@ wormedup. I feel ya pain but u gys have spent a lot more in the last 3 years. In 2006, Sheva joined Chelsea for 30m pounds. Kalou joined for 10m. Mikel's services were bought with 16m pounds. Boulahrouz is 10m pounds and anutha 17m pounds still awaits Wenger if he sells Cole this week. Do the math and tell me why anyone will not expect y'all money-bags to perform. |
Man City wins 1-0. Neither City nor Arsenal deserved any point. This is the worst premiership game i have seen in 10 years. Thierry Henry will look at this match and say he would never be crowned as the world footballer of the year. Shame on the Arsenal team. |
Honestly, this match has confirmed Wenger's weakness. Wenger is the biggest ass-hole in the premiership. I cannot believe this spectacle at all. |
10 mins to go and Arsenal still looks as shitty as ever. |
Ohhhh Ma Days. Stupid Wenger removed Rosicky and Hleb and left Henry on. Henry's free-kicks would make uwanna cry today as the ball were picked out of the stadium. Why can't Wenger remove Henry if he plays shiiiit? The most annoying thing is he wouldn't even let the an astute Van Perise take free-kicks and he keeps blasting the ball well over the bar. Wenger should be shot if Arsenal loses this match. P.S. Henry's the only player in the world that is greater than his team. |
Arsenal is so crappy and Man City shouldn't even be in the Premiership. The match is so crappy and Henry might not even get 6 goals this season. His sharpness has diminished and he looks like a wimp out there. |
@ Justkunmi. Its so annoying the kind of luxury Henry enjoys @ Arsenal. Are u watching Arsenal's match now? Henry is so shabby he playes like a complete idiot and stupid Wenger cannot even take the bold step and remove him. I don't understand the kinda wimp of a manager Arsene Wenger is. Henry's had 3 shots on target and his final execution is just woeful. This is the most shambolic premiership game i have seen in 10 years with the way Arsenal is playing. |
@suprted, U should go and read what Scolari said about Ronaldo's rapid development under Ferguson. Ferguson is the master in developing youth in the whole of Europe. More quality players have passed under Ferguson than any other European club manager. This can be attributed to his 20-year regime at OT but the man surely delivers. Don't get me wrong, Wenger is a very brilliant manager in the way he economises and delivers out of nuthing. The only blemish about him is his lack of plan B and over-dependent on Thierry Henry. Wenger's greatest strength is his ability to spot young Africans and polish 'em like ornamental materials. I'm still surprised all the die-hard gunners on Nairaland don't even know Wenger discovered George Weah in 1988. Wenger brought Weah(the greatest african player ever) to Monaco and Weah later moved on to conquer world football. I was expecting u to mention it in your argument but your football knowledge isn't up to that. ![]() Anyways, twas a nice discussion we had. I hope to tackle u on other issues in future. Cheers mate! |
In your Champions League final which u never won. ![]() United won theirs and thats a major difference. Nevertheless, Arsene still has just 1 player in the CL final as far as ma own analysis goes. Arsene Wenger has nuthing to do with Eboue's development. Eboue was a graduate of Jean-Marc Guillou's academy in Abidjan which was attached to ASEC Mimosas. It was from there he went to K.S.K. Beveren and played for 3 seasons before signing for Arsenal in January 2005. So are u telling me Wenger developed Eboue in less than 2 years to play in the Champions League final? Puh-leaaase, lets be realistic. U cannot put Eboue in your developed players. Kolo Toure's move to Arsenal is ditto to Eboue's U cannot count him as one of Wenger's creations as well. Cesc Fabregas started his career at FC Barcelona B(reserve team) before Arsenal signed him in mid 2003. Prior to Cesc signing for the gunners, he took part in the 2003 FIFA U-17 Championship winning the golden shoe as the tournament's top scorer and the golden ball as the tournament's MVP. In this manner, one can say Fabregas would still have been what he is even if he had signed for Enyimba of Aba. Wenger's influence is minimal as far as Fabregas is concerned so count him out as well. Fabregas/World cup invitation shows the way other countries see the Premiership as the top league in Europe. Weren't u surprised the PREMIERSHIP provided the highest number of players in the world cup? There were load of shitty