ProfCorruption: Michael Opeyemi Bamidele ProfCorruption: Michael Opeyemi BamideleHe has been snookered I guess. Well Mr Fayose might save him and let him be the PDP candidate for the House of Rep. Otherwise, he's messed up. APC will deal with him ruthlessly if he returns to their fold. Remember, this guy's decamping to Labour and his running fights against Fayemi damaged the latter's prospects in the last election. |
The problem for Mr Jonathan is that Mimiko actually brings very little electoral fortune right now. The guy cannot win the Ondo election for GEJ. If GEJ wins in Ondo, it will be because people want him to win, it wont be because of Mimiko. Right now, Mimiko needs PDP more than PDP needs Mimiko. |
Funny enough, Mimiko's decamping will create massive ruckus in the local PDP that could play into the hands of the APC, if only the APC got its acts together. The Adamawa PDP problem will repeat itself in Ondo, as the PDP leaders in Ondo absolutely hate Mimiko's guts. There is no way Mimiko will gain the PDP party structure in Ondo. It will be fight to the finish, and the infighting will lead to a lot of defections lol! If only...if only... APC would let local people pick their own leaders! |
Sad thing is APC is so poorly placed in Ondo state that PDP will win the next governorship elections. I hear Mr Akeredolu, who did so poorly in the last elections is also being lined up to contest in 2yrs time. He is a nice man, but he simply doesn't have what it takes to win an election. This is one of those occasions where the APC national leadership should allow the local party to pick their own candidate. A local and popular APC candidate will floor the PDP. |
He has no choice, he will end up joining the PDP. Labour party is DEAD in Ondo State. The way the Labour party has collapsed in Ondo state is extraordinary, given how popular it was just 2 years ago - in the runup to Mr Mimiko's re-election. |
This is a massive test for Mr Atiku. His credentials as a potential APC Presidential candidate will be severely dented if he can't deliver his State to the party come October. Not that I think he will defeat Buhari in the APC presidential. |
Well, together these states are responsible for about 40% of the country's non-oil GDP. So why is the Op surprised that they have a similar ratio of the debt. This is like someone saying Nigeria is responsible for 60% of total national debts among West Africa countries. Well, where is the 'news' in that statement. |
I hope it's not too late to haul Ms Oduah before the Senate for questioning. But then again, those corrupt senators will only ask her paddy-paddy questions that will avoid the real issues. There's really no where to turn. Everything is messed up. |
When the rest of Nigeria wanted to put the searchlight on Ms Oduah's shenanigans at the aviation ministry, we were accused of witch hunting her, and that she was the best minster ever lol! Now, look at this disgraceful picture. This clearly raises serious questions about Ms Oduah's probity. And to think that she is scheming to enter the Senate next year on the PDP platform! |
Unbelievable. If true, O jo mi loju o. A one-time presidential candidate of a party just defects like that once another party dangles governorship ticket in his face. But he told us he lived by different tenets and was different from the rest of them. And now this? Greedy, no-principle man. |
^^ So true, there is very little authentic historical facts left in Nigeria. With the internet, everyone can cleverly re-write history. That's not a commentary on this particular thread by the way - I don't really know anything about the situation in Akwa Ibom. |
A senior security official mocking an arrestee for being disoriented is beyond the pale and so unprofessional. It's the equivalent of a doctor mocking a weak and helpless patient behind his back. Everywhere you look, the country is such a disappointment. I am sorry to say that, as I want the best for the country. It's just so hard to be hopeful when you see what's happening. |
Always interesting to see people mischievously enlist the SS into some kind of unholy alliance of hatred against Yorubas. When did SS and SE people meet and agree on this evil charade? Obviously I can't talk for everyone in the SS, but many people I know from my side would be repulsed by the idea of being told who to like or dislike. I have zero problems with Yorubas, or Hausas, Igbirra, Igbos or whatever. |
