Eastbay:HABA. If people like chidichris are guilty of never seeing anything wrong in mikel then you may as well be guilty of never seeing anything good in him. The midfield was not very supportive of the attack it is expected that when the midfielders are with the ball the attackers will run into space and free up themselves but we were not seeing that. I will blame amodu for that. If mikel was poor then what do you say of olofijana and kalu uche. With the match I watched mikel was 85% responsible for making it difficult for the tunisians creating anything meaningful through the middle. There is no point trying to bring mikel back to his 2005 days, what a good coach would do is to allow mikel play his normal chelsea role in front of the defense, rest olofijana he is not a SE material. Play kanu in the first half all this second half tradition is not the best. Kalu Uche should relax until his form improves. shop for new attack minded midfielders may be obodo, Infact haruna lukman is a good player that will fit that role provided the coach can talk to him and instill some discipline. Eneramo is not SE material let ogbuke and yakubu return to the team. While I am not a fan of amodu , I think it was not a bad result . Our primary target was not to loose in tunis, winning was a secondary target. In a one-chance bus like saturday's match you dont get too ambitious else you pay dearly. |
IBB,ABACHA, ABDULSALAMI and now "hearer-doer". IS BORROWING A STRATEGIC MEANS TO AREWA'S VISION 2020? |
Mine has to do with sulfonamides (fansidar ,metakelfin) and very embarrassing. whenever i take any of dem i go get rash for the cap of my captain |
They call it "soft credit" today then ten years down the line we will hear : 1. The debt burden is too heavy for proper economic growth 2 High power Governemnt delegeation spending our hard earned oil money travelling everywhere to negotiate debt relief 3. Massive fraud in debt management office etc. We just dey try free the country from the one wey their past arewa leaders borrow , chop and clean mouth ABEG CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY "ABOKI GOVERNMENTS" LIKE BORROW BORROW? |
nadneth:I sometimes wonder how we rate our team. YES tunisia was not fantastic when they played mozambique but remember that the SE were largely average too against kenya even though we won by 3 goals. A sound coach is expected to look at his previous match and correct lapses . If amodu allow pride make him play just those new boys without yobo, taiwo and possibly mikel, then we will not even get a draw |
Jarus:If ogbuke is not available then I agree with ur choice of utaka 100% I thought I was alone. provided we are not playing him as a winger. However I think kanu should start instead of the traditional 2nd half introduction because when the game starts , we will need boys that can keep the ball and force the tunisians to commit fouls. That kind of frustration will just be the perfect way to start with the tunisians before their home crowd. SO I replace kalu uche with kanu. i will also prefer olubayo to apam because apam is always tensed in big matches |
Sagamite:But I thought ogbuke is now fit and travelled with the team. We really need attackers that will so trouble the tunisian defense that they too will be very cautious at the back and attack us less. |
I think SE will cary the day, provided amodu makes the right team selection, right initial strategy and good match reading know-how. I sincerely hope that he swallows his pride and play some of the experienced boys like yobo, taiwo and mikel and possibley ogbuke I also pray that tunisia does not play like egypt did yesterday against brasil or else we will be in serious trouble. I will favour this team selection Eyeama olubayo yobo adeleye taiwo mikel olofijana kanu ogbuke osaze uche |
OneNaija:And what do you stand to gain by that? may be that will make you the next millionaire? Many of you haters will not leave this young man that could pass for your grandson alone. Many of you are too disappointed to see mikel have much playing time in a star studded team like chelsea. Well sorry, four different coaches , from different countries cannot all be wrong. Let me disappoint you the more. J J okocha just stated this morning that at the moment mikel is the biggest nigerian player and that nigeria should not make the mistake of approaching the tunisia match without big players like him. |
