A better question will be "how does a born again Christian hear from God?". I am not a pastor, and really, I don't want to one. I'd rather remain a bonafide child of God whom God is well pleased with. I tell you, if you haven't been discerning God's will in other issues of your life prior to now eg job, accommodation, how to spend your money, investments, how to navigate, how to settle a matter etc, then you will either wait until eternity or be misled in the choice of a partner even if you fast for a thousand days! Except also you experience God's exceptional mercy.
Bottom line is hearing from God is a spiritual skill that is developed over time in our walk with God. Such that, when it comes to the marriage hurdle, you will easily know who God's choice is for you if you have been previously hearing from Him on other matters. I laugh when people who have not worked on this skill now resort to fasting. I never did. All the ladies in my view were not God's Choice for me. But when I ran into the lady that God had prepared for me, I had this stir and unease within me. After the brief meeting, God told me to pursue. He even gave me questions to ask her. Then let these representatives shine as a light this nation has never seen, both by conduct and achievement. This will make transition to second phase easier as aim will be taken at gubernatorial positions and more state and national house of assembly posts. This second phase could last as much as 12 years but with painstaking effort, it is achievable. Only after both phases have been executed and reinforced can aim be taken at the presidency. Summary is Nigeria is more likely to be redeemed by a bottom-to-top algorithm rather than vice versa. My submission.

What I usually do at such times are:
*Flee from the source of temptation.
*Become extra close to my wife, arrange dates with her, spend more time with her, buy her things, just generally make sure that till the temptation storm passes, my wife is almost always around me, menses or no menses, pregnant or not.if she has gone on a journey, it may have to be cut short etc
*If wifey ain't around and really far away for legit reasons, then I must ,after fleeing, pray more, fast, study the word more, listen to messages that center on temptation, worship more, fill my mind with only good and pure things, desist from playing with my body etc.
*Remind myself of the covenant I entered into with my wife 12 years ago, that it's her alone - her breasts, her lips, her vagina, her body alone will I nurture and cherish till death do us part!
*I tell myself "why do something you know is bad only to end up saying sorry" , so to avoid the guilt trip and free my conscience, I choose to do right always.
