PoliticsWe’ll Kill Any South-east PDP Politician Who Accepts Party’s VP Slot -Biafra Grp by Kuginzi(op):
IBWW in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Lt. Jack Warrior, said the group had established that politicians from the South-East were set to sabotage Obi, Pius Anyim and others.

He added that whoever did such would cry for betraying the South-East.

The statement reads, “The Indigenous Biafra-Warriors Worldwide, independent militants in Biafra land, a military and civilian watchdog, has mounted its searchlight on PDP stakeholders in South-East and South-South. We're in all the countries of the earth, no hiding place for our targets.

"We have noted with most interest a perceived conspiracy against South-East presidential aspirants in PDP especially on Mr Peter Obi whom Nigerians have seen as the most qualified aspirants that will genuinely fix Nigeria. The established politicians in South-East are set to sabotage Mr Obi, Pius Anyim and others.

"We are closely watching the body language of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as they are the leading "sabo" against the South-East producing the next president of Nigeria in 2023.

"But one thing is very Sacrosanct and inevitable in 2023 which is either South-East produces the next president of Nigeria or Biafra is actualised by every means.

"2022 to 2023 will be the worst political outing of corrupt politicians from Biafra land because blood will flow. We are carefully collecting and monitoring the names of "sabo". Those politicians who are working against Biafra restoration and now turned to work against South-East to produce Nigerian president in 2023 should remove their hands or within one month from now their heads will roll.

"We know many of you are working for Atiku Abubakar, Mohammed Bala, Bukola Saraki and Tambuwal in secret, it's time to repent now. We want to tell South-East PDP presidential aspirants, Mr Peter Obi, Anyim Pius Anyim, Sam Ohabunwa and Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze, that any of you that will accept PDP vice presidential slot, have accepted death. We will wipe you and your children out from earth.

"There will be "Jerry Rawlings judgment" to South-East political saboteurs both the small and great, only standing and working for South-East presidential aspirants can save you. The PDP delegates at every level in South-East should know that 2022 PDP presidential primary is not time to make money, but time to pick a right candidate to fix Nigeria, therefore they should choose either to work with South-East presidential aspirants or we will serve their heads in a plate.

"We are aware that the major factor stopping Biafra restoration are Igbo politicians or the so-called leaders in Biafra land. We have remembered all corrupt politicians in Biafra land this time. None of you shall escape our wrath. You people are living with us and we are living with you people, we know your houses, offices and some of you that sent your children abroad to enjoy good education and good life, we will track your children and wives.

"There will be cry of sorrow in Biafra land if anyone betrays South-East. We have taken this "suicide mission" to salvage Biafra land. We're not afraid of death because we have died many years ago with injustice and marginalisation melted on South-East since after the war.”

CrimeWe Were Kidnapped By Southerners In Delta, Handed Over To Fulani For Ransom Nego by Kuginzi(op): 4:36am On Apr 24, 2022
We were kidnapped by southerners in Delta, handed over to Fulani for ransom negotiation – Bayelsa-based journalist

What are the events that led to your kidnap?

I must say that I had no premonition that such could happen to me. But when the kidnap happened, it all looked like something I had dreamt about before, especially the shooting and killing of the driver. It felt like it was happening in a movie. Actually on that day, I was supposed to leave Bayelsa for Delta State by 3pm but I shifted it to 4pm. On my way to the park, I saw a bus belonging to Sunny Ero Motors, which took me to the park where I boarded the bus going to Warri. So, I got my ticket but it took a while for the bus to fill up. For the first time, I didn’t write my name in the manifest because I got my ticket from the first park where I boarded the bus. But some things happened, like people coming into the bus and alighting because of one reason or another. I kept faith in God, believing that I would get to my destination without any hiccup. We left Yenagoa around 5pm and I expected I should be at my destination by 7pm. I was also sure of arriving at my destination safely; there had been no kidnapping on that route for a while. I am surprised to have been kidnapped.

Do you think leaving late contributed to your kidnap?

I don’t think so. We were kidnapped around 6pm when the day was still bright. I was thinking we should arrive in Ughelli soon but we were attacked and kidnapped five minutes’ drive to Ughelli. When we were leaving the park, there was another bus loading after the one I boarded and going towards the same direction we were going. It was a random thing and we were unfortunate to be there at that time.

There were almost 15 police checkpoints that we passed before we were kidnapped. The last one we passed was just one or two minutes before we were abducted. I have learnt my lessons, the moment it is after 4pm, I will never leave for a trip again, no matter how short.

Can you explain how the kidnap took place?

was making a call to my sister to wish her a happy birthday but her phone was not reachable as we passed a village called Uwelli. So I called my sister’s friend so she could let her know I was going to stay with her till the following day before travelling further. It was at this point that I started hearing gunshots. It was like I was in a trance. All I noticed was that we all lay down in the bus trying to avoid being hit by bullets. It was a war situation. Two other passengers were lying on me. The first thing I saw was a man shooting in the air. He then pointed the gun at the driver and shot him dead. The driver’s blood started flowing to where I was and even stained my phone. But my phone was still on and I was sure that my sister’s friend heard all the commotion that took place. The kidnappers just came out from the bush and hell was let loose.

How many of you were taken into the bush?

They took about seven or eight of us from the bus. Two boys, who sat at the back, escaped, I suppose, through the window. They also kidnapped people from two Sienna buses that were behind us, one from Port Harcourt and another had a man and his wife. Initially they separated us. Immediately, they took our wallets, phones (which they switched off) and other personal effects. They couldn’t switch off my phone and they put it in airplane mode. They took us through a bush path and I was the one who carried all the things they took from us, which was added burden. After about 10 minutes walk into the bush, I heard police siren and gunshots and we diverted into a thick forest that was waterlogged and they told us to lie face down. They instructed that nobody should talk. After about an hour of lying face down in the water and they were sure the police had gone, they told us to stand up, by which time, it was dark and it was difficult to see who was beside you.

We started walking, not knowing where we were going. I had lost my leather slippers during the initial commotion and I was walking barefoot. It was horrible because we didn’t know what we were stepping on. They used the torchlight from a small phone to find their way and ours was to follow them. They didn’t care about any discomfort any of us was going through. If you were not keeping with the pace, they hit you with the butt of the gun or beat you with a stick. When you also tried to break a small tree branch impeding you, they will think you intended to use it as a weapon and they would beat you. So, I had no choice but to move on no matter what was impeding me. I sustained several cuts on my arms. After several hours, we got to a spot where we were again told to lie face down.

They called us one after the other, asking us where we worked and other personal questions. It was like profiling us to see what they could get as ransom. They then separated us because they felt that there were some people they would not get money from even if they threatened to kill them. Those ones were thoroughly beaten and there were some female students who were released the next day.

What did the kidnappers look like?

The people who kidnapped us were southerners but they handed us us to Fulani or Hausa-Fulani (men) in the bush, who made sure we did not escape while the negotiation was on. It was obvious that the Fulani knew the forest so well.

