Decallionaire: A Twitter user identified as Sean Kessie on Wednesday revealed a conversation between some ladies who alleged that their female friend was having a secret affair with her boyfriend's flatmate. The boyfriend is said to be working in a popular bank in Marian area of Calabar.
Here are screenshots of the viral tweet. What do you make of this?
Metrix147: Prophet Joshua Arogun who predicted the release of former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, and victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 general election has again insisted that Buhari’s successor is a former governor from the South who was held in prison and from all indications, he is referring to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, ABN TV learnt.
Arogun, who is the General Overseer of Light of the World International Church, Lagos, stated this on Sunday during the church’s ministration service.
He said most people’s hearts has become so hardened that they question prophecies. He also said his obligation is to release God’s revelations to him with no personal feelings attached to it.
“Whenever I pray and get revelations on the polity of Nigeria, I find it difficult to tell my members because of it’s sensitivity. But because I am not accountable to humans but God, I have a duty to do as directed in spirit. Some months ago, I got a revelation that a former governor from the south who was in prison will be the next president of this country. I remember feeling very reluctant delivering that message but I had to do the will of the Father. While we were praying this morning, the same message came again. There is this connection I keep seeing: former governor- prison-president and he is from the South.
“May God’s will be done and May His will be favourable to mankind.” He prayed
Recall that on March 1, Prophet Joshua had made controversial revelations during his church service when he said, “I am a prophet of God and by the grace of God, anything the Lord tells us comes to pass because we hear from Him; we don’t hear from men. We don’t rely on public opinion for prophesies. We are not afraid of what people will say when such prophesies are given to us to tell the people. When we hear from the Lord, we tell people no matter how it is interpreted. It is left for people to take it.
“Before the 2015 election, God told me that Buhari would win; And God told me a lot of things about Buhari. It is He that anointed him to be the president and there is no questions about that. No one can change it. The people can hate him: the people can reject him but God has ordained him, and there is something about God. When He says that you would be this, no man can change it. He does what pleases Him
“I got a revelation about Nigeria’s political dynamics in the next general election. I saw a man in Prison and this man has been a former Governor from the South East taking over from President Buhari. There is absolutely nothing one can do about someone’s destiny especially when sanctioned by God. Everything that happens in life is for a reason. I saw renewed alliances among the political class and across the political parties and I saw this country reuniting more than it has ever done before. God loves Nigeria so much. Nigeria is a big country, and is blessed with human and natural resources.” He said.

PrimadonnaO: Kindly clarify your main points @OP, because it would seem you're speaking from both sides of your mouth.
Did you say your mum mistreated her maids, too?
The girl in the initial story, yes she obviously lacked tact for refusing to clean the house when she was asked. But if we have to be objective here, would it have been so hard for them to treat her like a guest on the first day? The aunt simply isn't a good person. The girl in the story was childish and entitled, but she'd have learnt. If her refusal to clean on day one was what set the tone for her maltreatment, then her aunt who's a pastor's wife is such an unforgiving person.
The children of the house will always have more privileges than the non-biological children, but it doesn't have to spell ill treatment for those kids.
Growing up, my cousins lived with us. The last of them moved out when I was 13... They are all married or abroad right now. My oldest bro was 18. So, you see, they lived us, with my mum raising them for nearly 18 years. Some were brought in as infants. They were all way older than even my eldest sibling. My mum having her own children changed nothing. Yes, they did more chores (probably because they were older), but we did chores, too. They sent us on errands without restraints. These cousins could beat us up or punish us when we did wrong stuff and we dared not report to my mum, because it would make no difference. Instead, she'll add to the beating. My cousins were that free. Two of my male cousins were nicknamed "bulldozers" because they could eat up a whole pot of food in two seconds. Our food! Free access to the kitchen. To eat to their very fill. Their visitors were free to visit. The could take us out on special occasions without thinking twice about it.
So yes, even if kids aren't your biological children, an inability to love them and treat them with kindness and consideration is wickedness. It's not a natural phenomenon that should be sucked up.
Well said. I like the fact that your mum did not discriminate knowing full well that you all are cousins. She was very wise in human management.
Some women can be very mean to their relatives and put them to work like they are in a sweat shop. I strongly suspect that this mean behavior towards relatives and non-relative has to do with the monthly PMS cycle.
PMS is one of the top 5 causes of divorce according to relationship experts. Some men have had to contend with dodging flying TV remote controls, wine glasses, etc, thrown by these cranky girlfriends and spouses. Huh?!
importexpert: For many people, their work life and personal life are two worlds that they cannot seem to coordinate successfully. This is why many people have succeeded in one and failed at the other. There’s more to life than a successful career. But then also, what is life without an opportunity to pursue your goals and dreams? For this reason, it is important that you know how to balance your personal life and work life. Below are five smart tips to help you balance your personal life and work life.
