koastar: @Phatom23, Nigeria has all the right to vote for a no-fly zone resolution. Gaddafi is a madman who does things only for his interest. The man that wants to rule Africa and is against the unity of Nigeria saying we should divide along religious line. If not that he is daft, he should have been told by his foriegn minister or adviser that religion (christians and muslims) cut across every region in Nigeria. The same man that called his own people cockroaches and rats and use both land and arial attacks on harmless Libyans just because they are protesting peacefully, you say a vote for a no-fly resolution is wrong? I think you should be sure of what you say before someone starts thinking you think like Gaddafi himself- dictator and no respecter of human lives and rights thanks for being one of the few people to realise this is in nigeria's interest. |

cap28: the argument about removing a tyrant does not wash with anyone who has an understanding of the US/UK's foreign policy in the middle east, africa and latin america.
Up and down the middle east you have had US backed tyrants who have been very comfortably propped up by the US and britain, shall we have a look at them?
mubarak - propped up by US military aid to the tune of $1 billion dollars a year
ben ali - propped up by the french who even tried to keep him in office despite an uprising against him by the people, the french even went as far as shipping arms to help him crush the civillian uprising against him but it was so overwhelming for him that he fled.
the saudi royal family - one of the most brutal and murderous regimes in the middle east - propped up with US arms for over 50 years, they even deployed troops to bahrain to crush the bahraini uprising - up till now no calls for military intervention or sanctions from the US/UK.
plus numerous african dictatorships who receive millions of dollars in military aid in order to keep them in office - including the nigerian govt.
Therefore the idea that Gadaffi is a dangerous tyrant who needs to be dislodged for brutalising his own people is quite frankly a sick joke.
America and britain create, impose and prop up these dicatators, the only time the dictators become a problem is when they stop following instructions from washington and london - then and only then do you start hearing calls for their removal.
Mobutu an american backed dictator was allowed to brutalise his people steal Zaire's vast wealth and open up Zaire for american, belgian and british mining companies to ra.pe repeatedly - how come no one called for his removal?
the late Omar Bongo of equatorial guinea ra.ped his country in collaboration with french oil companies elf for 42 yrs how come there was no massive outcry to get rid of him?
But along comes gadaffi who decides that he wont allow the west to dictate all the terms of engagement of oil and gas contracts now he becomes the terrible tyrant - by the way the desire to get rid of gadaffi by america and britain did not start today - google the various attempts by british intelligence to assassinate gadaffi and you will find out that this has been an ongoing vendetta against him and his regime- mainly for his countries vast oil reserves but also to consolidate the US's geopolitical control over the region.
I can assure you that britain and america have nothing good in store for libya, read britain's history regarding the middle east, read about how they got rid of mossadek of iran, read about how the americans backed another brutal dictator the shah of iran who collaborated with america to steal his country's resources like our nigerian leaders are currently doing then you will start to see the truth.
by the way can you tell me why america and britain are not calling for the bahraini and saudi govts monarchs to be prosecuted before the international criminal court for authorising the shooting of unarmed protesters by saudi troops ?
the hypocrisy, treachery, and pure evil of america and europe is so terrible its beyond human comprehension. I already told you I dont care who removes him as long as he's removed. There are no white knights here as the US and every party here have something to gain. But the fact still remains that Ghadaffi and so many other tyrants need to be removed. You will be amazed at the effect removing him will have on the tenure of so many other tyrants. If you listen to the news, they all prop each other up. thats why chavez is trying to mediate and their are unconfirmed reports of chadian and even zimbabwean(unconfirmed could be propaganda) troops there. (There were definitely zimbabwean weapons in ivory coast). |

cap28: If Gadaffi goes, his replacement will be far worse, he did a lot for his people, far more than any other african leader, america and britain will move in and appropriate the wealth of libya in collaboration with their oil companies, libya will turn into another nigeria, the imf will begin implementing neo liberal economic reforms which will take libya backwards instead of forwards, the big losers in this whole charade will be the libyan people, if they think they are suffering now let them wait until the oil companies start controlling libya's economic policy. this sir, is an animal farm argument. "Let's not remove the tyrants because the Humans Might come back and put us in slavery". Now where have I heard that before? Mugabe, Mobutu: The West wants to colonize us and I am the only one standing between you and that (paraphrasing comments over the years). Isaias (Eritrea): Ethiopia wants to colonize us and I am the only one standing between you and that (paraphrasing comments over the years). Chavez: The US wants to enslave us and I am the only one standing between you and that (paraphrasing comments over the years). that is the perpetual argument of tyrants. they seek to delude you into seeing them as the sole protectors. thats bull. try democracy there and see what happens. let libya devolve into autonomous divisions (on tribal basis) with a central government with shared functions and see the Maghreb Arabs leap ahead of their cousins in Saudi and the rest. |