PoliticsIPOB A Branch Of PDP Behind Insecurity In S’east – Joe Igbokwe Alleges, by Kuginzi(op): 3:36pm On Apr 23, 2022
By Joe Chukindi

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State, Chief Joe Igbokwe has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, sponsored the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in 2015 after losing election.

Igbokwe, in a post on Facebook, said the solution to the insecurity in the zone was for stakeholders to visit President Buhari and seek for improved security in the zone.

He, however, stated that he has paid his own price to the insecurity in the zone, through the burning of his house in Nnewi last year.

“President Buhari won elections in 2015 and IPOB, a branch of PDP took to the streets to vent their anger, stupidity and frustrations. Our leaders: the intelligentsia, Governors, Law Makers, University Dons, Bishops, Traditional Rulers, Business Moguls, Chieftains of Industries, Men of Issachar, the vibrant and useful Youths, and all other stakeholders in the South East looked the other way thinking that blackmail, morbid silence, and unconcerned attitudes will help. It did not. It ended in disaster, frustrations and deaths.

The one million containers of hate and bigotry we deliberately imported into South East have berthed quietly and neatly too in Igboland. We are offloading the goods into various warehouses across Igboland. They are selling like hot cakes and everybody is receiving his or her own share of the goods.

"I received mine on Sunday, October 3rd 2021 in Uruagu Nnewi. President General Ohaneze Worldwide Prof George Obiozor received his own too( please know this and have inner peace: an attack on OHANEZE President General is an attack on all Igbo anywhere in the world). Akunyili Family received theirs too. The late Chu Okongwu family in Nnewi received theirs too. Governor Hope Uzodinma received his containers too. Police personnels, police formations, INEC offices, LGAs etc were not left out in the distribution of the largesse. I can go on and on.”

Igbokwe said to reclaim the South East, there are two ways to go about it, one of which was to approach Buhari and seek for improved security in the zone.

“Every man in Igboland must stand up and chase these bandits and criminals out of Igboland and take back our South East, the land of the rising sun. Nobody has a monopoly of violence. Force respects force. The language these bandits or Boko Haram of South East will understand now is dialogue on an equal basis.

"Option two is for all the stakeholders I listed above to visit the President in Abuja and request for security to protect lives and property,” he said.

He said the situation in Igboland today demands that every man in Igboland has a duty to do.

He said Igboland expects every man to stand up and do his duty to the land.

“I have done my duty to Igboland. Do yours now or we lose everything to criminals and bandits,” Igbokwe said.

PoliticsResign If You Are A Man, Wike Dares Umahi by Kuginzi(op): 4:45am On Apr 23, 2022
Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has attacked his Ebonyi counterpart, Dave Umahi again for defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to scrutinise its aspirants for 2023 election to avert the mistake of handing its tickets to persons who would later join another party.

The presidential aspirant urged PDP delegates to vote for him during the party’s convention because he lacks the propensity to defect with the party’s mandate to another party.

The Rivers Governor spoke while wooing PDP leaders and delegates in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State on Friday, according to a statement by his Special Asssitant, Media, Kelvin Ebiri.

Wike expressed optimism that a day of reckoning awaited Umahi and those who defected from the PDP to the APC.

He said the PDP would continue to fight against injustice meted on it by the defectors to strengthen the country’s democracy.

He said: “My colleague David Umahi, wherever you are, wherever you may be, hear me very well. PDP had sleepless night, PDP won election, and you took the mandate of our people and go to another party.

"If you know you are a man and you are very strong, and any day they fix election you will win, I challenge you to resign as governor and contest election whether you will win again.”

On why he deserved the ticket, he said: “I have never left this party one day. When PDP was in problem, I stood firm and I said PDP will not die.

“Don’t give (presidential) ticket to the person who will run from the party tomorrow . I am the only person Nigerians know will not run from the party.”

The Governor urged Ebonyi delegates to support his presidential ambition because he was the only aspirant with the capacity to defeat the APC in the 2023 presidential election.

Wike reiterated that PDP could not afford another defeat in the 2023 general election and advised delegates to shun ethnoreligious sentiment and vote for him to pull Nigeria out from the brinks.

“What PDP wants now is who can win election. It is not about where you come from. What the party wants today is who can win election for PDP. Give me this ticket let me go and win APC for you”, he said.

Wike lamented the spate of killings across the country, declaring that if he emerged as the next president, he would decisively tackle insurgency, banditry and grow the national economy.

He assured as President, he would encourage women and youths active participation in politics.

“If I am the President of this country, I will not have less than seven women as minister. I will not have less than seven youths as ministers”, he said.

Enugu Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi commended PDP faithful for remaining steadfast despite the recent defection of some members of the party to the APC.

Former Gombe Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, told the delegates that Wike has the requisite experience to provide good governance.

He said: “Governor Nyesom Wike, is the person that is prepared for the job in terms of his training, in terms of his character, his courage, his commitment to the party and above all, his determination to work with all of you after he becomes the President of this country. He is strong, he has super energy.

“I have worked with a lot of people including presidents but I want to assure today, Governor Wike is one of the real very active and strong people I have worked with in recent times. He is very strong, he is very committed and he is very determined.”

PoliticsMahmood Yakubu: Insecurity Will Not Stop 2023 Polls by Kuginzi(op): 7:23am On Apr 22, 2022
By Henry Umoru, Johnbosco Agbakwuru & Omeiza Ajayi, ABUJA

IN SPITE of the raging waves of insecurity in the country and the killing of one of its staff on voter registration duty last week in Imo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has vowed to continue with its preparations for next year’s General Elections, declaring that the exercise must hold.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed, yesterday, in Abuja at the official presentation of the INEC Strategic Plan 2022-2026 and the INEC Election Project Plan for the 2023 General Election.

The election umpire spoke as President Muhammadu Buhari expressed sadness over the persistent insecurity in the country, which the nation’s security agencies have been unable to end, according to the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno, retd.

The President, who was not happy that his previous directives to the military to end insecurity in the country had not yielded many results, further directed all the operational and intelligence agencies to rescue unhurt all kidnapped persons by terrorists, including those in the Abuja-Kaduna bound train.

Briefing State House correspondents after a three and half hours meeting of the National Security Council presided over by the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the NSA said Buhari cannot be happy when people are being killed on a daily basis.

No going back on 2023 polls – INEC

The INEC boss said the Strategic Plan 2022-2026 and the 2023 Election Project Plan drew lessons from and thoroughly reviewed the level of implementation of the last plans.

“They build on the successes of the preceding plans, especially in the planning and conduct of the 2019 General Election as well as off-cycle and bye-elections. Against the backdrop of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the current security situation in the country, both plans had to prioritise the institutionalisation of the Commission’s processes for the effective delivery of its mandate by focusing on capacity-building, promotion of professionalism, encouraging greater synergy among departments, improving efficient utilisation of resources, increased deployment of technology as well as greater sensitivity to threats to the electoral process as well as election personnel and infrastructure.

