Logicboy03: Even more ignorance!

Human beings have progressed because of smarter people and advances in science. Higher life expectancy, faster transport etc

Today, Jesus wouldnt ride on a donkey, he would drive in with a Benz.

However, dumbazzes like yourself have slowed us down. Instead of using condoms, we now have numerous bastardz that overpopulate Nigeria. Thanksvto your abti contraceptive preaching and anti -abortion nonsense. When last diid you drive in Lagos without traffic jam in the afternoon?

Foolish religious people like you love to be ignorantand hate science. Sorry, bu the world has progressed as we have become smarter. We have many methods of communicating with loved ones around the world. We have monietary systems both with cash and cashless sytesms rather than trade by barter.

Only a fool will claimbthat being smarter has not given us pogress in the world
your post deserves a plaque, your progress is very visible. i have other things to do with my time.

onetrack: Wrong. Health care is much better than 100 years ago, even if it hasn't reached all corners of the world. People making it to 80 years old is now the norm (and most of them still have their teeth!). Infant mortality has been drastically reduced!!

The number of people exposed to the direct effects of war is now at an all-time low as a percentage of the world population, even if the news channels make it seem as though the world is engulfed in war. In other words, this decade has been the most peaceful in recorded history.

Sin, happiness, and sorrow are all, unfortunately, subjective and cannot really be measured as such. And as long as there are human beings these will all exist in large amounts.
WHAT!! How did you manage to lie so blatantly? This decade, when do we start the decade count from? Healthcare has not helped us live longer than our ancestors. The number of people expsed to the direct effects of war? What about the flks exposed to the wars, riots, fightings and unrest themselves. What do you use measure these exposures t direct effect of war? Are the news channels making up stories or do you think the oyo kingdom suffered from hitler's war? Sin, happiness, sickness, sorrow are all essentials to every human being and not things to just wave aside and speak big grammar and charts that we are making progress.

A smarter world is a better world. Why?
1)Smart people would never cause you harm just because of your belief.
2)Smart people are always organised
3)Smart people solve their problems using their brains instead of waiting on some igod to help them.
and so on...
i kid you not. Smartness, while good and to be encouraged, has failed us. It is not the saviour we are looking for. We cannot depend on i for a beter world as we see reality

Kai....I would prefer to sleep in hell than to stay in the same heaven with you and your christian ‘anti-intellectualism’

How can a sane human being calim that we dont need a smarter world? He even indirectly says that a smrter world is not a better world?!!

Is it paining you that scientists in developed countries are atheists or tht microsoft, sony, nairaland, facebook are onwned and run by atheists?

Guy, a smarter world will make better decisions for the planet. Get some sense
i wasn't hoping that i would have to respond to your yadayada knowing your unwillingness to think clearly. The fact remains that the wrld has been progressing in knowledge and smartness but it clearly has not made things better. It has not increased happiness, or joy or satisfaction. It has not made the average lifespan longer. It has done nothing to improve world peace or reduce crime. Sin , hate, violence, sorrow and disappointment still reigns in the lives of the people.

Guys we do not need a smarter world, what we need is a better world There is no amount of education and atheism than can produce a better world . God is the only hope of a better world. He is the hope of glory. New phones, codes, gadgets and ideas cannot do it, they continue to disappoint ukltimately. Many here have greatly erred, not knowing the scriptures and the power of God.

Uyi Iredia: You equivocate by holding love to mean not to kill which, I repeat, isn't explicitly stated: the Israelites killed themselves like when Moses killed some of the golden calf worshippers on coming down from Mount Sinai.
It's unfair to say that i'm equivocating. Loving others as oneself is clearly an expression that you are not going to murder the person. The New Testament clearly and copiously teaches love, gentleness, patience with others and forbearance, forgiving others. This is opposed to what generally obtained in the Old Testament times.
Col 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
Col 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Col 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Col 3:14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

The Israelites didn't kill themselves and go free. They had a "Thou shall not kill" law that they had to obey. This however should not be confused with judgement, which their judges were empowered to do. If they had any issue or quarrel, they were not to kill one another. They took their cases to their judges, who then determined the punishment/settlement according to their law. Moses was a Judge and their law stated that idolatry was punishable by death. This is different from personal grudge or vendetta. moses never fought for himself. We have two cases recorded where God was said to have fought for him instead. Let's endeavour to rightly divide the scriptures.

But Agag didn't do anything wrong! And Samuel had said the rationale for the extermination of Amalekites was the fact the Amlekites in previous generations had attacked the Israelites in the desert when they were helpless!
We do not read the Bible selectively. Yes, God had an issue with the Amalekites especially about their attack against Israel in the wilderness. But the Bible which explains and describes the character of God has shown us clearly God's rationale of judgement. If the present generation of Amalakites were godly, they would NOT have been punished. Here is a passage that clearly teaches this, i'd encourage that you read the whole chapter in your favorite translation.
Eze 18:5 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,
Eze 18:10 If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,
Eze 18:13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.