1. Practice time management: Time is a very scarce commodity. Knowing how to manage it can help you strike a healthy balance between your work and life. Rather than start a day without a clear plan, it is better to schedule your time to fit these two parts of your life. To do this, you need to schedule particular days that you will meet with your family, friends and loved ones out of your busy schedule. Also, you can map out a certain time of the day or days of the week when you will focus on your work without distractions. When you make these plans, do your best to stick to them. Resolve not to break them in as much as it is within your power.
2. Identify and discard what drains you: There are certain activities that drain you of your efforts (mental and physical) and also waste your time. It may be the unnecessary banter with colleagues or time spent on the social media. Whatever they may be, you need to identify these time and energy wasters and do away with them. When you do this, you will free up more time to concentrate on your job which can help you finish the day’s task on time. This is will in turn free up more time for you to enjoy your personal life.
3. Create boundaries: Compartmentalize your life. In this context, you can broadly categorize your life into work life and personal life. To be able to succeed at one without failing at the other, you need to create boundaries and stick to it. For instance, you may have to always remind yourself to finish up your work in the office rather than take it home. Doing this will help you give all your attention to your personal life, friends and family. It will help you to truly unwind from stress. Likewise, you need to give your job the full concentration it deserves at work rather than let your attention wander unnecessarily. Recognize the time you have allotted for your work life and your personal life and adhere to it. Avoid any situation that may warrant any overlapping.
4. Learn to say no: It can be tempting to accept any extra work so as to be seen as a nice colleague or a hardworking subordinate. But if you really want to enjoy your work and personal life, you need to learn to say “no”. No law makes it compulsory to say yes whenever a request for more hours is made. In as much you fulfill your responsibilities, you can always say “no” when extra work is pushed to your desk. Sometimes, it’s not about working hard; it’s about knowing when you are being stretched and when you need to refuel. So, once you are asked if you are willing to do more tasks than your job description, learn to say “no” without feeling bad about it. Your health and personal life counts too!
5. Stay connected: Going through whole day without contact with someone outside of your workplace can make your day feel dull. If you have a partner, spouse or loved ones, you can stay in touch with them at intervals when you are less busy at work. For instance, your break time can be a good time to make a voice or video call to them. You can send text message in between work time to know how they are doing and remind them that they mean a lot to you. It will warm their heart and yours when you take actions like this. Also, it can help you relax better and return back to work with a more focused attention.
Summary
You can enjoy the best of both your work life and personal life. There is no reason to succeed at one at the expense of the other. Once you define your priorities and know how to manage your time effectively, you will achieve mastery in balancing your personal life and your work life.
ICMarkets is the broker. Very good broker... Withdrawal and deposit so apt. And I use their no spread mt4
Wow... no spread mt4! Thanks a lot 'Toks. I'll check them out and see how to register a live account with them. I'll keep in touch if I have any updates to ask or share with you.
Just be prepared to buy at 15k cos I see it crashing to that point... Yes it may rally up again but that seems to be the definite turning point.
@'Toks
Ah! You came back online.
Kindly respond to this when you have the time:
First off, I'd like you to kindly let me know what MT4 broker you're using for your crypto trading and technical analysis in the video?
Second, yeah, in May 2021 an analyst even said the drop could reach below 10k before correction.
I had to quickly inform my younger bruv (who lives in Manchester with his spouse and kids) to convert the B.TC he has held for a few years now to U.SDT in his wallet when the price fell below 50k from 63k (due to Elon Musk's comments and the Chinese policy on cryptos).
My younger brother doesn't trade cryptos, or know anything about technical analysis of charts and would have lost more of the value of his B.TC if I hadn't informed him of the drop in price on time.
Your videos have given more insights to get ready for the 14k to 15k or so reversal levels because I've also stayed off cryptos trading and only believe in HODL... and then the comments made by some experts about the lack of "fundamentals" backing B.TC unlike the stocks and fx markets for instance.
Toks2008: Do you know that once you are a guy above 30 and you are still very single without a fiancee or you are a lady above 25 and still not engaged then there is a higher probability that you may remain that way for another couple of years?
I know you may not agree to this but the truth is that the higher you get in age from that point on the more careful you want to be and that is where the real problem sets in...."TRYING TO BE CAREFUL"
The honest truth is that at this stage, you need to free your mind and think less of making any mistake and in fact you need to rid your mind of any panic and be yourself....in other words, don't search because those who search usually make mistakes but those who just live their lives usually find that special person when and where they least expect.
So if you are a guy above 30 or a lady above 25 and single, let's discuss about business, romance and life in general. Though this is not a dating or meet up thread but you are very free to make friends with anyone... Remember that it is very difficult to come across this set of single guys and ladies out there as they are usually very busy, focused and mostly indoor so let's make good use of this platform to interact.
I know this is a faceless forum and i know some people below this age group will try to derail the thread but i will appreciate if such group will maintain a status quo and allow only single guys of 30 yrs and above as well as single ladies of 25yrs and above. *Mods please note that this is not a dating or meet up thread hence should not be moved to dating and meet up zone.
