How do you stop yourself laughing at half-three am, in the night?
This thread funny and "wicked" no be small! grin

My story:
Bought a V-Boot some decades back and took it home same day; culvert to my home cant carry weight of the car and have to leave it on road-side overnight! Between changing my shirt and having a quick bath (10mins max) front grill was yanked-off! I nearly collapse! (My Mum was suposed to "admire" the car the following day!

Same car, coming from work along Osborne Rd, ikoyi, trying to link 3rd mainland.
As usual, close of work traffic was a crawl around 6:30pm.
Three guys came with hammer and that "smallish, fish-cutlass"! I refused to open the doors.

They broke my rear side-window and attacked one of my two female colleagues, sitting at the back seat!
(Lesson here: always carry at least one male colleague, if you drive in hold-ups on the way home! wink )

My sanity snapped when l looked back and saw blood on 'her' head (smashed a hammer into her skull!).
I switched off engine, took Pliers from my glove and went to confront them.
I was just hacking away and could hear 'crushing bone' each time l swung the Pliers.
Threw one overboard into the swamp just before that White Sand estate.
The Other two fled and l discovered that one of my ears was dangling and precariously attached to my head!

I carry my "souvenir ear" till today but it "reduced my 'humanity and respect for the blood of others', a wee bit"!
I wish it did not happen and l wish l did not have to do it.

BTW: Lagosians are cruel peeps! In all, the fight that lasted at least ten minutes, in heavy traffic, not one single soul came down from their car to assist me! angry angry

Sorry bruv,
Let me ask: When YeKing scored, (he practically followed the ball inside the Net), he stayed and celebrated "inside the Net", that was our first goal at a "world Cup" proper. In what way was that "act of celebration" selfish, on the part of YeKing?

Was it not "team mates" that "run to the scorer" to celebrate with him and he in turn, will acknowledge their contribution?
Is it supposed to be the other way round as you are suggesting?

I will have no doubt that YeKing has some "deep-rooted issues" that bother on "Social Skills" as his level of education and exposure is not the best
but my-oh-my, was he "Gifted and Special"?

This "issues" affected his club career, no doubt.

Business › Re: A Narrow Escape (ATM Story): Please Read And Be Informed! by lastpage: 7:09pm On Jul 11, 2011
One thing l do is this:

1.) I put "good cash" in a Savings account at the same bank l have my current account.
2.) My ATM card is attached to my Current account ONLY.
3.) The current account never contains more than 45K, maximum single withdrawal with ATM is 40K
4.) I regularly move money" from my savings (No COT account) to my current account, only as the need arises. Quick-in, Quick-Out! grin
5.) I do #4 "online" from my bedroom, ONLY from my "Home DeskTop", (Never from my phone or Laptop, incase they get nicked!)

Even if l am to be "skimmed", the best they would get is the 5K that is left behind after my "last withdrawal", l have been doing this since ATM came into being and l have never lost a penny till date wink

As I type this, there are even tiny, sophisticated hand-held skimming devices in the market now that can be used on unsuspecting victims to 'ferry' their hard earned cash from their bank accounts without them ever suspecting anything. Again I say 'be vigilant' because there have been several such cases in the US and in the UK especially that occured in restaurants, fast food shops, petrol/gas stations, shopping malls and most ATM's not situated within bank premises.
In fact, the "equipments are so sophisticated now, especially with the advent of "bluetooth"  grin

Let me share an experience.
Me and my pal bought some things and were about to leave the Departmental Store when we noticed "this pretty lady" who just parked her car, a few cars from mine and my friend "developed interest" (Not me, l am happily married with nice kids, l swear!).

She took her handbag and dumped it in the "boot of her car" with some other valuables.
As a standard rule, we also keep valuables in the boot of our car, safer than back-seat or pigeon hole.

She locked her car, we are certain of that 'cos we heard the sound (puun-pun) and the trafficator blinked twice!

To our surprise, just as she stepped into the store that we just came out of, two guys came from nowhere and pointed this "gadget" at her car and pronto, THE CAR WAS UNLOCKED!
We stared at ourselves in disbelief! We were still shell-shocked as we watched the guys carry the handbag, the other valuable things in the boot, then one of them went inside the car's compartment and yanked-off the Tom-Tom navigator attached o the windscreen!