The above passage teaches that if a righteous person has an unrighteous child/descendant, the unrighteous descendant will be punished.

Eze 18:14 Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,
Eze 18:17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

This passage teaches that if a unrighteous person has an righteous child/descendant, the righteous descendant will NOT be punished.

Did Agag and his people sin? Yes. The same chapter said that they were sinners and that Agag was being punished the same way he had done to others. Please endeavour to read the complete chapter so as to have the full facts, thanks.
1Sa 15:18 And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the SINNERS the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.

GRACE IS ENOUGH

I can boast to many works
Done out of insecurity
And credit many conversations
To my immaturity
And while I’m misunderstood
You are understanding me
And showing me
How grace is enough
For everything that I’ve done right
Seems like a thousand I’ve done wrong
And I keep on losing count
Of all the times my flesh has won
And when the light of Christ that’s in me
Is overshadowed by the fall
You’re showing me
How grace is enough
When I feel unworthy
And so undeserving

[Chorus:]
Still I can come, just as I am
For I find Your love
Is free of condition
So I will run to Your wide open arms
Where I am accepted
And I am forgiven
Grace is enough for me
Your grace is enough for me
I’ve been quick at passing judgment
When I’m worthy of conviction
And the times I’ve measured virtue
Only based on my religion
But theology it seems
It’s not the things that’s saving me
Your are showing me
A grace that’s enough
When I feel unworthy
And so undeserving
[Chorus]
[Bridge:]
Though I was blind, now I see
Sweet is the sound
Of Your grace over me
You said it all on the Cross
Your grace goes beyond
All that I’ve done
When I feel unworthy
And so undeserving
You love me beyond
All my failing and hurting
It’s not who I am
But who I can be
And I know You are working
Your purpose in me
[Chorus]
Your grace is enough
More than enough
Your grace is enough for me

Christianity Etc › Re: Miracle By The Apostles Vs. Miracle By Today's Pastors And G.os by Image123(m): 11:52pm On Aug 27, 2013
Just to add one or two observations to your thread view. i agree with most part BTW.

alexleo: Brethren lets look at at the attitude of the apostles when God used them to perform miracle and compare it with what it is today among our pastors and G.Os.

Acts 3:11.

11 Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed. 12 So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?

Acts 14:14

14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their clothes and ran in among the multitude, crying out 15 and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them,

From this two passages we saw the apostles resisting any attempt to be idolized by the people for the miracles they performed. Peter and John rebuked the crowd not to look at them as powerful men, Paul and Barnabas tore their clothes and jumped into the crowd telling them that they were human beings just like them.
Agreed and exemplary.

What do we see among pastors today in their miracle parade or charade?
Someway, you have managed either knowing or unknowingly to lump all the pastors under the same category.

1. They enjoy being idolized and being regarded as powerful men of God, while the apostles rebuked and rejected any form of idolization totally.
Any proof to show this 'enjoyment' accusation, especially for true and devoted men of God? If you are not talking of true and devoted ones doing this, well the thread may then be pointless. There were also such people in Bible days like Simon the sorcerer.

2. Today's pastors make a show in the name of miracle service by showing it on Tv, web and in crusades where crowd will gather and watch them as they conduct the so called miracle. Each miracle attracts a thunderous applause from the crowd while the pastors face beams with smiles, walking or running from one end of the altar to the other as part of the showmanship. The apostles did theirs silently and resisted any form of applause or glorification.
Nothing wrong in showing miracles on wherever. Jesus' acts and life was also noised abroad. The disciples wrote of them and of Acts of God through they themselves even decades after they were done. Most of the churches then were aware of these signs and wonders, and they were a powerful way of bringing pople to Christ. God's gifts are that men may see and glorify Him. They are not done in a corner.
Act 26:26 For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner.

3. Today's pastors feel highly powerful and untouchable. After the miracle service their myriads of security men surrounds them as they majestically walk out of the venue while the helpless congregation look with such desires to touch even the hem of pastor's suit. The apostles rented their clothes and jumped into the crowd who felt they were gods, telling them they were just mere mortals like them.
Ever heard of crowd control and stampedes? Wisdom is profitable to direct. Anyone that is popular needs some form of security. Ask Martin Luther Jr. He was murdered. Anyone can want to kill you, stab you, hug you, etc. Jesus had to disappear a couple of times, a skill our dear pastors do not possess.

4. Today's pastor collects thanksgiving offering for miracles. Infact they will preach you into doing it even if you dont feel like. The apostles never did such a nonsense.
With you.