Abagworo: ...when the Europeans came, cities like Ife, Ogbomosho, Oyo, Ibadan, Abeokuta were already large urban areas while the Igbos then were rural dwellers. Most Igbo cities were planned and built by Europeans in the last century but today some of those places like Aba and Onitsha have even grown to cities of over a million or more.Must explain the lovely brown roofs in those places, Benin, and some others. |
Why do people rush to throw insults when they can easily read and exit a thread without commenting. I just don't get it. So sad. |
My No.1 priority right now is fighting corruption, and the only person I trust to genuinely pursue this goal is Mr Buhari. God-willing, my first-ever vote in this country will go to him if he's presented. All the talk about generational shift is nonsense. GEJ is one generation behind Buhari - how effective has he been? If APC presents anybody else, even Fashola, I will not vote. Fashola cannot fight corruption - I know a bit about what happens in Lagos. |
Nigeria without APC or at least an opposition as visible as APC will leave us the people at the intolerable mercy of the nasty party. |
^^^ You abuse the man. But when others abuse Mr Jonathan, you're up in arms and cursing. The man outsmarts PDP most of the time, so I would've been surprised if the PDP, through the Federal machinery, were not on his trail. The Federal Govt must be listening to the conversations of hundreds of people for different reasons. Most governments eavesdrop on their citizens for 'security' reasons. |
I don't believe most people hate Mr Jonathan. They just feel let down by him, as he's by and large ineffectual. I personally have written off his administration, as I can't get my head round the massive corruption that has gone on in his administration. Please don't tell me there was corruption before he came into power. That's not my business. He is accountable for what is going on right now. Arghhh!...to think that woman Deziani is still in government, and not in jail! Let's try Mr Buhari. If he too fail us, we vote him out too. |
This is actually a Lagos State project. It was conceived and planned by the state. Unfortunately, under the Constitution, the Federal Government has authority over the building of Sea or Air ports. Once Lagos state started discussion with the Federal Government for permission, the Federal Govt insisted it must have a share in this sweet project before it would allow it to go ahead . Also, that the Federal share must be more than that of Lagos state, hence the 20% to 18.5% Federal/State holding. . See the pettiness of the so - called Federal Govt? Now they are arguing about how much Lagos's equity contribution is worth, more than 2 years after they could have raised this issue. For those who don't know, Federal Government is simply trying to frustrate this project or at least slow it down as much as possible. But for the constitutional issue, Lagos State didn't/doesn't need the Federal Govt's involvement in this project, but the Federal does not want the glory of this project to go to Lagos State. Remember, there is a good chance that this port will be a major competitor to, and put to shame, the Federal-owned Apapa/Tin Can ports. The Federal govt is just looking for ways to sabotage this project. Nigeria's Federalism is a sham. The PDP Federal govt is always out to impose itself on states, especially opposition states. |
PDP caught APC napping twice and outmanoeuvred them- in Adamawa and Ekiti. I suspect PDP will find it more difficult to achieve their mago mago going forward. Well, Osun will be a litmus test of Mr Tinubu's time-tested ability to outsmart his opponents. |
Banning it is not practicable - it will alienate even moderate moslems and incite more extremism. Also, the male bombers appear to dress like most Nigerian males - trouser and shirts or normal traditional dress. Are we going to ban these and insist all men wear shorts and old style singlets, the type that has holes in them so that we can see if they are carrying bombs or not. The Nigerian situation is now so complex, there are no simple answers to the insecurity problems. |
I thought the entire PDP impeachment scam was about bribing greedy members of the various Houses of Assembly. If that's the case, then PDP only needs another small crumbs from the missing (stolen) $12 billion to turn the heads of members of this panel. If the cash inducement is large enough, most Nigerian politicians will sell their soul whether or not their fathers, uncles, mother or whatever is the victim. PDP! No need to protest. As you are fond of doing, just throw loads of money at the panel members, and impeachment will be delivered. |
