she has concluded that they are raking huge profits (under this same recession), why at the same time sacking some of their workers and cutting salaries of the retained ones. However, any logical, informed and altruistic person would know that a bank like zenith is not finding things easy since the inception of the current administration.

Ask her what's her company net profit in the last financial year. And what's the current size of her company, their turnover and gross income in the last six months. What sector of the economy are they operating in.

Things always look rosy when viewing from afar or outside until you get closer or inside then you will know the true state of things.

If her output is truly greater than her earnings, then I had expected her to know that the best thing to do is to give the company a condition to either increase her pay or she resign. No sane company will willingly love to lose its human asset.

I have always advise every employee to make themselves an asset to their companies, when that is done leverage on it to make demands for promotion/pay rise and an opportunity to be a partner/director in the company - a la MKO Abiola.

@ first bolded, a reason why many Nigerian entrepreneurs fail in business. There is what is called structure and no position is useless. Each business should be structured whether it's just one employee or 2. Each should know his responsibilities and be allowed to work. @ second bolded, we are always about sales forgetting quality should come first. Must every one work as a sales agent in such a company. There are other positions that will add value to your organisation. I ll share a file with you that will make you better understand. Entrepreneurship needs to be redefined to many Nigerians.
Only engage me in dialog on how to run a successful company if you have a flourishing one that has been in operation for up to a decade. Thanks.

On the flip side, I don't remember saying that any position is useless; instead I want her to realise that she should be less concerned about whatever designation a company offered her and look out for the substance the company is made of. I know that the easiest way to enslave most black employees is to give them one big designation.
CareerRe: Employers Stop Frustrating Us!!! Cry Of A Nigerian Youth. by Diplomaticbeing(m):
@OP

I share in your pains and that of any other person in the same position with you. However, many a time some of you employees hard tell yourselves truth; the size and net profit (not just turnover or gross profit) of a company will always determine what it pays its employees. Cost of operating a company is not a small one. And every company owner(s) is in business to maximize profit, though it shouldn't be to the detriment of the staff and customers.

Take for example you apply for a job in a sachet water company and expects the company to pay you 300k per month just because of one useless portfolio designation they gave you. Does that make good sense to you? If you wished to earn big, prepare yourself well and apply for a job in a big and meaningful company. You cannot plant an orange and expect to harvest an apple.

I challenge you, if you are certain that you deserve better wage than that particular company has offered you, go into partnership with them by becoming their independent commission agent/consultant (subject to your professional role) - this is the best way go test how resourceful you are as a person. You will be a boss of your own while using their facilities and your earnings/profit will be subject to what you can bring to the table rather than what you assumed that you deserved.

The different Gods of the people and the search for these Gods is the root of Religion.
There must be one God but assuming we stop the use of the name God or Allah or other names and just say the Creator. This gives us a realistic title that everyone can identify with, a title which means the one that conceived and created the earth - whatever this infinite Spirit may be named is beyond our comprehension. This solves the big problem in religion and it is one of the basic teachings of Spirituality to say the titles Creator or the Infinite instead of the name God. So in favor of Atheism Spirituality says there is no God but in opposition it agrees that there is the Creator who is Infinite in comprehension and too great to be named by any singular name.

Learn the act of self-effacing. Obedient is better than sacrifice hence more glorifying. One who comes to equity must come with a clean hands.

Learn from your mistake. Apply diplomacy to reconcile with your employer's (not necessarily to continue working for them) and find your happiness there but better elsewhere.

If not for one singular reason, I'd say just shut up and keep off my mention.

For your guide, it's only a stupid person that would expects a heroic status after lossing in a battle that he entered into conscientiously. Wise people only takes to fight when they are at least 90 percent certain of winning it and in the cause of it, if they started to observe that they would lose it in the end, they employs surrender tactics which will lead to a peaceful resolution instead of having them knocked than completely in the battle filed. A loser in any cause deserves no honour.

Stelf-conceitedness is not the same thing as smartness.

By the way, my humble self is a social crusader -a maverick one - not an e-warrior like you possibly are.

Obedient is better than sacrifice, hence more glorifying. People should learn how to pick their fights wisely. Tolerance is never a sign of weakness. Whenever you choose to fight a superior, associate or a close friend wisdom dictates that you should consider as broken whatever ties that holds both of you together.

The guy should have staged a solo peaceful protest after the group one or write to them privately in most polite manner instead of abusing the authority openly as he did. Through his actions, I see him as a self-conceited guy.

Meanwhile, to most of you that always like to use the cliche "in a sane clime" in a situation like this, my findings shows that non of you has ever crossed the shores of this country. Respect is reciprocal.

@OP

You tried. However, don't be a sore losser. Take note, self-conceitedness never takes anyone far in life. Well, as the saying goes brevity is the soul of wit; the chosen one is better than yours in this regard.