I will score the entire midfield 1/10 at least before kanu came in. Olofijana, kalu uche and etuhu were just shit. They never fought for any ball , I have not seen a set of midfielders that will be watching the opponent without any body attacking the ball when the opponent is in the third of your half like these boys did. They gave the ball away in a manner we have not seen even in an accord match. I believe the defense was made to work extra because of the non-existent midfield. It seems the boys and amodu used their last strength to play france and forgot that we have a WC match. I commended the boys when they played france but an experienced coach should have known that in a world cup match before home crowd when a team like tunisia had put extra pressure on us by winning their second match he should have played yobo at least. When you inject knew players into a team it is not always a wise decision when your entire defense line is made of new players. atleast yobo would have been the leader for the other rookies. For those saying we dont need mikel and taiwo again in the team, i think they have to think again. My grouse has always been the complacency in the team , where some "big players" feel we do not have alternatives for them. The good thing about these new boys is that they will create the needed comptetion for places that will bring out the best in everybody. I still believe mikel should be made to player the same DM role he plays for chelsea. Will olofijana or keita make a chelsea reserve team? So if not why not play mikel in that holding role where he has done well even against the world's best. In all I think amodu is still not the right coach, he was simply helpless when things were not looking up for nigeria. Yes he made some changes but making changes should not be the first and only option left for a coach. We have seen seasoned coaches that have spoken to faultering players in a match and transform their poor showing to an excellent one. He did not know what to tell etuhu, kalu uche etc. Yes it is better to play badly and get a good result than playing well and ending with a bad result. BUT THE RIGHT LESSONS MUST BE LEARNT OR ELSE TUNISIA WILL HAVE AN EASY RIDE. EVEN THE KENYAN COACH CONFIRMED IT AFTER THE MATCH. |
I have always been a big critic of Amodu, but I must confess that he got it right last nite. The team needs this kind of confidence in the battle of TUNIS where the ticket to WC2010 will be decided. |
unix4real1:This is why this country can hardly move forward. what has chelsea got to do with this. When chelsea lost controversially in the semi-final did you hear anything like one cracy fan acting like this? Our jobless youth in this country have found for themself jobs by passionately supporting this foreign teams. We really need to rethink Nigeria because from the president, politician, militant, soldier and the ordinary citizen out there, we have lost respect for the human life. |
later some mumu go say na only chelsea get thugs as fans |
MAN U lost the final to Barca last nite .The team did not put up the fight a lot of EPL fans expected. What do you think was responsible? |
superior1:Bros na 2 set of criminals dey fight. Criminals in the creeks(militants) VS criminals in government (FG). The FG has to destroy the premise of the militants' argument which is the undervdevelopment of the region before any other measure can work. |
In a fight , it is only sensible to know the goal of your enemy. JTF says it wants to flush out the militants While the militants say their goal is to cripple oil exploration (not necessarily by defeating JTF). Since 2006 mend and other militants have subtly reduced our daily quota by about 1 million barrels daily and the Govt seem not to have an answer for this. Only yesterday another casualty was recorded to the tune of 100,000 barrels. While no one doubts the prowess of the military to run down mend in open combat, I must quickly add that they have proven that they lack the intelligence to handle this kind of guerilla combat. The government must understand that the soldiers may run down communities, but should note also hat the oil exploration that translate into govt revenue is carried out by professionals(engineers) that will not comfortably work in any war-raged community. In the end there is a drop in the daily qouta. Negotiation with the militants would be difficult as it might send the wrong signals , but the soldiers should tactically retreat and map out a more intelligent strategy. The new military strategy should incorporate a robust political arrangement. The problem in the ND is that the people do not like the miilitants, however they hate the government more. Government must prove to the people that it is commited to the development of the region. Then the militants will have two enemies to contend with , because the average man in the region will easily align with government. |
As an IJAW MAN I have already made my point on this thread in an earlier post. There is no denying the fact the MEND and their fellow ‘freedom fighters’ missed the mark and the only sensible thing for government is to face it headlong and go for them. The waste of lives of even kinsmen by this boys was massive. I am however baffled at the line of argument of most people on this thread . While some see it as an avenue to play the ethnic card, some others have made the mistake of generalisation in diagnosing the complex nature of the region. The predominant view is that since the killing of soldiers by mend was wrong then the approach by the soldiers is absolutely correct and therefore supported. This in my opinion is a flawed conclusion because it is no different from the error of MEND in the implementation of the freedom course, which