edogirl2: Someone high-up in SW politics told me just last week that PDP are very confident of winning in Osun. She said 'the only way 'that rascal' will win is if PDP panics and pull back..Haba! Just seen my handle has been changed to edogirl2. Which kind thing be this! Mods, what happened to my old handle - edo.girl? |
Someone high-up in SW politics told me just last week that PDP are very confident of winning in Osun. She said 'the only way 'that rascal' will win is if PDP panics and pull back. It left me thinking, pull back from what exactly,,,rigging? PDP certainly has something up its sleeve. I think it's important for APC supporters to turn out to vote and keep their eyes wide open at the voting centres. PDP is the master of abracadabra election results. |
Ferocious, throat-slashing terror group, the Islamic State of Iraq & the Levant (ISIS) have outlined their mission to create, within 5 yrs, a new caliphate sweeping across vast swathes of Africa, the Middle East & parts of Asia, and some parts of Eastern Europe. Under the new structure, Nigeria will become part of the Islamic State of Maghreb, and world map and country boundaries as we know it will wear a new look. Source article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2674736/ISIS-militants-declare-formation-caliphate-Syria-Iraq-demand-Muslims-world-swear-allegiance.html It seems the battle against Islamic terrorism is for the long term, one that could last for years if not decades and will possibly outlast Boko Haram. Given its size and relative importance, Nigeria will probably be in the top ten list of battle grounds for any Islamist terrorist group with continental or global aspirations. Is the country in a bigger trouble than we assumed? And do we have sound analysts advising the government on planning and strategy. |
gratiaeo: [/s]A proud Edo lady who has a mind of her own. Deal with it! |

If you look at the report you quoted, nowhere did anyone from LASG state that the yacht belonged to the government. That statemet about Lagos State involvement came from the guy Kunle Awosiyan who was part of the crew that sailed to the inauguration. He reports.. Essentially, a reporter who thought the yacht belonged to LASG. aAlso the Minister remarked about the cooperation between LASG and the private sector. He did not say the product belonged to LASG. Know that even if you want to own a danfo in Lagos, you need the 'cooperation' of the LASG. And if your 'danfo' is a unique hotel yacht, to be moored on one of the most important places in Lagos states, and indeed Nigeria, you bet that you will need to work hand in hand with Lagos government right before you even get on the plane to meet the seller. When Dangote signed the multi billion dollar refinery loan deal, what was the first thing he did? - he went straight to Aso Rock and told us without the Fed's support, the dream would not have gotten anywhere. GEJ/PDP would have been happen to be associated with such a unique project. This is how these things work. So you are correct in saying that when things work, politicians claim credit. When it fails, they distance themselves. Had this thing worked as planned, it would have been a massive coup for Lagos, and invariably ACN. There was nothing of this type in Africa. I hope LASG will have learnt from this episode. |
Mr Bishop, You shout. You rave. You threaten. But you don't communicate. Tell you who I am? What's my business with you? 'Cause we jam for nairaland? |
themaskedman: Sometimes it‘s better to just keep quite. The edo girl has just disgraced her self and plenty of her likes on nairaland. Tinubu and Buhari will surely be raging mad now.Calm down. I have only stated the truth as I know it. |
Having not seen the name of Lagos state on any of the documents, the only 'investment' Lagos could have had in the project was in helping to secure its mooring location in Victoria Island, granting land use waiver or some other taxes to help create a workable investment environment for the project to work. As I said previously, by the time the yacht arrived in Lagos, the owners had no money left to run it as a business and it was in Lagos's interest to help get the business to work. So, if they invested at all, it would be in the form of peripheral waivers. If this was a Lagos State project, the State would not have allowed more that N4 billion value destruction because of about N200 million naira needed to get it off as a business. And why would the lending bank not go after Lagos State for the debt repayment, instead of offloading it unto AMCON? To my knowledge AFCON does not take on state government debts. |
? On his way back to APC or finally moving to PDP?
