Emeka@SA: Why can't your king be insulted, but you can insult the SA king. Are they not both humans?
Femi@Lagos: Look, even if what my king did was wrong, the kingship extends beyond the person. It's the stool that must me respected.

Emeka@SA: What nonsense are you saying, is the stool the king or the person the king? Does the Zulu king not also have a stool? abegi
Me: Guys, abeg take it easy. Both of you have a point you know. Emeka, despite what Femi's king said -and Femi admits it was wrong-
it might be too much for you to insult his king to his face. After all, I am yet to hear of two men who when quarrelling one calls the mum of the other an ashawo to his face even if this is a known fact in the community.

Emeka@SA: what nonsense. So if Hitler were alive and had children, are you saying the Jews cannot insult Hitler anytime they are near his children.
Me: Ehmm... I think that example is too extreme

Femi@Lagos: Esere why are you bothering yourself with this idiot. He would soon say he is a Jew. Abegi all flat heads should all go and die. Maybe that's what the SA's are helping us accomplish.
me: Haba Femi, that is cruel naw.

Emeka@SA: That's the way of these coward, gambari slaves. Always wishing death on others and then hiding behind others to bring it to pass.
Femi@Lagos: Although I was upset, I did not mean every word I said about you guys dying sha.

Emeka@SA: Yes, like how we hear that your king was only joking when he said that we would be drowned abi?
Femi@Lagos: I remember clearly that your own kings where busy clapping and cheering my king when he made the statement. That means it was a joke.

Emeka@SA: They were only being smart. How could they have done otherwise in the palace. So that your king would immediately dispatch them to the lagoon abi?.
Me: Permit me to interject. Guys, imagine if the Lagos king had also said that all the igbo women would be ravished.
Femi, would this have been considers a joke and not a threat by a stretch of your imagination? Emeka would your leaders have also clapped too to this jest or threat in order to escape the palace?

Femi@Lagos: Esere you are an ignoramus. You think you a re smart abi
Emeka@SA: Esere you are a tribalist, you don't want my people to progress. goat.
Me: Abeg make una no vex oooo.

Three friend hook up in a social media platform to discuss current happenings

Femi@Lagos: These South Africans are xenophobic mehn. Can you believe the way they are attacking foreigners and 9jas after how we helped them conquer apartheid. Emeka, i don't know what u people are still doing there
Emeka@SA: Its not about being here. This is an African country and we contribute to the economy just the way we have MTN and DSTV in Nigeria

Femi@Lagos: I hope you flat heads did not provoke them by saying that you make up 70% of their population and that SA is a no man's land
Emeka@SA: Femi, u dey craze. It's not only Nigerians that they are attacking they are attacking other Africans too.

Me: its' so sad o. How did it all begin?
Emeka@SA: It their useless South African Zulu king. He said something about foreigners not being welcomed, and pronto his people went on rampage.

Me: but I can't recall the Zulu king saying anything to the effect of encouraging his people to attack foreigners.
Femi@Lagos: The king should know better. He should know that whatever he says can be echoed by his illiterate followers and given a new and dangerous life.
Me: I guess that's' true.

Femi@Lagos: Can you believe that the kings spokesperson offered another statement in which the king stood by his earlier statement. That king na proper goat o.
Me: Ehm,,.. Femi, I remember that some weeks ago, your own king in Lagos threatened that Igbos will drown in the lagoon if they vote against his favoured candidate.

Emeka@SA: Don't mind that irresponsible Lagos king.
Femi@Lagos: Who are you calling irresponsible. Watch your mouth. How dare you insult my king if you don't have kings in your area
respect yourself... skaliwag, insolent buffoon, clueless anima.