I guess that is when we "sojjii" that this is a "Tiger-Raid"!
My "love-smitten" friend was the first to accost them and asked if they new the lady (l am not surprised that was his first question, he later confessed he wanted to know if one of them was her boyfriend! )

To cut long story short, the guys tried to use bravado but when we asked them her "plate Number", they  both had to look first and even then, it was hard for them to repeat it instantly! When an argument was about ensuing, they tried to take-off in their car but when l noticed a "working" laptop inside their car, l knew something serious was wrong. I blocked them with my car, unknown to us, the car park's CCTV camera captured everything.

The guys forcefully drove away, damaging my car in the process.

The Police came at about the same time the lady came out of the store and she almost fainted on seeing her car boot open! Within ten minutes, we heard the guys were picked-up by Police Patrol car, not too far off.

The Police later told us (Insurance claim, Police report, e.t.c ensured we were privy to the investigation and prosecution of the guys) that they used a "Skimming Device" that CAPTURED  the blue-tooth signal" used in locking the car! The signal goes from the Key-fob,to the car's locking system and they simply intercepted and captured it en-route!
shocked shocked

Now, l never use that "puun-pun" Keyfob to lock my car, l use the Key, as in old school style! wink wink

For all our effort, the lady is "in the bag now" and she is really worth the trouble, at least to my Pal grin grin

I hope everyone who has not heard of this style, and still uses "KeyFob to puun-pun their car"  grin (to lock their car safely), will have a rethink.
Cheers.

Nigeria banks need to upgrade their ATM machine to the newer models which were designed to combat this kind of crime.
If you had swiped that card, you would have had your account cleaned out fast, and possibly your identity stolen for use in committing major jailable fraud on the global stage.

Say NO to ALL credit cards and ATM cards. Pay CASH for all your purchases, and withdraw that cash the old-fashioned way - over the counter of a bank.

With those basic fiscal security measures observed at all times, you will only have the armed robbers, muggers and kidnappers to worry about.
These are just a few of the issues we asked Sanusi, the CBN Guvnor, to allow the country tackle first before his hair-brained policy on 150K maximum cash withdrawal

*Lets have more ATM's, the modern ones of course!
*Lets have "improved" security for the ATM's, wherever they are
*Lets have good "stable" internet penetration, especially in the hinterlands
*Lets have "stable" power supply, that one applies to the whole country! grin
*Lets thread cautiously, "cashless society" is not our most pressing problem right now, even though it is desirable!

Let Mallam Lamido Sanusi see reason and not wage "economic war" on Nigerians, especially in the South, where he chose to slaughter his Guinea Pigs!

@Outstrip
Quite a large number of the American population sees death penalty as barbaric. I am just interested on what evidence they have against her. is it just poisoned candy that they have or is there any other compelling evidence. The guy who was executed in texas bludgeoned a kid to death. There was more than enough evidence there. This case is not so clear. I'd hate to see an innocent person die because people are blood thirsty
I agree with you, the worst thing that could happen, and l would rather the guilty go unpunished (afterall, there is karma!), than have an innocent wo(man) be punished!
Justice, swings both ways an that’s why it’s a “Scale”.

Having said that, on the weight of information made available in the News, l think she has “good legal representation” and the case was well “battled” even up to the supreme court (l wish everyone has that option!) thus to be found guilt by all three levels of the Justice system (not just some policeman pronouncing her guilty), speaks volume!

I can safely assume that if we get all the facts out, there is more than compelling evidence, for the 7-man jury not to be swayed.
Here, we are relying on the expectation that the many judges whom this case has passed through, are “honest and fair”.
Why should we doubt them, in this particular case?

Every case that carries the death Penalty (criminal cases in general) MUST BE PROVED BEYOND EVERY REASONABLE DOUBT, otherwise, the court will err on the side of the accused, unlike in civil law.
You can glean that from the “Casey Anthony case”: Even though every American thinks she was guilty, the Prosecutor could not “prove her guilt, beyond reasonable doubt” and she was free of murder!