I was inundated by personal messages from people who found the post very insightful and helpful - Thanks to all of you. However, there are some people who wanted to know from the side of a lady above 30 how Nigerian brothers can better understand their ladies above 30 in relationships.
These are my personal opinions (but I was there too):
1. Don't Take Advantage Of Them: Ladies mature faster and ready to be wives and mothers at 19yrs, on the other hand economic hardship in Nigeria has moved the eligibility of most bachelors to above 30, as they struggle with unemployment and financial stability. Religious houses (specially churches) cash in on this to draw members teasing ladies that husbands are scarce. In fact, some make it look like being a single lady is a problem, a curse, and an epidemic. Unfortunately, most ladies buy this argument & become desperate, competing for the few 'scarce husbands' rather than pursue other goals. The truth is that it's better to marry at 38yrs to a responsible man and have a peaceful, mature family than rushing in at 23 with an immature boy, living in hell and abuse afterwards. Not all ladies above 30 are desperate to marry just any man. They simply want to settle down with a responsible man. Respect that & prove yourself!
2. Respect Her Time & Schedule Too: You can no longer date a responsible woman above 30 like your under-20 college sweetheart expecting her to come over to your house every weekend to cook, clean your house, and wash your clothes. At above 30+ most ladies are already working, busy and stressed out too. Some are at management positions, doing well financially too. You have to treat them with respect as partners not as your 'little girl'. You cannot shout on them or boss them around because you are a man or demand they be by your side 16hrs a day. You can't be disrespecting them in the public, pinching and slapping their behind on the streets. They are no longer teenagers!
3. It's Not About S=ex: At above 30, bones are becoming stiff. The body is no longer as flexible as that of the teenagers and under 20s, energy is wearing out too. You cannot expect to make love to her 5 times a day turning her in 7 different positions just to fulfill your fantasy at the expense of her health as you did your little girlfriend in school. Give her a break! Appreciate and understand that she may say 'No' sometimes and resist being used to experiment your new styles. It doesn't mean she's stubborn. She's mindful of her health and well-being.
4. They know What They Want: At above 30, most ladies might have been in previous relationships. They might have tasted other men and have basis for comparison. Therefore, they know when you are good or or bad in what you do. Don't take it as a criticism when they make inputs to help make the relationship better even when they try to compare you to their Exs. I know it's annoying but please understand, and pay attention to her suggestions not the man she used in comparison. We like men who listen to us. , Arrogant man is a turnoff!
5. She May Not Be A Feminist: People who say a lot have a lot to say. Sometimes it's from wealth of life experiences, though we may misinterpret them as nagging or being talkative. We learn a lot from women who teach and talk too. Except for people who argue blindly on issues they know nothing about, a lady above 30 is often educated, has life experiences, and knowledge she would like to share too. She's not argumentative, or being opinionated when she airs her views in a discussion. You may disagree with her passions but please don't shut her up, try to lord it over her or call her a 'Feminist' (if she's not) simply because she airs her views and feel passionate about them. She sees herself as a partner and you treat her like a housegirl. It hurts when you do that! As a man control the argument and close it off when it begins to drag & derail!
6. Don't Criticize Her With Her Past Mistakes: She definitely has a past, sometime not too rosy. Don't keep bringing it up, or keep using it to bring her down. Yes! Perhaps she failed in some things/relationships, perhaps married before, perhaps has a baby, perhaps had abortion as a teenager or in college, perhaps slept with a boss or pastor, etc AND SO WHAT! Mary Magdalene did yet Jesus kept her as best friend! She shared them with you to have a closure & feel close to you and not for you to bring them up and use them to judge her when you quarrel. Please never ever call a woman 'Ashewo' (prostitute). This is what you men say that hurt women most. She did what she did out of love or desperation. It's a past! Now it's all about you, give her a chance to love you.
7. Don't Waste Her Time: Finally age is not on her side; body clock is ticking, body parts have started sagging, maternal instincts have kicked in. She wants to settle down and may be impatient when you want to date her for another 3 years without taking a decision. If you don't want her for keeps please don't waste her time either. Please 6 months is enough time to decide if you want her as your wife or not.
Remember if you marry a good woman above 30 you got a Jewel! You marry a woman with maturity to handle marital challenges and mostly likely a woman most likely to bring something to the table to help both of you build a life of your dreams together.
May This Year Be A Your Year of Proposal, Marriages, Childbirths and Career Breakthroughs!!!
Rozcol: Things that were freely given should never be returned, its against the rules "Spinsters Rule" Also never keep a gift from a boyfriend the way he gave you,be smart to immediately resell it and replace it with another one with some flimsy excuse. "Just Be Smart"
It's wrong to resell a tangible gift that a male partner has given to his female lover so soon. There's a reason why! It's deeply embeded in the male psyche.

There's nothing wrong with dating someone you meet on the internet. Meeting somebody over the internet is not any different from meeting somebody in the club, sports meet, gym, wedding, library etc. You can meet a psycho anywhere including even in the church.