5. Today's pastors preach miracle as if thats the only and major thing in the bible. Miracle preaching takes a greater percentage of their sermon. In their crusade billboards and adverts they show a picture of wheel chairs and cover the whole billboard with deliverance from this and that. The apostles preached only Jesus and his kingdom. At no time did we see miracle being their sermon, yet they healed people.
With you to a large degree. Nothing wrong with publicizing what God has done BTW. Jesus told the mad man to go and tell people what God had done for him.

6.The apostles and even Jesus healed people on the streets, pool side, temple gate and anywhere but today's pastor must heal mostly in the church or crusade ground where offerings could be collected and the media department of the church will be able to capture the show so as to send it on Television for showmanship in order to attract more worshipers which translates to more money for pastor and his church(personal estate).
Healing and miracles take place anywhere. Some of these pastors go to different countries and venues and God still does miracles. Some miracles are even without the minister's knowlegde until the testifier comes up.

7. When the apostles healed, they pointed the people to Jesus but today's pastor heals and points the people he healed to himself and his church.
The disciples urged new converts to continue with them in Jesus.

Now why cant this men of God in all their power and majesty move round the streets of Nigeria like Jesus and the apostles and heal the madmen and the handicapped scattered everywhere?
They do not have the power, God does. Why didn't Jesus and His disciples follow your advice? Why didn't Jesus heal the man at the beautiful gate of the temple. the man had been sitting there all the while. Why did it have to be Peter and John. Why did jesus heal just one person at the pool of Siloam, where many sick folk gathered to be healed?

All these are happening among some of our pastors today because of greed and desire for fame. Did John the baptist not say that Jesus will increase while he decreases? But today's pastor is working so hard to increase while Jesus decreases. This is bad. People should open their eyes and resist this show of shame in Christendom . we have not learned so of Christ. God bless you.
With you. i support most of what you have said. Just needed that we get the facts right, and preach the complee truth and picture. god bless you.

thehomer: Okay assume I don't know what the purpose of the flood was. Can you tell me what the purpose of the flood was?
there is no need to assume here thomer, you do not know. you have pitifully failed to show or establish any reason for your baseless assumption. It is stating the obvious to tell you it is a strawman fallacy that you threw up. i'd rather avoid the fallacy banding seeing it's your nature. Here is what God stated about the flood. NOWHERE did He state that He was sending a flood to wipe away evil.
Gen 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
Gen 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Gen 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Gen 6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

NO PLACE did He state that He would destroy evil, you are imagining things and being true to your fallacious nature. i already told you the purpose of the flood, seemed you selectively read me and skipped it. Again, it was to punish/judge the people by destroying them.

God wasn't just punishing criminals, he was also punishing the 2 year old child who had nothing to do with the crime. Notice too that locking criminals in jails is to make the society safer. God killing everyone wasn't to make society safer. So what was his reason?
There goes another strawman. nobody mentioned making the society safer except you.

Saying that God is goodness means that God isn't an actual entity that exists but is an abstract concept like numbers. i.e it is no better than saying God is what "Redness" is or God is what "Fiveness" is.
So goodness is like redness and fiveness? Interesting. Are these also moral concepts in your world? God is whatgood is, there is nothing good outside God. That is the fact that you may need a lifetime to wrap your head around.
Jam 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Well the purpose you've stated here has nothing to do with morality so you may want to pick another purpose. After all, Charles Taylor using child soldiers doesn't stop man from having dominion.
You were talking about a murderer being an altruist, remember? That does not fulfill God's purpose of creating man/babies. Simples. Dominion is not used here in the sense of oppression or force but in the sense of mastery of the earth and every other created thing. Glorifying God includes living a holy life of victory, this a baby cannot do.

Once again, you've ignored something clear and direct. How does being able to give one's child one's shoes mean that you can kill their 6 month old baby if they kill someone else?
Being able to give one's child one's shoes is just a minimal part of what inheriting implies. Inheriting also deals with heredity of health and ill health, character traits, and of a life. Your willingness to have a next of kin shows off that you approve of others being rewarded for what you have done incase you die. God does it for all and sundry. You can get your parents good looks or bad looks, thir propensity for certain height and weight or blood or disease. If you live healthy, your child reaps from it, and vice versa. Also if you work hard or lazily, your child reaps from it. If you live a good life and name, your child reaps from it and vice versa. That is how God has permitted nature and reality to be. If you think that is unfair, sorry i do not. Because even at the end of the day, we still get to make ourselves to an extent. A poor man's kid can still become rich and so on and so forth.

Did they commit the crimes? Once again, you've decided to run from the direct question. Call it pity age or whatever you like but simply answer the question. So can you tell me what the 6 month old child has done that it deserves to be killed? I'm using 6 month old to make the reasoning easier for you to respond to.
Yep,they committed the crimes as i have shown you from 1Samuel, Ezekiel and other passages.
1Sa 15:32 Then said Samuel, Bring you here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
1Sa 15:33 Samuel said, As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women. Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before Yahweh in Gilgal.