Let us try to get the “details of the court proceedings” before raising an eyebrow at the judge, the court and the 9yrs it took for the jury to come to a conclusion of death by hanging. They (jury) don’t hate her, do they?

Very informative contributions from everyone, especially that "lecture" by fhemmy!

If l may add my piece, the thing about "high mileage" comes in when it goes far-far above average.
Like the Average is 15KMiles/year so, a 5yrs car should average75K miles but when it now clocks 120Kmiles, what does that tell you?

1.) Could have been a former Taxi. The rate of wear in taxi Engine is considered excessive due to the nature of what it does

2.) Could have been a Tour Vehicle (i typically avoid cars with a Tow-bar or signs of it at the back) since its not only carrying its "normal weight" but added to it, is the weight of the trailer it draws! This is an "Engine Killer", in the long run.

Strangely, for some queer reasons, Nigerians seem to like cars with the Tow-bar grin
Some guy told me it is helpful, incase you get hammered from behind and God help you, if you're the one hammering one from behind! shocked wink

Having said that, l guess one of the most important thing to look for is the "Service History" of the car you're buying.

A well serviced car, even with slightly higher mileage, all things being equal, is as good or even better than some bangas l have seen grin

Another 'argument' l want guys to wade into is the "age" of the vehicle.
I have personally inspected and seen 3yr old cars (like an 'O7) that looks and drives worse than a 7yr old ('03 reg).
Does it all boil down to "usage and proper and timely servicing" by the previous user(s)?

Single user in general, is better than 3 or 4 previous users, as l understand.

Cheers.

Following the Supreme Court’s approval of Miss Rabi Ismail’s death sentence  in Abuja, Nollywood stars have described the death penalty  as ‘ barbaric and outdated” and therefore appealed  to the government to temper justice with mercy.
@Kate Henshaw
Also reacting to the judgment, actress Kate Henshaw-Nuttal described it as “barbaric  and unacceptable in this 21st century.” Expressing shock, she muted ,”it’s terrible and I don’t subscribe to it. It’s barbaric  in this 21st century. We shouldn’t  be asking  government to temper mercy with justice. ”

Government should tamper justice with mercy. We  are not in the medieval age.”
For AMP president, Paul Obazele who was dumbfounded upon hearing the news, death penalty should  be unthinkable.
See, No wonder these peeps are not Medical Doctors, Engineers, Computer Scientist, Architects, Actuarial Scientist, e.t.c

@bountyxs
The Christian banking system
Christians, especially the Nigerian ones have never failed to amuse me. Rather than keep quiet and appear silly, they prefer to open their mouths and confirm it. How would you explain the insipid cry against the Islamic banking system about to take root in Nigeria by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). This group of political jobbers headed by Ayo Oritsejafor has always been looking for relevance in the scheme of things. Mbang was the major internal diplomat for Obasanjo’s misrule while poor Oritsejafor, who failed to make the billionaires’ list has been Goodluck Jonathan’s chief advocate. He made really unguarded statements during the April elections and the post election violence. His cronies have now started crying against a system that seeks to liberate the poor from the major benefactors of the pastors. What will drive an aged pastor to carry placard against Islamic banking if not that it threatens his purse.
Erastus Akingbola, Samuel Adegbite, Cecilia Ibru and the other thieves in high places will be short of funds to give Adeboye and his ilk to print the ‘Our Daily Bread” series. Islamic banking makes funds available and accessible for us, without any recourse to the interest-eating-killer banks.
If your religion doesn’t have a way out for the poor, if your religion says virtually nothing about finance, if all you talk about in churches is how people will make fortunes (to deliver to your coffers anyway); then let the way of life that has a guidance, and is willing to help us stay.
Welcome, Islamic banking!
Hi Bountyxs,
I am Christian by faith and l hope l can "discuss" the above with you without incurring your anger or insults?
You went out of your way to insult Christians in your comment up there!
You know, lets just share views and compare ideas!
Okay, here we go.
I want to observe that every rational-thinking person will love to obtain a bank-loan that is interest free and as such, everyone should be onboard concerning Islamic banking, if all it implies is just that? : Interest-free banking!
Question is: why are some still not buying it?
Is it just because they are non-Muslims or there is more to it than what you stated above?