The main thing is to always look before you leap. Take your time and get to know the person very well
dre11: “I almost fainted when I read the text. It was my daughter telling him ‘mummy has discovered I’m pregnant and you know the baby is your own, what do we do?’”
One way to improve reading comprehension is to choose books you can immediately apply. Putting the ideas you read into action is one of the best ways to secure them in your mind. Practice is a very effective form of learning.
Choosing a book that you can use also provides a strong incentive to pay attention and remember the material. That’s particularly true when something important hangs in the balance. If you’re starting a business, for example, then you have a lot of motivation to get everything you can out of the sales book you’re reading. Similarly, someone who works in biology might read The Origin of Species more carefully than a random reader because it connects directly to their daily work.
Of course, not every book is a practical, how-to guide that you can apply immediately, and that's fine. You can find wisdom in many different books. But I do find that I'm more likely to remember books that are relevant to my daily life.
3. Create Searchable Notes Keep notes on what you read. You can do this however you like. It doesn't need to be a big production or a complicated system. Just do something to emphasize the important points and passages.
I do this in different ways depending on the format I'm consuming. I highlight passages when reading on Kindle. I type out interesting quotes as I listen to audiobooks. I dog-ear pages and transcribe notes when reading a print book.
But here's the real key: store your notes in a searchable format.
There is no need to leave the task of reading comprehension solely up to your memory. I keep my notes in Evernote. I prefer Evernote over other options because 1) it is instantly searchable, 2) it is easy to use across multiple devices, and 3) you can create and save notes even when you're not connected to the internet.
I get my notes into Evernote in three ways:
I. Audiobook: I create a new Evernote file for each book and then type my notes directly into that file as I listen.
II. Ebook: I highlight passages on my Kindle Paperwhite and use a program called Clippings to export all of my Kindle highlights directly into Evernote. Then, I add a summary of the book and any additional thoughts before posting it to my book summaries page.
III. Print: Similar to my audiobook strategy, I type my notes as I read. If I come across a longer passage I want to transcribe, I place the book on a book stand as I type. (Typing notes while reading a print book can be annoying because you are always putting the book down and picking it back up, but this is the best solution I've found.)
Of course, your notes don't have to be digital to be “searchable.” For example, you can use Post-It Notes to tag certain pages for future reference. As another option, Ryan Holiday suggests storing each note on an index card and categorizing them by the topic or book.
The core idea is the same: Keeping searchable notes is essential for returning to ideas easily. An idea is only useful if you can find it when you need it.
This was first posted on my Dating Drills' thread (https://www.nairaland.com/2893475/dating-drills-guys-only/207#71255541 ) as a privileged info to those who follow me therein but staying true to my life's goal of moulding minds , empowering lives and bringing glory to God therewith, I decided to create a special thread for it here.
Hopefully, this would distroy the faulty foundation we had about books, inculcate the culture of books into all minds, librates you all from the African mentality of not appreciating the beauty of books and open your minds' eyes to the power/fun/wealth/wisdom and eternal grace books bring.
For he is immortal that ravel in the aura of books.... Don.
We would discuss 1. The benefits of Books 2. Unravel why Africans don't like books 3. And then recommend some timeless books that can make reading fun, remove the laborious airs associated with books , improve your reading , assimilation and retention speed thereby making you well rounded and grounded
READING IS REALLY FUN!
BENEFITS OF READING
1. It makes you stand out in your chosen field or in life generally. You become an authority/consultant in your world. Men seek to hear you speak like Solomon, wisdom drips off your lips as hearts get elated, minds challenged and lifted, life impacted and destinies remolded
2. You Become creative with mountain of ideas to draw from as John C. Maxwell, in How successful people think, puts it. creativity is nothing but the aggregation of knowledge that helps you postulate a new wine or improve on an existing one( Don)
3. Reading keeps you young because it exercises the mind. To grow muscles, we hit the gym but to grow our mental muscles, we must read books! As you read, you feed the mind which in turn keeps you young.
He is old, no matter how young, that takes no pleasure in the blessed worlds of books ( Don)
4. Books help you to proffer solutions to the numerous challenges of life as they pop up. Knowledge does not exist in space. Even science fiction draws inspiration from reality. And what was science fiction yesterday, quickly transforms into reality today! To think outside the box, you must know what the box contains first. The only way to do that? Well you already know.
5. It makes you a Leader. A leader is not one that ocupies an office, a leader is one who has answers to the WHY Question while every other person is battling with the HOW question. Readers are Leaders in all sphere of human endeavours. They are able to see into the future and guide men into it gallantly. They are always one step ahead of the game.
6. Books are the best ways to tap into and rob minds with men you might never meet. Understand their ways and sharpen your blades.
7. They make an author out of you whether you were born for it or not. Blessed with a sonorous gift of the gab, you can't but dazzled in glitz and glamour.
