callmenow: The article said that UK government spent £14 million (pounds), equivalent to #4.5 billion Naira to secure the conviction of Ibori in London. Essentially, it is expensive to secure conviction within the rule of law (or going through the courts). That it did not cost Nigeria as much as UK to convict Ibori. In other words, the money used to secure Ibori is the money required to maintain all the anti corruption agency over ten years. Glad to help and guess what! the foolish senator seems not to be aware that the money was deducted from those recovered from Ibori ...in other words, UK used Nigerian money to provide jobs for UK people to prosecute a Nigerian whereas our silly EFCC is happy to post selfies showing how they returned all monies siezed from Yahoo boys back to foreign senders and then they go cap in hand to the the government asking for more funding |

akpumping7720: Ok...... what most of us don't know is that James Ibori was GEJ's number one enemy. Why do u think dat GEJ grants Alamesigha pardon? It was purely because he helped GEJ to d level he is now. But what could be said of Ibori? Ibori hates GEJ with passion that whenever they meet at FEC's meeting, he looks down on GEJ and makes GEJ look inferior. Even Ibori was the major sponspor of late Yardua's campaign, that was why he was discharged in Nigerian court of law. Ibori even kicked against Jonathan becoming president when Yardua died. He hate GEJ with passion and when GEJ eventually became d president, he asked d Attorney General to cooperate with the UK government to make sure that Ibori was apprehended so that he can pay Ibori back in his own coin. If we all observed clearly, we will notice that the attorney general was functioning and flexing muscle during this period.... The moral of this is that, don't look down on any man today, he might be your saviour tomorrow! wrong the moral of your story is that if Ibori were still around, he probably would have been one of the chief sponsors of APC against his enemy Jonathan while screaming CHANGE! |

irridemi: Hello Nairalanders, Please I need ur advise. Am currently 2months pregnant, and My husband is thinking of us relocating to Canada. I currently work in the bank while my husband is into Forex and Securities Trading Business. We were doing averagely okay until last year when business started shaking, my husband has lost a lot and now he is thinking of us relocating to Canada to start afresh. If I resign and we sell our properties, and the little savings we have should be enough to sponsor him for a Postgraduate Course (2years), while I follow him as his wife ( then I get a job), he wants this option cos am a professional and I have good work experience. Option 2 is for me to do a post graduate course and he accompanies me (mayb I will get a good job fast cos of my qualifications). if I wait till we have our baby, the expenses will be much(I.e the financial requirement for the visa). My hubby's uncle is ready to assist us, but my husband doesn't want to take the risk of investing in business again. He has Sasacheskwan or Toronto in mind. I will really appreciate advise thanks Option 1: He goes for his studies (and tries to find part time job) while you remain in Nigeria working and supporting him. Later, you take leave from your job, join your husband born your pikin for Canada Option 2: You take study leave in Nigeria and go to Canada to study while he he looks for work in Canada that does not require experience for the main time. As the man, it's better that he bears the work stress during uncertain times. Also remember that you go don born by the end of this year. How u wan take work with small pikin? Experience doesn't always count for all skill types when changing countries. Believe me, even Aig-imokhuede of Access bank might not be given a senior management position at a bank in Canada |

plaetton: ...So it's ok and perfectly normal for Paul, the founder of Christianity, to public recite ,verbatim , a popular poem in praise of Zeus, the foremost of the pagan Greek gods
So it would be s similarly ok for Pauline MOGs like Adeboye or Oyedepo to recite, in the pulpit, popular poems in praise of Yoruba gods? You don't see a problem with that?? OK. ... lol Plaetton by now u suppose know say we for this side get the way we they argue. U see the response wen dem give u If you asked me the question, I'd approach it this way You Plaetton try to imagine that a Christian God does exist ( I am confident he does, but that is not the point here) Now we as Christians have diverse ideas of what we think that he wants and how to go about satisfying it Someone that thinks/believes/knows that all God wants is to get people to a point were God can insert something in them -born again/new creation would have no qualms in going to a city, identifying what drives them (Zeus in this case) and then presenting the christian God to them as Zeus or Allah, Oghene etc When this has softened the peoples hearts, he might then start introducing them to the concept of God has he knows him and then gradually start pointing to the similarity in character, their books and mentions in their books that suggests God as he knows him Finally this evangelist will get them to a point were God can step in and make a new creation out of the people Another Christian that thinks/believes in God as a consuming fire who is interested in burning the erring in hell would dare not draw inferences between the Christian God and any other. So Plaetton, the kind of response you'll get from us is mixed and the kind of length we can go is diverse It depends on what we perceive of God's desire I've read a book by a Christian who while saying gambling was a sin says he felt lead to go and gamble he did and went about preaching to those he was gambling with, and they were able to accept him more easily ....call us crazy...na so we be |