“We are also aware of the security challenges and their impact on the electoral process. We will continue to engage early and intensely with the security agencies to ensure the safety of our personnel and materials, accredited observers and the media and, above all, the voters. Clearly, these are challenging times but we are determined that the election must hold in 2023.

“However, this is a shared responsibility. INEC plays a critical role but the Commission alone cannot deliver the elections we all desire. I, therefore, appeal to all Nigerians to join hands with us in ensuring that we make a success of the process,” Yakubu pleaded.

He said by next week, the Commission will conclude the revision of the Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

“Work has also commenced on the review of the manuals for the training of election duty personnel. With the planning processes virtually completed, the Commission will now focus its attention on election technology and election administration.”

CrimeNURTW Crisis: Police Arrest 5 As MC Oluomo, Istijabah Loyalists Clash In Lagos by Kuginzi(op): 3:56pm On Apr 21, 2022
By Evelyn Usman & Bose Adelaja

The crisis rocking the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Lagos State, yesterday, deepened as loyalists of the newly appointed Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and Chairman of Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria, TOOAN, Azeez Ajibola, popularly known as Istijabah, clashed at the Ayobo area of the state.

The situation was, however, brought under control by security agents, who stormed the area.

The incident, which happened at about 8am at Ayobo bus stop, spread to Megida, Alagbado and its environs, with residents scampering for safety.

There were different accounts as to how the trouble started.
An eyewitness, who gave the account of the clash, alleged that MC Oluomo’s loyalists stormed Ayobo to forcefully take possession of the garage from TOOAN, who resisted the move.

A resident of Ayobo, Sobola Michael, who witnessed the scene, said some loyalists of Istijabah were engrossed with the day’s activities at various parks, when some loyalists of MC Oluomo arrived in about 10 vehicles shooting into the air to scare people away.

PoliticsProphet Richard Kolawole: Wike & Osinbajo Are Best Pesidential Aspirants by Kuginzi(op): 3:19pm On Apr 21, 2022
The General Overseer, Christ Apostolic Church, Arogungbogunmi, Prophet Richard Kolawole, has said that God told him that only two of the presidential aspirants who have disclosed their intentions so far have the love of the country at heart.

He urged Nigerians to shun ethnic and religious sentiments by allowing a man after God’s heart to emerge as the President in 2023 instead of voting blindly for candidates with self-serving intentions.

Pastor Kolawole gave the advice on Wednesday at a briefing on what he called ‘Shedding light on the mind of God to Nigerians’ in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Noting that God does not contend with men in decision-making, he alluded to the experience of the Israelites in the Holy Bible who made a choice of being ruled by kings instead of a judge.

Kolawole said, “Of all the presidential aspirants that have indicated their interest to contest in the 2023 elections, God told me that only two can steer the ship of the nation. The first person is from the South-West while the second person is from the South-South. One of the two personalities is Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo while the second person is Nyesom Wike.”

He stressed that, “God told me that Osinbajo would perform well if he is elected as President. Under his administration, God says that the citizens would feel the effects of democracy and the land would be free from bondage.

“On the other hand, God said that he put the zeal to serve Nigeria into the heart of Nyesom Wike. This implies that if he is elected as the President, he would perform creditably. Under his watch, the country would witness development.

Other aspirants are there to just mark their time and under them, corruption would rise to an embarrassing peak. They would milk the land dry and it would turn into desolation. There won’t be any notable development. He said that one of the serving ministers from the South who is jostling for the presidential position has no clue to solve Nigeria’s problem.

“The two aspirants that God told me about on the 2023 presidential election are Osinbajo and Wike. If any of the two is voted for to be president of Nigeria.

"It should not be a matter of which zone or person should be favoured but about who God wants to use for the country’s liberation. The people should vote in the right person as president.

“When, in 2015, I told Nigerians what God said to me that Muhammadu Buhari could not bring any good to the land, people were agitating; today, they can see for themselves. Most ministers predicted doom and we can see the way things are today.”

PoliticsInsecurity: National Assembly Under Fire Over Failure To Impeach Buhari by Kuginzi(op): 6:12pm On Apr 18, 2022
By John Owen Nwachukwu

The National Assembly, led by Senator Ahmed Lawan and Rep Femi Gbajabiamila, has come under scrutiny over their refusal to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari despite his failure to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.

Human Rights Writers of Nigeria, HURIWA, on Monday, also backed the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, who again, spoke his mind and those of most Nigerians concerning the Buhari-led administration.

HURIWA, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, said the cleric was right that everything under Buhari has “literally broken down” and Nigeria has become “one big emergency national hospital with full occupancy”.

The group accused the National Assembly of collective failure to impeach Buhari despite his many failings and vacuous incompetence.

Adding its voice to Kukah’s Easter message, HURIWA’s Onwubiko said that Kukuh was on point when he said every aspect of our national life under the watch of Buhari has been grossly broken.

HURIWA noted that in all ramifications, the President and his entire cabinet have failed in the universal primary responsibility of any government which is the security and welfare of the citizens as also enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution Section 14 (2)(b).

The rights group noted that almost on a daily basis, killer herdsmen, gunmen and terrorists kill hundreds of innocent citizens in Kaduna, Zamfara, Borno, Yobe, Plateau, Taraba, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, and other states with the government doing just a little or nothing about it.

“Sadly, these terrorists and enemies of the country walk freely, unarrested and unprosecuted by the Buhari regime while security agents pander around, sparing the killers while the President gives empty marching orders and unsympathetic condolence messages,” HURIWA said.

“The sitting duck and bootlicking Senate and House of Representatives are also complicit over their failure to impeach President Buhari after he has lost legitimacy to exercise authority as President having failed woefully to enforce section 14(2) (b) of the Constitution which is the primary duty of government.”

HURIWA said that President Buhari through the ruling party has captured the conscience of the National Assembly leaders and put them in his pocket “with his surrogates and lackeys as military chiefs.”

HURIWA wondered why Buhari has remained in Aso Villa unreached “despite the many impeachable offences he has committed against the Nigerian people.”

Joining voices with Bishop Kukah, HURIWA said that Nigerians are no longer at home with the current “failed administration”.

Politics2023: Nigerians See PDP As Only Hope – Sule Lamido by Kuginzi(op): 3:24pm On Apr 18, 2022
By Khaleel Muhammad

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido has said Nigerians now view the Peoples DemocraticParty, PDP, as their only hope.
Lamido who made the comments at a program on Channels Television on Sunday, said the party’s ongoing preparations for the 2023 general election are in the interest of national development.

He said the quest for support from PDP stakeholders across the country would enhance the party’s image.

“In the PDP, everything we do is for the good of Nigeria, not ours. People see the PDP as the only hope in Nigeria today.

“We are working to bring what Nigerians will enjoy and will be able to restore mutual love and trust”

“For me, before you do anything, you need to restore trust”.

"Obviously, in Nigeria today, we do not trust each other. We do not feel comfortable with each other now”

Similarly, Sule Lamido recalled the 2015 election, saying that Nigerians lost and not the PDP.