Well, let me say that what most people are against or are uncomfortable with is the "must be Sharia compliant part" of the bank!

*What does this mean?
*What does it mean for a secular state like Nigeria ("Secular" implies "state is separate from Religion". It does not mean "Religion-less"wink
*What does this portend for a Non-Muslims ?
*How does this affect such non-Muslims who dont subscribe to anything Sharia?
*Being "secular", should public officials (Like Sanusi) be caught promoting religion or "religious packages", of any type, in a "Public position/capacity"? (as against in "personal life"wink
*What does it portend for our country if we begin to operate "economic policies" based on Religion, knowing how religiously diverse we are?
*Since we are all for "interest free banking", is there a way the "Sharia compliant part" can be removed, since we are not all for Sharia?

Or are we saying we cannot have an interest-free banking UNLESS it is Sharia compliant?

Mind you, l am not condemning Sharia as a "religious practice of Muslims", l just dont subscribe to it "based on my own faith".
Muslims are entitled to personally practice Sharia, if that is what they want.

I hope l have emphasized enough, the difference between "the personal and the official" practice of one's faith, in a secular society?

Now, its very easy to say "if you are not Sharia compliant" then just go away or go somewhere else!.

But how would it sound if in the past, GTB or Oceanic or Zenith or Inter Continental, e.t.c have said if you cannot recite the "Lords prayer", you cannot work or bank wit us? (a kind of you're not "Holy Ghost compliant"! grin )

Very unfair, you would have said!

Thats why they did not "include their religion" in an economic endeavor like banking, because they need to consider our Muslim brothers as well.
We cant just tell them to "f.uck-off", the way some of our Muslim brothers are telling us now! wink

What do you think?

@BinghyNya
@ hypocrites,

Did Jonathan kneel or crouch before the chief imam of Nigeria as he did before Adeboye. Is he not a leader, did muslims protest then. Hypocrites.
I'll leave the hypocrites part out for now. I want to shed light on a few other things you raised.
Jonathan kneel before Adeboye (a Christian spiritual leader) and did not do same before the Chief Iman of Nigeria.
The Question is "Why and is this right"?
Lets reason together:

Jonathan is a Christian by faith. Like any of us, he is entitled to exercise his faith, "PERSONALLY, AS JONATHAN", but not as Mr. President!

So, kneeling down for Adeboye, was he doing so "as President of Nigeria" or personally as "Dr. Jonathan Goody"? That is the crux of the matter!

lets see: As a President, he is the number one citizen of this country, even far higher than Dr. Adeboye or anyone, officially speaking.
(His bowing, if it was say on the National day parade of Oct 1st, Adeboye would have to bow to Jonathan, like everyone else, in that parade!
At that point, he is the "President and he is on duty"!)

So, kneeling down for Adeboye itself shows that he is NOT doing it, as President of Nigeria
but as Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. It was a private pilgrimage, so to say.

Again, as President, He represents everyone (from Muslims, to Christians, to Animist and the Atheist!) thus, he cannot "officially propagate" a particular religion. The key word here is "officially"
. HOW?
For example, he cannot decide that we must all recite the lords prayer before we can have our file treated at a Government Ministry!
He cannot decide that his Ministers must pray to Christ at the FEC meetings!
That would be him "as President" promoting a religion, his own.

But in all these, he is still a human being who is free to exercise his own faith in a personal capacity
, pray to his own God and 'adore" his own spiritual leader, just like a Catholic is free to recite the "hail Mary" and the Muslim, the Quoran!
This is the right he exercised in your quote. No big deal!! No hypocrisy
What would Muslims have been protesting over in that?

I am sure more than one of our past Muslim "Presidents/Head of States" have bowed to spiritual leaders like the Sultan or Chief Imam.
Can and did Christians protest on those occasions? No, they have no reason to!

Again, it only becomes wrong if they do so in official capacity, when performing official functions.

I hope l have shed light on the issue, what do you think?