8. Excel in life: you tend to Ace all the lil huddles education throws your way.
9. Win friends, influence people and have a very Broad picture of the world.
10. You become transgenerational like Daniel in the Bible that served in 4 regimes.. " I Daniel understood by the books... "
KosiGee: I am one of those who said so. Abba Kyari wasn’t there as a friend. He is keeping tab on him and ‘young money men’.
He understands the environment and his job and employing every resources at his disposal to be on top of his game. You’ll have to give it to him. He is doing his job, infiltrating every radius of the circles even getting to the dots at the centre.
Obi and his mates will be foolish to trust him. Abba Kyari seems like one individual that will drink alcohol or eat pork with you to know what makes you tick.
He rough handled me on my first visit to his house, claims to want a serious relationship. Can he really be serious about being serious or he is just a play boy?
So I met this guy about two weeks ago close to my street. He calls but I hardly pick. Eventually, I picked and he asked if he could pick me after work and we hangout. I accepted. He picked me up after work last week Friday. He was quite interesting and funny, he talked freely like he had known me for years but he was really so touchy, I had barely spent 5 minutes in the car and he was already touching my shoulder and even when we were inside the bar, he tried tickling me, at a point, he put his hands close to my waist, I removed it. We both discussed if we had someone we are currently seeing, I am not seeing anyone which is the truth, he said there is an Ex but they just have sex and she has her own relationship. When he was dropping me off, he asked for a close hug, I hugged him and he wanted to pull me closer and kiss. I broke free and got down. He said I am not nice.
Well, we met again on Monday, I took just water intentionally. This time I minded the distance between us. He wanted to see again on Tuesday, I declined. Then at work yesterday, he asked to see after closing. I told him he can come briefly to my work and we can talk a bit in the car and part ways. He said he would like to host me at his house instead, I declined.
Anyway, he came, I got in and he started driving and saying, I will know his house today and besides his phone battery his low. My mood changed immediately and he tried to guilt trip me and said okay should we stop on the road and get a place to charge his phone. I then told him to continue driving to his house. He stopped on the way and got snacks. We got into his house. It was nice and neat.
Then we were watching a movie, he sat down and placed my leg on his, I was cool with this. Then he made moves to kiss and I declined and pulled away. All of a sudden, he started breathing fast, hugged me so tight and kissed me despite I kept pulling away and didn't kiss back. I am weak when it comes to my Bosom, then he got there and gave me the roughest and painful squeezing I have ever experienced. I haven't been with any man in about 7 months now, I am single and It's hard for me to do a little thing as even kissing randomly. So he got me there when he got to my bosom but it took only just few seconds to snap out. He continued panting and begging for me to reciprocate, he is so hard and hasn't felt this way in a while.
I told him I don't want this, he went in frustrated, stamping his feet, I tot he had agreed, only for him to come back naked and saying okay, he has heard no sex and "I don't want to force you", so he asked for a dry hump and wanted me to turn my back. I didn't. He still kept breathing hard, like he wont survive the next minute. Then he started begging for a Mouth Action. I declined and told him I wasn't up for that. I tried pulling, away and getting angry. He became even more aggressive, removed the hands I used to protect my chest and forced his way into my bra. It was a struggle and then back to begging till I made it clear in a thunder voice for him to stop and take me home.
Then he agreed, wore his cloths and kept complaining that I don't know what I have caused and he wont be himself. We left his house and he tried stopping at a Pharmacist and said he needs to get ibuprofen, then he didn't stop again and just continued driving.
This morning, he is apologizing and repeating the things he said when we got to his house that he wants something serious with me and he wants us to start something and want it to work out. He asked to come see me at work today but I declined. With this red flags, is there a possibility that he is truly serious like he said? Or he is just doing the usual lies to get the cookie and go away. He has a nice ride and nice house, I suspect he may have girls around him. My concern isn't all these, I just want to be with a serious man who is in for commitment and not just sex.
He rough handled me on my first visit to his house, can he be sincere about wanting to be serious?
achimotan: Sad story. But OP ,she is a Ghanaian as well cos she was born to a Ghanaian mother and has lived all her life in Ghana and has a Ghanaian passport as well. The intriguing thing for me was her agreeing to meet her kidnappers who had sent her threatening text messages
A simple DNA forensic test would have unraveled the identity of those rapists! Gosh! Is this too much to implement?
emefav: Late last night, a lady shared the story of how she saved female students sexually assaulted by students of Falomo Senior High. The male students had just finished their final year exams and were leaving their school premises when they saw the female students who were also leaving their school premises at the same time.
The boys who were excited that they were done with secondary school, decided that the best way to express their joy was to molest the girls in broad daylight. The boys who were armed with scissors, cornered some of the girls, ripped their skirt with the scissor, pushed them to the floor, pulled their trousers mid length and then climbed on the girls. Some of their colleagues surrounded them and cheered them on.