“There was a party called the PDP that won elections in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 but lost in 2015. So Nigerians know the PDP very well.

“We did not lose the election in 2015 or 2019, it was Nigerians who lost the election; it was Nigerians who lost, not us.”

PoliticsEFCC, ICPC Officials Accuse Buhari Of Sabotaging Fight Against Corruption by Kuginzi(op): 7:22am On Apr 18, 2022
ByIbrahim Adeyemi

Officials of Nigeria’s anti-graft agencies, EFCC and ICPC, say their morale and commitment to work have been affected by the controversial presidential pardon of Jolly Nyame, former governor of Taraba State, and Joshua Dariye, former governor of Plateau State. Both men had been convicted and jailed for stealing state funds.

The officials of the two institutions, in separate interviews with PREMIUM TIMES, lamented the pardon and accused President Muhammadu Buhari of sabotaging the anti-corruption fight.

The officials asked not to be named for fear of victimisation.

“We used to say our problem in our work against corruption is the judiciary but we see a lack of political will by the president,” one EFCC official said.

Messrs Nyame and Dariye were pardoned by Mr Buhari despite still serving their jail terms.

Mr Dariye, 64, and Mr Nyame, 66, were convicted for mismanaging and stealing public funds while they were governors of their states.

But on Thursday, at the National Council of State’s meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Mr Buhari granted pardon to the two former governors, as well as 157 others, on the grounds of health and age.

By granting them pardon, insiders told PREMIUM TIMES, Mr Buhari — who rode to power on the campaign of fighting corruption — has dampened the morale of the officials of the anti-graft agencies.

“We used to say our problem in our work against corruption is the judiciary but we see a lack of political will by the president”

One official said the anti-graft officers would now merely attend work to earn their salaries without passion.

“People will be taunting us now that a president can pardon a big thief whom we seriously try to prosecute,” the official said.

The official lamented that the prosecutions of the two former governors took up to 10 years and their eventual convictions were a high point of their work.

“Staff are angrier because the two former governors were tried for over a decade and got convicted. They are saying that the corrupt public servants even made appeals but their conviction was affirmed by Nigeria’s apex court,” the official said,

Jolly Nyame was sentenced to 14 years in prison for fraud

The official added that some members of staff are querying their moral ground to go pursue other cases of corruption.

Another official said he doubts Mr Buhari reviewed the implication of his actions on operatives of the anti-graft agencies.

“People risked their lives and friendships to investigate the ex-governors. They refused to be compromised. Now it appears all the efforts were in vain,” the anti-corruption investigator said.

Meanwhile, some non-governmental organisations such as the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), and Transparency International (TI) also condemned the pardon granted to the corrupt politicians convicted by the Nigerian courts.

The civil society organisations are worried about what they called “the effect such ill-thought political pardon will have on the anti-corruption efforts, which constitutes the major agenda and commitment of the current administration”.

“We sincerely hope the processes and objectives of such Presidential pardon will be re-examined and made transparent to avoid bad precedence, especially as the nation moves towards a political transition in the 2023 general elections,” a statement signed by CISLAC’s Executive Director, Auwal Musa, read in parts.

Mike Ozekhome, a human rights lawyer and activist, said the official pardon is a major setback to Nigeria’s fight against corruption. Mr Ozekhome argued that pardoning the corrupt politicians has only validated the public perception of Mr Buhari’s administration’s lop-sided corruption fight.

Politics2023: Don’t Blame Nigerian Youths For Being Lazy – Tinubu by Kuginzi(op): 3:29pm On Apr 17, 2022
By Seun Opejobi

Presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu, has said Nigerian youths can’t be blamed for being lazy.

Tinubu claimed Nigerian youths cannot be blamed for being “lazy” with erratic electricity supply in the country.

Addressing youths of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday in Lagos State, the party’s National Leader, said Nigeria cannot experience “rapid development” without electricity.

He maintained that Nigeria cannot continue to give “excuses” for failure to generate a stable power supply.

According to Tinubu: “We cannot continue with excuses on NEPA failure. No! No nation can make rapid development without electricity.

“Give us that, and if we cannot be successful, you can abuse us. You cannot give us erratic electricity that is undependable and then blame us again that we are lazy. No!

"Nigeria — it is about time. We have enough gas to fire up our electricity. We can supply the rest of Europe with gas, and we can make money from it.”

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had in April 2018, described Nigerian youths as lazy.

He said most Nigerian youths want to sit down and do nothing while relying on the claims that Nigeria is an oil-rich nation.

Operatives of the Rapid d'intervention Battalion, a Cameroonian military unit in the Bakassi Peninsula, have killed a commander of the pro-Biafra group, the Biafra Nations League.
According to a statement by Ita Bassey, leader of the Bakassi chapter of BNL, the deceased commander was killed during an operation on Wednesday.

The deceased led the armed group who attacked a boat in a bid to abduct the three tourists, and one security personnel onboard.
The corpse of the commander has since been handed over to the Nigerian Military, Bassey said.
"He was captured in his house, we are not aware if he was part of the attack on the boat on Wednesday, but what we know is that he has been killed and his remains handed to Nigerian Military," he stated
The Cameroonian Security Forces shot the suspect when he attempted to flee during a tip-off operation at his residence in Idabato on Friday morning.
Some weeks ago, the BNL ordered its men to regroup in order to block border entrances and roads.
The group also directed its members to kidnap oil workers in the South-Eastern borders and coastal areas.

Politics2023: Wike Says He Will Remain In PDP Even If He Doesn’t Get Presidential Ticket by Kuginzi(op): 5:30pm On Apr 16, 2022
Rivers State Governor and 2023 presidential aspirant, Mr Nyesom Wike, has said he would remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), even if he does not win the presidential ticket.

Wike said this while addressing stakeholders of the Niger State chapter of the PDP at the party secretariat in Minna on Saturday,

The Governor said there was nothing wrong with a consensus candidate if it is based on equity, justice and fairness.

While soliciting the stakeholders’ support he said he is the only candidate who is capable of defeating the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election.

“I am here today to tell you that I have made myself available to run for the seat of the president of this country under our party, PDP, I have been a member of the PDP since 1988, I have never left the party and I will never leave.

"I can become the president if I get the mandate of delegates to make me the flag bearer. The country needs someone will who sees white and call it white and black and call it black and that person is me,” he said.

He promised to address the security challenges in the country, alleging that the present administration had not adequately protected lives and property.

PoliticsWhat Will Happen If Buhari Refuses To Hand Over Power In 2023 –Yoruba Elder, Ayo by Kuginzi(op): 6:03am On Apr 14, 2022
Speaking during an interactive session on Wednesday, Opadokun said he is not in a position to prophesy whether Buhari will transmit power to another in 2023 when his second term will be over.

An activist and chieftain of the defunct National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Chief Ayo Opadokun has explained that the international community would step in if President Muhammadu Buhari refuses to step down from government in 2023.

Speaking during an interactive session on Wednesday, Opadokun said he is not in a position to prophesy whether Buhari will transmit power to another in 2023 when his second term will be over.

