BusinessRe: Delta Women Celebrate Reduction In Kerosene Price by monkeyleg: 7:10pm On Jun 01, 2011
evilspirit:
check petrol prices in venezuela
in Venezuela, where petrol is the world's cheapest, at less than 2p a litre - 54 times less than the UK, where unleaded averages £1.19.
Are they refining enough to meet local needs? what % is subsidised by the government? The UK average is £1.34 per litre
BusinessRe: Delta Women Celebrate Reduction In Kerosene Price by monkeyleg: 6:40pm On Jun 01, 2011
I think people are missing the point here, whilst we might welcome this as it affect the common man, the big question is Can Petroleum products actually be that cheap? The only way it can is if the government is heavily subsidising it. Now can the government sustain that, especially as we are not refining enough to meet our local needs, thus importing.

Whether we like it or not, Nigeria is really not pricing its petroluem product properly. Check our pricing with other countries, something just isnt right
PoliticsRe: ACN Calls For National Security Summit, Bombings Risk Scaring Away Investors-ACN by monkeyleg: 8:49am On Jun 01, 2011
This is very welcome. I will like to see ACN now push forward as an alternative party. They must see themsleves as string opposition there to keep the government in check and call for necessary changes.

No prospective investor would take us seriously
PoliticsRe: "Nigeria To Become A World Leading Economy Under Jonathan" Jeffrey Sachs by monkeyleg: 8:46am On Jun 01, 2011
It is one thing for an eminent economist to make a glowing prediction about Nigeria, it is another for Nigerians to actually maximise the potentials. Lets be clear about one thing, though very welcome news, this climate has existed post civil war times, but we squandered it. We must not be allowed to make the same mistakes again, some countries do get as many chances as Nigeria do.

I believe fundamentally corruption must now be tackled head-on. Yes there are loads of global blue-chips companies lining up to take a bite of the Nigeria magic, but most still cite the harsh conditions of doing business as a stumbling block.

Check this out, for one do you know it Takes 4 Days from start to finish to register and start a business in Rwanda?

Well the average in sub-saharan Africa is 45 days, and I know Nigeria firmly sits in the middle. We must make our country one that is business friendly

PoliticsNigeria: Blasts Hit Vice-president's Hometown, Zaria by monkeyleg(op): 9:36am On May 31, 2011
At least six people have been injured by two explosions in the hometown of Nigeria's Vice-President, Namadi Sambo, officials have said.

The blasts in the northern city of Zaria struck a bar on Sunday night and the old quarter on Monday morning.

There are also reports of an attack on a military patrol in Maiduguri.

At least 10 people were killed by a bombing at a market place in Bauchi on Sunday evening, hours after President Goodluck Jonathan's inauguration.

No group has yet said it was behind the series of attacks

PoliticsRe: The World Must Hear This: Evil In Lagos As Governor Fashola Was Inaugurated by monkeyleg: 7:22am On May 31, 2011
The poster is very right. This happened to me as well, when I returned back to Nigeria. The sanity of the UK makes you forget the reality of Nigeria. In my case , I saw a truck run into a smaller goods vans, carrying large sheets of glass, smashing it all and killing people on board. Blood everywhere. Guess what, the truck driver drove off, our cab chased him, and shouted at him that he had just killed people behind. Not to mention the several corpes we saw on the way. It is shocking, these things are common in places like Lagos, Onitsha etc. I dont think it is necessarily a Fashola thing, though he could do a bit to stem the tide.

I have never been in support of this craziness, innocent people are always caught up in this lynch mentality, and it must be banned. But this is only likely in a country where security is non existant, people taking the law into thier own hands

Dont worry, we are on the case. Emmanuel will be out before 6months, and then you guys can move back to Delta state. The wickedness on that man is beyond belief and way beyond the scope of this forum. But soon the good people of Delta shall smile again.

It truly bugles the mind how mindless murder like this cane ever be celebrated or justified by any. No matter your political affiliations acts like this can never and should never be glorified it must be condemned in the strongest of terms. And I do hope as a country we can pull together to fight this EVIL.

May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace

Uduaghan cannot do anything. He was a massive failure as an anesthetist, sacked some say for stealing, failed woefuly in his first term, now he wants to create jobs from nothing. Na magic
PoliticsRe: EFCC Action - Immunity Finish, Na Im Gbenga Daniel RUN! Chei! by monkeyleg: 4:46pm On May 29, 2011
@Beaf,

To show the determination of ones drive for change, the sincerity must be there. A lot of people including have wanted to give Goodluck a chance, and I am in little doubt that he may mean well, but it is really hard for people to be totaly convinced of this change when there is massive disparity in the clean up excersize.