was that since the region was impoverished and marginalized (which is very correct and has been reechoed by successive governments especially during election campaigns ), then an approach of kidnapping, intimidation and full combat engagement of the state security forces to halt economic activities will get the needed attention of government. The results are there to see that mend has failed and the government is towing that path. The militants were doing there “business” by intimidating and killing the very people whose course the professed to be fighting (I mean the law abiding villager in the creeks) , but now the government is trying to protect its business(revenue) by killing the same innocents in the creeks in the guise of searching for the militants , while the Millitants disperse and resettle elsewhere. How many of these boys has JTF killed in their latest operation ? we hear reports of 11 hostages released, villages sacked , huge civilian casualty but very little about really capturing these millitants. Some may argue that these villagers in the creeks were giving this boys cover, but I think there was little they (the villagers) could do to stop the boys since the police is almost non- existent in the region. It was reported some time ago in dailies that a traditional ruler in Bayelsa was flogged mercilessly by the boys for daring to report their activities to security operatives. He was also warned that when next he misbehaves , he will be killed. This boys are still walking freely as kings in the creeks. This example goes to show how intertwined the activities of the security operatives and that of the militants are when making money is the focus. The government over the years even with the activities of the JTF has not been able to increase our quota in oil exports , rather the exports drop daily which by extension drops revenue. This present onslaught may be a damage control measure but I still see our daily quota going down. Instead like OGONI, kill all opposition but no oil goes out. All of these should be a call to reality for us all that government has failed to answer core infrastructural and developmental questions which have lingered for decades. Any backdoor approach to solving this problem will only be temporal. The so-called creeks are only artifacts of underdevelopment which now make surveillance difficult for any genuine security effort. Build roads into this creeks and see if there will be any hiding place for criminals. These questions still beg for answers: 1. What is the hope of a better life for average indigene especially now that the oil exploration has largely decimated farming options ? 2. If oil as we know is an exhaustible resource and the existing stock is fast diminishing then what hope does the region have , If the experience of the past decades is taken as a point of reference? OLOIBIRI WHERE OIL WAS FIRST FOUND IS NOW A ‘LEPERS’ ENCLAVE 3. Is present effort by government to flush the militants at high cost of innocent lives , a step at paving the way for massive development programs from the FG or a major step at repression for the business of underdevelopment of the area to continue? 4. If past leaders of the Niger delta are corrupt and have largely contributed to the underdevelopment of the area as generally believed, what has the government done to prosecute , at least as a punitive measure or is jungle justice constitutional in the Niger delta alone? 5. What measures are there to gainfully engage jobless youth that are scattered across the region and the country at large? 6. Is this the best democracy can offer? 7. How much has the FG spent on security in the ND in the last 3 yrs and how much on developmental projects? Ijaws like me do not support the activities of the militants but at best I am indifferent to the FG too because it is not just there. No country supports terrorism as no right thinking person should celebrate injustice and repression. |
If you must sentence them to death then start first with those that import fake drugs and our politicians. As bad as '419' is their victims are largely greedy foreigners. Our politicians are worse |
I want to quickly state that while Nigeria as a nation suffers from the current security situation in the Niger Delta, the key players – militants,JTF(military) and the state governments seem to be enjoying the benefits hence the end of all of these might be far in coming. The militants enrich themselves, the JTF have leaders who have turned business men in the Niger delta and are not prepared to leave the goodies too soon. The leaders of the JTF are now big time business men and hence will need the insecurity in the Niger delta to persist , to guarantee their continued stay. If the JTF does total cleansing of the militants (which might be difficult anyway), then they will be leaving the area soon, and that will be bad business. Yes they have destroyed a lot of their camps, killed a lot of people but what guarantees do we have that the boys have not dispersed to regroup elsewhere? The state governors see the situation as an alibi