He, however, said the world has become more of a global community where government policies and decisions are not taken in isolation, particularly with the power of social media.

Buttressing his point, he referred to the recently launched United States consulate at the Eko Atlantic City, Lagos State worth over $500 million.

He said, “Ayo Opadokun is not a prophet, I'm not in the business of conjuring responses, I'm neither a psychologist nor a seer to say reading from the body language of this person, this is what this person will do or this is what he will not do, but one thing I can assure you of is that the world is now a global community. No leader is immune from the effects or focus of social media as to what it does.

"What you do here in one minute can go viral globally and be known and followed excessively. I will like to give President Buhari the benefit of doubt, he said he is going to Daura to take care of his family.

“I am confessing to you that what the American government had just recently done by deciding to spend a whopping $535 million to establish an American consulate in Lagos is not a joke, we are being taken seriously.

"If anybody is daring to mess up that, he will have the world community to contend with, I believe that no matter what may be your doubt, you are entitled to it because of the happenings of the recent past. I myself was a reporter at the time, I was in Kano to cover the tribunal in 1981, but it has gone beyond that.

“But we are doing, we are positively directed, focused, there's a reason for us not to lose this chance because Nigeria is on a precipice, any slight miscarriage of the current situation may lead to something else. Let's do what we can do.”

CrimeArmy Arrests 12 Imposters, Warns Against Use Of Military Belts, T-shirts by Kuginzi(op): 5:52am On Apr 14, 2022
The General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Umar Musa, has confirmed the arrest of 12 suspects impersonating military officers to commit crimes in Lagos and Ogun states.

A statement by the division’s spokesperson, Major Olaniyi Osoba, on Wednesday, said the suspects were paraded for the offence.

Osoba said Musa, while briefing the press during the parade, said not all persons in Army uniform were military personnel.

The statement read, “The 81 Division, Nigerian Army, has arrested 12 suspected imposters fully dressed in military camouflage portraying the Nigerian Army in a bad light during Operation Checkmate within Lagos and Ogun states.

The General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Umar Musa, in a press briefing, dispelled the unfounded narrative that all illicit acts committed by persons dressed in military uniforms are always by military personnel.

“He noted that persons displaying military banners and accoutrements, such as belts and stickers on vehicles and driving commercial vehicles in military uniform as well as driving civilian vehicles painted in army colours are most often not personnel of the Nigerian Army.

“He said in an effort to curtail the ugly trend, the division had heightened the activities of Operation Checkmate to ensure regular arrest of imposters and offenders within the division’s area of responsibility. The GOC disclosed that over 150 impostors were arrested from January last year till date.”

During the parade, Musa was quoted as saying preliminary investigation revealed that some of the suspects specialised in mounting roadblocks along the Ajah Road to extort money from motorists, as well as indulging in other illegal duties while dressed in the Nigerian Army uniform.

“Similarly, the GOC said some arrested suspects fully dressed in military uniform were caught along the Ilaro border area of Ogun State, where they smuggled rice and other contraband.

“The GOC said the arrested impostors would be handed over to the police for further action. He, therefore, urged members of the public to desist from wearing military uniform and T-shirts, displaying military banners, belts and stickers on vehicles as well as driving civilian vehicles painted in army colours,” he added.

CrimeMetrogunmen Invade Taraba Mosque, Kill District Head by Kuginzi(op): 5:26am On Apr 13, 2022
By Great Ozozoyin

Muslim faithful observing the ongoing Ramadan fast in Taraba State have again been thrown into mourning as unknown gunmen have killed a monarch in another mosque.

The incident came barely two weeks after armed bandits launched an attack on a mosque in Bali local government council killing three persons and living others with various degrees of injuries.

The recent attack which took place on Monday in Maisamari town of Sardauna local government council in the Mambilla Plateau, as gathered by our correspondent, occurred at about 7:25 pm when the Muslims were observing their Ishaa prayers in the mosque.

The gunmen, who were alleged to have stormed the mosque in their numbers, were said to have been shooting sporadically, leading to the death of the district head.

Our source who gave the name of the deceased district head as Alhaji Abdulkadir Maisamari said several worshippers also escaped with various degrees of injuries.

Unlike the attack that took place in Bali council where several worshippers were abducted, the attackers could not kidnap anybody.

Another source who also craved anonymity told our correspondent that the activities of hoodlums in the area are becoming unbearable for the people who according to him, have not been going to bed with their two eyes closed.

He urged the state government and the security operatives to put in place measures that will cripple the activities of hoodlums who he said: “are bandits fleeing from other parts of the country to Taraba.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Usman Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, could not give more details, as the Divisional Police Officer of the area, according to him, is still being expected to reach out to the command with more information.

PoliticsNorthern Elders Bemoan Insecurity, Ask Buhari To Resign by Kuginzi(op): 5:09am On Apr 13, 2022
The Northern Elders Forum on Tuesday asked the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to resign for failing to provide security in the country.

The forum made the demand in a statement by its spokesperson, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.

It said it was disappointing that after nearly seven years of being in office, Buhari still has no answers to security challenges across the country.

The statement read, “The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari does not appear to have answers to the challenges of security to which we are exposed.

We cannot continue to live and die under the dictates of killers, kidnappers, rapists and sundry criminal groups that have deprived us of our rights to live in peace and security.

“Our constitution has provisions for leaders to voluntarily step down if they are challenged by personal reasons or they prove incapable of leading.

It is now time for President Buhari to seriously consider that option, since his leadership has proved spectacularly incapable of providing security over Nigerians. Our forum is aware of the weight of this advice, and it is also aware that we cannot continue to live under these conditions until 2023 when President Buhari’s term ends.

"Killers and other criminals appear to have sensed a paralysing vacuum at the highest levels of leadership, and they grow more confident and acquire more competence in subverting the State and our security.

“Nigerians have shed enough tears and blood without appropriate response from those with responsibilities to protect us."

PoliticsTwo Major Lies In Osinbajo’s Declaration Speech--Farooq A. Kperogi by Kuginzi(op): 9:32pm On Apr 12, 2022
Earlier on Monday, Osinbajo, a senior pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in a short broadcast shared via his Twitter handle said that he would want to succeed his principal, Muhammadu Buhari and complete all that the All Progressives Congress government started seven years ago.

A United States-based Nigerian social critic, Prof Farooq Kperogi, says Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo’s presidential declaration speech contained “two barefaced lies.”
Earlier on Monday, Osinbajo, a senior pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in a short broadcast shared via his Twitter handle said that he would want to succeed his principal, Muhammadu Buhari and complete all that the All Progressives Congress government started seven years ago.

In the past seven years, I have served as Vice President under a true Nigerian patriot, a servant of the nation in war and peace, and a man of integrity, President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We have, together, worked through some of the most difficult times in the history of our Nation, but we have remained focused on securing the country, providing infrastructure and growing our economy,” he had said.
In a lengthy article via his social media page on Monday, Kperogi, a professor of Journalism and Emerging Media at Kennesaw State University in Georgia said Osinbajo “is a compulsively narrow-minded, intolerant, Christian fanatic who nurses a noxious, deep-rooted loathing for Muslims.”

