TravelRe: Top 10 Misconceptions About Africa by MsNas(f): 7:28pm On Aug 28, 2014
Lucasbalo: Gbam. The same here in Chitown . Remember the first time I went with five of my colleagues here to South Africa and we got to the airport in Johannesburg , you can't believe how surprised this white guys were. Asking me if this is Africa . We stayed 10 days working in Pretoria and Johannesburg and this guys got back to Chicago and passed words around that Africa is different from their perceptions.
You can't begin to imagine the bull-crap questions these people have asked me! I cannot just start telling them all. These questions makes me wonder if they have never picked up a book to read, or watch the news. And yet some self hating Africans and Nigerians have the guts to tell me I'm misleading the American Populace about what exactly my homeland is. What do the expect me to tell these Americans, that Nigeria is filled with lions and tigers and what have you when I've only seen a lion once, all through my stay in Nigeria? Nigerians are their own worst enemies, I tell you!

You tell the Americans Nigeria is a beautiful place, Nigerians attack you saying you're telling a lie. You tell Americans Nigeria us a jungle over-run by people fighting senseless wars, corruption risen, Boko Haram Infested, bad roads, zero health care, Nigerians Ho for your jugular and tell you you're selling out your own. I'm just tired!

BadBoy25: so nigerians have no misconceptions ? do most Nigerians even know about anywhere in the US except New York?
You seem not to get what I'm saying right? Yeah some Nigerians don't know anywhere except NYC. Same as Americans. What is the basis for comparison, I was talking about Americans not Nigerians. If a topic comes up about Nigerian Ignorance, I will gladly talk about it.

Lucasbalo: Hey sister, keep telling those Arkansans the truth because some of them are a little shallow.
Shallow is an understatement. Most of them haven't even been past Fayetteville not to talk of Arkansas yet they think the world revolves around them.
TravelRe: Top 10 Misconceptions About Africa by MsNas(f):
BadBoy25: but if they show skyscrapers in africa, you would still complain that they are not showing your culture. you guys are just simply annoying and whine too much . Africa is full of animals like giraffe and elephants and lions . deserts and forest . that's the symbol of africa just as redwood trees ,desert, beaches and tall palm trees are a symbol of california. the vast majority of sub saharan africa is underdeveloped third world except places highly influenced by american and european.
you also have misconceptions about other places like Russia . everywhere has misconception. stop whining . you think Russia is cold ,but thats wrong.
First off, I will suggest you learn how to comprehend. Yeah, I educated them that Africa isn't all about Safaris and Masai Warriors cos personally I never seen one all through the time I was in Nigeria.

And if you feel I'm misinforming them, then I suggest you take a trip to America and ask the average American what they think about Africa. 70% of them think we are a step away from the wildlife NatGeo show them on TV.

Sadly, I don't have time to debate whatever notion you seem to be opined about, I will portray my Africa whatever way I want it to be, and if you're not pleased about the way I do it, I will encourage you to also portray it the way you want. After all, we all are sons and daughters of Mama Africa so you can also do the job on making people see whatever you want them to see!

Horayce: You are the one over there who is trying to get a world class education you can't get back home and ur there misinforming the poor folks that we have everything they have. O well, if that makes u feel good about anything, by all means do as u please but don't get on ur high horse calling people out for what ur obviously worse at.
You sound pained. What exactly is your problem with me? That I'm getting your so called world class education or I'm telling people what Africa is really like? You have serious issues dude and I'm not the one to solve it.

PS: there is no law that states I have to get educated in Nigeria or anywhere else. So I can get educated wherever I wish to. That's a personal decision and not a national one. I wonder how it became a subject in this debate.
TravelRe: Top 10 Misconceptions About Africa by MsNas(f):
Most people are so ill informed about Africa. grin if you hear the lies that I've blown for some people regarding Africa ehn, you will swear for me. grin

I've told some ignorant Folks that I have a Lion, a Tiger, a Giraffe and all sorts I keep as pets in my backyard in Africa. The smart ones know I'm kidding after like a minute. But the not so smart will be like " shocked wowww. That's so cool. What do you feed them? " cheesy

One has asked me before that "How did you get here?" I told her I swam across the Atlantic. Duhh! I finally out her put of her ignorance and told her we had airports in Africa too.

I was supposed to put up a presentation about Nigeria one time like that and as I was making my presentation, putting pictures on slides, one of my Akata friends; a boy came over and was like "Where is that? " He was referring to pictures of Lagos, Abuja and other Nigerian cities. I told him "Nigeria" and the amazement on his face was hilarious. I took great pleasure in educating him by telling him we have virtually everything you guys have here. Nigeria is gun. The western media just hasn't been fair enough on us.

I take great pleasure in rubbing it in when lecturing them about what Africa is and is not!

