dayokanu:Are you telling me that wives dont serve their husbands food anymore in addition to attending to other domestic chores? Or are you implying that the men assist in domestic chores including washing the dishes, sweeping, cleaning, that will be unusual in the Nigerian culture. |
For those who disagree on my thought that being a housewife is a fulltime career, I would tell them to reconsider their viewpoints. Traditionally, men are supposed to be the breadwinners and women the man's helper. So, in the past, society dictated that a man had to work while the woman stayed at home to nurture the kids. Times have changed with the high cost of living in the society. Even when women work outside their homes (and some of the men here say that being a stay at home mom is a liability), they are expected to come home and take care of the kids, do the dishes, clean, cook and serve the man food. And the man does not even lift up a finger to help them. Rather, he would expect 'honey' to serve him food, clean up the table and do other domestic chores around. Why? Because it's a woman's job. But hey hey, is it not a man's job to provide for the family? If the woman will equally share in contributing to the household finances, then the man should also assist in domestic chores. Afterall, both of you have jobs outside home and it would be unfair to expect the woman to work double shift at home simply because it's not traditional for a man to engage in housework. There is this picture of Obama, prior to his election as the President of the USA, doing the dishes, and some of the men exclaimed that it was very unafrican (which I totally agreed) But times have changed, mek we boku help women too, dem no be slave. Either they stay at home fulltime or if they work, when they come home, also assist them in domestic chores. It's as simple as that. Women are not slaves. Once, an arguement arose between my cousin and I over this issue. A family friend of theirs graduated from medical school in Nigeria, got married and is now a stay at home mom. Her parents are unhappy that she hasnt utilized her degree and cited the sacrifices they made on her behalf. My cousin saw their reasoning but I completely disagreed with him. I told him that it was the parents duty to educate her, and afterwards, what she chooses to do with her degree is solely upto her and her husband. O |
Being a fulltime housewife is itself work, because you are taking care of the kids, cooking and taking care other domestic duties in the household. It's ignorance to assume that fulltime housewives have it good. No, they dont, and dont even tell me that it's a waste of education for a woman to be a fulltime housewife after finishing college. The fact that she is educated and literate is positive proof that her education is not in vain. Personally, if I am very rich, I would want my wife to be a stay at home mom and take care of the kids in their infancy before transitioning to the corporate world. It's not easy. Give women a break, give housewives a break. Or if your daughter were to tell you that eventually, she would be a housewife after her education, you will choose not to educate her beyond elementary school? My parents are dead, and my senior brother and I took care of the responsibilities of educating our sisters. The youngest, after completing her bachelors decided to do business instead of working 9-5 and I supported her decision and told her that I am ok with it as long as she can live comfortably from it. Or should I have just said, "What a waste of resources after spending 4, 5, 6 years in college?" No! |
Missy ★ B:Exactly! |
paragonpro:I dont know about Nigeria, but I can recall reading about a certain tribe in Mali and their expertise in the solar system even before the advent of colonialism. Please do your research before posting this write-ups. |
Rich pamper their children in America also, or have you not heard of folks like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, P Diddy (who bought an expensive car for one of his sons) and the like of them who paint the town red with ostentatious parties for their wards? You see some of these rich folks establishing trust funds for their kids and the kids hopping from one party to another party in town. Would you say people like Nicole Richie or Paris Hilton have ever held a job working for their fathers? I dont know about that one. They are many of them, just as they are who instil good work ethics in their children, so dont overgeneralize. Some of the Nigerian parents who spoil their kids are perhaps the ones who had it easy in life and are not interested in subjecting their kids to hardship. Personally, if I had a lot of money, while I would let them work hard, at the same time, I would splurge on them too. |

Even if Nigerian houses were built by foreign architects there will still be criticism, so lets give it a rest. Besides, our houses are built to ensure security, for some part because of robbers. No, I like our architecture and prefer it to the UK that I find uninspiring. |
Why didnt Ms Ekiti win? |
What was her role in the Obj's regime? |
So, which contestant is the favorite on Nairaland? Sha, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder but I really think Ekiti is the fairest of them all. |
stillwater:To me, she is the finest of them all. |
Eko Ile:Awolowo is dead, so let another person be given a chance to lead the Yoruba tribe. Besides it's not a hereditary role, so none of the Awolowo's can lay claim to it. His daughter, Tokunbo attempted to be the governor of Lagos state in the 90's but lost the election. If the controversial Tinubu or any other politican aspires to be the next leaders, let them be given the chance to do so as long as they have the mandate of the people. |
Abia and Ekiti |
What role did Awolowo play in the Biafrian war? Another question is this, what's the bone of contention between Tinubu and the Awolowo's? I dont quite understand the story, or could it be that Tinubu wants to be the leader of the Yorubas and the Awolowo's family are saying no to his ambition on the fact that it is strictly limited to scions of the late politician? Let me know please. |

LUSAKA, Zambia -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Saturday warned Africa of a creeping "new colonialism" from foreign investors and governments interested only in extracting the continent's natural resources to enrich themselves and not the African people. Clinton said that African leaders must ensure that foreign projects are sustainable and benefit all their citizens, not only elites. A day earlier, she cautioned that China's massive investments and business interests in Africa need to be closely watched so that the African people are not taken advantage of. "It is easy, . . . http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/11/hillary-clinton-africa-new-colonialism_n_875318.html |

And I would like to think that he trusted his wife so much that he never contemplated that she would cheat on him. Perhaps, this would be the reason why I dont blame men for insisting on having a paternity/DNA testing on their kids to ascertain if they are truly theirs biologically or not. What d'yall think? |
dorleey:I wonder! |
tpia@:What has slavery got to do with infidelity? |
omo_to_dun:She told Arnold to move out and when he refused, she decided to move. |
