RomanceRe: I'm Gay In My Art, And Straight In Life. by kay9(m):
@OP,
Live your life bro, and by all means explore all the straight and gay themes you desire to. You don't owe anybody an explanation. I'm not really an art enthusiast, but I recently saw a picture of the "Ikot woman of war" statue in front of the Women's War Museum, Ikot Abasi - she is shown breaking a British colonial soldier's gun across her knee with her bare hands - and i couldn't help appreciating how perfectly shaped her breasts were! Oh, and did I mention it was just the perfect size of n!pples? grin Artists certainly get away with lots of things, cos nowhere else will a nude woman be openly gawked at and applauded.

My brother, in Lagos survive or you die. That's why we can survive anywhere in the world.

That's also why a vast majority of Nigerians are nuisance in the abroad. It's in our DNA cheesy
Adanne, the bolded is actually not true. Yes, there are Nigerians out there using their home-grown wits to see hidden opportunities, but the majority of these "hidden opportunities" are simply devious means to circumvent rules and authorities. And that's where our reputation for gross disorderliness and lawlessness comes from. So... forgive me for not applauding the "survive or die" mind-set.

And while we are at it, isn't that the very cause of the horror show the writer witnessed - survive or die?

When I traveled to Abuja for the first time, I experienced major pyschological trauma because I was astounded that there was little or no traffic. I waited internally at what Lagos subjects it's inhabitants to on the daily. I am so used to Lagos madness that any period I don't encounter drama, I become jumpy and uneasy
I spent 5 months in Lagos after my youth service, then relocated to PH - and then I realized what just 5months in Lagos had done to my psyche. Insanity is self-defeating - you only realize you were insane after you get cured - which is why most Lagosians never realize how crazy that city is.

As for the BBN auditions, I am sincerely not surprised. My heart goes out to the seriously injured ones. But the sad truth is that they aren't any different from the rest of the thousands that went home unscathed - so empty-headed, ego and material driven, drunk on dreams of riches and fame yet totally clueless on how to acquire them - the "God-will-send-my-helper" crowd - and above all totally bereft of a moral compass. And we wonder why Nigeria is so messed up, why we have such horrible leaders... angry Just imagine, someone with an Australian visa - wtf are you doing in that jobless crowd?? And now you wailing on the internet, how much naira-worth of common-sense do you need just to realize how profoundly id!otic you have been??

And now I have just gotten angry over an online story.

Surely whoever buys the "raw unprocessed Vietnamese human hair" is still going to attach it to her own hair... grin so bros is not out of line by referring to it as "attachment". It just shows he is not yet grounded in the hair business, thus using the wrong terms. And he also clearly stated that he wishes to learn.

Starting and sustaining a business in Nigeria is herculean task.

Some of the challenges:

Workers
Electricity
Multiple/illegal taxation
Capital
Lack of experience

My candid pieces of advice:

Don't start a business with big money. Start small even if you have the money. Learn from biblical little beginning story.

Don't employ workers you cannot sack (family members, friends, etc)

Don't leave your business without close monitoring. Most Nigerian workers especially low cadre are thieves looking for what to steal

Don't eat from young business. Be prudent and reinvest any profit.

Don't expect (big) profit at early stage of the business

Don't obtain bank loan at early stage.

Don't treat your emploees like slaves

Don't owe salaries
Yet to start my own business, but this sounds like the best piece of advice yet. Totally mirrors my expectations. Start small; learn from mistakes; be ready for sacrifices; don't employ family; treat workers fairly; tell customers the truth (mostly) grin ; build your reputation.

N38million is a very huge sum, bro. You'd need 38,000 Nigerians to donate N1000 each to make up that amount... and forgive my pessimism but you can't get that from Nairaland. More than 75% of people here are actually looking for who to give them. Speaking of pessimism, do you know the percentage recovery rate of people diagnosed with leukemia? Worth looking into.

By the way, you should know better than to mock people for not donating or commenting.

Here's what I think: What Irene really needs is numbers, so ask people to SHARE. Please share to your social media networks. It's ok if you can't give, I know it's not easy for most of us, but please share and share as often as you can to as many as you can. Maybe, just maybe , we may be able to reach enough people whose widows' mite can help save Irene.
FamilyRe: . by kay9(m):
@Humchi, I'll send you 5k. Its not much, but i hope it helps.

Now, if you'll oblige me, i have a few home truths to tell you.

I strongly considered ignoring your thread, as I'm sure hundreds if not thousands of others have. Maybe you're lying, maybe you're not. But the sad truth is most people in this world simply don't care about others - and in a country as tough as naija, you can't really blame them. The few who do care are tired of being scammed - a favorite igbo proverb: all lizards are lying on their stomachs, how do we know the ones that truly have stomach-ache? So why am I not ignoring like everyone else? I don't know. Maybe I just wish we could all show a little kindness to each other in this sad, sad country...

Bros, i don't know what your situation is, so i will not tell you to stop asking for help if you see it as the only option. But I can tell you this, it is an open invitation for insults of all categories. Now folks are advising you to sell your phone. I was raised to have a very strong self-pride - I will break before I bend over. And I learnt very early to accept the fact that this life is not fair - some people have enough to waste and throw away, while others like myself have to grind it out the hard and painful way. The only thing left is what I intend to do about it.

It's decision time, Humchi: what do you intend to do about it?