@ scosco1:
Thanks for sharing this <<I have no strength or motivation to verify it, but it raises no suspicions, so I'll file it away for now>>
I don't think that it changes anything though ...at least for me. This is the way I would think through this: You rightly said that Paul quoted folks, and Paul confirms it by using these words:
Act 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said , For we are also his offspring. Tit 1:12 One of themselves even a prophet of their own , , said,......
I think that a more viable question you should ask is this: For Paul to quote literature that refers to Zeus when talking about God, did he consider Zeus and God to be one and same?
My answer would be for you to consider if Allah, Osanobua, Oghene and Yahweh are same.
It's not a smooth answer |

Folks I need some suggestions as regards the above for my two kids are aged 8 and 5.
I already have a routine nailed on reading and mental maths but I feel like I need to be doing something on the above. I just need ideas, I plan on buying a chessboard and teaching them both to play, other ideas welcome.
Before y'all label me an OTT parent , I just want them to get into the habit of thinking out of the box. Creativity, Critical thinking and thinking out of the box are different but related concepts that do cross paths sometimes. I'll assume that you're using the terms loosely to mean "smart". Now, to be smart with emphasis of thinking out of the box, the person requires 2 approaches for information processing 1) the ability to first think within the box 2) then the ability to think outside the box at will I'll explain with an example A 10 year old is lost in the cold wild and finds some pieces of dry wood thinking within the box he thinks "ok, I need fire to light this" he searches his pockets and sees no matches he then stretches his thinking within the box "if there is gathered dry wood here, then someone must have used matches here before" he searches around for matches and finds none his thinking starts hovering at the edges of the box as he remembers the movies he watched were folks lit fire with stones he attempts this and fails it is getting colder and his brain his working faster he has to now think out of the box "what I really need is to survive till I meet rescue or get rescued" however, it is late and I need some warmth. what materials are available to me for warmth?" Ahhhhh those little harmless animals moving around have warm blood and some skin, even the leaves can provide some warmth" he chases catches kills and douses himself in warm animal blood somehow he survives till morning XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX we can see from the example that what a child needs to be smart are: 1) a lot of diverse useful information that he can store and then call at will 2) teaching a child how to dissect information to its smallest bits -why, why, why,.. and how1, how2, and how3 |

frosbel: The bible is the word of God, truly inspired by him in all respects and aspects. My question is, which bible is the inspired word of God ? The bible is not the word of God Though we tend to say this, but it is actually not. that you call a baby an angel or your girlfriend your baby or chick doesn't mean that they are. She's not a chicken but a grown woman. that cute baby is no angel. he's got a pipi and has no wings. So likewise the bible is not the word of God it contains words from God, words from men, and words from demons too. After all, a demon in the bible, as Jesus was about to cast it out, said "we are legion for we are many" That was a demon, talking, and a man writing it down If the bible is indeed the word of God then we err in what we have For we then should have only the original patches in the original languages without all these verses. In that case also, we all should learn the original languages used in the scriptures and not add a jot or take away anything. but NO what we have are books where people try hard to bring together the original fragments and make it readable to all. The bible is a great book which if properly discerned helps us in our journey with Christ who is the Word of God |

Politics › Re: Boko Haram Carries Out First Attack On Niger Republic by esere826: 4:54pm On Feb 06, 2015 |
Litmus: Why would bokoharam attack Niger ask yourselves that? Bokoharam is supposedly being fought by Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon. In addition, AU wants to come to Nigeria and UN and France too and yet Bokoharam goes and attacks Niger, inviting more enemies. You think its arrogance, drugs, or like I've alll ways argued Bokoharam wants foreign forces on Nigerian soil.
Why would bokoharam want foreign forces in Nigeria?
My feeling is that the answer depends on the powers backing Bokoharam. If Bokoharam is a genuine wahibist franchise like Alkaida and ISIS funded initially or still so by powers like Saudi Arabia/Quarter then Bokoharam probably are at once seeking to illicit the sympathy of foreign fighters to come join thire Jihad and wanting to spread their Jihad through the West Africa region and in the processes linking up with Alkaida in the Maghreb.
However, if Bokoharam is receiving Western support, then Bokoharam's motive is to legitimate Foreign forces in Nigeria. I know that Nigerians find it difficult to imagine that when those forces do arrive that chiefs behind the scenes could be controlling both the slaughtering of Bokoharam terrorists while at the same time arming and recruiting more terrorists to join Bokoharm so that the fighting never ends in Nigeria. Gradually over time things will deteriorate in Nigeria and perhaps in the sub-region creating lucrative opportunity for all sorts of Nations and interests. Through back-channels, even as Bokoharam is being decimated, Bokoharam will have funds to recruit , terrorist from far-flung places will join them. We would have one vast lucrative war stretching right across West Africa to central Africa. And the potential of Nigeria will die with all this forever or until the Whites come and take control and bring peace, decades down the line. There'd be new lines drawn on the map of West Africa and the people that now make up Nigeria would no longer stand tall but would be like the rest of Africa, wringing our hands and being grateful to the white master and singing his praises and daring to do nothing without his approval. And his approval will never permit space travel because there are hungry mouths to feed first etc, etc You're assuming a lot you really think that these guys are experts in thinking and identifying the borders between the countries? |