It took the intervention of some of the residents of the area, to stop the boys from further molesting the girls. The girls who were frightened to go home, were escorted to the bus stop by some able bodied men in the area.
Here's Michael Mathew's post on the incident;
"Dear Reader, I write this incidence with lots of mortification and great concern for what the next generation will be like in Nigeria if we do not quickly get to work repairing and paying them attention. Our elders have led their lives and we the generation who follow the baby boomers must hunker down and correct the ills in our back yards and community. It's a common saying that evil prevails when good men do nothing. Today the 3rd of May 2017, I almost saw this evil happen. 'Almost' because I got so moved in my spirit with great indignation that I decided to speak up.
I am in my office about 4pm waiting for my driver to bring my older son from school so we can get home on time to prepare the younger one for his common entrance exams into secondary school coming up in two weeks. I called the driver and he said he was around and as I leave my nieces office upstairs, I hear a lot of shouting and commotion outside our office. I then ask the receptionist what it was about and he says it's the secondary school student who have finished their final exams tearing their clothes.
I mumble to my self that if any of them were my children I will deal with them. As they don't earn money so how can they tear what was bought for them. Suffice to say I give my older son who is helping me with my bags that speech and we head out into the car.
As we come outside the noise is overwhelming and as my son kept saying when we were later discussing what happened, he described it as being very intense when we had a chance to discuss the events that followed as people were running and upon my looking closer I saw pockets of people actually students and then girls running with palpable fear in their faces.
At this point I quickly enter my car to leave so one doesn't meet what ever the problem was and to avoid traffic too. And as we entered the car and I look a bit closely at a crowd of boys who have surrounded two persons on the floor who appear to be fighting. Their shouting overpowers any other sound and looking closely I see the most unreal thing. It's actually a boy trying to force himself on a girl with his trousers partly down and the boys are cheering him on.
People are looking and some persons the security guards in the office near us are recording it. I open my car in disbelief and shout on the boys to break it up while shouting at my security and the second driver to assist me. I walk towards them and as I make my way towards them I see another group and this time they have cornered one of the the girls who fell while running from them.
In almost a surreal way I am looking but not quickly processing. I see her kicked down, she bravely pushes her self up and another guy tries to clear her legs and she lunges at him and then a guy takes a pair of scissors in his hands and with one swoop tears her skirt from the bottom and also a part of the black spanx shorts she has on underneath. All this happens really in a few minutes and he proceeds to push himself into her through her back. His trousers is open too and another one tries to do same from the front. As this is going on the crowd of boys are wild with frenzy, cheering the two boys on, while grabbing at her hair, breasts and she is fighting for dear life.
I am still making my way towards the first group but they bolt when they see me coming and when I see them do so I move ahead and rush towards the second group this time shouting at the top of my lungs at my own office security, the office next door and thankfully mine follow me and when they see us coming they break up and run but there more girls running back. I reach the girl and we gather her things together. She ties the torn skirt around her spanx shorts like a wrapper and holds onto to me.
I see the boys have run forwards and stopped, waiting for me to enter my car while threatening other teenage school girls still. I have a crowd of over 25 girls huddled together frantically telling me their various ordeal. I ask them to take another route back and am told if the go back from where they are coming there is another group behind and the our office road is a crescent so they are technically locked in.
And most of them have their skirts ripped as they claim the boys in the various groups have scissors on them. Further questioning tells me the best way is to go out is towards the other side but since they are too scared to go I ask my security, some other men have come out to escort them too, with myself as the only adult female and there begins over an hours walk towards the obalende roundabout from off awolowo road in Ikoyi.
We meet other girls who have had their clothes ripped as the boys fled once the boys realized I was not backing up. The boys would reach a distance and stop to taunt the girls. We now had a crowd of over 60 girls who needed to get safely to the bus stop and find their way home. We ( being myself and the other men escorting the girls) start talking about how to get hold of one of the boys so we can use him as an example. At this point I call a friend and ask for a Mopol to be sent to me. I describe my location.
My attention is drawn to another girl who had just been manhandled by the fleeing boys. A woman warns the girls to beware as the boys have spilt up and are waiting as some live in that locality. We then break into three groups to escort the girls to their various bus or home points. I take the two girls whom I saw personally manhandled and begin to make careful inquiries.
Feedback shows that they go to a senior high school called Falomo Senior High School next to Ireti grammar school that these boys go to. Today was both schools final day after which they will come only to collect their results from Wednesday of the following week so the boys who had already started raping some girls last week now planned this brazen rape and manhandling activity.
They had also stolen their phones and transport money. We then made arrangements to transport them home. By now the mopol has come. He walks me to obalende under bridge to put the two girls and their friends going to Yaba into a bus. This is not before I get the names of the boys as George and Abiodun as the main perpetrators, they are final year students of Ireti Grammar School SW Ikoyi.