He added, Yemi Osinbajo’s underwhelming, grammatically error-ridden, self-sabotaging presidential declaration speech contains two barefaced lies.

The first major lie is his claim that he has “been to practically all local governments in Nigeria.” The lie is too self-evident to need further elucidation from me.

But the second major lie, which concerns me more than the first, is his claim that he wants a Nigeria “where the man from Nnewi sees the man in Gusau as his brother, where the woman in Warri sees the woman in Jalingo as her sister, where the love of our nation burns alike in the hearts of boys and girls from Gboko to Yenogoa. Where everywhere in this land is home for everyone, where our diversities, tribes [sic] and faiths unite, rather than divide us.”

Let us examine his own record as Vice President. As I have repeatedly pointed out in the past few weeks, Osinbajo is a compulsively narrowminded, intolerant, Christian fanatic who nurses a noxious, deep-rooted loathing for Muslims (and, frankly, other Christian sects] and who sees his being in government as an opportunity to promote the supremacy of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), which I have characterized as his RCCGification project

So, let’s start. Although every political position he has ever occupied in life has been facilitated by Yoruba Muslims (i.e., Prince Bola Ajibola and Bola Tinubu), every consequential position he has had an opportunity to facilitate was given to an RCCG member.

In 2015, when he was given an opportunity to nominate a minister, he presented Okechukwu Enelamah, an RCCG pastor, who became Minister of Industry, Trade & Investment until 2019.

His spokesperson, Laolu Akande, was an RCCG pastor in New York. Like many RCCG pastors in the U.S., he relocated to Nigeria to feed fat on the Pentecostal paradise that Osinbajo has created for his kind. I’ve learned that Akande’s parish in New York has now closed.

As Vice President, Osinbajo is in charge of the economy, and all the major appointments he has influenced in government agencies under the economy have been given to RCCG pastors.

For example, when he was asked to nominate a chairman for the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), he nominated Babatunde Fowler, an RCCG pastor.

How about the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE)? You guessed right: another RCCG pastor by the name of Alex Ayoola Okoh.

When it came time to appoint someone to be MD and CEO of Nigeria's Bank of Industry (BOI), guess again who Osinbajo nominated. Yep, another RCCG pastor by the name of Olukayode Pitan who has turned the BOI into an RCCG church. I’ve been given a dossier of the happenings there and will share them at the appropriate time.

His RCCGification isn’t limited to government appointments. He also parlays his symbolic currency as VP into an opportunity to put RCCG members as university vice chancellors and traditional rulers in Yorubaland.

There’s currently tension in Ogbomoso because Osinbajo influenced the imposition of an RCCG pastor by the name of Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun of Ogbomoso. Olaoye is an RCCG pastor in Maryland, USA.

And Osinbajo has been accused of hatching another plot to impose an RCCG pastor as the Akinrun of Ikirun, a historic Muslim town in Osun State. Although I don’t think there’s any credibility to this accusation, it nonetheless resonates in Muslim Yorubaland because it fits the pattern of Osinbajo’s RCCGification efforts in the region.

The list of RCCG pastors Osinbajo has caused to be appointed into government is deep, long, and wide. Almost without exception, every opportunity Osinbajo has had to appoint someone to a consequential position, he has unfailingly given it to an RCCG pastor.

That was precisely what he meant when, according to Vanguard, he told Apostolic Christian leaders in Lagos on Nov. 4, 2016, that his vice presidency “is our [i.e., Christian leaders’] first opportunity. This is our first shot at it. We need to maximize it and do the best we can. I think what my nomination and appointment have done is that it has open [sic] the door for us. We can do it and we can be influential in doing it.”

Yet this vile, shameless, emotionally stunted bigot has the gall to barefacedly lie to Nigerians that he wants a Nigeria “where our diversities, tribes [sic] and faiths unite, rather than divide us.”

No, he doesn’t. He wants to establish a Pentecostal RCCG republic. If that’s what Nigerians want, good luck!

PoliticsMC Oluomo’s Boys, Tricycle Members Clash Over Park, Ticket Sales by Kuginzi(op): 5:21am On Apr 12, 2022
A clash between suspected loyalists of the Chairman, Lagos State Parks and Garages Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, and members of the Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria, has caused tension in the Fagba, Ogba and Agege areas of Lagos State.

The clash was said to have bordered on the control of parks and ticket sales at various transport union branches under the control of TOOAN.

PUNCH Metro gathered that members of TOOAN were working at their respective branches when suspected loyalists of Akinsanya stormed the parks in a bid to dislodge them, which led to a fight.

The Chairman, TOOAN, Branch J, Agege, Opeyemi Taiwo, said the attack started around 7.30am, adding that her members were injured and property destroyed.

She said, “We had heard that MC Oluomo’s boys would be coming to attack and take over our parks and we reported at the Pen Cinema and Iju police stations, and at the Area G Police Command.

“They are working for vehicles and we work under TOOAN, and our focus is on tricycle operations. We initially thought that they would invite the chairmen for a dialogue, but they didn’t. They just came with over 100 hoodlums, armed with guns, cutlasses, bottles, and they started attacking us.

“We had to look for a way to escape, but some of our unlucky members were injured and rushed to hospitals. The hoodlums even burnt a tricycle; they told us to vacate our parks as they are now in charge of parks and garages.”

The state Chairman, TOOAN, Azeez Abiola, aka Istijabah, while condemning the invasion, said MC Oluomo’s boys had taken over the parks controlled by TOOAN in the affected areas, adding that he instructed his members to vacate the parks to avoid needless deaths.

He added, “We saw traces of MC Oluomo’s attempt to take over the parks on Saturday when he came to have a meeting with a monarch in the area. During the meeting, he declared that he would take over parks in Ojoko and Ifako on Monday.

“We reliably gathered that the monarch gave MC Oluomo the names of his boys to include as part of the people that would be in charge after taking over our parks. We had been circulating that MC Oluomo was coming to cause trouble and this morning, his boys, who came on motorcycles, shot, attacked our members and took over our parks.

Our members were injured. The parks they collected were up to seven. MC Oluomo insisted that nothing would be done; he is the one that will take over parks controlled by TOOAN and will be collecting money for ticket sales.

“Since NURTW has been suspended in the state, TOOAN has been operating and we are not under the Lagos State Parks and Garages Committee, so the government should intervene on our behalf so he can let us rest.”

A spokesperson for Akinsanya, Jimoh Buari, said his boss’ visit to the monarch had nothing to do with the takeover of parks and garages in the state.

He said, “If they want to take over garages, is a monarch the right person to visit? The monarch is not in charge of garages and can never give them a go-ahead to take over garages. MC Oluomo only went on a courtesy visit to the monarch and there is nowhere he goes, if his boys are in the area, they will check on him.