Why critisize Jonathan's rail networks stupidly?
I have once commented about folks that castigate politicians who complete their predecessors projects as it not being their projects i think it is extremely stupid and one of the reasons why we have abandoned projects littering the whole place after all, why complete that road if the credit is given to the governor who simply graded the red earth and ate the rest money is given the credit
I have now noticed another dangerous dimension Folks criticize the good works that a few politicians have mustered the courage to do so, a governor tars roads that never existed during the regime of previous administrations and these critics cry out "is that not supposed to be a normal thing?"
a president gets our rail lines kicking to life from the doldrums were they once existed in and these critics cry out "Nonsense, why doesn't he provide trams and high speed trains"
in our more private life someone asks for help in paying school fees, and a good samaritan pays half the fees these critics bark out "Why take a man close to the stream and then stop him from drinking the water" |

Ever heard the story of the greedy dog and the bone It goes something like this.
The dog grabbed a bone and was on his jolly way home accross a bridge he looked at the water below and saw his reflection thinking it was another dog with a bone, it began to growl hoping that the other dog will let go of its bone and would have 2 bones well as it growled, its reflection growled too. It soon got upset. dropped its bone int the river and dived after its reflection hoping to get the othe bone

all's well that ends well I no contribute give Ikanium so I really do not have much moral authority to speak on this issue, but here is my explanation for IK's behaviour: ...that is assuming that the boy is only lying, and not a proper fraudster (I believe the former) When someone has no money and is surrounded by folks (close relatives) that have no money it is only natural that he would do what IK did. I know it hurts the donors a lot especially if they have lots of needs but chose to prioritize the needs of the receiver who might not even be a family member... but na so life be If you give a man in need, money for business, and he loves his son who has fallen into distress be rest assured that the money will go into taking care of the son If you're not rich, and you marry someone from a poor home, be rest assured that your spouse will use your meagre resources to try and uplift his/her family...na so life be (e even try sef,...some folks go even donate ya donation to dem give church and lie about it) Ikanium was only being human and of course he can't come here bold faced and say " I helped my mum" ..we are finite, and so no one wants extra liability. We most likely would have turned our backs on him so he naturally had to lie and you duty is to catch him and painfully but rightly point him that you are not God ...a hard brutal choice for him to accept The only silly thing I can accuse him of is trying to do importation and requesting funding for that instead of starting small with what you guys could gladly give to him ...IK you are close to the end of one journey were hopefully you would be in a better position to use your own resources for your loved ones you need all the goodwill you can muster to see this through... so thread cautiously and don't mess it up do the needful but painful and invest the resources of others on your academics above all. This is embarrassing, but you probably can get your brother to open an alternative NL account and ask for temporary funds for the family Thanks to everyone that has blessed this young man and those that have pointed out his folly ....cheers all |

joseph1832: If its bad misrepresentation or the fault of the copyist or interpreter like many of you said, won't all this put the whole Bible in 'skepticism'. I mean why misinterpret one verse when you can misinterpret the whole Bible?. I'll assume that this is not a rhetorical question, where the purpose is to pose a thought but does not require an answer So I'll rephrase your question again so that we can elicit an answer: Q) Won't our suggestions of mis-respresentation in one or two verses imply that the entire bible should be viewed with suspicion? A) On my own part, I think there are at least two sets of people when it comes to study. -The first set accepts anything that comes to them and build their knowledge base within this. -The 2nd set challenge assumptions, and look out for gaps. The goal is not to destroy the mineral being mined, but to chip at the rough edges and dirt until the diamond within glitters really good. As the 2nd set of studiers improve a body of knowledge, they pass it on to the 1st set who finally accept it as the defacto guide book. Every season, every age, scholars are busy working on the bible which they present in the form of versions such as NIV, KJV etc We are thus 2 different sets of people. The first which are in majority don't bother themselves with suspicions The 2nd which are a small minority are curious and suspicious of many things and seek to find answers. Some end up becoming atheists, others become a different breed of Christians from the mainstream. |