to loot public funds in the name of security votes. In all the masses suffer- no infrastructure, no schools, no jobs etc. As an IJAW man I want to quickly state that no right thinking person will support these self-serving militant groups with whom every form of atrocities from Kidnapping (even their kinsmen),to rape and robbery have been associated in the recent past. No right thinking person will also celebrate if the militants defeat the Army (which is almost impossible). It will only be likened to a foolish housewife that celebrates in public that she can beat her husband. Even in the bible Christians are enjoined to properly honour secular authority. When these boys started the ‘struggle’ it was too difficult for an average indigene not to see the positives especially considering the failure of negotiations with the those in power over decades. But events have shown that in just a short time the weakness of such an approach is massive. Sometimes I ask my siblings that should the resource control call by the militants be heeded, how will the communities share the funds, besides who decides the percentage of the funds that will go to the boys for all their ‘hardwork ‘ over the years. IT IS REALLY SUCH A DIFFICULT ONE. However there are a lots of questions begging for answers 1. What is the hope of a better life for average indigene especially now that the oil exploration has largely decimate farming options ? Is present effort by government to flush the militants high cost of innocent lives , a step at paving the way for massive development programs from the FG or a major step at repression for the business of underdevelopment of the area to continue. 6. Is this the best democracy can offer? |
deor03:bros abeg forget story . I can tell you that a burnley fan will most likely stick to burnley becuase the club is his local club. When I was in kwara state I supported Okin BISCUITS and OFFA united until they were disbanded. You want people in nigeria to support clubs like luton town that are not even popular in England. People support clubs for different reasons ranging from favourite player, style of play, coach, results etc. big clubs also know that they have to keep working and getting good results to maintain and boost their fan base. Even in Europe when a club people support become a constant source of heartbreak, they switch allegiance. How many fans do you think leeds united have now? Do you know how J.S PARK alone influenced the fan base of Man u in Asia? |
dayokanu:May be people should come with their WAEC certificates to the viewing centers or better still take a test in oral English before admission into the viewing centers. I believe everybody has a right to happiness and the EPL is one(if ont only) means for a lot of nigerians (however ephemeral). In Nigeria you can not compare the followership of the EPL to any other league, there are lots of LA LIGA matches that people wont even watch for free , most times people show interest in matches that involve BARCA or REAL M. only. As for the viewing centers , I must say that there are certain matches I chose not not watch in the comfort of my room, because some victories are not very enjoyable when you are alone. If I cant get friends to watch with I go to those viewing centers. From my findings things like betting must be stopped as I see it as the main catalyst for fights. People bet on virtually everything- who wins the first throwing, who will get the first corner kick, first to score, etc Expectedly the clubs with the highest followership have the highest number of hoodlums and this follows a global pattern. It is not a chelsea or arsenal thing. Another angle to the fights in the centers is that it is a pointer to a failed state with no job opportunities for the youth. To a lot of our young men out there ,identifying with a club gives them the only sense of belonging in society and an avenue to show their frustration on a system (nigeria) that is not working. The centers should not be banned period. |
I support Man U at least let UEFA/platini know that this is the time for English teams even if he doesnt like it. There is no point contending with those that felt the ref was the best when chelsea played Barca. My prayer is that one day your team will have a ref like that in a very crucial match and he will display same performance.AMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEN |
Ccomputers:BLUE is the colour. CHELSEA WITHOUT REGRETS |
Ccomputers:If you know the answer then why ask. Like it or not the PRE-morhino era is by far different from what we have now. Arsenal seem not to understand this and that explains the dearth of trophies. If you say Man u win by fixing matches, do they do that in the CL too and if so may be they fixed the recent one with the baby gunners where your "sexy football" was virtually raped. Remember then arsenal had undue home advantage in their Onikan-like stadium. I am not a Man U fan mind u. Stop living yesterday . Forget story and face today's challenges. |
