texanomaly: shocked Is it not already?
They don't teach us anything meaningful in Nigeria that is why our doctors, engineers, scientist, economist etc are almost useless. . .Go to Europe and see how they educate their kids from Kindergarten to university, you will be highly amazed.Real knowledge is passed and creativity is highly encouraged . .Here we are just wasting our time. . . We really do not know what we are doing. . .
FamilyRe: Child Slavery And Abuse by mazaje(op): 6:57pm On Nov 09, 2013
kwangi: Those kids are totally helpless, from very poor backgrounds and probably from a remote village.
The only protection those kids has got is that of the state and that cannot be counted on!

If you ask me, it all boils down to poverty.
Me thinks if you're going to bring a kid into your household in the capacity of a help, then you should be ready to show love to him/her or at least treat him/her like a human being as opposed to an animal!
Its the way the kids are treated as animals that bothers me, I know that it is almost impossible for women to treat other kids the same way the treat theirs, but ladies should learn to treat these little boys and girls as human beings. . .That's all am asking for. . .Treat them like human beings not like slaves or animals. . .

MyJoe: Mazaje don vex. For solution - well, I think it might help - I will recommend we make philosophy, physics, mathematics and history compulsory for all secondary school pupils.
Brother I dey vex badly, why are we so superstitious?. . .Its really sickening, we can't continue like this. . .All the gods that we worship have failed us completely, we are so religious yet our society is so disorganized. . . .Proper education is the only thing that can save us, but I know it will not happen now, because we are not even ready to make effort to provide good education to our future generation. . .

Seun: What are we planning to do about this problem?
Workable and actionable solutions might not work to be candid, poverty is too much, many of these kids are brought from the villages and their parents are happy to send them off with the belief that their future will be bright. . .Sponsoring laws that can prohibit women from having children as house helps can help or enacting laws that will severely punish women that treat their house maids badly. . .Like a case that happened last week where a woman close to where I live put hot dry pepper in the eyes of her 13 years old house boy because 1500 naira was missing from her purse. .Long jail terms for such crimes can help. . .That's the short term solution that I can think of. . .

Joshthefirst: mazaje at least partly understands why I made that post. It was in reply to what he said earlier. So stop making hasty conclusions.

I never said bad things don't happen to christians. Stop making hasty conclusions. The post was adressed to mazaje. He understands the flow of conversation.
I really do not understand the explanation you gave, what exactly is the message in there?. . .That Jesus died so that evil will be dealt with in hell?. . .That was exactly what the writer wrote. . .

nnofaith: We have over time created a very terrible environment for ourselves in this country. Everywhere you go you see chaos and violence. mazaje what do you expect from pple brought up in chaos and violence?!
I tire brother, I tire. . . .The problem is these women don't see ANY thing wrong in what they are doing, am very serious, they don't think its wrong at all. . .I tried confronting one of my aunts and she was like if not for her the small girl would have died in the village, this is the same woman whose husband picked her up from the gutter and made her what she is today. . .My sister made similar remarks. . .The house girl in my sister's house can not even sit on the chair in the living room, she stays only in the kitchen, she is forced to keep a low cut, the kids treat her very badly and she can not even talk to them , she is sent to a useless public school, this is a woman who is very rich oh. . .The problem is that its all over the place and its acceptable. . Haba!. . .Let any woman come to nairaland and cry that her husband is beating her. . .What goes around comes around. . .Their husbands should kill them cos they are not better at all. . .They are worse off. since they can only bully defenseless kids, witches. . .I am serious, its most Nigerian women that do this. . .Including my sisters, cousins and aunts. . Majority of Nigerian women are evil. . .I wonder why they keep complaining that the men are bad. . .Frying pan calling kettle black. . .I dey vex badly. . .

I have been living in Nigeria for a while and I have noticed something. . .Nigerian women are as evil and wicked as the Nigerian men they claim beat and abuse them all the time, only that the Nigerian women do it to kids that are helpless and defenseless. . .I am shocked and astonished at the nonsense that I am seeing all around me. . .

You ladies come to nairaland crying that your husbands beat you up and treat you badly only for you to go back and be doing worse to the little children of others whom you claim are your house helps. A law should be passed that prohibits these evil women from these evil acts. Taking little kids from the village as house helps which is nothing but child slavery should end . .I have noticed that it is prevalent. . .My sister does it to her house help, my aunts do same to theirs, my friends wife do same its just every where. . .Why do you ladies do this?

NO body should pity any woman that comes here crying that her husband is beating her or treating her badly, please go and see what they are doing to this kids. . .Am so pissed. . .

plaetton: I wonder too.

Jesus died for our sins, yet sin triumphs, and god is still pissed off.
Now , we have to wait till the end of the world for sin and evil to be finally defeated.
But meanwhile, witches , wizards, demons and spirits still torment christians.

And the kicker is that, well, if you want to save yourself from the devourer, you must pay god a protection fee of 10% of your earnings.
Very convenient indeed.