Somehow, "When a chicken perches on a rope/line, both the chicken and the line will know no rest" (literally speaking)!

I guess these Boko Haram people are not "spirits" or Ghosts?
They live among the people in Maiduguri, the same people complaining see them everyday but decide not to identify them to security agents, right?

I guess they prefer to die from a suicide bomber than be "harassed" by a soldier doing his job?

Well, Now they have a choice: EXPOSE these Criminals or feel the heat, yourself!

If you cant do this, PLEASE MOVE-OUT AND LET THE SOLDIERS DEAL WITH THE REMAINING TERRORISTS, period!

Really, killing the soldiers is one provocation too many!
Some of these soldiers are Muslim brothers and could also be Northerners! Even if they are not, WTF?
Politics › Re: Obj Would Have (decisively)crushed Bokoharam - Labour Party by lastpage: 12:35am On Jul 08, 2011
Hmmm,.,.,.,cut GEJ some slack please!

1.) OBJ was a Military General (with all the alliances that go with it!)!

2.) OBJ was a two-time President with all the Power of incumbency and international "back rubbing"!

3). OBJ was a semi-illiterate, a "bricklayer" in the army ranks before he "coup-ed" his way to Power!.

4.) Like others have observed, Boko haram (religious idiocy used for political brinksmanship) is a different ball-game from the ND militancy!

Now, GEJ is an exact "opposite" of all the above!

A proverb says "You dont row rough, in a rough sea"!
Another one says "When a 'wicked fly' patches on your scrotum, you dont kill it with a sledge hammer"! (Stewpid peeps will and break their ball!)

Thus, GEJ has (and is) taking all these into account before acting!

Remember that our Police force cannot even engage armed robbers (they drop their Gun and shed their uniform, then run! grin ), how much more facing suicide bombers? huh

My guess is this:
a) GEJ buys time and develop our Security Intelligence" in the meantime

b) GEJ infiltrates the group over time, identifies their sponsor

c) Crushes them with a single blow, when the opportunity arrives.

d) He would rather "engage them peacefully" for now, hoping he can prevent further confrontation and final bloodbath.

But as we all know,"Religion and violence" knows no repentance, having taken the "Opium of the masses"!

GEJ is educated and l will be disappointed if he goes about "flogging policemen in the public, like that crass OBJ"! grin grin

Two Phrases:
1.) Islamic banking
2.) Sharia-compliant

Mow, let us break it down.

1.)Is Nigeria is a secular state. Yes or No?
"secular" means the Govt does not "promote ANY religion". Each individual or group are at liberty to practice their religion, unhindered BUt with respect to the Constitution and without infringement on the rights of others. It does not mater "which religion" or "No Religion"!.

Yes, Nigeria is a secular State, Period.

2.) Is Making Sharia a "State Religion" (as done in some Northern states)  completely against our country's secular constitution? YES!
But for "political brinksmanship", people like Yerima Sanni still went ahead!
Some Muslim "leaders" even smuggled Nigeria into membership of an Islamic Organisation like OIC!
Imagine if Nigeria had a "Peaceful Protest" like in Bahrain and the OIC (like the gulf Cooperation Council, GCC did) decide to "send-in" Muslim soldiers, to "quell" such Protest

Few years down the line, we saw the bloody religious violence it has engendered! Now Boko Haram wants the whole of Nigeria "Sharia Compliant"! (lol)

Now, back to the questions.
Islamic banking: If what it means is "Interest-free banking", as we have said a thousand times, it is alright. Just get your license like any other bank an operate. But then, in a secular state, why put the word "Islamic" into something that is NOT RELIGIOUS!
banking has nothing to do with Religion otherwise we would by now have Pentecostal bank, Nasfat Bank, Islamia jamia Bank or Catholic Bank! (lol)

But again, if its all just "a name", then maybe it would not offend people's sensibilities.

2.)SHARIA COMPLIANT: To be "compliant" means to "obey and operate within the tenets of whatever you're supposed to be compliant with.