I repeat my question, why was Uduaghan not arrested and tried when he lost all immunity in October, especially when there was ample evidence locally and abroad that he is deeply involved in the Grand Fraud that has been taking place in Delta state, of which his Brother is in jail for.

I for one, I am not convinced Daniel is more corrupt that Uduaghan, why the double standard? The fight against corruption must be transparent and total

By Austin Ogwuda & Festus Ahon, Asaba

GOVERNOR Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, Sunday took his oath office for a second tenure at exactly 8.58am, with a promise to focus his attention in creating five hundred thousand new jobs towards tackling youth unemployment in the state.

The governor arrived the Cenotaph, venue of the swearing in ceremony in Asaba, at about 7.40am even before many dignitaries and some clergymen and worshippers that attended a denominational service that preceded the swearing in.

PoliticsRe: Us Government To Partner With Lagos by monkeyleg: 2:57pm On May 29, 2011
@Katsumoto,

Exactly my point. The US and UK with time will be forced to changed thier economic stratergy, they are being muscled out by the likes of China and India. Things have changed, and they have not choice but to comply. So this might not be that bad
PoliticsRe: Us Government To Partner With Lagos by monkeyleg: 9:51am On May 29, 2011
For me I am more concerned about quality control and the Nigerian government getting a good deal for the Nigerian people. Letting China and Indian in is ok, but we must be cautious of substandard good. Nigeria still remains a dumping ground, and I am not quite sure of Far east partners are that ethical sound.

All said, I think a better relationship would have been achieved with the Birtish. Like it or not, we have a history with them, may not be very glowing, but a history does exist, and I am convinced that there is a lot of room for Nigeria and the UK to do good mutally beneficial business, interms of the service sector, manufacturing, health, even power generation.
PoliticsRe: Us Government To Partner With Lagos by monkeyleg: 9:46am On May 29, 2011
@papabrowne,
Try and stick to the issue at hand. The election was flawed, but we will save that for another thread.

That said, I think this is a welcome development, and I am sure Fash will be smart enough to manage the relationship.

@playmode,

I do appreciate your skepticism, but I think the Yanks have learn a valuable leasson and I am sure they will be willing to engage on more meaningful and beneficial to all terms. They have fast learnt that thier previous stand is fast loosing them valueable business, which the Chinese and Indians are gobbling up.

I remember when african leaders where invited to China in 2007, some of the comments coming out, where that the West (US, UK and co), treat African as subjects, but the Chinese treated them as equals. So I guess the Americans are now understanding that the game has changed and they need to engage on more flexible terms.

Disgraced former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, today hurriedly handed power over to his successor, Rochas Okorocha, in Owerri. The impromptu ceremony took place at about 2 :00 PM Nigerian time.

Ohakim later drove to the airport where he entered a flight to Lagos. Upon his arrival in Lagos, he was sighted at the Arik Airline office in Ikeja. He was reportedly negotiating to hire a chartered flight to escape from Nigeria before Sunday, when his immunity expires

THERE were indications that Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State may not celebrate tomorrow’s inauguration with pomp and pageantry even as plans have been put in place to ensure a successful inauguration ceremony.

The ceremony will take place at the Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, Lagos Island. Security arrangements have been secured with armed and anti bomb police squad to be on guard.

Tomorrow May 29th, Governor Babatunde Fashola will be sworn in as the governor to pilot the affairs of the state for another four years.

point of correction, not all the money for the wedding was spent. Just the one he sent her to weave aso-oke!
Overblowing, much?
I dont support what the lady in question did, but lets not pour oil on fire.
I am not over blowing anything. What will eventually happen is that he will marry her, she will then spend the monthly food dispensation buying bleaching cream and Tiro. She has got her priorities wrong, and if you read through his comments, it looks like this is an pngoing thing, probably not the first time.

@dollypi,

I totaly disagree with you, spending the entire wedding money on Tura cream, does not sound to me as temporary insanity, this woman loves money and will going into this wedding with the wrong motive.

Ol boy get out now. I was in a similar situation long ago. My case wasnt one of money, but one of someone with very irrational behaviour, I bit he bullet got the initial hot abuse and awkward looks, but with thime things settle down, and I am glad I took that decision then, it saved me a whole lot of trouble.