sakozi has a hidden agenda in this push for intervention, otherwise ,can you explain his docile position on ivory coast? Definitely there are no white knights anywhere. However, there is still an obvious truth. Ghadaffi Needs to go. You can talk geopolitics till the face turns blue, but it still does not change the fact that he bombed his people and his family rules without giving others a chance to fulfil their potentials. he's a tyrant and please stop apologising for tyrannical nepotic killers. As for Ivory Coast, you dont expect the UN to invade that place to remove him. If anyone should do that, it should be ECOWAS. Jacob Zuma, Mugabe and all the other guys secretly propping up Gbagbo are to blame. They keep opposing a military option to satisfy their own interests. Hopefully the PFN rebels will get closer to Abidjan and remove that i.d.i.o.t once and for all. Sarkozy may have a hidden agenda there (the french always have) but the key issue is that there is always apathy towards sub-saharan africa. thats why rwanda happened. thats why congo rapes happened. thats why sierra leone and liberia went on for so long. |

1025: balotelli is so useless as a thread topic is attractive but if balotelli is a good example of uselessness, i want to be a useless person for life. some useful ppl on this nairaland and nigeria as a whole are more useless than balotelli. it takes a useless person to find another. those who call others useless must first compare and contrast to be sure before mentioning it. that u have a laptop or access to a computer where u can type from at will does not make u useful. if time is not taken, most of us calling others useless are black sheeps of their various families. like i said, i want to be as useless as balotelli. the follishness of a nigerian man makes him think that every man is born with the same type of reasoning. laughing is a thing of choice. no matter how u look at football, it is a preofessional business where ppl work for others to be paid. even inside our churches and mosques, some pastors and imams do not laugh. among the high way robbers and dare devil criminals some laugh even at the crime scene. mr. usefulness, u can do better than this or u can start by telling us those things that makes u useful. you obviously have issues. You could have responded logically without insults. About Balotelli: He doesnt take pleasure in what he does. its mechanical. he takes no joy in the goals he scores. he gets into unneeded spats with everyone. He overly aggressive like a teenager. He is the worst employee a manager will dream of (individual star performer but with very poor social skills and hated by a lot of people). About Me: I keep your country running by working for a company that supplies the lifeblood on which your country runs. my skills support and drive that objective. I am useful and my pocket reflects that fact massively on a regular monthly basis. About You: Your goal is to be useless. You worship people like balotelli because of his paycheck. That is the major Nigerian illness. You worship any idiot with money. You actually believe only useless people can identify each other? thats another dumb statement. In the real world, we know the people to depend on and we know the useless ones. |

