FamilyWho's Sacrifice Was Greatest? by GL(op): 10:37am On May 07, 2007
imagine yourself in a very tight situation,u have a choice of

your mother: when she had u,u had a problem with your eyes, she donated her right eye so u can see d world, for a reason she called LOVE.

your sis: when u were a teenager, she wanted to please u by being there for u in a function in your secondary school,on the way she had an accident, now sits on a wheel chair, yet kisses u good morning, for a reason she called LOVE.

your husband/ wife: he/she donated the kidney u use now,for a reason he/she called LOVE.

your child: she came out of u, u lost your womb, and can't have another. he/she hugs u every morning saying, ''i love u so much mummy/daddy,and would never do a thing to hurt u''

u have an option of letting three live, one has to go.who's love or sacrifice do u think was so great, that he/she doesn't deserve death.

it's easier said than done,u can never watch your mother die,
u won't know d bond with ur siblings until they re no more.
now a man who gave u life again,
a child that looks u every morning in the eye and tells u from her innocent heart, she loves uhuh
FamilyFamily Tragedy by GL(op): 11:50pm On May 05, 2007
This is a true-life story of what happened to a family in Rivers State. It was related to me by a friend, who did a medical elective in the hospital where the family was being treated.

Armed robbers attacked a family of four: the parents, their son (a student in an American university, on holiday in Nigeria), and daughter (a secondary school student in Nigeria). They stripped the mother and told the boy to rape her, and to show him how he was to go about doing it, they raped his sister. The boy refused to rape his mom, so the robbers started to shoot the father from his leg upwards. The boy continued to refuse till his father was killed, then the robbers turned to his sister and started shooting at her legs. Around this point, the mother fainted. After a while, the robbers left the house and the mother and sister were rushed to the hospital. The mother had gone into a coma, and the sister's legs were paralyzed. The boy left the country the next day without visiting his mom and sister in the hospital. The hospital later tried to contact the boy to make him come and visit his family, but they found out that he didn't return to the school. The mother eventually died.

Who do you think went through more trauma, and why do you think so? do you think the boy's attitude was justified?
FamilyRe: Still Bearing Your Maiden Name After Marriage? by GL(f): 12:51am On Apr 06, 2007
initiate:
a woman retaining her maiden name is a bloody name dropper. if she has confidence in her ability to make something of her life why does she need to attache to the fathers name. we have people like puff daddy, will smith who even as guys adopted new names and made the new names popular. also we have women eg the nafdac woman who adopted the husbands name and made it even more well known than the man and everyone respects her.
look at iyabo obasanjo, all she has is her fathers name and no other achievement.
summary is this, a woman holding on to the fathers name, is a name dropper and under achiever and this should give a sign to the man that there is more underlying problems
don't you think that was too harsh? I mean, you are not the one to say if someone has achieved anything or not. Afterall, she is a medical doctor and that is not a small thing. If you have issues with women who hold on to their fathers' name, you should address it directly without attacking people.

btw, how about Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, do you mean she didn't achieve anything?
CultureRe: Isn't It A Shame When You Can't Speak Your Mother Tongue?! by GL(f): 1:05am On Apr 05, 2007
we should have language schools that offer crash courses in Nigerian languages. it's hard to learn your parents' languages at home if they are from different tribes because they'll very likely speak to each other in english or pidgin.
Christianity EtcRe: Video: T.B Joshua Raises A Man From The Dead by GL(f): 3:57am On Mar 09, 2007
ds video proves nothing at all.

21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 7:21-23
Christianity EtcRe: Pentecostalism And Christianity by GL(f): 3:28am On Mar 09, 2007
the main difference between pentecostals and other protestant churches is that pentecostals believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still around today and use them.

Thanks, Captn Obvious.

One could say the same about the differences between the Catholic Bible and King James.
the difference between the Catholic Bible and King James is the apocrypha, 7 or so extra books in the Catholic Old Testament. There really isnt any doctrinal difference. The Catholic and Protestant New Testaments are the same.

Christianity EtcRe: Which Is The True Church by GL(f): 10:07pm On Jan 02, 2007
the true Church is the entire Body of Christ; we are one body connected by our faith in Jesus. Even in the bible there were different churches in different locations and as we see in d letters to the churches in Revelations, each church had its own strenghts and weaknesses.
Christianity EtcRe: Christians And Alcohol by GL(f): 5:30am On Jan 02, 2007
In Psalm 104:15, the Psalmist blessed God for "wine that maketh glad the heart of man". Surely, he wouldnt thank God for it if he considered drinking wine a sin.
PoliticsRe: Census Results Out - More Males Than Females by GL(f): 7:31pm On Jan 01, 2007
i dont know about this census stuff,

i've noticed that it usually seems like ibos are the only ones who trade in some markets or that they have far higher population there
e.g. in alaba market, lawanson etc in lagos, whereas there are other tribes represented in these markets in large numbers.
Christianity EtcRe: Trousers And Scarflessness In Nigeria Churches by GL(f): 7:06pm On Dec 28, 2006
Akolawole:
My Sister why can't we leave the White out of this?

Good comments though.

Why are we not scarveless and trouzerful pre-1985?

