MASTAkiLLAh: Lets see if the powers that be will allow you shake their table.
Advent of gsm in Nigeria, MTN & Econet started at N50 per minute with various silly excuses, a third player owned by Mike Adenuga came on board and promised N10 per minute. They gave him a faulty spectrum capable of sending him through Nigeria’s lenghty and expensive judicial labyrinth for years. Baba had to pipe low. TSTV came along with pay per view and other goodies, shaking the table of DSTV. The company has been frustrated into silence and they'll only rear their ugly head when DSTV and Nigerian politicians allow them to come up for air.
There are many other instances but these two will let you know you cant just shake the table and introduce innovations without taking permission from those at the top About your first example, Mtn and Econet original charges started with about N80 and it later reduced to 60 naira when Nitel entered the GSM. The GLO you are talking about shook the table by starting per second billing. Something MTN had earlier said was impossible. I was surprised when they moved to per second billing otherwise they would have been history by now. About your second example, don't think it's over because from the look of things those guys(TSTV) have the support of the Nigerian Legislators. Anything can still happen. In the line of business, there is a lot of politics at play. |

NextD18: "The noise got too loud, but now the noise can stop"
That statement was deep coming from him. To even think he battled depression for 7 years while carrying out his daily activities makes me believe depression got no particular symptom to get people's attention to you.
You can look and appear like the happiest person alive in the public, social media or gathering, whereas you are mentally struggling and battling a lot.
You can battle it for 10 years without even knowing you are battling depression because you'll have to nurture your system on how to cope and endure overthinking, unrest and no peace of mind. All these will be endured without speaking to anyone because you've gotten use to it and feel it's normal until it hits you to the point you can't endure anymore which normally leads to suicidal thoughts.
Please learn to speak up when you start loosing your sanity and peace of mind. To add to what you wrote, I also have been battling with depression for some years until last year January when I attempted suicide. It was after the rescue that I was taken to the hospital and I knew that there is actually a drug for depression. I mean a real drug that stops you from being depressed and I think the drug will alter your mood because after taking it I felt better but after two weeks it started and I was administered another dosage. My point here is that many Nigerians don't know there is a drug for depression. They think when you are taken to the hospital you will be advised and spoken to. More like psychologically working on you. This is not true. I feel many people needs to know depression can be cured. And the economic situation in Nigeria, I'm wondering how we are even still sane here. |

No mind them. There are different plants we use in brushing our teeth in ancient Benin kingdom before the coming of potoki (whites). Even religion was not brought by whites. The people of Benin worshipped God before the coming of the white. We had a church which still exist today, Holy Arosa. It's the first church in Africa. Infact what will shock many people is that religion was started by blacks not white. Read your history people, ancient Egyptian were black men and they were the people that originated writing as a result of their trade with Arabs. |

Acjohn: An evidence that Buhari government is confused. Policy instability is one of the things that drives away investors. It was supposed to be time for Igbo man like innoson but because hr is not a northerner, let the policy be changed to disfavor him. What happened to the automotive policy of Nigeria?
As I dey like this now, I don't know where we are headed economically, NNPC have changed from oil producer to oil importer. Resources in the north is for the people that in the south is for the government, Ipob are terrorist while Fulani herdsmen and BH are misunderstood people that government needs to negotiate with.
I won't be surprised if its a northerner that was given a contract and had to lobby for this to be lifted so that he can make good gains, after that government will reverse the policy again.
God help us from this circular motion. This policy will not affect innoson negatively. Anyone in doubt should explain why they think this policy will affect IVM. Innoson does not manufacture second hand motors but new ones. How many people from other regions even patronise IVM? I can tell you if Innoson can produce a low budget cars for Nigerians, people will leave the tokunbor and buy his brand. IVM is competing with other world known brands in terms of price. How does he think he will succeed? Innoson needs to start thinking like the Chinese if he wants to dominate Nigeria not southeast |