players who made the world cup just because they play in the Premiership. In conclusion, Wenger's only bred player is surprisingly Ashley Cole in 11 years. Its an achievement anyways but its a far cry compared to Ferguson's success with his youth academy. Talking about youth academy players, i think u should concentrate on players that spent 3-5 yrs in the youth academy before breaking into the 1st team like Scholes, Ashley Cole, Beckham and Giggs etc and NOT players that were already cooked/half-cooked in other youth academies before joining Arsenal. ******* We have tons of players that played better with United than when they first came. Louis Saha, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Rio Ferdinand, Gabby Heinze, Wayne Rooney, J S Park and i can just go on and on. |
In a team of 18 players Fergie developed 6? Can u compare that to Wenger's developmental schemes? Ferguson can still replicate this feat but football has gone past that stage. It takes time to have young players coming through like that to achieve domestic and European success and fans are too impatient these days. Fans demand instant success these days and no one is really interested in who comes through the youth system as long as u can bring immediate success to the club. For instance, Chelsea must have bought about 200 million pounds worth of players since the Roman revolution simply because Chelsea simply wants the UEFA trophy and domestic dominance. That says a lot about modern football. Look around u and check the number of managers that have been sacked in the last few years all over Europe- this shows how impatient how club executives/ fans get in the modern era. What do u think brought about this crazy metamorphisis? Ferguson will achieve this feat once more if the club can give him 5-6 years to develop the brilliant players in his youth academy BUT that'll be unacceptable to the army of fans out there. |
@ suprted, It is a fact that Ferguson's fledglings were responsible for Man Utd's success throughout the 90's. The bulk of the United team in the 90's graduated from the youth team and there's a telegraphic understanding amongst them which made the team strike the fear of the Lord in other English clubs. 92/93(The 1st premiership season)---Ryan Giggs came through the youth ranks and formed a good partnership with the likes of Cantona to win the title. 93/94 season------This season saw United winning the double for the 1st time(The Premiership and the FA cup) which was aided by the capture of Roy keane. 94/95 season -------Cantona received an 8-month suspension ban but United were still runners-up in the FA and the Premiership. Not good enough but it wasn't a bad season as well. This was the year Ferguson outraged the fans by selling the old players and replacing them with the likes of the Nevilles, David Beckham and Paul Scholes. 95/96 season--------With Ferguson's fledglings in the team, United won the double again. 96/97 season----------United won the Premiership yet again with the army of his youth academy and Cantona announced his retirement. 97/98 season---------Arsenal claimed the double. 98/99 season-------The most succesful season in English club football history was won by the bulk of Ferguson's fledglings. United became the 1st and the only English team to win the treble. David Beckham was highly instrumental to this feat as his 2 corner-kicks won the UEFA trophy for United. Giggsy's goal against Arsenal in the FA S/finals of the same season was voted as the best goal ever scored in the 120 something years old club competition. Ferguson was also knighted for his services in football. 99/2000 season----------United continued their dominance and won the Premiership. 2000/2001 season-------------Anutha Premiership title was added. Man United won the title for 3 consecutive seasons and this record hasn't been broken till date in the Premiership and the fledglings were largely responsible for the amazing success of the team. In contrast to your analysis, the glory years were made possible by the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs who were the engine room in the midfield and supply quality and sublime passes to Cole/Yorke partnership. Ferguson's lil' boys (10 pounds net worth) won the title back to back for 3 seasons and contributed largely to the glory days. No team is yet to match this feat and if at all Jose achieves this, he would have done so with the highest-paid mercenaries in the world with the likes of Didi Drogba, Andriy