Why?
i dont know about pre-1985, so i cant comment on that. i'm not suggesting we copy d whites, just saying dat d ppl who preach dat we shouldnt wear trousers are accepting these things from whites. so it looks like it is just a nigerian church doctrine.
CareerRe: Is It Advisable For A Fresh Graduate To Take A Job Of 5000 Naira Per Month? by GL(f): 2:32am On Dec 28, 2006
i wouldnt advise anyone to take a job of 5000 naira/month after at least 4 years in d university. i would rather sit down at home than go for that
Christianity EtcRe: The Poison Called Prosperity by GL(f): 2:22am On Dec 28, 2006
i once drank of this "poison" and, while in the process of being 'cured', was very much against its spread. now i think of it more as an opium than as a poison. we nigerians love to be optimistic and need something to fan this optimism. since the situation of the country isnt very encouraging, i guess most ppl find encouragement in the prosperity message of churches. it's like they desperately need it to be true and are willing it to be so. why else would someone believe that Jesus was rich on earth, when the bible records otherwise. it isnt just the pastors that are making prosperity preaching popular, church members also love to hear it. it's ok for now, but eventually when this stuff doesnt work for majority of the ppl and they get angry with God, these pastors would be held responsible.
Christianity EtcRe: Do You Believe in Ghosts? Have You Seen One? by GL(f): 1:59am On Dec 28, 2006

Christianity EtcRe: Trousers And Scarflessness In Nigeria Churches by GL(f): 1:53am On Dec 28, 2006
african/nigerian men would always grasp at anything that tends to subdue women. this is more annoying when women encourage this. as much as i agree that everything in the Old Testament remains true today, i wonder why there are many other OT issues that the Nigerian Church ignores. in any event, the NT says we dont have to keep the Jewish customary laws to be christians.

dat Deuteronomy passage doesnt stipulate which clothing belong to men and which belong to women. i believe what God was saying there is that He wants a clear distinction between men and women, in which case He was referring to transvestites. women's trousers are usually very feminine and as such are different from that of men.

also, i think d 1 Corinthians passage says something like women who pray/prophesy with their heads uncovered dishonour their heads i.e. their husbands. so, unmarried females are free.

i used to believe all these b4 until i noticed that churches that preached against trouser-wearing and scarflessness allowed white women to preach in trousers and with uncovered heads.
Christianity EtcRe: Can God Lead You To Someone You Don't Love In Marriage? by GL(f): 1:20am On Dec 28, 2006
i read a book by Rebecca Brown in which she said she didnt love her husband when he proposed to her but she married him because God said she should, and now she loves him.

i believe if God leads u to marry someone, d marriage is very likely to work. i dont see myself marrying someone i dont love tho. i think if God wants u to marry someone He would make u love d person first.

enugu:
By all means, it's great to marry someone who you already know and 'jell' with but let God be the ultimate 'decider'
i've heard/read stories of ppl who were very much in love getting divorced. so i guess in the long run it's best for God to be d ultimate decider.
Christianity EtcRe: Nigerian Churches And Noise Pollution by GL(f): 1:02am On Dec 28, 2006
I dont believe in noisy prayers, i prefer to talk to God quietly. However, we africans (or at least, Nigerians) are generally noisy so it isn't like it is a church thing. our parties are very noisy too.
Christianity EtcRe: What If God Calls You? by GL(f): 12:58am On Dec 28, 2006
i used to be very bothered about this before but i guess if God calls me He would see to it that all my needs are taken care of. i believe i would answer if God called me to be a pastor tho it wouldnt be an easy decision at all.

Christianity EtcRe: Is Tithing False Doctrine? by GL(f): 11:31pm On Dec 21, 2006
i think insisting on 10% is what is false doctrine. I think the New Testament urges us to give according to our hearts and pockets. thus, for some ppl God may expect more than 10% of their income and for others less. what matters the most tho is that we are giving for the right reasons and with cheerful hearts.
Christianity EtcRe: Christians And Alcohol by GL(f): 11:26pm On Dec 21, 2006
Personally, i believe the sin is drunkeness and not drinking wine/alcohol. i read in a study bible dt the wine Jesus and His disciples drank regularly wasn't fermented. i dont know about that. i think if one is prone to getting drunk it would be wiser to avoid alcohol altogether.
Christianity EtcRe: Jesus Wasn't Born On Christmas Day by GL(f): 11:19pm On Dec 21, 2006
i've heard also dat Jesus wasnt born on December 25. I think d date isn't the issue but that we make time to celebrate Him
Christianity EtcRe: Is December 25th The Day Of Christ's Birth? by GL(f): 11:15pm On Dec 21, 2006
i agree with u guys that we're losing the true meaning of christmas. yes, the date isn't so much a problem as the reason for the celebration. i remember reading an article once that described it as alienating the celebrant from his birthday party.
LiteratureRe: Tess Of The D'ubbervilles by GL(f): 10:56pm On Dec 21, 2006
i would choose Tess of the D'urbervilles over Robinson Crusoe anyday. i loved reading it tho i wish it wasnt so tragic.

Angel should have listened to Tess when she was trying to confess to him before the wedding, and he should have understood and forgiven her when she eventually did confess after the wedding.
