afam4eva:At one point in history, 1500s or so, bini people did occupy lagos and at that point they were and could be called the indigene/natives of lagos. But today, 2011, they dont occupy lagos anymore so in today's world they wont be called the indigene of Lagos. So today Igbos are the indigenes of Onitsha but it does not mean the will still be the indigenes in the future or in the past. |

Congrats, I'm not surprised since Akwa Ibom receives the 2nd highest allocations [per capital]. With good governance Akwa Ibom should be the first state to develop but in reality, Bayelsa should be the first  sadly it might be the last. |

For example the Chrysler Building in NY has 77 floors but stands at 1,050 ft high. while the bank of America tower in NY has 58 floors and stands at 1,200 ft high. |

the poster is just trying to say that Edo state has improved. Mind you that Adams osholome has only been in office for less than 3 years. He is not saying that edo state or benin city is fully develop. If you go to lagos or owerri you will still find bad roads and slums, but it doesn't mean the place hasn't improved, the governors in those area and in edo state are trying. |

Adams Oshomole is doing well, The only problem he has, like most state governors, are the contractors. They are either behind schedule on their construction project or rush the job. Luckily he has fired a couple of contractors already and will reward new contracts. link |

Imo and anambra states are going to start a bond or loan program eventually. If anambra state went into the bond market from day one their state fiscal budget will have doubled or possibly tripled. As long as they spend the borrowed money on projects that will bring financial returns such as infrastructure and not spend it on things that wont bring returns, Social welfare. IMO there is no reason why they` shouldn't borrow, as long as they don't waste the money. |

Kolababa:+1 IMO the federal government is not doing enough to help progressive states. When was the last time you heard of the federal government funding major capital projects in metropolitans. In reality they do give out federal grants but its literally chicken change compared to the scope of the projects. They should at least invest in the states that will actually benefit Nigeria. Like someone said, the feds should at least be involve in 50% of the projects in states like Lagos. USA Federal grant to NYC rail transit for a portion of the 2010 fiscal year. Does not include the other Billions in grants in other sectors such as roads, education etc. http://www.mta.info/mta/grant/ Why does Naija have to be different? |

Wont sending igbos back to their homeland be economic suicide. You act as if as soon as they move back they will get jobs and you act as if there is a surplus of job openings in igboland. Fact remains that Igboland has the same unemployment rate as the rest of the country. If they move back it will just create a large labor pool of unemployed workers. FYI that is not how jobs are create, heck, thats a very efficient was of losing jobs. You guys on NL need to stop thinking with sentiments and start thinking with common sense. We understand you are proudly igbo but this is becoming a joke. They chose were they currently live and work for a reason. To be truthful if Nigeria does divide it will be similar to what happened in Sudan. Basically it will divide along a north and a south, but nothing more. I seriously doubt there will be a 2nd biafra or an Odua nation etc because the south is to mix. You can find large amounts of igbos in lagos, Ijaws in benin city, Yorubas and igbos in port harcourt, edos in warri, Ibibios in enugu etc. Fact remains that the big cities in the south compose of a mix of ethnic groups so I highly doubt that they will be looking for a new "homogeneous state". Second, I also doubt that Nigeria will split based on colonial border. For all I know kaduna may be in southern Nigeria or ekiti may be in Northern Nigeria. Also people don't know what the middle belt will decide. But at the end of the day, I doubt Nigeria will split. The only way I can vision this happen is if the south physically attacks the north or the North physically attacks the south. In other words, civil war. @ topic, the south will obviously do better (oil) but I think the north will also do well and will bring out their true potential. 1 Like |

Introduce slavery Politicians can not earn a salary nor can he receive a checks gifts or make transactions while holding a political office. This includes ministers, senators, reps, governors, the president etc. This method will only bring out those who truly want to fix Nigeria and will get rid of those who want to just get rich. Food and temporary housing at motel 6 will be the only things provided. Just remember that they work for us. |

In my opinion Nigeria does need a one child policy or at least a policy base on if you can "Afford" your children. in the modern world it cost an average of $250,000 to take care of a child from birth to age 18. This includes only the basics such as food, clothes, medical, etc and does not include other expenses such as cars, college and education expenses etc. the average Nigerian doesn't have that kind of money. How will someone who earns less that a dollar a day, feed, cloth, educate 7 kids. On a dollar a day budge that can barely feed 1 person. Nigerians need to realize that they are the route cause to their social problems. They need to get rid of that mentality of the more kids I have the better the chances of one becoming successful. Nigerians need to focus on facts, have one child and raising him/her the proper way so that he can be successful in society instead of popping out babies hoping on of them will win the lottery. If you ask me I rather have 1 smart, well taking care of, fully feed, health child than 7 worthless parasites that leach on society collecting welfare. Why should a family who did the right things, had only 1 child and took care of that child, have to suffer by paying welfare for some who had 7 kids on a McDonald's budget. Why should society have to deal with the pains of beggars, the pains of the uneducated, the pains of the unemployed who can get a job because they have no education due to the fact that their parents cant afford them. And for those of you who are saying america this america that, america and the west has one of the lowest growth rates in the world because they are a rational society. They don't need someone to tell them the obvious / common sense thing to do. Thats why the average house hold in the USA has 1 to 2 children. Its only in 3rd world countries that you see high growth rates and thats mainly because those countries, like nigeria, are Irrational societies. They don't think with common sense nor do they care how they effect society. They only care about themselves and only themselves. And that needs to change. Wear a condom |