Lush100: Sir
No sir, I was a student 16 years ago. Sir, do you think if people could afford that they would buy that Chinese generator. It is what it is. Most affordable of the lot considering Nigeria economic mishap. Robbers will Rob once there is no adequate security. Generator is just a means to an end. It could be anything else. Knock, throwing stone, running tap, faking someone in need, anything.
student studying at night to pass his exam has done nothing wrong by putting on his generator. If the area has adequate security, robbers will be put off. Sir, there are hospitals near homes, You will complain of their generator until your wife is in labor in the dead of the night, If they now ask you if they should on the generator, " you will think what kind of foolish question is that" Everything is about understanding not some blanket response to every issue.
Robbers have robbed where there is even light, not to talk of generator. Just say the noise is disturbing. By the way the new of that Chinese generator is very quiet "noisewise".
Good morning sir My God! You were a student 16years ago and you are sounding this naive? The reason we say generators are a security problem is not because switching it on can cause robbery but because of rescue time. Now I have a lot of examples to give and if you have been staying in Nigeria and you are not a kid you should have heard of what I'm about to say. For example your entire neighbourhood might be robbed and people in the vicinity will not know because the gen was on. When I was in Abraka in 2004, there was a students that was robbed, where the robbers just entered the room by kicking the door open and they started cutting the two guys with a cutlass, they were shouting but nobody heard and the vigilante were smoking in a nearby joint but didn't hear because a generator was switched on. You wouldn't want to know how they looked after the incident. In 2014, somewhere in upper sokponba in Benin city, around 4AM a man's car was being stolen. The thieves somehow gained entrance into the car and started it even though they don't have the keys. The owner claimed he suddenly heard the noise of the car and looked outside behold his car was being driven away. He shouted thief but no one even heard him and everything seemed normal because a generator was on. If everywhere was silent people would have been able to mobilise and track the guy at the junction. The noise of gen always make people loose guard. If every where is silent people will always know when something is not right |

If phcn was available will there be need for this. You guys are only seeking ur own good Robbers will Rob whether generator or not. Imagine I was doing my Master and I had exam on Saturday and I arrived work from.a different state to my family so I will not on the generator to read. If I fail the exam, will the landlord reduce my rent. It's all crap. You all talk like this because it not ur meal, If your "life depends on running generator in the night, I am sure your tune will change" From your countenance I see you are a student. To be frank, if my life depends on generator i will get a solar generator. There are a lot of cheap ones available e.g Lumos. Why should you be disturbing the peace of others just to satisfy yourself. That's selfish. And the issue of security is not rubbish. Its very real. It depends on the area you stay. It will be very bad if you decide to learn this lesson by experience |

Politics › Re: Nigerians Are The Problem Of Nigeria And Not The Government by gaddafe(m): 11:44am On Nov 15, 2020 |
wirinet: That's what I have been saying, Nigerians are the government.
No one is excusing the government or rather governments. What I am saying is that the problem with government is the same problem with our families, clans, tribes, states, churches, mosques, associations. There is no difference between our churches whereby the leader appropriate all donations for his personal use and government where the head appropriate our common wealth for his personal use.
Ordinary rice and noodles that various leaders of the society including traditional rulers were asked to distribute to the public was hoarded and you are blaming government. Government is not manned by spirits or aliens but by Nigerians.
That's what this post is about. It's about the lack of understanding of Nigerians of what leadership and responsibility entails. We cheat in all circumstances, even when we don't need to. I run some businesses and I have lost close to 500,000 this year's alone due to dishonest staff. Ask anyone running a business in Nigeria what his greatest problem is. He will tell you power, government and staff(both in terms of competency and trustworthyness)
There is a school of thought that believes that a people get the leaders they deserve. Don't you see the correlation between honest, dynamic and dedicated LEADERSHIP DEFICIT and honest, dynamic and dedicated FOLLOWERSHIP DEFICIT? I can't blame you for your point of view. However it appears from your argument that you don't know the essence of government. If I may ask you, why do you think we need govt in Nigeria? If you look at the history of Nigerians dating back to pre colonial times. We weren't corrupt. In fact in ancient Benin kingdom a market woman can leave her product and go home, only to come back and grab the money later. So how did we get here? I hope you know everything we practice today was introduced by the British, including corruption. So if government introduced corruption and you are claiming they cannot stop or eradicate it rather its the citizens who should check their ways. That amount to foolishness on your part to understand history and relate it to present day reality. |