Politics / Re: Does Government Providing Electricity Automatically Equate to Job Creation? by esere826: 11:34am On Apr 20, 2015
AhmedMustapha:

Op I disagree with your belief that the government providing stable electricity to the citizenry will not go a long way to solving the problem of unemployment in the country
1. When such a time comes and with a sincere government in place, the cost of running generators or other alternative sources will be in no way cheaper than the bills you will be charged by the distribution companies. With meters in place your charges will be commensurate with the actual amount of power used.
2. Looking critically at the Manufacturing sector, stable electricity will go a long way in reducing the cost of production enabling more hands to be employed in the process. You may argue that the high cost of production involved with the inconstancy of power doesn't change anything as all you need to do is raise prices then profit is made. Remember if the cost of manufacturing an automobile is N300 in the country as a result of the erratic power supply leading to high cost of production but the same product goes for N250 when imported from China, we can both guess where consumers will likely purchase the product from.
You may say government should stiffen import laws to discourage import of the said product but you forget that government requires revenue for smooth running and any progressive government will encourage exports to raise foreign exchange thereby boosting the economy, how can the said manufacturing company in Nigeria export and make profits when it's counterparts in China offer the same product at lower cost. This disparity occasioned by the unstable nature of power in the country will shut the Nigerian company out of business leading to loss of jobs and other negatives. I'm expecting your reply but there is no truth in your assertion that the stability of power in the country will have little or no effect on the rate of unemployment

Interestingly, at first glance, I think I agree with everything you wrote
You reasoning is very sound.

The original post is meant to promote elucidated discuss like you've provided on factors that can link job creation to power consumption and other policies
and to dispel the common misconception that 24hr electricity automatically equates to job creation on the scale that Nigeria would need
It's almost designed like common entrance exams that tests for verbal and logical reasoning aptitude.

All Hakim's I've met are tall does not mean that every tall person is called Hakim

cheesy I've had a laugh reviewing some of the comments made here
some subtly seem to be more concerned in mentally simplifying the discuss to me being anti APC, or anti tribe, or anti-common man
OR me feeling like a smart fellow grin
and their reaction to their inabilities is to reach out for their local and international dictionaries and look for all insults they can muster
But I digress

Kudos to you, but at this point, I believe you must be smiling to yourself now and thinking actually esere826 did not say that
"the stability of power in the country will have little or no effect on the rate of unemployment"

I believe the key part of this judgement is clear: Defection to another party is allowed ONLY when there is DIVISION IN THE NATIONAL STRUCTURE of the party.

So if Tambuwal can prove that there was division in the national structure of PDP, then he would have to lose his position as HOR member.
Clearly though, Tambuwal cited happenings in his STATE, thus he is not going to have any grounds to stand on.

it took 4 years for this case to get here
I don't think it will affect Tambuwal.
Our judiciary is notoriously slow

Even if it does affect him, he would be hinted so he can bow out gracefully

Omo see Gobe. The era of getting a position through a party and dumping it soon after is over.
I think there should even be more stringent rules for switching parties, even for non-office holders. That will better strengthen democracy. Not that almost every politician will abandon ship when their party looses thereby leaving the polity without strong opposition.

I agree
there should be more hurdles for none-elected officials too
this would ensure that when you are going into a party you are sure that its constituents are like-minded

kudos to the judiciary although this was late in coming
however its lateness enabled APC succeed, and it was important that the system was given a shock that opposition is able to win at the federal level too

Bros you're too much jor, I recently got a good excel book that will help me become a good model creator & programmer in it. No Nigerian university will teach one how to use Microsoft excel. It was actually in my final year that a visiting prof. from the US made it mandatory to create models & do assignments on Excel spreadsheets while learning petroleum economics. Ever since then I've had this undying desire to be very good at it. Thumbs up for creating this thread, it's a motivator for some lazy ones like me cheesy

All I know is this, Buhari must make a Naira equal to a Dollar.

Lest I forget, He should also stabilize global oil price

We need change grin
Although I agree that APC was quite full of propaganda during their campaign (more than PDP who also used propaganda), however this is what your link quotes GMB as saying:

“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar; this does not speak well for the nation’s economy,’’ he said.

The newspaper's headline of Buhari saying he'd make one naira equal one dollar surely does not do justice to that quote.

APC goons sha grin at that time, they kept quite and allowed some simpletons buy into this misinformation.