Some cool facts.- Lagos consumes over 60% of Nigeria's total energy. Also over 60% of Nigeria industrial and commercial establishments are based in Lagos.Basically for the same reasons why the New York metro has 4 seaports, lagos is an economic hub. The fact that tin can and snake island seaports are always full and overcrowd proves that lagos does need a new seaport. There are also sea ports in warri, port harcourt and calabar that are not crowd, but the fact the ships are coming to lagos means the majority of the goods are meant for lagos. in other words why ship your goods to calabar seaport just to waste money and have it driving over to lagos while you can just send it to lagos direct. |

Port harcourt sea port and onne seaport which is near completion. I know the lekki seaport is for the lekki free trade zone and the ogun sea port is for the ok free trade zone. but this is the first time i'm hearing one for badagry? |

In my opinion the core north (states that border Niger) will not see any development anytime soon. It will take decades and changes in social life before they start to see development or jobs.Weather you like it or not, the average northerner does not value education. I'm not saying every northerner, I'm saying the majority of northerners don't value education. Education is what drives job growth which leads to development and an educated society is what investors want and hence what creates jobs. In America you need a high school diploma or be enrolled in high school to get an entry level job at McDonalds, thats right, McDonalds. If you are not in high school nor have a high school diploma you won't even be eligible for a job at McDonalds. The main reason the south has a higher employment rate and a more active economy than the north is education. Alot more southerns attend school than northerns, which is why the southern parts of Nigeria is THE hot spot for investors, which leads to jobs and an increase in human development. Yes, the south is just as corrupt as the north but even with the corruption you can see that southerns live better than their northern counterpart. Instead of asking for more states why cant the other geo-political zones lose a state? Seriously, they want to add more states? why? So that the new states can suck on the nippl.e of the federal gov, asking for allocations, and reducing other states budget. So that this new states will be so small that it will have no source of internally Generated Revenue and will rely on the federal government for everything. So that this new states will spend over 80% of its budget on salaries and less than 20% on development. So that this new states will complain that it has no money for common minimum wage. So that this new states will then say they are being marginalized by the federal government, that's why they are not develop, but in reality the state was a failure form the start. So that this new states will then ask for more states to solve their problems because they are not develop, adding fuel to the fire. Which one is it? seriously, are Nigerians really that st.upid and I.diotic that they cannot comprehend simple math? the more states you create the more salaries you have to pay , which leads to less development. Nigerians need to get over this ethnocentric mentality of my region/my tribe and start to think with COMMON SENSE. What will 2 extra states do? will it put food on a table or build the broken down roads, No. It will just give an extra reason for corrupt politicians to get paid, simple. There is nothing these two new state can do that the 36 old states cann't. The only difference is more political salaries. Seriously, Does Nigeria really need any more pointless states? Apart from lagos and rivers state, no other state can survive with out the federal government assistance. They are all failure. Nigerians needs to rethink state creation by actually decreasing the number of state and getting rid of the geo-political zones. Basically lets redraw the state maps base of logic, economy viability and common sense, and not based on tribal or regional pride. |

Kx:In reality its only the U.S.A. and "smaller" nations like demark, france and iceland that are going green. The rest of the world are still building coal power plants. Russia, China, India, Brazil, mexico, South africa etc are still building coal power plants. As a matter of fact 77% of South Africa's energy needs are directly derived from coal and they are still constructing more coal power plants as we speak. Another fun fact is that south africa's largest power station, the Kendal (Coal) Power Station [4,110MW], Produces more electricity than the entire nation grid of Nigeria [3,600 peak]. Nigeria, Like the rest of the world need cheap energy. Why spend double, triple or even quadruple the price when you can get the same electricity cheap from coal. |

But you guys have to remember that 1/3 of nigeria's oil fields are found offshore in federal waters and about 3/4 of nigeria's Gas field are also found offshore in Federal waters. The Chinese are currently the cheapest builders and can probably build us a rail tunnel for around $100 million per mile in "perfect" soil conditions. But if you have hard bedrock like in New York City or soft swamp like soil like you have in Lagos it will probably cost around $ 2 Billion per mile. |
