These charges sef... one wonders why use a bank... I pay for ATM, then pay to withdraw from another bank (after 3x), then also pay my own bank 2% for withdrawing (albeit above 500k)... You can recover 100% of the money you put away under your bed or in a piggybank. But this is not quite accurate... if I want to send money to somebody, I can either do it electronically, or enter transport to go to bank to get money (especially if I don't have ATM card). The I enter transport to meet the person. The time and transport are not zero cost... some of my money will get spent on that physical transfer. The limits for depositing and withdrawing (5% total: 3% for you, and 2% for the person who will inevitably deposit it), cash actually serve as deterrent, so people will just transfer money without the intermediate cash stage. What I don't understand is why transfers are not significantly cheaper? There's a charge to transfer no matter the amount, yet the cutoff for cash starts at 500k. Meaning it's zero change to physically move 100k, yet about 2k to transfer that same amount electronically. That's what's making my head itch. |

BafanaBafana:Abi now? Instead of just appreciating that we have one airport with clean toilets (because as far as I knew, all our airports were dirty), people will be slinging mud anyhow. Who do us this thing? |
"It went viral and different blogger carried it"... isn't that what they wanted. Their mind don dey come down small small... but it's still not a full apology. They need to kneel down and apologize, not all these excuses and "we wanted to draw his attention". Well, they got his attention. If it was me, I would not sue them... I'll just ask one DPO to detain them for the weekend, and they must drop like 10k each for bail. That would teach girls not to be making false claims anyhow, then apologizing as it pleases them. |
chukxie:Thank you my brother... please school them abeg. Just by NASS cutting their $393million budget in half, they can fund so many of these projects we're taking loan (and paying interest) on. I'm not even talking about all the other sources of income the government has... just for NASS to have small mercy and reduce their salaries for the good of the nation. |
What did I tell you? Nigeria and CCTV ... forget we don't have working traffic lights in most of our streets... street light that is just a bulb... talk less of camera. ![]()
|
This is just silly. People take took much risk, then blame government, bad roads, village people, etc. when the risk becomes disaster. This is what road safety should be stopping and fining. ![]() |
coolcharm:Instead of people to pay their taxes to the government, they have been paying those taxes to the church. It's only fair the church fixes the roads, so that there will be no impediment to their customers to come and pay more taxes. |
TOPCRUISE:Not necessarily... as some people have been saying: ignore them, just mind your life, and he might have just ignored it in the past. But girls don't stop making false claims and eventually you have to bare your fangs and let them know they can't toy with you. Enough is enough. Even if na only 10k and weekend cell they drop, let them drop something, so they know not to accuse person anyhow. |
nextstep: Beautyaddy:That's why I said "I don't think." I do not know for a fact, but I'm looking for somebody to refute this guess. If one was to take Lagos (our most populated urban area) as an example, I would guess 50 or so people/week, based on what I hear on news, random bodies we find, missing people reported, etc. Extrapolate to the country, and I personally don't see it reaching 700. |
FarahAideed:Please provide source. For comparison nearly 40 thousand Americans were killed by gun violence alone in 2018. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/us/gun-deaths.html I'm just questioning why USA is not on this list, yet Nigeria is. |
Jaqenhghar: niaralandtopuser:Well, you both have good points. The US lost 39,773 people to gun-related injuries in 2017; and slightly more in 2018; does not include deaths due to accidents or medical causes. That's about 764 deaths per week, according to https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/us/gun-deaths.html and https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/08/16/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/ among many. I don't think Nigeria loses up to 764 people per week to violence. USA is more dangerous, and pointedly more dangerous for black folk. If a survey doesn't include the USA ... I call it flawed. Please provide data to refute my point of view. |
For black people, the most dangerous place to live is in the USA. Two recent ones that we know about, not counting the tens others that get covered up or not exposed. Atatiana Jefferson was shot and killed by police in her house. Police didn't even identify themselves before shooting reflexively. Botham Jean was shot while enjoying ice cream in his own house. Police thought she was in her own apartment. Let's not even start the issue of mass-shootings. Long story short, if this list does not have USA in the top-3, it's not a realistic list. |
See now they are even abusing people... "enh.. it was just a joke, you people are taking it too seriously". "A ya were ghan"... so now they're using insult to cover up their pranks, not even feeling the least bit sorry for the potential harm they could have caused. Imagine if this went on... how it would have affected somebody's marriage plans? Just the fact that they are laughing about it means they need to be taught a lesson. If it was me, I will take it seriously oh. Slander na slander, and we can't just let it slide. I would happily pay 100k to DPO to let them enjoy cell for the weekend, plus they must find bail money. Let me see if they will still be laughing then. |
Olayinka8793:This is the best way to stop this nonsense. Fish them out and let them defend themselves in court. Once hoes see that they can't be talking anyhow, the rest of mind is priceless. Otherwise more and more will show up. 1 milla is less than $3k. Airfare alone for him and Chioma to travel America is nearly $20k. |
Same people who are condemning this photoshoot... I hope they also condemn these... Please don't tell me it's not the same underlying motivations, or that the artist was "noble" or some such. Don't be so close minded because every "old art" was once "avant-garde" and salacious in its time.