Shevchenko, Shawn Wright Phillips, Michael Essien (100 million pounds net worth) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @ debosky, Never make the mistake of calling a Scottish a British. U could get punched in the face. Sheer luck cannot win any team 3 consecutive league titles and a treble. It was hard-work, uniformity and telegraphic understanding of players that have played together for so long. If it was sheer luck then Wenger should have at least struck luck once and won a back to back league title as well. Being Scottish has nuthing to do with this success especially when people like u think English players don't worth a dime compared to other European countries. Wenger can also go to the French league and catch 'em young. |
@ wormedup, Anybody that feels Chelsea's title dream is over is the joker of the century. There are still 36 games to go in a 10-month long season that will still suffer autumn, cold winter and spring. Chelsea may probably win the next 25 games on a trot with this early defeat because i am sure Jose Mourinho will be ruthless in his approach. The only certainty here is Jose won't go down without a fight and i pity the next 10 teams that face Chelsea in the Premiership. His wrath will be devastating and the carnage will match the Vietnam war. One thing i admire Mourinho for is his post-match comments and the last one moved me to pieces. Mourinho, after losing to Middlesboro said:"I have been a manager for 5,6 or 7 years and i can tell u this is not a Jose Mourinho's team". |
@ wormedup, I don't understand why everyone is taunting Chelsea because they happened to draw Barca in the same group. This should be a good news to all Chelsea fans because even if u lose both home n away to Barca, u can still qualify by beating other teams. One thing is certain, u will not meet Barca in the knock-out stages which is a plus to Chelsea because any loss at this stage is ELIMINATION. Other English teams run the risk of meeting Barca in the knock-out stages and that will definitely end their respective campaigns. I kind of envy Chelsea's situation than any other English team because the next time Chelsea meets Barca might be in the final of the UCL and anything can happen in the finals. Don't despair, mate! This is more of a good news to Chelsea than people are making it out to be. |
Arsenal fans are the same everywhere with their mouths and boastings. Theo Walcott is just an ordinary player and u guys should stop making noises about him before u kill his career. Gooners always over-exaggerate the potentials of their players. Where's Jose Antonio Reyes today? He has not scored 17 goals in 3 seasons at Arsenal as a striker. This was a player some Arsenal fans claimed will bang 30 goals a season cos Wenger bought him for 17 million. Theo Walcott made 2 assists, 7 goal-kicks and 12 corner-kicks and blah blah blah. Walcott is not as skillful as our own Mikel Obi so i command all gooners to shut their mouths on Walcott. I will not comment on him until he faces stiff opposition like Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham and prove his mettle. Dinamo Zagreb is not a good standard to measure Walcott's potentials yet. Lets wait n see. |
UEFA has capitalised on the Frank Rijkaard/Jose Mourinho's drama and they must be loving it. Can't u realise the revenue this match will generate for UEFA? I won't be surprised if the all the tickets are sold-out already. Barca Vs Chelsea match has been the main feature of UEFA champions league in the past 3 seasons. Other matches are just side attractions. |
Anutha blind theory. Fergie developed Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt to win the Premiership title in 1992. Thats 6 quality players in 6 years after Fergie joined Man Utd. How can u begin to compare Fergie to Wenger in player developement schemes? Fergie won the 1st & 2nd edition of the Premiership with the bulk of his youth players in 1992 and 93. Wenger is no match abeg. I wld rather put Staurt Pearce, Bryan Robson and David O'Leary in Wenger's category. |
@ Debosky, This is ma 10-man list. Gary Neville(Man Utd) Phil Neville(Everton FC) David Beckham(Real Madrid) Nicky Butt(Newcastle FC) Paul Scholes(Man Utd) Ryan Giggs(Man Utd) Kieran Richardson(Man Utd) Darren Fletcher(Man Utd) Wes Brown(Man Utd) John O'Shea(Man Utd) I mentioned 10 because all these players have represented their respective national teams at one point or the other. Majority of them are known globally unlike the ones Wenger really discovered. Fergie and Wenger ain't mates. Wenger and Iain Dowie or maybe Stuart Pearce should be on the same bracket in player development schemes. ![]() |