DonaldGenes: So far I think their pay is relatively okay nah
Okay? When they pay slightly above the minimum wage. Its not too good considering the fact that they are number 1 on the fortune 500 companies. Walmart got them billions, they should spend it. Lol.

Cos I was raised right. Can't say the same for you tho. Stop quoting me. Go find something productive to do with your life. Before everything leaves you behind. Being an e-warrior on NL doesn't translate to a better life offline.

I'm afraid you aren't making sense. Why would I be jealous of the company? Say what? Did you read my initial post or you just interpreted it the way you wanted? My only grouse with Walmart is cos they have so much yet they pay their workers so little. Smh

I won't even attempt to curse you out cos it's obvious you're just out for cheap publicity. I'd implore you to bring out that dirty hand of yours for the slap first. Nairaland has given oafs like you self esteem. I won't blame you.

Anyways, I suggest you go back to school and learn the proper way to address people. Maybe then, your life will advance from where it currently is, seeing as you can't express yourself in plain English. Eran.

I understand where you're coming from tho. I hope NL can help you salvage the little iota of self respect that is hidden deep inside yourself and make you feel good about your existence.

Is your life this miserable? Why are you always spewing venom everywhere on Nairaland. Which Yoruba guy did this to you? Cos your condition is more spiritual than physical. I recommend some Proxac for you. Plus Jesus. Plus you need to get laid. Maybe you'll calm down. Cos the way you exhibit hatred these days is alarming. Wèrè Abu'gi je!

I knew Walmart will be number one, Seeing as they are number one in the Fortune 500 companies. Yet, their pay is effing crappy. All they know is to be building Walmarts every 5miles undecided
CultureRe: Alaafin Of OYO With Yoruba Descendants In Brazil (pictures) by MsNas(f): 4:25am On Aug 25, 2014
Well, I'm from Oyo State, though from Ibadan (Omo Ibadan and always proud of it grin). The Alaafin of Oyo actually does well in promoting the Yoruba culture a lot. Makes me proud of my Yoruba heritage. Kudos to Oba Lamidi Adeyemi. I've not seen Oba Sijuade out these days that much, wonder why...
The Alaafin sure knows how to enjoy life sha cheesy

But BTW... why is that Olori (King's Wife) as white as that? I'm not bashing her but with the stereotype associated with Yorubas (which is stupid IMO), I cannot for the life of me fathom why some women whiten their skin. She might be naturally light-skinned sha.

Theyjih: @thread with guys familiar with amazon, Abebooks, etc what site would u recommend getting textbooks for MD/ Dvm students.?
Check Amazon and Chegg.com to get the prices. Then compare it from some other sites like EBay for a bargain. Books are always pretty much expensive on Amazon compared to ebay.

I got one of my books for $45 on ebay last night (International Edition from India) whereas Amazon had the priced pegged at $225. EBay always have some pretty good deals. Chegg.com too.

chimoz: Sea-tac Airport in Seattle Washington.
That Seattle Tacoma leaks doesn't excuse Enugu Airport. During the flooding or what have you at Sea-Tac, was any plane allowed to land or take-off? They definitely won't. See that Med-View airline landing in the middle of an ocean. Is that not endangerment of passenger life? I'm guessing they allowed the plane to land cos they didn't have any measures to curb the flood and they have no idea when the water will recede.

Ashigolo: Hello my people, please I need a way out of this. I was at the social security office yesterday to apply for my SSN, but to my greatest suprise, the man said he got it from his computer that its not going to be ready until after 46 weeks due to a discrepancy in my date of birth. we were both shocked because he checked all my documents and saw that my d.o.b is the same and correct in all. He advised me to visit the immigration office which I did, but they got no information on me at all. I am so confused because I need to write my SSN on the documents I'm to submit to my school's HR because my TA job starts next month.

Please what could be the possible cause of this and the way out. Thank you in advance for your suggestion.
Inform your school and department about the development first. 46weeks ke? That's stupid and incompetent of them. That's a year plus!!! Maybe someone with your exact names is in America or the guy you talked to at the SSN office doesn't know his job. I haven't heard about this kind of case before so I don't even know how to proffer solution.

All you can do now is inform the school and probably the SSN office will review your case. From my understanding, the SSN office does not have any prior third of you, do they? It's the passport and I-20 you showed that that they can only get your true DOB from. So where is the error coming from?

meforyou1: u are not serious. are u?
Yes he is being serious. You think being born in Lagos makes you a Lagosian? Nope. One case scenario is when you wanna apply for Lagos State Busary or any Lagos State benefit. You have to show a local government identifying certificate which can only be obtained in Lagos. Even me wey be Yoruba girl with Yoruba name can't claim being from Lagos despite being born there cos they will ask me from which family I was and where my father's compound is not to talk of a girl with an Igbo name.

So come off it, being born in Lagos doesn't make you a Lagosian. I know I'm not