To me that is the only sensible thing you have said so far. The killings can not justified simple.

Except i missed something
no one on this thread that is Nigerian or otherwise has justified the killings. All have condemned it.
all we've done is to present our world views in explaining what is happening and what can be done to stop such barbarity and prevent it from ever taking place in the future

Some have encouraged that the strategy for avoidance can be owned by immigrants, while some suggest that it should be owned by the government. Others suggest that the strategy should be owned by the SA citizens themselves, some suggest a mixture of ownership.

And yet, others are only content with condemning what is happening and then insulting anyone that does not share their world view of how such xenophobic attacks can be mitigated.

So the only solution you see here is that Nigerians and other Africans should avoid SA ?

again...
that was my emotive suggestion

My straight forward and emotive answer would be yes, they should avoid going to places were there is a greater probability that they could be killed

However, I understand that life doesn't work that way, especially when one is also faced with constant life threatening dangers plus economic challenges in the place where one comes from.

So my diplomatic answer would be that those who which to travel to SA should try to gather as much information as possible (positive and negative info) and then use such information to try navigating through the labyrinth that is presently SA.
justwise:

That is not my question, i wasn't talking about some areas in SA but SA as a whole, do you want Nigerians and other Africans to stop going to SA?
That highlighted phrase was meant to refer to the entire SA (plus any other country were one is more likely to be killed than in the person's current location).

like I said, that particular answer is me being simple and emotive,
......but different from my second suggestion which I think is more realistic.

Dats just hw tins work in dis world. There are so many countries in africa but one particularly is known for xenophobism (as Nigerians are known for being dubious), that one is SA. Sir, to be honest SA society does not permit foreigners to "hustle". A lot of south africans are unskilled and therefor look for the hustling jobs. I don't think it is fair for a Nigerian or any other Nationality to go to sa and compete with their citizen. BTW the law in SA does not permit a foreigner to remain in SA if you don't have some skills which they call scarce skill or exceptional skills, so if you are living there without such skills you are either an asylum seeker or illegal.
Another set of people allowed to live in SA are business owners an by law your business must worth R5m. They have laws, we must respect their laws
justwise:
[/b]

So they should be attacked and killed?

Of course not
The OP is simply stating what he feels is the obvious

Its like the US embassy informing its citizens to avoid some states in Nigeria because of terrorism
it doesn't mean that the US is condoning terrorism if its citizen decides to go to such states and is consequently kidnapped

Another example is this:
-lets say girls that dress a certain way in the night and are in certain spots are typically w.hores
-the cops wrongly round them up once in a while and collect bribe from them or forcefully assault them.
-a descent girl happens to have dressed in a certain way and was at the same spot in the night doing something honest
-the cops came in and descended on her.

The advice here is two pronged
1) Cops should not harass folks
2) Please ladies try to avoid this spot at night, and even if you do, please try to dress differently.

I see nothing wrong with such well intentioned advice

however, the discussions are still relevant in order to feel the pulse of the electorate.

A number of people are making sense here, and this is what is coming through in the discussions:

1) We don't like the large number of political appointees that are a drain on our purse
2) Even the best government with the most noble of intentions might be constrained by constitutional provisions and/or national habits to trim down the number of ministers
3) No one wants to feel marginalized and all stakeholders expect to be treated fairly
4) Creative ways could be explored to prune down the number of ministers and other appointments
5) Constitutional amendments might be needed; or constitution challenged; or constitution bent to see this through

and finally:
6) APC is no longer trying to win the election. Talk is not what we need, after all GEJ was good at good ideas that were sent to committees and left to rot there. APC are soon going to be in charge. We want actionable CHANGEs and not mere proposals that might not see the light of day.

he was apparently being sidelined by the party hierarchy even in his home state Adamawa
this is quite demeaning especially when he had previously been used by ACN as a presidential candidate to embellish its progressive credentials and publicly made to eat his vomit regarding Tinubu's corruption credentials and then dumped for GEJ by that same Tinubu during the presidential election of 2011

And then came the offer from GEJ