Senderos? Wenger stole Senderos from Servette's(Swiss Club) youth system in December 2002. He had already capatained Switzerland to the European U-17 championship before he signed for Arsenal. How can u now name this guy as Wenger's development. U are very harsh. BTW, i can list 10 players Ferguson developed in his 20 years at Man Utd which is a very impressive record. @ Akola. FYI, he has only developed 2 players in his 10 years. Senderos was not one of Wenger's developments as he was snatched from Servette. Wenger is a real player developer. ![]() |
U are the one not making sense here because Lampard has indeed scored against Barca before. Have u forgotten his penalty at Nou Camp that sent Valdes the wrong way? Why don't u check your analogies well before deploying them. U fell for ma booby-trap. Sorry mate! |
So are u comparing Wes Brown to all ur shiity defenders in Arsenal? U have surely shot urself in the leg. Wes Brown is a brilliant defender and thatz why he always keep Henry in check whenever the 2 teams play. Injury is the major factor why he hasn't pushed his career further than the way it is now. Ferguson joined Man Utd in 1986 and he won the Premiership in '92 & '93 with the youth academy-Thats 6 years after he joined Man U. This is Wenger's 10th year at Arsenal and he cannot boast of even 5 players that graduated from the youth system. Stop making excuses for Wenger. All Wenger does is to raid other academies and snatch their young players and make "em look like his own developments. |
Lampard ever scored against Barcelona? What has that gotta do with Theo Walcott's assist against Dinamo Zagreb? Lets see what Theo Walcott will offer when Arsenal meets teams like Chelsea and Liverpool. |
@ pie1ect, Its people like u that gives the gooners a bad name. Ferguson second to Wenger in youth development? I am having a laugh. How many players have graduated from Arsenal's youth academy to become world stars under Arsene Wenger? NIL. Henry and Vieira already featured for France in the world cup '98 before they joined Arsenal so don't go there. It only shows u lack football knowledge at the global level when u mentioned Theo Walcott that already featured for Southampton. I wont be surprised if u think Wenger taught Walcott the skills he currrently displays. Ferguson took a class of youth academy in 1992 to win titles after titles in England. David Beckham, Nevilles, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Wes Brown, Ryan Giggs, Kieran Richardson and a host of others. Wenger is a distant 2nd to Alex Ferguson when it comes to player development. |
Did u say only Fulham? I remembered Fulham took 3 points out of Chelsea last season. Didn't the same Chelsea take 6 points out of your team(Arsenal)? No team is ordinary these days. If u doubt me, go and check Chelsea's latest results. Aston Villa looks ordinary but Arsenal could only managed a draw on their own pitch. 6 points is 6 points and United is happy to be the only team in the Premiership that has managed the 100% record. UTD is out to prove a point. Watch your backs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WARNING TO OPPOSITION FANS: Booing Cristiano Ronaldo could cause extensive damage to your teams. |
Most definitely. Chelsea will be back. Jose's problems stems from the fact that he bought too many similar players at the same time and he has not really worked out the winning formular out yet. This defeat is def'ly going to make Jose go beserk. Chelsea will probably win the next 25 games with this early defeat cos i expect Jose to axe some complacent players. Terry's performance today was shambolic and the attitude, guile and character were not just there for Chelsea. I expect some massive shake-up to get Chelski outta the blocks. |
Jose Mourinho's been shot down again by ever rampaging Boro. Boro's ground is now becoming the most-feared fortress in the Premiership cos they know how to pull giants down. Boro has now beaten chelsea twice this year and that is top-draw. |
@debosky, U have answered the questions urself. Walcott's assist was against which opposition? Real Madrid? Barcelona? Man Utd? Chelsea? Nahhhhhhhhhhh Against Dinamo Zagreb? Yes. A team ranked 357 in Europe against a seeded Arsenal team in Europe. U should be ashamed of urself. Man Utd will take a reserve team to win this kinda match. |