I call a friend and am told to take pictures but most of the girls have gone but we arel able to take pictures of at least 7 girls with me who had torn clothes in various stages of disarray. I give my number to the only girl left with a phone and this was because she put it into her spanx shorts as she wore two and used one to roll her phone into it. I am amazed at this whole thing and we agree that they should come through to my office on Wednesday of the following week but I will go ahead and make a report to the two schools tomorrow and begin finding these evil boys so we can use them as examples to deter other from this abominable behavior perpetrated in broad day light. One of the girls says she can identify them. She gives me her number.
I ask my security to ensure he receives them at 9am when we agreed to meet. I turn and leave but I will never be the same again. The evil is terrible. The lack of regard and the indignity. My mind runs through and is still running through all I have seen. I have a friend who normally stops to help distressed persons or attend to traffic situation and I always warn him to desist and he will say someone has to do it.
Today I am most grateful I was that someone. I had other people join me especially a man who saw me and said madam a girl was raped last week by this office. Am tired of this. Removed his tie and followed me. They stayed with me till the last set of kids entered the bus and as they came so they left when we got done. I did not get to say thank you to them. My older son was like mum, they must be angels or Jesus. Actually he said the man that followed me first must be Jesus.
I don't know who he was but if he ever reads this post my heartfelt thank you to him for that large hearted action. God is kind oh, that there are still good men but we must speak up and as such I am following up to ensure we do something collectively to help the boys of this school as I believe mentoring is required if this cycle is to be broken but the ones who committed this dastardly act must be brought to book first. I ask those in authority to look into this as I am told it's quite prevalent. God bless Nigeria and we all have a part in ensuring the blessing Michale Matthew"
SeunOshewaWife: I intend to purchase some Bitcoins into my blockchain wallet but I'm still sceptical about that decision because I don't understand how the crypto market works yet.
BTC or ETH? I would appreciate your suggestions, thanks.
@SOW
Just a quick one lady, I wanted to respond to this a few days back but had some prior obligations.
In order to avoid losing your shirt and/or skirt, you have to pay attention to the details below.
So, since you're relatively new to the crypto space, you have to focus on just one or two major assets like in other financial markets.
Then stick to only BTC since its the most active of all cryptos ever. Mind you, over 1,000 newly launched cryptos have failed over the years!
Second, it depends on what you intend to do with the BTC you want to purchase. Is it for short-term or long-term use?
If it's for long-term (buy and hold) investments, then you have to make sure you buy low (when the price is not volatile or choppy like the markets are now) and wait for BTC price to rise over months until you're in full profit territory.
If you want to do short-term trading with BTC as a newbie, then it is NOT advisable because of the uncertainties in the crypto markets, and you can lose your trading money like some people have done. Even experienced crypto traders are not taking risks as of now with trading.
Just like in the stocks, and fx markets for instance, you have to do a lot of due dilligence and read up more on specific assets you want to invest in after going for real time training and re-training.
BigCabal: After months of uncertainty regarding regulations, Chaka has received a license from Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to operate its digital platform for buying and selling stocks.
Chaka becomes the first to acquire the digital sub-broker license introduced by SEC in April of this year. As part of a major amendment to its Consolidated Rules and Regulations, SEC recognised sub-brokers who use digital platforms to serve multiple brokers.
Tosin Osibodu, the startup’s CEO, said on a call on Wednesday that the acquisition took “a tremendous amount of effort” and is the fruit of frequent engagement with the capital markets regulator.
On the 19th of December 2020, the SEC published a statement that effectively barred Chaka from offering its services in Nigeria. SEC’s complaint was that Chaka operated “outside the regulatory purview of the Commission and without requisite registration, as stipulated by the Investment and Securities Act 2007.”
SEC ordered Chaka to stop advertising to users, justifying it as a need to prevent “unscrupulous actors” from harming the investing public. Though the order was particular to Chaka, it was the first major signal that regulation was coming to the investment-tech sector.
That December warning enabled Chaka to take the lead and open talks with the SEC. With the license now acquired, Osibodu says it affirms Chaka’s commitment to full regulatory compliance and provides clarity to the market.
“We’ve built a great relationship [with SEC] that we think will be beneficial for the whole ecosystem moving forward,” Osibodu said.
He said the license also means Chaka could now enable other stockbroking firms who want to have a digital presence. “We want this benefit to accrue to as many stockbrokers as possible.”
Until now, Chaka’s operations were based on a partnership with Citi Investment Capital Ltd, a Lagos-based broker licensed by the SEC. An official license now places the startup directly under SEC’s supervision.
Chaka’s app hosts over 4,000 stocks from publicly traded companies in Nigeria and the US. Founded in January 2019 by Osibodu with Olaolu Ajose as the chief technology officer, the startup bills itself as an “investment passport” which powers borderless investing for users.
Anyone with an internet-enabled smartphone can download the app, sign up and begin investing with $2 or ₦1,000. Chaka is only available in Nigeria at the moment.
Osibodu did not specify what Chaka did, in terms of fees or filings, to receive the license.
