pelezico:

Yep im getting totally shlacked by some folks here and have even been called a m.u.m.u. Thanks.

First things first i have no problem paying taxes afteral God commands every Christian to. However every tax payer is forced to pay for the mistakes of Government. I was not responsible for government borrowing, quantitative easing, micromanagement of the economy, lowering of interest rates, vexatious feudal policies etc etc. These things were partly responsible for crippling this economy. You work for your dues but what you earn is at the mercy of failed Keynesian economic policies that are stealing from your pocket every day. Since the gov does not create wealth you as the tax payer become the surety for their debt.

So please lets not go on about what you "think" the government is entitled to do. Every man has the right to own his property outright. This is being taken away. Enough of me schooling some folks here but please dont go on about the same old clichéd stuff about this being free and that being free. How long do you think health care will remain free in the UK. Not to long.

Most of my Nigerian friends are feeling the pinch and this "pinching" is something not even our parents who came here in the 60s endured.

But i take the rebuke well by some who have said that i should not complain. They are right. However my intention, God willing is to spy the land of giants (Nigeria) and see wha gwan and on the way change my vernacular some what
smiley smiley

grin

My vernacular is changing, even though I am Yorba but I like the proverbs/sayings that my Ibo people dey use.

Example, "na condition make crawfish bend" cheesy , "the pickin dem" grin

I have lived in London, UK, before relocating to the US. Electricity bill is expensive in the UK and the US as well, especially for people like us that live in MacMansion. The bottom line is live according to your pocket, but turning off light when you have visitors is just silly and insensitive. Few hours of visit will not break the bank.

I don't miss my 3,500 square feet McMansion in Texas, my summer electric bills was averaging $300 a month. I live in a 750 square foot apartment now in SoCal and the highest electric bill is $22 per month.

I was on a bike ride when I initially responded. I always like to backup with proof when I postulate online so here we go:

From Superior Court of California, Orange County. http://www.occourts.org/directory/family/dissolution.html

"What if my partner does not agree to a divorce?

Both persons do not have to agree to the divorce. One partner can’t force the other to stay in the relationship. Either partner can decide to end the marriage. The partner who does not want to get a divorce cannot stop the process by refusing to participate in the case. Non participation may lead to a default judgment, not to a dismissal of the divorce request. "

Not so.

Motion can be filed to compel her signature after due process. Assuming her refusal is baseless such as he's nit hiding assets yet to be discovered, as an example.

Marriage is not slavery, you don't need permission to divorce in the US.

So far I think I figured out that "Mumu" is like "Suegbe" used to mean.

So if someone said to me "You be mumu" then it's an insult, yes?

"Hari(a)m is a terroristic militant group. Not good to be a member I think.

What other current vernacular do I need to sabi?

I don't know but someone that has lived in the UK all his/her life just realising the tax system is a bit steep? undecided

Situations change.

For me I went through a divorce so instead of paying ~15% rate I am now paying ~35%. Additionally I was enjoying deductions for mortgage interest but no longer find it necessary to won anymore so I lost that deduction too.

I like this thread since I am also looking to come back home but at a part time basis so ease the transition.

Would really love to hear from others that have made the transition.

My dear, everything is a function of time. If you even give Nigerian police time, they can find out the make of the bomb. The also invited FBI because they know that FBI have been fighting terrorism since time immemorial and as such they have a lot of bomb signatures.

You can make good excuse for America but you don't see any need for what your country has done, unpatriotic.

Believe me or not, there is nothing wrong in FBI coming to investigate. What they want to find out is the country supplying arms to them through the makers of the bomb. After all Nigeria does not produce bullet let alone bombs

An astute observation. I tip my bowler hat to you.

And still, you don't see the difference between a US Police Department helping ANOTHER department and this? Or maybe I wasn't aware when the FBI became a department of the Nigeria Police Force.

I see no logistical difference but then I'm open minded.

I see an agency with more skills and resource assisting another.

And you don't seem to get it! They called the Russians simply because they DESIGNED the missiles. Calling them does not mean the Americans given time will not figure out how to deactivate them, but it's time wasting so better to call those who designed it in the first place. So how does this compare with a Police Station getting bombed and then calling the FBI to come help out? Have they ascertained that the bombs are made in America? Yes, true the FBI has more experience of course, but all the same it highlights how redundant our Police Force is - they can't even safe-guard their own station! I mean, how often have we heard of people running into Police Stations for safety only for the mob to drag them out of the Police Station and killed?

Oh, okay I think I get it now. If someone has a differing opinion then they must be insulted. Okay carry on.

Even in the US, police departments routinely assist each other based on expertise. But I understand the chest pounding nationalism.

logica:

Dude, use your head. Or maybe you are just so ignorant that it didn't occur to you that the reason Americans could need Russians was SIMPLY because the missiles were designed by the Russians. How then does this analogically fit with bringing the FBI to solve a crime inflicted on our redundant Police Force?

Not sure the need for insult on a conversation but using your analogy, since the Americans called on the Soviets assistance due to their expertise on certain missile, isn't it prudent to ask the Americans for help in solving a terroristic bomb attempt?

