I don't think that this is the right section for this topic but to answer your question it depends on what you are going to do. If your looking to work on your own then I will recommend that you choose what is comfortable. But if you want to work for a business i recommend you learn autocad. Almost every architectural and engineering office uses autocad, Its become the standard. |

Why do people constantly glorify basic, unnecessary information. Is there some kind of competition on this site in which one tries to out do another? Biafra did not in any way build any aircraft nor was the Ogbunigwe anything spectacular, it was a glorified exhaust pipe. We all have computer so why don't people use them to get REAL information instead of the one written with sentiments. If anything your just making yourself look immature and bringing down biafra's name. BTW Nigeria does produce its own aircraft (trainer) called the air beetle. though we only assemble them from parts brought over from Oregon. |

The Fact remains that with nigeria's current system NO PART OF NIGERIA CAN STAND ALONE. even the Niger delta states have nothing, take away the oil and they will all collapse. The only places that may stand a chance is Lagos and possibly rivers, other than that every region in nigeria is worthless. You guys on nairaland always have draft arguments, in this case you are arguing who is the poorest of the poor, which in this case is the north. Pathetic, and some even try and associate themselves with the SS, why because their region is also worthless. |

Why do nigerians only focus on governors? Their are other arms and part of government that are responsible for development. You hardly see nigerians talking about their ministers, state assembly, LGAs leaders, etc. Is it because the federal governments acts like a state and the states act like LGAs and the LGAs do nothing at all? is that why nigeria has no town/city leaders or mayors? Since when did the state gov become responsible for building schools? since when was it the responsibility of the state to build fresh water pumps and drainage systems? isn't that the responsibility of the LGAs. and if I may ask what do nigeria's LGAs do? Thats only $6,391,822 USD monthly, $76,701,864 a year, this is a real shame on nigeria's part. Suffolk County (local government) in the united states has an operating budget of $2.7 billion (N422 Billion) a year. A local government area in the USA has a larger Budget than an entire Nigerian state why, because it collects it majority of its budget from taxes. I hate comparing but people have to realize the scope of trouble alot of states in nigeria are in. More states in nigeria need to start IGR schemes in order to boost their budgets and stop relying of federal allocations. In reality federal allocations are MEANT TO BE Bonuses for states and not their main source of revenue. I'm glad states are now realizing that they shouldn't just sit and wait for federal allocation, this is a good move by Kano. |

Its mainly because of the size of the Niger Delta which is just filled with large mangrove swamps and islands. As a matter of fact if you have google earth you can see that the "riverbed" at warri, port harcourt, onne and calabar port are relatively at sea level. There's no rail connection between Lagos and the east.But lagos is not the only deep sea port in Nigeria, as of right now port harcourt port has rail connections to the east and Onne port will also have rail connections to the east when rail rehabilitation on eastern corridor commences. |

redsun:Lagos is not the only city that has a deep sea port, you also have warri, port harcourt, Onne and calabar. If anything its warri, port harcourt, onne and calabar that will be affected not Lagos. But i don't think Onitsha port has the capability to make a dent in any economic system. Onitsha river port is alot smaller than the other ports in the nation due to the fact that its a River port which means it will carry alot less traffic. The river Niger CAN NOT carry cargo ships because its not deep enough even though it has been dredge. Most likely ferries or barges will be used to carry the cargo, which means the cargo ships will have to dock at lagos or onne and the goods will be transfered onto a ferry or barge which will then take it to onitsha. Add to the fact that Onitsha river port doesn't YET have any direct rail connections like Lagos, Warri, Port Harcourt or Onne (u/c) I don't think onitsha port will be taking away any economic activity nor decongesting any other port in the nation. the only thing the port will do is bring economic activity to onitsha and asaba.. You are from were you were born and/or grew up or currently live. Your roots is were your parents are from/their culture. Example if you were born and/or grew up or currently live in America but your parents are mexican you will be considered an American of Mexican descent. If you were born and/or grew upor currently live in lagos to igbo and hausa parents you will be considered a Lagosian of Igbo and hausa descent. atleast thats how it is in a normal world. |