Ccomputers:Bros the EPL was by far less competitive then. I can bet that with the level of competition now even a FIFA XI cant run a whole season in the EPL without defeat. |
But why are u guys saying arsenal is trophyless this season. Have you forgotten the emirate cup they (arsenal) win ahead before every season starts. I think in the first 15 mins chelsea took it lightly but the boyz saw how the ambitious babies were playing to make a point. So the big boyz just changed the dance steps. For me I sincerely feel Wenger is afraid of target. Spending money to get players is one thing, wining trophies is something else. Ask Benitez who thought spending money to buy players is the only thing needed to win . Since he bought the big players he has won nothing. Wenger hides under the excuse of funds to drive a team without any ambition. Give Wenger money and I can bet that even with the big players he will win nothing. Its about attitude and Technical know-how which I think Wenger is often found wanting when it matters most. When Wenger had the big boys, Henry, seaman, overmars, kanu,Tony adams, martin keon, ray parlor, etc He still could not do well in Europe. Arsenal was only wining in England because it was more of a two-man rivalry (Man u & aRSENAL) but since chelsea raised the stakes, Man U has responded well but wenger still lives in the past in terms of materials and tactics. If Wenger wants to train children then let him develop a football academy , FiFA and Eufa will even support him |
@49cents You really hit it. but dont you think their should have been a lesson for the REF, platini and EUFA? |
The ref was the man of the match. At least he is now very popular. The match shows how one-dimensional Barca are in attack . They sure will not survive Man U if they play this way. C.R or rooney would Surely have taken those drogba's chances. One would want to ask why GUUS will pull out drogba for belleti instead of Kalou. The red card is actually contestable but in truth it did not substantially change things as Barca were not even playing well with 11 men, it seemed to give Chelsea false security which was our undoing. It will be difficult to say it was not a freekick, and once one agrees it was a free kick it will be difficult not to invoke the "last-man professional foul clause" In all I think luck played a fast one On chelsea, guus and terry. The lucky coach, lucky team ,lucky captain factor is key in competitions like this. PSV was eliminated in same fashion by Milan in 2005, Terry was just 1 penalty kick away from wining the trophy last year. I praise the spirit of the Chelsea team for at least showing that Barca are not as superlative in europe as they appear in LA LIGA. |
nateev*:Hmmmmmm , Are you sure, how good can Barca be away?. Barca wanted to finish the match off in the first leg because they know how difficult it can get when they come to stanford bridge. Its football and anything can happen though , but I think Barca lost their opportunity. In the second leg they will be busy trying to contain Chelsea's attack. |
Well for those blaming chelsea, no English team can face a team like Barca in an open play at nou camp and survive. forget ur beautiful football talk. A team like arsenal would have been more entertaining but surely they would have lost by like 4-2 scoreline. Guus did not come with a completely defensive mindset when the game started. The first task was to contain Barca's attack and launch some good counters. But to do this at least Drogba and Malouda needed to be free where Lampard initiates the move. Unfortunately it was lampards off-day so the coach had to improvise with a purely defensive approach by introducing Belleti. This is what makes a good coach, the ability to adjust your team to still get the result needed. If your have watched Barca at the CL you will agree that there is substantial difference btw a Barca team at home and when playing away. They are definitely less convincing away. That is why Barca always wants to finish their opponets off when the play the first leg at home. We have watched a lot of North African teams come to Nigeria to secure a draw, their play is most times lack lustre but when they go back home for the second leg they become like lions. That is exatly what chelsea will do. I strongly see Barca losing at the bridge, guus will surprise Barca again. Remember only Pique will be eligible in the central defense for Barca no puyol and macques |
Good for him , when a coach at that level is looking for finshed product in the local league then he should leave. Whatever happens now let them start early to prepare another team for 2011, invite Oliseh let him start with the u-17. I strongly believe Siasia and Oliseh are the new generation coaches that will take nigeria back to the glory days. |
tombola:Very correct talk. If and only if people can learn to subject themselves to the same standards they demand of others, then this world would be a much better place. @chidichris While I respect ur views , I think this is getting too hot. ur point is made and we understand that it has nothing to do with the club u support. Just let it rest. |
