frosbel: One bright afternoon in Lagos at about 1pm after a hot tiring day , I drifted into a deep sleep.

And I had a dream........................

I remember being outside playing either football or some other game. Gradually the clouds became grey , the light of the sun was dimmed and there were indications of coming rain.


We continued playing but then the clouds went darker grey which indicated not just rain but heavy rain , with the usual thunder and lightening.

Suddenly the clouds went from very dark grey to pitch black, the light of the sun obviously had been cut out totally.

Now at 13-14 years of age this was a total shock and mighty scare because dark clouds preceding heavy rain with lightening was usual , but pitch blackness at about 1pm in the afternoon was strange to say the least.

While I was musing on this strange phenomenon, a voice spoke to me and commanded I look behind me,whereupon I saw an uncountable multitude of people fleeing in all directions, some running north , others south and in no particular direction. They all seemed to be running away from some danger which was not immediately obvious to me at the time.

Suddenly , the same voice asked me to turn around and look , then I saw tables stretched endlessly and arrayed in white cloth as prepared for a banquet . Behind tables were mighty angels with trumpets to their mouths ready to blow.

Without warning, they blew a very loud noise in unison toward the heavens and the same voice for the last time asked me to look at the sky.

As I looked towards the sky, I saw chariots of fire descending with a mighty host , I could not really see who was in one of the main chariots as it was bright and almost ablaze with fire.

Horror filled my heart and I exclaimed my lost condition. Waking up from sleep and with deep fear and profuse sweating , I fled the room and thanked GOD the world had not yet ended .

By the time I had this dream I did not know JESUS.

I have only narrated what I can remember , it has been quite a long time and the facts might be slightly vague to me now.

I hope you didn't watch ""evil dead"" a day before that dream......lol....

As an ijaw boy if I decide to give thanks or pray to God privately or within my heart(un-uttered) in the ijaw language I am indeed edifying myself....and that means no one should even see me when I pray or even if they do my prayers should be made quietly ......because just as Jesus did and said,I'll go into somewhwere quiet and private to pray.....

But when I get to the church and speak in a tongue(ijaw),to a non-ijaw speaking audience I must have an interpreter so that the congregation will be edified......if not I §hould just keep my mouth shu

What I have observed today is that everybody in a church speaks in tongues simultaneously and noisily and not even one person gets edified,rather they all return back home with headache .........in a church where everybody understands english,what is the need for the pastor to speak in an unknown tongue??is it necessarÝ??would that nt be madness??like paul said in verses 6-10,he'll infact be speaking into the air thereby accomplishing nothing.........

Ofcus the reason why I know many speak rubbish today is because they will still shout with microphones when claiming to speak in tongues in the church.....and guess what no interpreters becausÉ everybody just chants.......

Lord_Reed: I think you should look at I Cor.14 again and see what the purpose of tongues are. It is for edification of the speaker not the hearer. The fact that it is unknown doesn't negate it's usefulness neither has anything indicated that it is no longer relevant for the believer today.

My life has been altered irrevocably for good by the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of unknown tongues. That is the good it has done.

O and yes I have used it to help others (not to their hearing) in private prayers.

Its like you didn't peruse 1 corinthians 13 to see that tongues would cease after it has served its purpose.....

The apostles kÑew in part back then,...the fledgling church needed these various gifts, to make sure it was firmly grounded.....the scriptures too was still under writing....they needed to speak in tongues to spread the kingdom news from Jerusalem to all parts of the earth......

How else could a small group of jewish christians preach to various persons of other tribes and nationalities if not for the help of that gift of speaking in tongues....??.....how could persons who only knew the Jewish language speak to arabians,africans etc??...they needed to speak in tongues...

Paul knew those gifts were temporary not permanent........that is why the evidence is all over the place that people just blab over words thinking they are speaking in tongues....its obvious that what we hear today is gibberish....

@ verse 13 paul writes down what will remain when those gifts are done away with or ceased after it has fulfilled its purpose....paul says LOVE or CHArity is what will remain.........

obadiah777: let me break it down, but not without scriptures so as not to inundate it with verses. the spirit is eternal. the body is not. you are in the spirit world. when its time to come on earth the lord puts the spirit in a new born baby. you live in that body till you die. when you die you return to God in the spiritual world to rest. after you rest you are deployed back to earth again in another body as a new born. you live with that body. then you die and the spirit goes to rest again in the spirit world etc etc etc. and thats it plain and simple. spirit is eternal. body is temporal.