But according to the SEC’s recent amendment (pdf, page 3), a sub-broker license for digital platforms involves a minimum capital of ₦10 million and a Fidelity Bond covering at least 20% of the minimum capital.
Other requirements include four separate fees totalling ₦500,000, a number of SEC forms, company documents and other documentation about people involved with the company.
Digital sub-brokers are also required to fully describe the technology that their infrastructure is built on, including details about security, backup and recovery processes.
They should have adequate Know Your Customer processes and have documented policies for managing technology risks. Also, they are expected to show how they assess the capacity of potential customers to use its platform for transactions, plus clear explanations of the features, risks, responsibilities, obligations and liabilities that come with using the app.
It is not clear if this license officially permits Chaka (and other fintechs in the sector) to offer stocks listed in foreign markets – like Tesla and Google – to Nigerians. In April, SEC sounded a warning that seemed to declare such offerings as being illegal.
Osibodu’s coy response was that Chaka is committed to SEC’s objectives for financial inclusion in Nigeria by, among other things, increasing retail investor participation in the financial markets.
BigCabal: In 2021, when you think of how best to serve people beyond physical borders, the internet comes to mind.
Building a business on the internet could play out in two different ways. Your business can either deal with offering physical products for sale online or providing a service online. The former would be tangible while the latter would have no physical form whatsoever.
Tolu Michael chose to provide a service – a digital product – where she guides people on how to establish personal reputation using the internet. She’s helping them gain visibility online. I had an interesting chat with her on what it’s like creating services and selling to tens of thousands of people online from the comfort of her home in Lagos, Nigeria. But before we dive in, let’s take a stroll through her career journey.
A digital entrepreneur with an engineering background
After studying mechanical engineering in Nigeria- something she did because of her love for cars – she took a detour into the world of investment banking. This happened after she interned at a Toyota after-sales franchise for a while and realised she didn’t want to deal with the smell of petrol and engine oil every day.
Somewhere in her career journey, marriage happened and she had to move cities but during that process, she lost her job so she had to rethink her career path. As a woman, changing jobs alongside starting a new family came with startling challenges.
Michaels’ initial obstacle being a newly wedded woman is not exactly a peculiar one. In a lot of family situations, prioritizing family over work is the number one barrier to a woman’s career. This study by Harvard Business School says more than half of Gen X and Baby Boomer men expected that their careers would take priority over their partners. In the study, “73 percent of men and 85 percent of women agreed that prioritizing family over work is the most difficult career decision women face.
For Michaels, being newly married came with lots of “specific rejections,” where employers assume she might get carried away with building a family and leave her job to suffer. At this point, searching for new job opportunities proved abortive so she figured she could try out something on her own and that just happened to be digital entrepreneurship.
“Initially, I started to ask myself, what do I have to offer people, especially beyond borders, because I couldn’t do something physical. I didn’t have the capital to sell physical products so I needed something I could provide people in whatever location I am,” she tells me on our Google Meet call.
Leveraging knowledge commerce
Digital products are basically online products that can’t be held, touched, or tasted. They could be music, videos, ebooks, online courses or even this article you are reading. They are only created and delivered electronically.
To generate revenue, a digital entrepreneur builds their platform through personal branding, this is particularly pertinent to gain visibility and influence more sales
Personal branding is all about positioning, Michaels tells me. “You don’t even need to have a very large audience, all you need is to position yourself as a valuable expert and leader. This will allow the right people and the right opportunities to be attracted to you.”
In the initial stage of her digital career, Michaels picked up new skills including a degree on Disruptive Strategy from Harvard Business school. She had also helped a few friends build their personal brands so it was about time to enlarge her area of reach.
First, she buffed up her social media presence, which she says is a major part of “positioning.” Social media is free to use but to gain followers or reach a larger audience, one needs to put in the work. She got her “first-ever client from outside her circle of friends” from Instagram. One would think LinkedIn could have been at the forefront of this process but, she says, in selling digital products, entrepreneurs should have their profiles on all social media platforms and utilise each platform fully.
From getting her first international client to building a personal platform that has trained over 20,000 people in over 12 countries of the world, what Michaels really does is teach modern entrepreneurs how “to build purposeful and profitable personal brands, so that they can stand out of the crowd and sell impactful products.”
She does this through branding, online courses, consultations, podcasting and through her book, Show Up. For her, work revolves around helping people get the clarity and confidence to show up online, communicate their values, and create a bigger impact with their work. How she sells is mostly by referrals from people she’s worked with in the past.
For some digital entrepreneurs, online sales only provide supplementary income in addition to their main jobs but for people like her, it is a full-time job that is earning her a living.
When Michaels made her first 1000 dollars just from putting her thoughts together and selling to her audience, she became an ardent digital product creator. What is even more important to her is positioning herself not as someone whose products are for an African audience alone but for an untapped global market.
As one who speaks candidly about juggling motherhood, selling digital products is not just helping her create impact and make money while at it, it is also enabling her to work mostly from the comfort of her home, close to her daughter.