At the end if the day we need our own police/intelligence force to be up to speed but we are not there yet so outside help should be welcomed but monitored for ulterior motives.

Why can't you guys read between lines and see reasons beyond your mentality before reaching your judgement and making the poster appear silly?
He said he's "Ready To Help IMMIGRANTS To Nigeria" Or, does it mean that everyone going to Nigeria is definitely a Nigerian and coming HOME?
So, how does his intention concern you if you're a Nigerian yourself?

Good catch Vic, one thing I quickly realized on this forum is that the power of comprehension is sorely lacking with some posters.

Agreed. there is a backup Auxilliary power system that powers up the basic systems and hydraulics so that the pilot will be able to maneuver the plane to safety, but not to dump fuel. besides which pilot in his right mind will think of dumping fuel first in such an emergency? I still maintain the mumu comment.

and by the way, it was Captain Sullenberger, not Sullivan buddy. grin

I stand corrected, I should know better since I have an autographed copy of his book.
Travel / Re: Arik Aircraft In Near Mishap In Enugu by EuroMeko(m): 11:18pm On Jun 21, 2011
If you speak to long time Pilots you will find that many would prefer to fly older but still rigorously maintained aircraft versus new one if discussing emergency.

The older crafts are more forgiving, easier to operate since there is not much electronic. The newer aircrafts are just too complicated.

blackmann:

Mumu. U too read what you just typed and tell me if it makes any sense to you. If(and this is a rare occurence) a plane loses power to both engines, where will the power come from to dump fuel? Or do you think someone will siphon the aviation fuel with a hose?

Well to Mumus credit, Captain Sullivan, famous and heroic American Airline Aviator that landed in the Hudson river, did manage to extract his emergency power unit after loosing power to all engines, and able to get some electronic and hydraulic systems back.

why do we keep decieving ourselves! which one is FBI, the people you called has more issues to settle in their own land and we are calling them! how does it help? were nt they called on oct 1 bomb?  why are our leaders doing this to us! the money that will be paid to this guy can be used to solve so many things. even a blind knows the main suspect of this crime! the money can be use to sent some police men to intelligent schools or even all f them! or sent to more advance country to even know their left and right as a police! the investigation is simple! few days ago some people threaten that they will attack!! what about that?  few months ago a ship containing amunition was sent in to the country(i have searched through the net to find the end of that case but what do i find silly legislators threatening to sue the owners of the amunition to UN!) pls can somebody tell me where are those amunitions?
why are the government doing this to us! the worst is that we nigerians keep lieing to ourselves that it will be better but nothing is proving that!!! and it will never be well except  is a violent revolution happens!

The world has significantly shrunk and the old us versus them ploy can no longer be sustained. The idea is to maintain national pride and focus while getting results. There's nothing wrong with asking for help from someone with more experience.

I doubt the FBI is getting paid by the Nigerian government, after all when you see lightning you know thunder will soon follow. We have a common enemy.

Who knows maybe it's the US that can cut the head of the Nigerian Terrorist snake.

I do salute your nationalism but as they say in my language "Owo Omode Oto Pepe, Tagba Lagba Owo Akeregbe".
Politics / Re: Fbi Agents Arrive Abuja, Comb Police Headquarters by EuroMeko(m): 8:47pm On Jun 21, 2011
It is good that the FBI is involved.

First of all, "they have meat in the soup", any bombing these days from any region that unfortunately includes Nigeria will get investigated. I am sure that they are working in unison with our "otelemuye".

Secondly, they have quickly grown in the terms of forensic investigation and can quickly get scientific evidence. As someone stated above, they can get a lot of information from the bomb "fingerprints".

I do understand though the issues raised. We always should strive to work as collaborators and not subservient to them regardless of their superior and more developed developed investigative skills. That will be hard, I think.

So I called Atlanta and was told the mistake I made was sending it to Washington (that's the address on the form), so here we have two offices of the same government following different procedures - na wa for our country o!

crux84:

My brother was on that flight. both engines failed and the pilot had to dump fuel.

Hogwash, it's almost unheard of though not impossible for an airliner to loose power to both engines (a 747 lost power to all 4 engines when it flew through volcanic ash). Even if your Brothers flight lost power to all engines, the last thing on the Pilots mind is dumping fuel. They simply wouldn't have time to reach that part of the emergency checklist.
Travel / Nigerian Passport/visa Question For Us Folks by EuroMeko(m): 4:58am On Jun 21, 2011
Background, I have a valid US Passport and an expired Nigerian Passport issued new in 2005 and expired 2010. Trying to go home in 4 weeks.

I called the Atlanta Home Office and was told that my regular (none e) passport can be renewed and to send it in.

I sent it in but to the Washington DC address since that was the address on teh form that I downloaded.

I got the unrenewed Passport back in the mail with my money order (wasted $40 in shipping) with a note saying that they don't renew regular Passports anymore, even though; (1) I was told in Atlanta verbally that they do still renew regular Passports and (2) the website says they do.

What gives?

Should I have mailed to Atlanta?

I will call tomorrow and try to reach someone in Atlanta again.
