Nice to see that you are trying to make parents understand this very important part of growing up!
I want to add that parents especially mothers should be very careful at this period to communicate with their adolescent children.
I noticed that most times mothers feel this child has no will of his her own therefore doesn't deserve to be respected...you find parents screaming down at the child at any given opportunity. Just for little mistake or error in making judgement.
To communicate involves more than just throwing instructions and expect immediate and unquestionable loyalty...and this is the first mistake we make. We disregard the child's time and expect them to fully obey us!
We disregard the child's emotions and expect them to just be inanimate to our own ends meet!
Suffice to say..."that's the way we were brought up!" This is what most parents say when questioned on their treatment of their children...
There's a lot to learn to make this very special moment become a moment to savour for the children that fall into this category!
Recall your own period and ask yourself...how much we longed for our parents to understand our emotional and psychological needs then...and how we felt when they didn't grasp!

I agree with you...on the other hand maybe the agency responsible deducted the 2k as required...I say so cos from the money given as loans to petty traders by BOI I know there's a direct deducted amount to facilitate repayment...viz: you're loaned #50k payback is 6 months... we're informed 8k will immediately be returned to treasury to cover 2 months remittance!

For lovers of sweet things, the unripe plantain pottage alone, somehow, is a dish that is not as interesting as it sounds. Not to worry; this is the recipe for you. You can add sweet potatoes or ripe plantains to this recipe for added sweetness.


Ingredients
-2 large green plantains, washed, peeled and diced
-1 medium sweet potato, washed, peeled and grated
-¼ cup palm oil
-2 tbsp ground crayfish
-1 medium onion, sliced
--2 cups shredded smoked fish
-2 seasoning cubes
-1 tsp ground pepper, or to taste
Salt, to taste
-A handful of fresh greens (ugu, spinach, utazi), thinly sliced.

Method
1.Put the diced plantains in a pot.
2.Add the chopped onions, stock cubes, fish, ground crayfish and pepper.
3.Add in enough water to just cover the contents of the pot.
4.Cook on medium-high heat until the contents boil.
5.Add the palm oil and salt to taste.
6.Cover the pot and cook on low-medium heat until the plantain is almost tender. Then add the grated sweet potatoes and cook until done.
7.Take off the heat and stir in the vegetables.
8.Leave to stand for a few minutes before serving.

OP...you're very correct...95% correct we leave the 5% for any unusual behavior that's unforeseen as humans.
as a growing child my parents never bothered to understand my feelings at all...I was just a child...follow these rules or get the punishment... the greatest need I had was how to communicate with them. just remain as invisible as you can and you're "fine".
now I'm a parent...first question I asked my self was if I've the guts to flog my kids...YES came the answer but I also thought..."can't there be better way to keep them sane obedient and same time friendly with me? I found that working with them was also teaching them how to get to know things and work it well.
I think I used the situation I faced to an advantage by making them feel wanted. I explained my anger rather than expressing it more often...
then I always ask myself... would I rather be scolded harshly or kindly if I made the same mistakes they make!?
that's helped me in bringing them up...they're in their teens now...we're closer than ever...

gaskiya if I upload my own pictures of all the things I did for my kids when they were mere tots up to their present ages .....my own for reach another galaxy! this one isn't a big deal!

since my time on nairaland I've seen only pictures of the "beautiful" ones display their sexuality, indiscretion and insensitivity to other people's discretion on all forms of social media....I'm yet to see ladies from the "backward" areas do same...
