smuggled products can't be taxed truly but corruption within customs can be fought, I mean what was the sole aim of establishing customs, is it not to regulate importation and secure the national gates&ports against injection of contrabands? they are one of the most corrupt para-millitary forces. A myth even says 'a custom officer never spends his salary' Customs should be enforced to carry out the only job they have. Trustworthiness: m no
I love your thinking. But, how will you collect tax from smuggled goods? If you can't, then how will increase in tax or import duties affect them? |

Can someone analyze how the closure of borders will benefit me as an individual? Cos all I see is inflation and famine.
May I remind you the rationale for this very closure of borders? Its is almost solely to curb the issue of smuggling..... not just staple foods but everything....up from car spare parts down to your okirika clothes. We all know how exorbitant it is to clear container from the customs point due to high import duties and recalcitrant briberies. Now that aside!!
Closure of the bordering gates to curb smuggling analytically means all or most of the smuggled products come through those gates Now this should be the logic 1. smuggling is corruption (unarguable) 2. All smuggled commodities come through the border (very arguable) Closure of border will curb/reduce smuggling...........fine Mitigation of corruption at the borders will curb/reduce smuggling.........fine Since smuggling is a function of corruption in the borders (S=f(c)) Why not tackle corruption at the borders instead of subjecting the common man to more hardship without putting in place any form of ''shock-absorber'' When America wanted to boost their local steel production value that importation had almost crippled, you know what they did? they didnt even halt the importation, rather they lifted taxes on the local ores and placed huge taxes on the imported. Diplomatically, the market tilted to the side of the local steel production. Now this is how policies from informed set of parliaments look like. I have always said this, until Nigeria starts to run the government&police like a corporate organisation(bottom-up approach), where KPIs(key performance indicators) are reviewed, operations externally audited with impending sanctions for code of conducts breachers, only then the government can function. You've been shouting farming, need I remind you that locally made rice as a case study is always double the price of the imported. Now the imported has been banned, you think the prices of local rice would go down? Check your law of supply!!! Anyways thanks God fake/non-durable aba made clothings will be glorified atlast cos nobody go fit afford the original which import duties go don almost choke to death. So poor rats will be poorer cos aba made will now be more expensive once the demand increases.
Government did the right thing for sure but it was poorly strategized and for the wrong cause!!! Anyways, Orun nyabo, kon shoro enikan (IF sky dey fall, na all of us head e go knack) Body go teh u!! |

You have spoken well MarkGud: Hello Guys, trust our plans are progressing as anticipated. 2 weeks now in DE, kinda got busy with enrol and various registration. Life over here have been different i must say; culture shocks here and there and everyone minds his/her business.
I was recently at a programme in Dresden by Intap tagged #International talents wanted and i must say there are opportunities in DE most esp. for Software developers/engineering/ICT as most companies representative spoke on these set skills. Germans take time keeping seriously as I missed a train just a min late first day i arrived. Studying here is flexible atleast say in my Uni as one can decide to take more or less than the expected modules, make sure you distinguish which modules are core, update, elective etc and certain credit points must be completed in each of them before u can graduate. As soon as you arrive make u enrol or Deutsch A1 classes as there is a deadline to it as one can easily miss it amidst the struggles to do some other registrations e.g city reg, house contract etc and take this class seriously as the lang is as important as the degree you pursuing(if possible learn up to B1 in Naija before arriving DE). Ahead of lecture resumptions get your time table, seek clarifications wella oo cos here in DE, lecture weeks are divided into Odd and even week, take classes serious and pray all fall into plan. Dont be carried away with making too many friends most esp if they dont share your dreams and aspirations, plan well and dont be in a hurry to announce yourself thereby sacrificing your whole struggle for the smaller glory. I hope things work out well for everyone and be a good ambassador in DE(una know how our story be already for abroad). I pray more of us arrive DE because the number Indians, Egyptians, Cameroonians, Mozambiques wey i dey see here for my side make me ask how do they do it. And fortunately for them, they graduate and get good jobs and you know what that means back home for them. One day one day timid cub will become a roaring lion, let's keep pushing.
I hope my little piece is useful to someone. I will keep updating from time to time. |

Sorry about this!! it hurts I know Take this as a piece of advice from your hubby's perception I had done this a few times to my gf before I realised it myself that it was childish , Some people always need to be left alone to heal when hurt or to cool off when angry...depends on whichever way they feel at that moment., hence, they might want you to leave or they leave themselves. Find a way to show your displeasure probably by talking to him, let him know its humiliating to you and selfdisrespecting to him. Then envelope your words with a subtle threat, that you will never come back when next that happens. And when next he says 'leave', tell him 'Coman carry me', see na werey dey do this marriage of a thing o...you go show small werey too. I'm sure he will stop if he values you!! Trust me deep down he never wanted you to leave in any of those quarrels, na ego to say oya come back dey disturb am. Zhuhilat: It is very easy to say stay, work on it, watch war room. Nobody knows how it feels LITERALLY. . It is well.
Thanks for the Advice or constructive criticism, I appreciate. |