Mourinho will probably blame the weather for this loss. Ferguson will be counting his blessings on a horrid night in London. A sterling performance from Giggsy, Ronaldo and Evra. GO MAN U GO MANU GO. |
@justkunmi, Anutha sterling performance from Man Utd. Ferguson's tactics is always spot-on. Ronaldo and Giggsy were constant menace throughout the match and Patrice Evra has been the revelation of the season. 8 goals in just 2 matches is not a bad return for a team most Nairalanders think they won't make it. FYI, Chelsea lost 2-1 again to Middlesboro and currently locking the 7th spot on the premiership table. I wonder what Roman will be thinking now. Ferguson is seriously considering Tevez and it will be a brilliant signing. Tevez is class and when a player like that shows the "come and get me" signals then i think it should be taken serious. He turned up in a Man Utd shirt on his press conference when he joined Corinthians,so he must fancy us plus the club's new manager has told Tevez categorically that he does not want Argentines in the Brazilian outfit. With Tevez, Man Utd will have the most ugliest, most ruthless, most dangerous and deadliest front line in Europe. Saha and Solskjaer wont play 38 games in the season without copping one long-spell injury or the other-It's their habit. Besides these duo are one injury away each to the end of their career so u cannot really place your faith in 'em. Ronaldo and Rooney will bag match suspensions every now and then as they are the most-despised players in the Premiership this season. So i suggest Ferguson should break the bank and sign Tevez now. I want to see the dream combination of Ronaldo + Rooney + Tevez ASAP. The trio are still young which means Ferguson will definitely get at least 6-8 years sterling performance from them. Whatchu think? |
No football team can force any player to play against his will. The club would have tampered with the so-called player's human rights by forcing him to. Mikel Obi had his way even after signing the dotted lines for Alex Ferguson so a player's rights are very important. The deal will go through if Owen Hargreaves throws in a transfer request but the only snag here is Ferguson must meet the agreed price if he really wants him. Man Utd will sign a couple of players before the 31st of August. Have u heard Carlos Tevez might be on his way to OT? Some United officials are in Brazil talking to the lad so u might be seeing Tevez wearing the number 10 shirt for United this season. ![]() |
@ oxygen. You are still beating a dead horse with your questions. Why should there be a law for OBJ's friends and anutha law for OBJ's enemies. This is not a question of whether the accused were guilty of their crimes or not. Afterall, the government is capable of making us believe whatever they want us to. I am educated/smart enough to know if Obasanjo decides to make someone an enemy of the state then u shall become one. OBJ ordered the FBI to search Atiku's mansion in the United States and what was found? Nuthing! Had it been in Nigeria, The po-po/EFCC would have planted something to implicate Atiku. OBJ's game is up and he is doing everything to stop potential presidential candidates by unleashing RIBADU(robocop) on them. Every politician in Nigeria is guilty so EFCC should cage everyone and not only OBJ's political enemies. The issue here is EFCC should also make frantic efforts to bring OBJ's friends to book. I am absolutely sure EFCC wouldn't have arrested any politician if all the politicians in Nigeria supported OBJ's 3rd term bid. All the people being caged right now are suffering because they did not support OBJ's idea of remaining in power and EFCC is being used as a tool/device to lock people up. How fair is EFCC? It is the most-corrupt commision ever established in the history of Nigeria. It's a commision designed for vendetta against OBJ's adversaries. |
@ debosky, What else can Wenger add to Gallas' quality? Pls don't exaggerate Wenger's ability. Wenger is good but i can make a 100-man list of players that deteriorated while at Arsenal which proves Wenger is not a ball of fire like most Arsenal fans especially Nigerians think. An average Nigerian Arsenal fan will conclude Wenger changed Kanu's game but i disagree with that. Wenger ruined Kanu's career and i still believe he used Kanu to build Thierry Henry(his kinsman) and he dumped kanu like a trash bag when the deed was done. Kanu was not even in Arsenal when he won Japan 93, Champions League in 1995 and Atlanta 96. |