Do I smell a rat?
Jesus died to get rid of evil as he said, but evil still exists and evil will be dealt with in hell. Did Jesus die to end sin in the world or in hell. ..Do these guys really think through the nonsense they write at all?. . . . .
Christianity EtcRe: Anambra Tragedy: God And Our Gross National Lunacy by mazaje(m): 9:21pm On Nov 06, 2013
Joshthefirst: Here's a recent post from ola.
I hope it helps @ mazaje.

"If God is a God of love, why hasn’t He dealt with evil?"

"For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil" (1 Peter 3:12 The Evidence Bible)

In Dr. Robert Morey’s book The New Atheism and the Erosion of Freedom, he talks with an atheist about this issue. The atheist assumes that everything is relative, and there are no absolutes (he is absolutely sure of that). Morey replies that the first thing an atheist must do is prove the existence of evil. By what process can an atheist identify evil? He must have a universal absolute to do so. Without an absolute reference point for "good" (which only God can provide), no one can identify what is good or evil. Thus without the existence of God, there is no "evil" or "good" in an absolute sense. Everything is relative. The problem of evil does not negate the existence of God. It actually requires it.

Many assume that because evil still exists today, God has not dealt with it. How can atheists assume that God has not already solved the problem of evil in such a way that neither His goodness nor omnipotence is limited? On what grounds do they limit what God can and cannot do to solve the problem? God has already solved the problem of evil. And He did it in a way in which He did not contradict His nature or the nature of man. We assume God will solve the problem of evil in one single act. But why can’t He deal with evil in a progressive way? Can’t He deal with it throughout time as we know it, and then bring it to the climax on the Day of Judgment?

God sent His Son to die on the cross in order to solve the problem of evil. Christ atoned for evil and secured the eventual removal of all evil from the earth. One day evil will be quarantined in one spot called "hell." Then there will be a perfect world devoid of all evil. If God declared that all evil would, at this moment, cease to exist, you and I and all of humanity would go up in a puff of smoke. Divine judgment demands that sin be punished.

God sent his son to die on the cross to solve the problem of evil yet evil exist every where?. . .The writer just went on a rant of how god is needed for moral absolutes and that evil will be dealt with in hell after claiming that god killed himself on the cross to get rid of evil. . .What kind of gibberish is this?. . .

When will Nigerians realize that they worship dead gods that will never help them?. . .PLEASE how many religious gathering have we had and what are the results?. . .Endless night vigils, prayers and other religious gatherings, yet what we see is more poverty, more crime, terrorism, bad leadership, industrial actions, disorder, corruption, premature death. . .The Nigeria I knew since when I was a kid is the same Nigeria that is existing today, no major positive change, yet people are still praying , gathering at religious events and deluding themselves. Ihedinobi: Really? And how is it embarrassing? It's not embarrassing to ascribe authorship of the quote you made to someone I've never seen, heard or touched but it's embarrassing to believe the claim that God wrote the Bible? I'm really curious how that works.
Humans write books all the time, gods do not. . .Even the bible was written by humans who claimed god told them to write it, same with the koran and other religious books, men wrote all of them and claimed god told them to write it for various reasons. . .

debosky: SMH. . . .y'all should go argue with your mates instead of picking on Josh. He clearly doesn't know how your crew operates hence his stumbling into your traps. grin

Slavery was acceptable to God in the OT - there's little or no reason to consider otherwise. However, the question is whether this was a 'situational' acceptance (based on prevailing circumstances) or universal acceptance. That question has not been addressed here.

Slavery is bad in whatever guise, brutal or otherwise - subjugating another human being isn't acceptable even if you treat them 'nicely'.

What I'll say is this - for a time only Israelites could legitimately worship God, eventually all can if they accept Jesus. I believe a similar principle applies to slavery - for some time it was acceptable, but not eventually has become unacceptable since all can now worship Christ - therefore there is no more division between 'foreigners' and 'Jews' - all are acceptable to God.
Joshthefirst PLEASE I BEG you learn to use your brain when engaging others, I disagree with many of the things that were written in the post above but it makes some sense at least, it accepts responsibility and states things they way there are before giving the christian theological explanation. . . learn to argue like this and stop spewing thrash like a senseless sheep. . . .

When slavery was acceptable your god was busy encouraging it , eh?. . .Why will a god not know that slavery is bad?
Christianity EtcRe: What Could Make You Stop Believing In God...? by mazaje(m): 9:12am On Nov 02, 2013
Nonso23: You see God as an idea, I see God as a Being. You are neither right nor wrong and so am i. You call it ''an idea of a universal God'', i call Him ''a universal God''. Our disparity lies in the argument of the existence of a God otherwise we are on the same side of the trench.
It is not possible to prove that God exists or not but it is easier to believe the latter.
No one can prove the existence of god because god is an idea humans created to help them explain things they do not understand, give their lives meaning, make them live in and orderly society, to serve as a controlling tool and means of suppression or oppression, give them a sense of identity, to serve as a source of hope, source of strength, guidance, support and inspiration, to the rulers it serves as a means to rally round, if they want to wage war they use god as a source of inspiration, they they want people to do bad things and justify it they use god etc. . .All the gods are man made ideas and religions are systems created out of that idea. . .Gods are ideas that is why the come and go, if people stop believing in Allah today, that god idea cease to exist. . .