The government has already made a pronouncement as to what it wants in the state. We are not the ones responsible for the attack.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said no life was lost in the clash, adding that the police did not arrest any suspect.

He said, “Hooded miscreants disturbing vehicular movement at Iju-Fagba took to their heels when they sighted RRS patrol teams deployed to complement the efforts of policemen from nearby divisions.”

PoliticsWhy PDP Will Lose 2023 Elections – Ex-kaduna Gov, Yero by Kuginzi(op): 6:09pm On Apr 10, 2022
By Ochogwu Sunday

A Former Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Yero, has called on stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to unite themselves ahead of the 2023 general elections to enable the party sweep polls.

Yero, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Kaduna, said the party may lose the elections if the members fail to unite.

He said it was imperative for the party members to unite to win upcoming elections in the country.

He said, “It is important for the PDP family to come together to rescue the country.

“We must eschew all bitterness and put personal interests aside and look at the collective interest of Nigerians as well as the party.

So that when Nigeria becomes a better country, all of us will rejoice and will be happy with the situation.

“But if we continue to fight each other and only promote our personal interests, we will end up losing.”

Yero also admonished the youths to use the 2023 elections to establish themselves as “true leaders of tomorrow.”

Crime2023: Enugu Turning To Battleground – Ohanaeze Condemns Violence, Tasks by Kuginzi(op): 4:32pm On Apr 10, 2022
By Emmanuel Uzodinma

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has condemned the violence that marred the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, meetings in some local government areas in Enugu State.

DAILY POST reported that PDP meetings in Nsukka and Aninri local government areas turned violent, leaving many injured.

In Nsukka, the fracas was said to have ensued between those for and those against the 5th term bid of Hon. Pat Asadu, representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South in the House of Representatives.

Asadu is facing serious opposition over his move to return to the Green Chamber for a record 5th time.

In Aninri, the violence was between supporters of two camps within the PDP over the 2023 governorship election in the state.

Both incidents left casualties.

In a statement made available to journalists in Enugu, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, Worldwide, OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he described the development as unacceptable.

Okwu said it was sad that Enugu was returning to the dark days.

He warned that if those behind the mayhem did not retrace their steps, Enugu would soon become a theatre of war.

"What happened in Enugu State on Saturday is most condemnable and unacceptable. We can’t understand that some days to the primary election, Enugu has become a battlefield.

"The Coal City has been one of the safest states in Nigeria, but it is gradually losing that status because of the desperation of some politicians.

"The Enugu State Government must rise to the occasion and show that it did not endorse what happened on Saturday. It must collaborate with security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.

Okwu expressed concern that “worst days may be ahead in Enugu State with what we saw on Saturday. It all depends on how the Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi handles these developments. The Governor should call those behind this to order as the Chief Security officer of the State.

"We call on the commissioner of Police, Enugu state to unravel those behind this dastardly act.”

He sympathized with those that were wounded during the incident, especially the member representing Aninri State constituency.

Meanwhile, Okwu also called on Igbo youths to resist the temptation of being used by politicians to achieve their desperate ambition.

"This is a time for youths to take up leadership positions and not to be used as thugs. Politicians should use their own children to perpetuate thuggery. We must all rise and say no to this madness,” he declared.

PoliticsBiafra: Ohanaeze Beg Buhari To End Judicial Battle Between Nnamdi Kanu, FG by Kuginzi(op): 5:43pm On Apr 09, 2022
By Tunji Adedeji

The apex Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has appealed to President Mohammadu Buhari to apply nationalistic and patriotic approach in order to end the judicial battle between Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) and federal government.

The youth group implored Buhari to play a fatherly role, thereby being patriotic in tackling the protracted issue as it regards Kanu, pointing out that such would in no doubt, resuscitate the visibly dying consciousness of the new generation of the Igbo extraction.

OYC stated this in a release made available to DAILY POST on Saturday by its National President, Comrd. Igboayaka O. Igboayaka in Owerri, Imo State capital.

The release reads “Nigeria today is evidently characterized by socio-cultural and political injury, ethnic jingoism, and regional marginalization. And the signal of insecurity in Northern Nigeria and agitation in the Southern part of Nigeria should be seen as a call for meditation and reflection by every concerned Nigerian.

“The government of president Muhammadu Buhari can make a choice that will trigger jubilation in the country by acting fatherly and patriotic in the case of Nnamdi Kanu, by seeing the release of Nnamdi Kanu as his fatherly responsibility which will reawaken the consciousness of new generation of Igbo extraction that Nigeria can survive in a round table of dialogue instead in the theater of war.”

The Igbo group emphasized that sincerity, justice and fairness were the basic factors required for a reinvigorated and successful Nigeria

OYC further said president Mohammadu Buhari should demonstrate sincerity in pursuing Nigerian Unity, by knowing that releasing Nnamdi Kanu will bring news of a rebirth of Nigeria.

“The quest for fairness and justice of the Igbo new generation in Nigeria political project should be given a holistic approach which will metamorphose into reintegration of the Separatist groups, by applying fairness justice in all that led to the call of secession in Nigeria,” Igboayaka stated.

Our appeal to President Mohammadu Buhari is to earnestly consider the political solution to the case of Nnamdi Kanu as presented by Prof. Amb. George Obiozor and other eminent Nigerians as a catalyst that will stimulate national peace and Unity.”

The Igbo youths urged all Pro-Biafran groups for a ballot revolution in Igbo land in the 2023 general election, which he noted optimistically would retire the “gangs of political criminals in Igbo land.

The youth group, lamented that the hike in agitation by IPOB was borne out of the extant political negligence of Igbo politicians, “the primitive accumulation of public Wealth by Igbo governors, senators, house of representatives members, house of assembly, commissioners, ministers.

These were factors that led to underdevelopment, poverty, death, insecurity and unemployment in Igbo land.”

PoliticsInsecurity: Buhari Can’t Hold AK-47 To Secure Live In Every State – Yahaya Bello by Kuginzi(op): 10:55pm On Apr 08, 2022
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has said that President Muhammadu Buhari cannot hold an AK-47 rifle or be in every state of the federation to ensure the security of lives and property when there are chief executives in place in the states.

The governor said this while challenging all governors in Nigeria to take responsibility for security in their states amid the security challenges facing the country.

Bello said he did not expect the President to secure Kogi as a governor and had put a lot in place to bring crime to almost zero in his state.

He stated this on Friday in Abuja at his Second Annual GYB Seminar for Nigeria’s Political and Crime Editors and Correspondents.

I’m not a governor that will expect the President to secure my state,” Bello said.

“I refused to politicize insecurity. Buhari is a man who loves truth and reality. I’ll let you know that the President loves this country.

“This insecurity isn’t a thing of the President though we should not pass the buck because that is why we came on board. It’s a successive failure of various administrations.

“The President will not sit in the Villa and hold an AK-47 to come and secure my schools and roads.
Some of these crimes that we see today are more than what we see on the surface. I will never come out here and point out the flaws. Whatever I observe, in terms of loopholes and lapses, it’s between myself and the President to let him know.

