BSsniffer: Am not saying it's a sin, neither am I religiously pious, but flaunting wealth isn't necessarily encouraged in christainity....plus it screams new money and the recklessness that comes with it. The bible is not against display of wealth. Besides, expensive burials and other ceremonies present opportunities to circulate wealth by providing jobs, cash and food to those who don't have. We should be fighting against corruption and illegitimate acquisition of wealth, not condemning legitimately wealthy people for the way they chose to spend their money. |

Thanos: Depends on your definition and measure of intelligence. I really do not want to go into the nitty gritty of this topic. But in reference to nation building, you can go and look up the major inventions, discoveries, and organizations that run the world and tell me how many women are behind them. Intelligence is not by doing e=mc2 alone. There are a lot of angles to it and i'd like to think from existing facts on ground, men have proven to be superior in that area. My opinion. Some early men in their ignorance simply failed to utilize the intelligence and smartness embedded in the female gender. Yet, records still have some great women who made great inventions; the likes of Marrie Currie who discovered radioactivity. In the political sphere, women like queen Amina and the Ghanaian queen mother Nana Asantewaa who led the battle against the whites( ie the war of the golden stool) also existed. |
Family › Re: Nigerian Men Have Failed Their Women by Jman06(m): 10:53pm On Jul 15, 2021 |
Thanos: I’ve managed to read the entire back and forth on this thread and I would say this. I understand completely the perspective from which the OP based his argument. Men claim (or are/depending on what side of the argument you are on) stronger, smarter, inherently intelligent than the women hence that means more responsibility is on the men to lead, as all the qualities listed above are what you expect from a leader at a bare minimum. Every recorded civilization right from the beginning (depending on either the religious or scientific origins) has always being built majorly by men. It is a constant throughout history and I hope no one is arguing that. Hence, it can be inferred that if all the praise and success attached with building a functioning and sustaining civilization goes to the men, the same men should be held accountable for places where civilization failed (yes, I know I am oversimplifying but you get the point). Now I won’t even try an engage any woman in this conversation because if I am a man, who claims to be the head and the superior gender, I am not trying to reason with a woman, I am superior. I let her do as I please. When she thinks she’s arguing with me, it’s basically me letting her talk. When she thinks she advancing at a rapid rate, it is simply me stepping back and letting her bask in the spotlight. Lol. Women supporting this post really don’t see the undercurrent of misogyny their third-wave feminism is barely trying to contend with. Now, back to the example, he made concerning prostitution. Let me see if I can elaborate on it further. Prostitution is as old as time. It has been here before us and it would be here far after we are all gone. The question is why is it in even successful first world countries, it is still rampant. Ladies and gentle, I present to you the economics of demand and supply. It is really not a matter of morality. It is just a matter of market economics. Demand determines the market and as long as there are men who are willing to pay for the service, there would always be women who are ready to offer it. It is that simple. That is why at the end of the day, the responsibility still falls on men. Now there is this misconception that women are the custodians of sex and all that. That cannot be farther from the truth. Men are the custodians of sex. On average, I’ll take my chances that I can sleep with 80% of world women if I wanted to (with or without consent) because I am the stronger sex. I can do as I please if I want to. The keyword being if. How many women can single-handedly pin down an average man and force him to have sex with her? It does not take a rocket scientist to know that number would be in the sub 40% percentile of the world’s female population. My point is, when you think about it critically, while you might not entirely agree with all of the OP’s points, his perspective is valid and his logic is sound. Now I am not saying that Nigeria’s problem would be solved by having a woman lead because the issues that plague this country are like the mythical hydra. And this one comes with 100 heads. But if we as men continue to throw around the superior gender card in the face of women, then who should be held accountable for the majority of the blame in a failed society as if we trace for the root cause, it always starts and ends with men. So to buttress the OP’s point. Yes, Nigerian men have failed Nigerian women, or to put it better, Nigerian men have failed Nigeria. I bet if the OP used the latter as the post’s topic, he would probably not get as much traction. But some boys can’t help themselves. Once they hear anything that remotely tries to favor women, they get their panties in a bunch. Lol. I come in peace Whoever told you that men are more intelligent than women is either ignorant or lying to you. |

It depends on what you want. If you're fine with marrying the 28yo woman, then go ahead with that. But if you really desire a younger girl, please go ahead and look for someone younger. Don't listen to anyone telling you to stick to the older woman on the basis that you're old. That's trash! Women exhibit the same characteristics in marriage whether old or young, and so, a man should not be fooled into marrying an older woman with the lie that she'll show maturity in the marriage. It doesn't work that way. |

Foolish ladies and their entitlement mentality. FYI, the man has grown tired of you long ago, that your vagina is useless to him right now, so don't think you are getting back at him by cheating. The kids are his only source of joy now, hence he's paying more attention to them. Very soon, your cheating ways will get exposed to him and you'll leave his house to the street where you belong. If a referendum is to take place today, I doubt those people whose fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, in-laws etc have been killed by ESN/IPOB will ever vote in support of Biafra's secession. |

Well, 10 years after your graduation, you will understand. That is all I have to tell you. There is no point trying to explain anything to you. But if you want to learn, be teachable.
Obviously from your comment, you need real help. You're the one that really needs help. You seem to see things only from your own perspective, even when you're clearly deficient in knowledge. To you, people should just accept any admission into just any program they're offered. You don't care if such courses even impart any knowledge to the students or not. It's all about going to the university and then coming out to start wandering about. Many programs in our universities need to be outrightly scrapped while some others like biochemistry need to be improved on in terms of facilities and raised standards. |