Not to burst anyones bubble but onitsha is a river port not a deep sea port. It won't receive as much traffic as the ports in lagos and onne nor will it ease traffic. even if they complete renovating the RIVER port in october, the RIVER port will most likely receive 1 or 2 ships a week and not the 100 or so many envisioned because it a RIVER port. I'm saying this because many are over hyping this project the same way they over hyped the enugu airport renovation. Just look at the things people are saying in other threads about this project. In my opinion, just like the enugu airport, when this project is completed people will say that the government cheated them and they are being marginalized. Because the project did not live up to the hype that they themselves, people on nairaland, created. While in reality the government Never said nor claimed the project was going to be what the"hypist" envisioned. Its just a simple renovation of a river port, replacing old equipment and instruments with new ones nothing more. |

Instead of creating pointless states why not just move the boundaries of the Geo-political zones. we have 36 states and 6 Geo-political zone so 6 states should be in each zone. But instead we have these ediots calming they want another state in the already small & cramped south east. Obviously they are just in it for themselves so they can create pointless government positions for their brothers in the new state. Why arent they proposing to rearrange the already existing boundaries? Why not move cross rivers state to the south-east then move ondo state to the south-south then move kwara state to the south-west and then move kaduna to the north-central. Its simply and not hard but instead they are choosing and advocating for something as ridiculous as an extra state when we already have 36 states and 6 geopolitical zones. Or do these ediots believe that the south-east geopolitical zone equals igbos? Because it doesn't. Is that why they want to create an extra state instead of just moving the boundaries. Yea I know but I said that % to advocate a point that many states spend a large sum of their budgets on salaries. And the further more north you go the percentage increases, even some LGAs such as this one in plateau state spend 90% of their budget on salaries. 1 Like |

PhysicsQED: In a sane country everyone will be against state creation because it leads to less development.State creation is a balance between governing and sustainability hence why different countries of different sizes have different numbers of state/provinces such as Canada with 10 provinces and the USA with 50 states. Once this balance is made there is still room and ways to create more states but at what sacrifice will the new state have on its environment. To give you an example is long island New York, there was a movement to make Long island the 51th state in America. The reason why some long islanders wanted long island to become the 51th state is because they pay one of the highest taxes in America and they give more in taxes to New York state than they receive in development. so in Nigerian Lingo they were being "marginalized" If long island became a state it might have had the highest standard of living in America due to the fact that instead of a large portion of their high taxes being sent to NY state, those taxes would have stayed on long island and developed the area. But in reality many long islander are against the creation of long island state because it means New York state will be under funded which will lead to less development of new York state. It is this sense of "we as a people" that developed nations have that 3rd world countries lack. There could be 100 states in america but americans choose not to because it could mean their neighbor could be under funded and poor. |

THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO BENEFIT FROM STATE CREATION ARE POLITICIANS. Because in most states in nigeria about 70-80% of states budgets goes towards salaries. Leaving only 20-30% for actual development. Only Lagos state generates enough IGR for it to be sustainable and the other 35 states rely heavily on federal allocations. When will these ediots who call themselves Nigerians, who call themselves humans realize that states are NOT created based on ETHNICITY but rather are created based on VIABILITY. STOP CREATING THESE CANCERS, STOP CREATING THESE POINTLESS STATES AND STOP CREATING THESE EDIOTIC POLITICAL POSITIONS. I propose that we have 6 - 10 states. These states will be formed based on viability and not based on ethnicity. Since each state is based on viability each of the states will receive the same amount of allocations. And since each state was created based on viability it means each state will have significant amount of IGR. Each state can choose how many local government areas they want, but no state shall receive more allocation than the others because it has more LGAs. Its the states responsibility to decide how to split it budget between its LGAs. Large cities will receive direct additional funding from the federal government. Each state an/or local governments can generate their own power, infrastructure, police force or do anything they want as long as it benefits the masses. The federal government responsibilities will drastically be lowered and those responsibilities will be shared by the states. The amount of senators and representatives in the federal, state, and LGA will drastically decrease and the salaries of politicians shall also decrease dramatically. |

In my opinion and by definition if you as an INDIVIDUAL had lived in an area for a significant amount of time and you have adapted to the way of life in your new environment, you are considered an indigene. If you were born in Taraba state but now you live in lagos, as long as you have adapted to the hustle and bustle of lagos you can proudly call yourself a lagos indigene. |