Finally. About time for the pancake faced dictator to get whipped. If his army can be held for so long by poorly armed civilians, I expect less of that socalled elite army when they get bombed. Hope its done quickly and soon. getting tired of people making cases for dictators. Hope he's toppled. there can be no way to excuse a man ruling for 41 years. Time to go. Sun of god: When are the UN going to intervene in Bahrain, Saudi, Yemen, Oman, Algeria, etc?
Anyway, the hypocritical nature of the UN/West is there for all to see.
Arab nations have in their stupidity been turned against one another.
I dont think a regional war can be ruled out.
So the UN want us to believe that 'Lebanon' lead the way. Who fell for that one?
Most of these nations that want to bomb Libya are indebted to it.
The problem they have now is that unlike other 'Muslim' countries they have invaded this wont be straightforward.
Gaddafi still has support inside Libya - Therefore Gadaffi still has the upper hand.
The only mistake he has made to date is offering up his WMD's - big mistake.
For that reason he is being 'Hussled' now by the west.
You wont see the UN/West threatening to invade Iran/North Korea anytime soon because they are armed to defend themselves.
As for France - They are clearly vulnerable to an attack on their Nuclear facilities. They need to hope this does not back fire on them.
Finally, how Iran alligns itself is going to be key. Israel know this and will eventually have to fight the war that has been prolonged for too long with the 'Muslim' middle east. Iran will do the sensible thing and stay out of a pounding. They can claim to be strong but they definitely are not strong enough to take on NATO. they'll get owned. No ones invading Iran because there's no legitimate reason for it right now. However GHADAFFI KILLED HIS PEOPLE WITH CANNONS, BOMBS AND MERCENARIES. H e needs to go.
I am not a supporter of Gaddafi; but I think the UN is somehow partial here; if a no-fly zone is passed on Libya SKY; then similar thing should be done in places like:- (1) Saudi Arabia---> for killing the Shia Moslem's protesting for their right (2) Bahrain -----> for inviting the Saudi & UAE military to stop the same protest that is going on right now in Libya (3) Yemen----> for killing the Shia moslem protesting for their right (4) Israel----> for killing innocent and defend-less Palestine who are crying daily for their right to normal life (5) Somalia ------> where Alshaba militants are killing people (6) Ivory Coast -----> where Laurent Gbagbo is killing people for an election that he lost. The question is why didnt the western-power raised a resolution to intervene in the following crises above, why!!! (1) Saudi Arabia -----> is the biggest supplier of oil to the west; so her government weather good or bad can do any thing (2) Bahrain -----> supplies oil to the west and also host the US military base (3) Yemen ------> No oil to gain; so there`s no need to send their forces there; so they are free to die like the Rwandans (4) Israel----> US best friend in the mid-east; there fore the west decided to close their eyes to their crimes against humanity (5) Somalia ------>No oil to gain; so there`s no need to send their forces there; so they are free to die like the Rwandans (6) Ivory Coast -----> Cocoa can be gotten from another country; so No oil to gain; so there`s no need to send their forces there; so they are free to die like the Rwandans so with the above; i feel their interest is Libya oil so that companies like TOTAL; BP; STATOIL will control oil blocks there. DIALOGUE IS STILL THE BEST OPTION; LET GADDAFFI AND THE REPELS HOLD TALKS ORGANISED BY THE UN.
One dictator at a time please. |

cap28: gadaffi is not the first person to campaign for nigeria's breakup, and anyway nigeria is not a united country and is split along ethnic lines therefore gadaffi's statement was not wrong.
i dont see what nigeria stands to gain from gadaffi's removal, the nigerian govt should remember that less than 3 months ago these western leaders were queueing up to beg for oil contracts frm gadaffi and his son, today however they want to replace him with a puppet who will give them freer access to even cheaper oil contracts, does the nigerian govt think this can not happen to them? let them keep dreaming.
let any incoming administration decide to carry on awarding oil and gas contracts to china and see how long they will remain in office before a "revolution" will sweep through nigeria and topple it. It is on record that he keeps funding brigands in west africa including Foday Sankoh, Dauda Jammeh, Deby in Chad(Chad is more or less a libyan satellite) and so many other potentates. That guy is a one man TMF (Tyrant Monetary Fund). He needs to go for us to have peace. There are even unconfirmed reports that he/pple close to him have fingers in the unrest in the north. I know he likes acting like "Le Professional Footballer" but his aloofness is very irritating. If he was a bit more friendly, I am sure his life would be easier. cap28: moral world?? is that america and britain by any chance, the nations who have armed israel to the teeth and stood by and watched israel steal more and more palestinian land and murder palestinians who dare to oppose this tyranny? is this also the same moral world who stood by and did absolutely nothing when 1 million tutsis were murdered in rwanda in 1994 or is it the same moral world that are strafing men women and children in iraq, afghanistan as we speak? Or is it the same moral world that have declared war on libya under the pretext that they need to protect libyan civillians while keeping absolutely mute about the fact that saudi arabia deployed troops to bahrain who have shot and killed civillian protesters?
As i said in an earlier post any protest carried out in nigeria will not be backed by the UK or US because the current leadership in nigeria are doing everything the west wants, notice how they even voted in support of the invasion of libya, they are a puppet govt and will never challenge america or britain. They voted the way any sensible nigerian should(especially considering the dictator in question has canvassed Nigerian breakup for a while. ). Who cares what the west wants, it is in Nigeria's interest that Ghadaffi be gone. It is in our selfish interest that he be gone and if all we have to do is say yes, then so be it. |