On a sidenote, i want to ask, do you think they should have killed the old and left the 6month olds? 6 month olds somehow get to survive on their own? Or you think they should have adopted them, or what? Give me your goody options. Can you tell me what anyone baby has done wrong to be born in a place like Nigeria(or wherever else you think unpleasant) when he could be born in America(or wherever else you think okay)? Why does anyone has to be born into a poor home or debt or disease stricken home? Are they going to be immune from the evil and suffering their parents are undergoing? Should 'bad' people and folks who cannot take care of children be barren? Are there some set of people who you feel have to right to give birth? i'm almost certain you will skip these questions ALSO.

The quotes don't say that God will never again order genocide.
God has never ordered genocide, not to talk of ordering it again, duh. Genocide is murder and genocide is a crime.
The quotes show us that one, God spoke through His prophets like Moses and Samuel. Of course you agree to that, else we should be arguing Moses or Samuel killing Amalekites instead of God. At our own time, God has spoken through Jesus.
Heb 1:1 God who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

His Son has said among other things, love everyone, including enemies. To pray for them, to be pitiful, to be courteous, to honour all men. He has told us that we are all one in Him and that there is no Jew or Gentile discrimination again, that He has broken the middle wall of partition, and died for us when we were enemies. He does not want anyone to perish but has offered humanity a new agreement/covenant.
The bolded are all things found in the Bible, which you have read and know that Jesus has said either directly or through His disciples. Based on this, it is ascertained what God has told us about such actions. The whole of Matthew 5 always make a good read anyday.
Mat 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
Mat 5:45 that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.

What you're saying amounts to might makes right. You seem to be saying that since the judge can do what others cannot do, therefore what he does is right. Well, guess what? I disagree with that notion. The fact that Abacha could order someone to be killed while others couldn't doesn't mean his order is right.

If God is a person then I have a right to judge him whether or not he is more powerful than I am.
i've simply shown you that what a judge does cannot be done by every other person. People cannot just take laws into their hands or work jungle justice. You cannot assault, harm or kill a convict simply because a judge can. You cannot go and kill people simply because God can. How you refuse to see this plain view point is amazing (thank God for the Bible that gave me prior tips)
Christianity Etc › Re: In What Way Is God Good? Inviting Mr Anony And Any Intersted Party by Image123(m): 10:32pm On Aug 27, 2013
Kay 17: The present generation of Amalekites were held accountable for the sins of their fathers, the attack against the Israelites in the desert. My contention is the wrongdoer or doers is absent! Hence the purpose of justice is defeated.
Nope, not only for the sins of their fathers but for their own sins too.
1Sa 15:32 And Samuel said, Bring near to me Agag the king of Amalek. And Agag came to him cheerfully. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death has passed.
1Sa 15:33 And Samuel said, As your sword has bereaved women of children, so shall your mother be bereft among women. And Samuel cut Agag in pieces before Jehovah in Gilgal.

Whatever a man sows is what he reaps. God tells us of His principle of judgement already i have shown.

Eze 18:5 But a man that is righteous and does what is just and right,
Eze 18:10 And if he fathers a violent son, who sheds blood and does to a brother any of these;
Eze 18:13 he has given on interest and has taken increase; shall he also live? He shall not live. He has done all these abominations; dying he shall die; his blood shall be on him.

ALSO,
Eze 18:14 Now, behold! If he fathers a son who sees all his father's sins which he has done, and sees, and does not do like them;
Eze 18:17 has turned back his hand off the poor, and has not received interest and increase. He has done My judgments, has walked in My statutes. He shall not die for the iniquity of his father. Living he shall live.

This principle is clearly repeated even in the story of israel, God's chosen nation. If you look at the captivity in Babylon for instance, God was to judge them already but righteous kings and generations like that of Josiah kept on evading the judgement. It was when hardened kings who did not listen to God or to His prophets got there, that they were eventually punished. Their cup was full as it were. They were offenders too.

Uyi Iredia: Telling people to love their neighbour or enemies doesn't explicitly tell them not to kill which is what I meant by my request.
In the context of the discussions and of the thread, telling people to love others means do not kill them. That is the way even the old Israelites understood it in the Old Testament. they didn't go about killing themselves, but their/God's enemies.

Can anyone imagine the trauma that the boy just faced? All i hear is about stubborn looks, is there a way he is not to look! He looks more of confused and overwhelmed after probably being physically abused and shaken by the airport people. How about medical care, and then intervieing the boy lke child? Why is the family being treated like hey are responsible for the woes of the nation?