PeaceJoyLove: You don't know what you are talking about. This is exactly my point in my tech businesses in the programming section of Nairaland that most Nigerians these days arent innovative. The only thing Nigerians mostly know is copy and paste. Doctors (except researchers among them) are mostly copy and paste. Pharmacists are mostly too. If you want to know those who use their brains, they are mostly those who work in laboratories.
Your teachers do not allow you because you dont show interest. Show interest and prove yourself, then see how opportunities flow in. Find the professor who is outstanding in your department and prove yourself. Find out who are his/her research assistants among the masters and phd students. Tackle those ones, and they will show you the way. Just like how doctors need to tackle nurses and matrons while they are in school.
Listen to me: Biology and Micro-biology are one of the most outstanding courses in this present world. They both pave way into genetic engineering and science.
And to answer your course, study anything during your undergraduate....the sky is the limit. You can easily port to another field. It is very easy these days. That being said, you should try to choose something you are interested in. And if you are offered a course you dont know about, ask if there is a way to cross to the course you want to do in the future. If there is link, go for it.
Goodluck! I don't believe that people should study just any course they're offered and then start switching to other disciplines later. It breeds mediocrity and frustrations! That is the same reason some biochemistry and microbiology graduates now try to drag space with medical laboratory scientists despite the later being better trained and licensed for the job. If you're implying things like computer programming and the likes, I believe that can be done with just O-level education, so why waste time going to the university |
Education › Re: What Is The Worst University Course To Study? by Jman06(m): 9:43am On Jul 09, 2021 |
Karleb: I am not interested in dragging with lab technicians or any profession in the health line.
The ordeal I narrated happened to SIWES students. Why accept SIWES students and not train them? Why should a professional be afraid of SIWES students? As far as SIWES is concerned, it's all about the grade and knowledge. It will take an Einstein to setup his test/research laboratory after 5 months SIWES.
A colleague who studied microbiology is facing the same issue as a corps member at a particular FMC in Ogun State.
This issue is rare in private laboratories though.
I did my SIWES at Cocoa Research in Ibadan and I was shown everything. My colleague who interned at Coca-Cola in Lagos was shown everything, of course no one has access to the formula.
To be candid, the gate keeping in the public health sector just doesn't make sense. I believe those med lab guys do what they do because of the Nigerian factor. Don't be surprised to see one of those IT students trying to set up a lab just after the five months training. You know in Nigeria, many people lack discipline and honesty. |

Karleb:

I remember when our senior colleagues were complaining that the lab technicians at the hospital didn't allow them come close to the laboratory equipments. They said Biochemistry is not a professional course. Whereas, the test they take with the machines are pure biochemical tests.
So much hate and gate keeping in the health sector.
Microbiology is worse tho. I don't even regard that course. The problem in Nigeria is that the course is already saturated with too many graduates having a B.Sc in Biochemistry. Almost every university in Nigeria offers biochemistry and year in year out they keep churning out graduates of biochemistry. Besides, they are not even properly trained in terms of practical exposures. By the way, the purpose of BSc biochemistry is not for you to work in medical laboratory. It is a research-based discipline aimed primarily at producing researchers in the field! But here in Nigeria, the purpose has been lost and that is why graduates of biochemistry now see medical lab scientists as enemies and rivals. Meanwhile, medical laboratory scientists are the ones that have the requisite training to man clinical labs. Check your curriculum and compare it with that of medical laboratory science, you'll discover (if you're honest enough) that there's a whole lot of difference. I think the way forward is for the NSBMB and other stake holders to go back to the drawing board, rediscover the purpose of the course and focus on it, whilst cutting down on the number of intakes into the program and equipping training labs so as to impart the right practical exposures to the students. This is coming from a biochemistry graduate(2-1) who is now a pharmacist. |

Lostchild: Last month I thought about creating a thread on why Nigerian wives are so selfish but I had to hold back. Imagine me as a husband, woman will claims that she love me but yet she cannot extend little of that love my your family members
She cannot embrace her hubby family because it is just about she and her own family. She will want you to embrace her family and see yours as pain in the ass. She will feel threaten when you show love to your own family and not hers.
From what my own mother experienced, I have taken a vow never to allow any of my brother's wife or sister in laws into my circle.
Right mow my priority on women is base on kitchen things and raising my kids Exactly. Their selfishness when relating with men is second to none. Me I have vowed that under no condition will I place my wife above my mom and siblings. My reason is because they are too self centered and can decide to abandon their husbands when the chips are down, unlike your family that stays with you through thick and thin. No Nigerian lady (outside family) is worth placing on a pedestal over a guy's own needs. None! |

However, I have to commend Beancounter93 for his view, which is a sensible, long-term strategy for breaking out of a country. His viewpoint mirrors the most rational secession plan I have ever read on Nairaland. As for the rest, they just behave like the APC... criticize with obviously empty medulla oblongata. At least it is now obvious that Nnamdi Kanu lacks the intelligence to lead the struggle for Biafra cessation. With the manner he freely handed himself over to the Nigerian government by traveling to a country notorious for extradition of fugitives , we can now all see how "smart" your messiah is. |

Reno Omokri need to understand that not all Igbos support Nnamdi Kanu and his approach towards freedom fighting. I am Igbo but I saw through Nnamdi Kanu's tactlessness in his quest for Biafra long ago.
If he was smart enough, he wouldn't have started his radio Biafra broadcasts by insulting other regions of Nigeria and creating enmity for himself and the general Igbos among the rest of Nigerians.
A smart freedom fighter would not order the release of criminals from prisons and police stations in the same region he claims to fight for.