Thus, in a secular country, how do you operate a bank and say it must "obey and operate within Sharia rules and regulations"?
Are non-Muslims not right to be alarmed since flouting a "Sharia rule" could lead to loss of a leg, an arm or even being stoned to death!

Since Lamido Sanusi (A CBN Guvnor who is supposed to be an "unaligned and impartial" regulator of our banking sphere) has taken it upon himself to champion Islamic banking, and he being a Muslim, are Non-Muslims not supposed to be worried and suspicious that he is "promoting a religion" as part of his responsibilities (in violation of our secular constitution)?

Let us repeat again, NO one is against "Non-Profit Banking" whether established by a group of Muslims, Christian or atheist BUT it is completely against our Secular Constitution for a "Public officer" to be the one promoting such, as his impartiality and fairness will be called into question!
The way Sanusi's impartiality is now being questioned!

Except Sanusi's "secret agenda" is to promote the quicker break-up of this country, faster than it would have happened, he needs to thread softly.

So called "leaders and Public servant" in positions of trust needs to be sensible and implement policies that "cement" the fragile fabric of this country together, rather than engage in "reckless inflammatory actions", while thinking they are above the law!

Yes to "Interest-free banking", No to Sharia-compliant banking. Period.

Just my take.

BTW: @Negro-Ntns
Pork consumptioon is forbidden in the scriptures,.,.,.,.Practicing Jews will not allow you to touch any of their garment or personal effects and belongings with pork - that's just to give you a peek into how far they distance from it. But they will give you money to buy it and eat or produce it for other christians to consume. You will of course pay interest on the loan.
Dont speak about what you know NOTHING ABOUT!
The Jews practice "Judaism" as their Religion, they are NOT CHRISTIANS or cant you get it after all these years of "primary school B.K classes" that the Jews are the ones that murdered Christ, the embodiment of Christianity?
Christians are not forbidden from eating ANYTHING! Its not what goes inside you that makes you "impure" but what COMES OUT OF YOU, says the scripture!
please speak only about "Islamic pork", not about "Christian pork"! grin

What do you exepect? Making Pounded Yam inside a Microwave!
God forbid bad rubbish!

Business › Re: Court Sends Skye Bank GMD To Jail by lastpage: 6:35pm On Jul 06, 2011
@oildealzs
The fhc has the right to order payment from a government account ,what d md should have done wat to show evidence that there were no funds in the account to avoid contempt(jail time is 6 mths) and contrary to what the highly paid praise singer said appeal to the coa is and would never amount to a reversal of the fhcs order. For all your criticsm of the others u know nothing of the law
In relation to the above highlighted!
Q: Why is a case taken to an Appeal Court? Or "Appeals" in general?
A: When the defendant is not satisfied with the "judgement of a LOWER COURT".

Q: can a lower court overrule a higher court and what happens when a case is taken to a higher court
A: a lower court CANNOT overrule a higher court. When a case (an appeal) is made to a higher court, the lower court then, from that moment, "lacks jurisdiction" to entertain the matter! In other words, it must transfer the file "upwards" and wash its hands off that case.

Q: If the "lower" courts ruling was carried out irrespective of whether the case is "on Appeal" at a higher court and the higher court nullifies the judgement of the lower Court (say a Death Penalty!), do you think justice would have been served?

A: No, when a case goes to a "higher court", the judgement of the "lower court" goes through what is called a "Stay of execution Order".
The higher court can then re-affirm that earlier ruling or quash it, as it deems fit.

Applying the above principles to this case, the lower court judge has erred in law

Only God knows what some of these Nigerian judges are smoking nowadays! This matter is simple enough even for a young "baby judge"!

Until a case is finally determined, EVERYONE is deemed innocent and can therefore not serve a punishment for the same case.
The judge should have tarried a bit and see whether his judgement would be affirmed at the higher court, why rush to commit a man to prison?

What if the Bank has "paid" and the higher court reverses/quash the judgement, is the court now going to ask the "plaintiff" for reimbursement? or does it not make more sense that the judgement be "set-aside for the time being", pending final determination?

The case may as well go as high as the Supreme court, for all we know!
So, What exactly is the rush?

Just my Take on the issue, no vested interest in anyway!