“I will never be that governor who will come out and say that the President didn’t secure my schools and roads.”

Politics2023: PDP Has Committed Suicide – Ohanaeze by Kuginzi(op): 5:05am On Apr 07, 2022
Says party betrayed S’East throwing ticket open.

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a betrayer saying it committed political suicide by throwing its 2023 presidential ticket.

open to all aspirants, irrespective of geopolitical zone.

A 37-member zoning committee of the PDP, chaired by Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom in its report to the National Working Committee of the party failed to zone the slot.

But President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, George Obiozor wondered why the PDP decided to jettison zoning when it was the turn of the South, and particularly the South East.

He described the decision as “unconscionable political blunder and betrayal” of the Igbo given the price they have paid supporting the party over the years.

Obiozor stated this in a statement signed by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia condemning “in its entirety the political suicide that has been committed by the PDP by its position on zoning.”

For purpose of clarity, he stated that rotation and zoning principle was engrained into the PDP’s Constitution in 2009.

According to him, article 7 (2) (c) of the PDP Constitution states: ‘In pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness, the party shall adhere to the policy of rotation and zoning of party and public elective offices, and it shall be enforced by the appropriate executive committee at all levels.’

He said that such unscrupulous violation of the zoning principle that has been well entrenched in the PDP constitution simply changed the rules of the game in order to deprive Ndigbo the opportunity to produce a president for Nigeria.

Obiozor said history was never kind to betrayers and the treacherous, stressing that the machinations and conspiracies to deny the Igbo their due place in Nigeria was an ingratitude that daily cried to God.

He urged all the Igbo presidential aspirants to remain focused and undaunted because of the PDP shenanigans, pointing out that history will always vindicate the just.

"Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide reiterates the position of the Southern and Middle Belt Leadership Forum led by Chief E K Clark that any party that does not zone it presidential ticket to the south should not expect the support of the Middle Belt and the entire South. It is therefore curious that the PDP should commit political hara-kiri at a time it is struggling for a fresh air. It is unfortunate that the PDP glomourises inordinate ambitions; any political ambition that undermines nation building should be checkmated.

"Let it be known that it runs contrary to the indomitable Igbo spirit to swallow any form of indignity, disdain or condescension from anybody or group. It is therefore highly inconceivable that the Igbo will validate a party or group that runs roughshod over its sensibilities.”

Reacting to Ohaneze Ndigbo’s assertion that the PDP has committed political suicide by throwing its presidential ticket open to all zones, , Afenifere said it would not be drawn into the partisan affairs of what the party did or did not do.

But, the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Jare Ajayi, however, reiterated the position adopted by the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), under the leadership of Chief Edwin Clerk and the Southern Governors Forum led by Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu that power should shift to the south in 2023.

President of the MBF, Dr. Pogu Bitrus, agreed with Ohanze’s position that what the PDP had done amounted to a political suicide.

"We said we would campaign against any political party that chose a northern candidate and if through this open process, a northern candidate emerges, it would amount to a political suicide because the Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF), Ohaneze, Afenifere and Middle Belt Forum will all campaign against the candidate, and that, by implication, means that PDP is gone. So, throwing the contest open actually amounts to a political suicide unless if they succeed in electing a southern candidate during the primary,” he said.

However, President of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Yerima Shettima disagreed with Ohaneze’s assertion of PDP committing political suicide saying there was nothing like political suicide in what the PDP has done.

He said on the contrary, the party’s action amounts to justice, equity and fairness.

The party knew that it was morally wrong to zone the presidency to the south; it also has no moral right to zone it to the north. The last president came from the south and in the 16 years of PDP in power, the north has only three years. And if you combine Buhari’s administration as a northerner, though from the APC, together with that of late Umar Musa Yar’Adua of the PDP, and you zone the presidency to the south, some of us will still feel that the right thing was not done and justice was done to the north. The south cannot have 14 and half years in power while the north has 10 and half years and they say justice has been done to the north; there is nothing justice about that.”

He questioned the imperatives of zoning saying, “In what way has the zoning favoured anybody since we started it Nigeria? Look at what we are going through in Nigeria today. I has never favoured anybody and that is why we are saying that enough is enough. Let us begin to look at competence, no matter where the person comes from, rather than zoning.”

Ortom said the committee only submitted its recommendations to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), which has the final decision on whether the presidential ticket should be zoned to the south or north or thrown open to aspirants from all geopolitical zones of the country.

He stated this on a Channels Television programme, yesterday.

“I want to repeat that the committee’s work at our own level has been concluded; it is now left for the NEC to decide on what they think is the best for the party and Nigerians. We have just made a recommendation to the NEC, but it will now take a final decision. I think that NEC will soon invite us to a meeting because in any case most members of the committee are also members of NEC. So, at NEC, there will be robust discussions on what will help Nigerians and what will help the party to win in 2023,” Ortom said.

On whether the party had not taken the wrong step by contemplating whether to jettison zoning or abide by it as has been the tradition of the party, Ortom said: “We have not shot ourselves in the foot and we will not do that. We listen to the people; we are grassroots-oriented and we want to make sure that whatever we do reflects the interests of our people in the PDP and the interests of Nigerians.”

Although he agreed that there could be some dissenting voices if zoning is finally jettisoned based on where such persons come from and their collective interests within their constituency, Ortom said at the end of the day, they would still come together and look at the larger picture of winning the 2023 presidential election.

Politics2023: I Guarantee Victory If Given Ticket, Wike Tells PDP by Kuginzi(op): 5:22pm On Apr 06, 2022
The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said he has the capacity to take power from the All Progressives Congress come 2023 and that if the Peoples Democratic Party must win, he should be given the ticket to contest.

Wike made the statement while speaking on Tuesday in Gombe where visited stakeholders of the PDP as part of ongoing consultations ahead of the party’s presidential primary election.

He asked the stakeholders, that, as delegates at the party’s convention, they should not waste their votes on candidates who could not win the 2023 general election.

Wike said, “If you want PDP to win election in 2023, I have made myself available. Give me the ticket, let me go and take the power for you. We are talking about who can take this power from APC. That person is me.”

"We need to salvage this country. Let us not pretend about it. Insecurity does not know religion. Insecurity does not know ethnicity. Poverty does not know ethnicity. Poverty does not know religion.

“The people who come to kill us, do they look at who is a Christian? Do they look at who is a Moslem? Do they know who is Hausa-Fulani? Do they know who is Igbo? We are dying.

"So, it is not for sentiment. It is not for people to come and tell you, look, it must come from here, no, no. It is for those who have the capacity. If given the opportunity, I will replicate what I’ve done in Rivers State as President of Nigeria.”

The governor also questioned the APC-led administration its claim of disbursing over N300 billion into agriculture, asking where the food produced was.

“They said they have given over N300 billion for agriculture. I have no problem with that. Even if they have spent N1 trillion, where is the food?” Wike asked.

“I don’t want people going to buy rice and doing pyramid. I want to see to it that agriculture is working,” he said.