wiseone28:What's the point of abiding by the law when lawmakers break the law regularly. They won't provide an enabling environment, but when people do what is needed to survive, they enact harsh penalties. The focus should be giving local farmers cheap (i.e. low-interest) loans for equipment and inputs and making sure the money is not siphoned off by the usual suspects. Build more milling facilities, and in fact give incentives for people in this country to build machines. And finally fixing the road networks so distribution is cheaper and faster. They could even go so far as to give money incentives to the public for buying Nigerian rice (like the way USA subsidizes electric cars by way of "tax credits" ) |
maynation:Igbos full Abuja (and just about every part of Nigeria can be found in Abuja)... you just don't hear about the Igbo who own prime property, run banks, car dealerships, computer shops, schools, fuel stations, hospitals, transport companies, etc. It's only a few misguided miscreants that make the news. But I suspect you already knew this... |
MountainView:Hey... I was curious about how you plan to monetize your platform? Or if you could start a thread talking about it. |
Hmm... I might have to start taking Aunty Kemi seriously oh... she's been making correct calls these days. But until we hear from the horse's mouth (e.g. Interpol or EFCC), I remain skeptical. |
BuhariAdvocate:I'm not a fan of Buhari, but I support this 100%. Some jobless youths and their community leaders were threatening to derail 2nd Niger Bridge, so let's see if this will make them rethink. Contractors are not in the business of providing jobs. They are in the business of making money, and providing jobs is one side benefit, but they use only the qualified labour they want. Government is supposed to create enabling environment for businesses to run, which in turn provides jobs. The fact that the youth in a state are jobless is not the contractor's headache... that's the responsibility of the state. States can suggest, and even make jobs a pre qualification for giving the contract, but a contractor should not be obligated to employ people it does not need. Youths are supposed to vote in the people that will provide an enabling environment. From governor, to senator, to representative (federal and state), to LGA chairperson. They failed to do so, now they should enjoy the fruits of their vote. |
foster212:I'm not sure the sick person in pain is going to care. But you can always put a cloth cover on the back, or just shield the person if it's really a concern. |
correctguy2010:I wonder if you'd feel the same way if the road to you was bad, eroded or otherwise unmotorable by a "proper vehicle". Your choices are walk, be carried in wheelbarrow, bike, or tricycle ambulance. We don't always have the luxury of good roads in this country. |
slimfit1:Because there are times somebody is injured and regular cars can't get to the place due to bad road or it's in the bush. Putting them on a bike is out of the question. How do we move the person if not by keke ambulance? |
RaphaellaDD:Seconded and thirded. For budgeting, I like to use the "pay yourself" model, where from your paycheck: 10% is saved where you can reach it easily in case: savings account. Don't leave it in your current account. This is short term emergency savings. You want to keep adding to this year after year so if you were to lose your income, you can draw from this. Ideally you need at least 6 months of upkeep saved here. Logically, it will take 30 months (6x50%/10%) to save 6 months worth of expenses, so start this ASAP. 20% is invested where you can't easily cash out: buy dollars, land, treasuries etc. This is long term savings to retire on. Even in hard times, do not sell this, that what your 6 months emergency fund is for. 10% is tithed or used for charity. Use this - and only this - for giving away. Don't loan people money, only give what you can give away and forget. You might put this in its own savings account. This is the only place for money to friends, family, or whoever. 10% is for extravagant/impulse spending on yourself (including wife and kids if you have them). Don't tap your savings or investments for this expenditure. It can help to withdraw this money and keep at home for the month. When this money is gone, that's it till next month. 50% is for your upkeep. Housing, feeding, transport, clothing, school fees, etc. The nice thing is after you've removed 50% for saving, investing, tithing and splurging, you're forced to live within this 50% without needing to budget too much. When you "pay yourself" by saving/investing 30%, you can use the rest without any guilt. Your background makes you empathetic... and you can do so freely without hurting your future self by putting it away as soon as it enters your account. |
Not everybody is good at making music... but everybody is welcome to try... ![]() |
Please face your man. He is the one who paid for Nina to come to him. ![]() |
You'll notice these leaders were not elected. They took power from an older generation. If youths are expecting anybody to hand anything to them, they are on a long thing. |
Goandie:And this is a very excellent point. This one looks more for trucks, and the first one looks great for luxury. |
See... last week people were there yabbing the Innoson SUV, not knowing that this was wonderful publicity. Logo makers are making, more of the public will soon start demanding it, car dealerships will soon start selling it. Instead of taking business lessons that is being taught to you for free, keep yabbing. |
See girls rushing to pick, what, #100, #200? Poverty day land oh... |
Fallenhunter:Fundamentally, we can't do it because we've refused to be an industrial country. China is the current cheapest place to do it, and they don't often add too many conditions. Belt and road is not really different from IMF - they won't insist you use European or American companies, but that's what ended up happening anyway. Until we get serious about turning our own iron ore into steel... we'll continue to be at the mercy of foreigners. Our leaders should be learning lessons from China, but are so focused on the wrong things. |