By the way, I see you advised someone some weeks back to consider going into agriculture as a business; have you tried it yourself? Sometimes the very advice we give to others is what we should be giving to ourselves. Forget the excuses; that's just fear and - sorry to say - laziness. And fear and laziness won't put food on your table. Remember that.

Cheers.

Its a testament to your writing skills that even though the tale was rubbing me the wrong way at a point - I admit I skimmed a line or two - but I still read it to the end. There was something heartfelt about it all... heartfelt enough to make me go back and re-read the parts I skimmed. And personal... Definitely a whiff of something personal.

Finding your thread is quite possibly the best thing that has happened to me today. Truly impressed with your deconstruction of the average christian's mindset, and interestingly you did it without really giving away your own stand as either a theist, an atheist, or an agnostic. You don't get... We know! grin We know she was being sarcastic. Tell me in all honesty, would you??

Make una try go school. And by that, I mean study. She was obviously offended. Similar to the dumb DJ Solveig who asked the world best female footballer if she could twerk. Ask a stupid question, get an equally stupid answer. 2019 is already a huge upgrade on 2018, humans no longer tolerate rubbish.
Dude, please keep quiet.

If you've played even college-level football, you'd know the question is neither stupid nor insulting. Coaches ALWAYS meet their players in the changing room, especially for last pep talk before match starts and also during halftime - and lots of players are often in various levels of unclothedness at this time. So the question is very valid - at best, out of genuine curiosity; at worst, an attempt to tease at all the male nudity she gets to see.

And guess what, I personally take no offense at her answer, in fact I think its a funny, if a lil-over-the top, rejoinder. What ticks me the wrong way is your implying that the question was offensive... Biko, offensive how? Or the other commenter - whose moniker I already forgot - that said the question was gender-biased. I mean, how the flying fcck does one even reason that??

It was a sarcastic answer to a question she considered gender-biased. I think it was a simple "yes/no" question though.
Actually I think that's exactly the point: would you believe the man who says he was just being sarcastic if he answers "no, I enter my female players' changing room anytime I like because I pick them based on their breast sizes"?

And how exactly was the question "gender-biased"? Would you still consider it gender-biased if a male coach was asked that about his all-female team?

They are like cartoons.
Only they are far better than any 99% of the best movies any American can make.
They incorporate ideology, strategy, philosophy, science. Music. They are master pieces.

They way the Japanese merge this works into their culture is shocking. I have learned more from this works about life than I ever learned in church or from my parents.

Broooooo. I had to just quote you man. I always wonder why some people don't watch anime. They see it as kids something. Buh I've learnt a lot from them. Death note, psycho pass, code geass. etc.. Some deep stuffs man.
Anyways, I just say make I hail a fellow fan.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

The themes embedded in just this one anime... Let the dead stay dead. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The futility of war. "History" is rarely true. Unchecked ambition is as good as it is evil. Leadership comes with responsibility. Family and trusted friends are priceless. No matter the odds, never never EVER give up - fight with everything you have.

@chiamaka789022,
My dear, i feel your pain. There's always two sides to every story, but even without hearing your husband's side i already feel so angry. I don't know what else is going on in your home - i know from experience that family problems are RARELY the fault of just the husband or just the wife - but my gawd, there is simply no excuse for a man to treat his wife of 16 years this way.

Unfortunately i have a principle of not giving advice on family issues online, for 2 reasons:
1. I don't like judging people. I'm so imperfect that giving advice to others makes me feel like a hypocrite.
2. Only the person wearing the shoe knows where it really hurts, and what works for me may just make things worse for the next person.

But i sincerely don't think your husband will change even you give in and get pregnant again. I think he'll just find another excuse. As for the people here urging you to get pregnant, remember that few of them are married. Most don't know what it costs a woman to carry a baby to term and successfully give birth, and the rest don't even care.

Perhaps you should move your thread to the family section (or ask the Mods to do it for you); i think you'll get better and more mature replies there.

Good luck and God bless.

It is not as easy as that. The challenge is that the Brexit equation is now firmly in the House if Commons and there doesn't appear to be a majority for any of the options. The Labour Party would vote down any agreement as they would like to use it to force a general election. Is it not ironical that the rebels in the conservative who voted against the bill were both brexitiers and remainers. The brexities felt the proposal was not 'hard' enough while the remainers felt it was not 'soft' enough. Recall that ab initio most of the MPs were against Brexit. The situation is compounded by the arrogance of the EU creating the impression that the UK needs the EU more than the EU needs the UK. Maybe this crushing defeat will make the EU have a re-think. Finally if Theresa May had followed Trump's suggestion any emergent deal would have been similarly voted out.
Thank you, couldn't have said it better - especially the bolded.

Starting your site and putting my story straightaway. Hmmmm.

I have always given permission to use my story if you will credit me as the author. That will not change now. But when I get my own site you will have to stop.
@ the bolded, Not wise in my unsolicited opinion, especially when you are yet financial gains from your work.

"Borrow your characters" means permission to write a different story using your characters, i.e. fanfiction (but you probably knew that already). Re-post the story and credit you, fine, excellent in fact; but fanfiction on works that original author is yet to reap adequately from is not advisable. What happens if the fanfiction gains a higher following and commercial value? Would the fan accept to concede some of the financial returns to you? What if he/she outrightly refuses? On the flip side, what if it turns readers away from your original works? Such situations are the reason even established authors are totally against fanfiction.

Look, I know how it all sounds, but I'd advise you think it through before you okay this one. Just my 2 cents.