Let me preach the message to those who need it. And let us see if the message will die or not.

I will correct the misconceptions of honest people who have not made themselves unrepentant enemies of God through dead works.

Logicboy03: Joshthefirst is an exemplary product of Nigerian christian brainwashing.

-The guy is shown a passage in the bible where isrealites are to be treated differently from others especially when it comes to slavery
-The guy himself states that God's convenant was only with isreal and not others
-The guy then goes on to say that God/The bible is not racist.

Christianity at times is mental retardation
He closes his eyes and mind , he just keeps spewing only what he know. . .He believes everything in the bible is true as such it must be true, regardless of what the fact is . .He even twist facts just so that his belief in mythology can be sustained. . .
Christianity EtcRe: What Could Make You Stop Believing In God...? by mazaje(m):
Nonso23: For record purposes, i never said any other god (except zeus) is not self-sufficient.
And my hint at the self-insufficiency of the Greek gods was clearly backed up by reasons in my initial post.
And yes! There is a universal God. People know him in different ways as the same God. In igbo tradition/culture, there are small gods and there is the God of gods. Thousands of other religions also have this belief. Christianity, Islam, Budhism, etc are more appealing/popular because their beliefs are documented and open to scrutiny/criticisms unlike most of the other small religions whose teachings are mostly oral.
And i don't discriminate religions. My reference to the greek gods was to make a point on (greek) mythology.
So, i can safely conclude that you read my post out of context.
I agree that some religious mythology are better than others but they all belong to the same category. . .Both are equally valid or invalid. . .There is no universal god anywhere. . .There is just a universal idea of supreme-being or beings(god/gods) which developed and evolved over time and is still evolving. . .
Christianity EtcRe: Why Is African Traditional Religion Seen As Demonic? by mazaje(m): 1:10am On Nov 02, 2013
alnaijiri: Modern Islamic societies have been corrupted, infiltrated, oppressed, and traumatised that they are largely dysfunctional. I'm not going to compare a country like Somalia or Mauritania with a developed country. This comparison is meaningless and irrelevant.

I'm not saying I want all of Africa to be where Somalia is today, God forbid! I'm talking about the Islamic civilisation at its height, when scholarship, reason, and compassion were respected. When governance was just and according to the Sharia as interpreted by learned scholars, not this farce of "Islamic governments" you see in the Middle East and North Africa today.

Please STOP misrepresenting what I say in order to discredit me. I have tried my best to understand your points and respond to them. Yet those that respond to me, either fail to read my entire post, or ignore it, or take it so out of context as to suggest that I have made asinine claims.
that's the problem i have with you guys, you keep talking about the light of islam and how it is what the world needs, but when we point to islamic lands and the light they show you quickly throw them away and claim they are not practising islam, do you mean to tell em that the whole world is not practising islam the right way? You quickly try to take us back into time, to a period non of us really know what happened just to propagate your islamic propaganda. . .What am i do to with the islamic golden age ruse?. . .Islam has failed humanity because a simple look at the islamic world says so. . .Death, violence, intolerance, suppression, racism etc. . .
Christianity EtcRe: You're Foolis.h For Believing In Christ? by mazaje(m): 1:06am On Nov 02, 2013
Joshthefirst: One other problem is that when one knows the reality of absolute truth, he recognizes the problem and lie of false perceptions of truth.
Which absolute truth are you talking about?. . .The one that told you that all humans came from one man or the one that told you that some mythical god construct killed himself to save humans from himself?. . .You are too deluded for anyone to take you seriously. . .There are many christians that know what they are talking about but am sorry you are not one of them. . .
Christianity EtcRe: What Could Make You Stop Believing In God...? by mazaje(m): 1:03am On Nov 02, 2013
Nonso23: I beg to disagree with the first sentence. In Philosophy, the major relationship between Theology and mythology stems from the fact they are both under religion and pretty much ends there.
To your belief on the non-existence of a God it might interest you to know that God cannot be proven to or not to be existent (satisfying the conditions to negate arguments of the fallacy of appealing to ignorance). He is a necessary being and self sufficient.
God is not a myth, it's our ideas and perceptions about Him that should be regarded as the myth.
It's a choice to or not to believe in God, but happenings around us should, to a very limited extent affect our perception of Who He Is (as it is a very lop-sided view).
#Theology is logically sound.
Theology might be sound but it is not factual. . .It is mostly mythical and it was invented to explain or give support to mythical ideas and construct. . .Example is original sin and on and on. . .There is no evidence to show that humans became enlighten by eating some mythical fruit, or some flood once destroyed the earth and rainbows about as a result of the flood that wiped the whole earth. . theology explains those mythical narrative, it has nothing to do with reality as such i disregard it. . .Theology explains religion ideas which are all human constructs away. . .
