Christianity Etc › Re: Am I A Hypocrite For Getting The Lords Prayer Tattoo by JeSoul(f): 5:33pm On Mar 05, 2010 |
davidylan: I have no problem with a tattoo on other folks who are unsaved . . . but when christians start saying that a tattoo is ok then there is a serious problem. the issue here is that our churches have become whitened sepulchres . . . dead to the spirit and only interested in pandering to the masses to drive the crowd into its pews.
1. What is the sole reason a christian is here on earth? To glorify God and be a living testimony of Him . . . how does getting a tattoo achieve this?
2. The bible says this . . . John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
It may not specifically say a tattoo is a sin . . . well neither does the bible condemn smoking, having concubines, clubbing or disobeying the police.
Madam whiteroses . . . you got a tattoo to satisfy your fleshly desires to be like your unsaved friends. You can sugar-coat it all you want, you can request for "neutral christianity" to paper over the truth for you . . . -In David's world, getting a tattoo is indicative of conforming to the world. -In another christian's world, women wearing pants is indicative of conforming to the world. -In yet another christian's world, listening to any style of music that aren't hymn-like, is indicative of conforming to the world. I have no problem with christians who don't want tattoos personally and don't like them. That is your personal preference! You cannot project your own idea or conviction of "sin" onto others. Sorry, but to insinuate it is scripturally or biblically wrong is - wrong. Like e36991 just said - it is a personal choice. And a christian's MOTIVE for getting it is what determines whether or not it is a sin. |

karo93: Dont you guys understand when God is not talking literally?? i think you should show me a situation when God's people really started branding themselves then ill know that i am mistaken. Whether or not we have examples of mass engravings of tattoos by God's people in the bible is of little relevance. The bottomline is the bible does not forbid it for NT christians. Whether or not it is a sin to them is between them and God. Finito.
InesQor: @JeSoul: I never met her, but a thread where KunleOshob was accusing viaro of being pilgrim1 made me look through her posts. Mehn! That girl is something else!! I wish someone had her contacts, I'd really like to communicate with her. Somethine else is an understatement. She's taken 'sabbaticals' several times and returned back to NL. debosky: Thank you for that - to simply say tattoos are wrong without understanding the basis for them is a bland generalization.
The reference to tattoos in the OT was likely related to writings done on the body in relation to other gods. . . . and even if it wasn't. Last time I read the bible, we are not following the Law anymore. One thing that really irks me - selective usage of bits of the OT Laws that are mischievously presented as scriptural basis for a personal opinion the proponent may hold. If I don't like pork, I can provide an OT verse against that. If I don't like your long hairstlye, I can provide at OT verse against that and so on. Like you said, the basis for those Laws need to be understood in order to appreciate why God instituted them in the first place - then we can proceed to understand why, how or IF they apply to us today. InesQor: How does writing on your skin reduce its value? Note that God was speaking well of the blessed descendants of Jacob who tattooed on their hands that they are the Lord's. I wonder. That's his personal opinion and he's trying to project onto others and make it their standard. I happen to think tattoos, small and in moderation are cool. Correct! JeSoul and debosky have said what I was going to say. Interesting points by pilgrim1 on that link you supplied. The funny thing is that some medical procedures require tattooing, so will you proceed NOT to receive the tattoo in that case? That's really weird Medical tattooing? never heard of it till now. As for Pilgrim I miss that girl. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Does Anybody Believe That Human Corpse Can Turn To Money? by JeSoul(f): 4:26pm On Mar 05, 2010 |
jagunlabi: Natural laws? What are those? The ones prescribed us by scientists? Those laws that are ever changing as the scientists themselves receive more and more information and know more about how this world works?Like i said before, we know far too little about this reality to give us the authority to draw final conclusions on how things must and should work in this world. No self-respecting scientist will ever stand up to say that he knows enough to say that the natural laws are fixed and inimutable. This is not about believing anything, it is about remaining open to new informations about our reality that are coninuously streaming in so that we can know. jagunlabi: ^^^^ Like i said before, i have no authority to reject or accept any event that happens in this reality no matter how weird it may seem.So i will remain with my "maybe, maybe not" logic. The scientist are now more increasingly accepting what the ancient spiritualists have been saying for millenia, that this reality is a simulated 3D holographic illusion, and it is very maleable if somebody knows how to do it.If this is really true, then it becomes very clear why such weird phenomenons can happen because the corpse and the bank notes are all holographic illusions anyway. Can a dead body turn to or produce bank notes? I do not know, but i cannot and do not rule it out completely because i do not have all the data yet. That remains my stand for now.Let us all wait for more informations before making a final conclusion on what can and cannot happen in this reality.
But i tell you what, with the right 3D animation and special effect software, i can make a corpse sing and dance and spray bank notes straight from his/her mouth in a digital world created by me and it will look real if i know my stuff well and possess a good system.Just look at the kind of graphics coming out of hollywood, the movie avatar as the latest example.I don't have to tell you how convincing the graphics looked and that is only the beginning, the quality is going to get so goo that we will not be able to tell the difference between a CGI and what is real. Do you understand what i am pointing at here? -Computer created digital world with a corpse that can do anything, generated by a good combination of 3D graphics and special effect software -3D holographic simulated reality -Moneymaking rituals -Banknotes producing corpses.
I am believing it more and more everyday that this reality that we live in is a computer generated 3D holographic simulated reality, so nothing can be too weird to me anymore. We can't possibly know what is real for us and what is not because there is nothing else we can compare and contrast this reality with. This reality is all we know.Unfortunately, we will have to die or sign out, as i like to put it, before we know what is behind the scene. As for now, anything is possible, even corpses that produce banknotes. Jagunlabi, I like all the above. I like very much. Very interesting position. |

whiteroses: i wanted a tattoo and decides i'll get it when im 21. now i'm 21 but then i became more deep in christianity last month and now i feel like getting the lords prayer in accient italics design on my upper back, on the left side. is tattoo a sin cos i feel as tho im mocking God, should i as well be bad and get a random design tattoo then. do you know what i mean? like if lord doesn't like tattoo i'm getting it anyway cos even my mum has it, but should i live the bible out of this or it doesnt matter? i feel like those illuminati rapper always shoutting jesus in their rap lines therefore mocking him in vain. tanks Whiteroses dear, anyone who tells you that getting a tatoo is a sin - is either lying or simply ignorant of what the scriptures truly say. To those parading defunct OT laws as grounds for NT living . . . isn't that little trick too old to be employing on NL? My sister, if you're interested see this thread where it was discussed extensively a while back https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-108212.0.html There's nothing wrong with a tatoo in and of itself - it is your motive for getting it that will determine whether it is a sin for you or not. |

That film was whack!!!! The only reason it did well in the box office was cuz of the hype it generated and also that three D thingy helped There're several reasons a movie can get selected for overall best picture. One may be strong in the script, the other in the visuals, the other in the delivery, and yet another in the characters. There are so many aspects to consider. What Avatar was lacking in script, it overcame in delivery, visuals and characters. Do people even consider those who haven't seen Pocahontas (a suprisingly good amount of my friends) will see Avatar as a completely "new" movie? I haven't seen it in 3D so I don't know whether that's what's making people go ga-ga. But I do know Avatar excelled in the above areas and deserves to be among the finalists. If it were in my hands to give, I would give the Oscar to District 9 - hands down, in an instant. |

HL comes across to me as a movie 'critics' and movie snubs love to embrace (there's usually one movie a year) but it just makes no sense. There isn't that x-factor, ground-shattering characteristic, that zing . . . just like "There will be blood", the movie had some good elements but overall, no big deal at all. Where the Youtube video dey, I wan see am ooo Krayola: sharap. Does your oga know u are on the computer? U betta not let him catch you Lol, Krayola easy on the guy now . Chic, whats your email address?
Krayola: Whoa!! Thats pretty intense. Just saw the first video. deep. U were pretty darn effective in getting your point across. It's funny I saw this today cause I have a very good friend that is an anthropology major and is really into African culture and history, and she called me one night crying, talking about how she hates the fact that she is white and has to live with what her ancestors did. She told me about that chik that was taken to France and put on display because she had a big butt, and stuff like that, and she was really upset about it. It's pretty scary when one learns all the lil details about the whole slavery stuff. SOme of the stuff is just unbelievably cruel.
It makes me sick when I see well to do Nigerian kids call the less privileged, ones that are in touch with our African heritage, names like "razz" and "local". I can't tell u how much that s.h.it bugs me. Depressing that we can take the culture of people that did such harm to us, and now use them as the standard for "sophistication". Fela called it kolo-mentality. It is still very much alive. But thats a whole other story and doesn't belong on the music section. haha. Yeah for real, the history of slavery is a very very nasty and brutal one. To think of how they even lived through and survived is a miracle, not to mention, AA's and us Africans are still suffering the after effects and will probably still continue to for a long time. With knowledge we can continue to empower ourselves - lest we forget. your verse was very effective like I said. . . spoke to what is happening today. I like the last guy's verse too. Nana I think? He was on point. . he's really tight! The whole piece was pretty darn effective. I'll be sending a link of it to my friend as I'm sure she would absolutely love to see it. Hope u don't mind. Nah, I don't mind at all jare, it is for sharing ain't it? lol. And yeah Nana really knocked it out of the park, he's a very good lyricist. The second one is good too, I liked it a lot. U looked so into it, and were smiling the whole time. I left a comment. haha. thanks for sharing. My brother thank you oh . I was enjoying myself lol. I sent u a link to one of the songs I'm workin on. . Got it and responded! |

I don't think that is what I saw. I saw the one that you posted in the religion section briefly a while back. I think it was a church function and u raised the roof. U had the audience going crazy. It was pretty cool. Kai, you're inflating my head too much lol. I've just sent you a link to the video. It was a documentary done by the African-American slavery museum in Philly, they enlisted a couple of us to put together a hiphop video accompanying the production. So there's 5 of us, each one focusing on a different aspect of slavery - ie, the slave ship, the auction block, plantation life etc. Cool educative stuff. Mine was the Auction block titled "For sale". Second video is simply a friend of mine rapping to me playing acoustic guitar, sunday morning service at a church. ElRazur, what's your email address? I wanna send it to you too. I'd rather not post my youtube page up here (believe it or not, I'm shy oh lol). |
