Hm... Odikwa egu. Not even officials are safe again... hopefully one or two senators will be kidnapped or robbed then they'll have serious discussions. Sadly, they will just increase their allowance to include flights from Abuja to Kaduna... ![]() |
Kanu this, and Kanu that. IPOB this and Biafra that. I had relatives killed in the War and our ancestral home still bears bullet holes from when the Nigerian army riddled my grandfather's brother with bullets. We've left it like that as a reminder. But forget sentiments ... when Biafra was established, do you know what the leadership concentrated on? - fancy titles and awards ceremonies, instead of serious planning - leaders lived well, yet the regular people were barely feeding - bragged and overstated their actual capabilities - overextended themselves by the misadventure into Benin, then Ore. and many other blunders. I see the same mistakes being repeated by Kanu, IPOB, and people here. Talk, talk, talk; grandstanding and pomposity; no serious planning, organization, and worst of all, continuous insult of constituted authority, which causes people to question their seriousness. A serious people who want revolution/independence will be working on increasing self-sufficiency in agriculture and other things; making friends across the country instead of aggravating them; strategic stockpiling of food/medicine/arms; and planning for protection of agricultural land from bombing. If it's referendum, why not silently make friends and allies. Convince people of the merits of it and how it's in their best interest. Kanu should not be making "kpim" at all, just work in the shadows to bring his dream to reality. |
Kaybex007:I hear what you're saying ![]() But then again, if they are not doing legit business and we uncover them, is that not a good thing? There are lots of people doing legit, so they should have no fear. In fact, it will boost their image, attract more investment and success to them, and also undo some of the damage from bad eggs. |
Let's add more people. Here are some (I just copied from Wikipedia): Mark Essien is a Nigerian entrepreneur, software developer and startup investor. In 2015 Mark made the Forbes list of 30 youngest entrepreneurs in Africa. He has also been nominated for the Nigeria Future awards amongst others.[11]Before founding Hotels.ng, Mark Essien had previously built a file sharing software called Gnumm (acquired by Snoopstar.com), followed by a language learning startup called Ingolingo. - Wikipedia Tayo Oviosu - Founder of Paga, a Nigerian mobile payments company that allows users to send money, pay bills and receive payments easily from any mobile phone. Oh ho ho... e don dey happen oh! Kidnappers are getting closer to the people in power... maybe they will finally start paying attention to the plight of the masses. Hm... at this rate it won't surprise me when governors and senators get kidnapped, this one that we're about to enter 'ember months... |
seunmohmoh:See what I mean? Even you can't tell, that's how generic they are beginning to look. That pic was from Oyii's page: https://www.instagram.com/p/ByNxZW5D10u/ Let me even add Toke's picture here for comparison to the two I posted earlier.

I've been saying I can't tell the difference between our actresses again: between bleaching, pancake, hair, brows, lashes, and eyes. Oya which one is Onyii, and which one is Halima in these pictures below?

I really like this practice of removing sand from drainage, leaving it right next to the drainage so it will fall back in at first rain. Then next year we remove the same sand from the same drainage... endless employment. It's always a wonderful idea. ![]() |
Beverlyjean:Not sure what you mean... wasn't Kanu detained for 1 and half years? 14 October 2015 - 28 April 2017. So Buhari has tried it, and even came python dancing which sent Kanu off to UK like a thief in the night. But seriously all this tribal/cultural/sectionalist bashing is not doing anybody any good. Both Sowore and Kanu are speaking out against tyranny and ineptitude. The different looters - no matter their state of origin - are all enjoying their loot while they sow discord among people who should be united against them. People are here shouting and pointing fingers on Nairaland when the cause of our discomfort is the same. |
Grupo: 1StopRudeness:Yah... I should have been clearer... 60k per annum which divided by 12 is 5k/month. Of course it's not a livable income, but neither is a business with 500k after all things considered. Starting business in Naija since 2015 is not what it used to be, and I've funded a few businesses myself with that kind of money only to see the thing dwindle to nothing. First rent of shop, then equipment, then supplies, then utilities. So you may have sunk up to 500k just starting up. Then you hope to see 5k-10k/month profit (which is about 10%-20% on 50k/month sales, very reasonable numbers). The money I jejely put in tbills is quietly earning me interest and I still have my principal. Eventually, when I gather enough, I will continue building real estate, but this takes time. Generally, businesses of any kind have an ROI of at most 20% annually. To earn any good return on 500k with a business that you can live on, you will have to work very very hard and risk losing all your money. Might as well work for somebody and keep your principal. |
The best "business" with 500k in this Buhari era is just fixed deposits/treasury bills where you're guaranteed interest with very little risk. Everything else, in my opinion, will cause you to work too hard for too little gain. After all the businesses you can start with 500k today, you are lucky to see consistent 2-5k profit weekly. Reason am: 500k @12% = 60k. Just my own sha... |
ubcandid:I was pointing out that consumer and industrial goods of the same quality (not knockoff or imitation) cost the same amount of dollars: smartphones, cars, TVs, air conditioners, paint, tiles, generators, laptops, etc. Yes, there are cheaper (Chinese) versions that Nigerians have access to, but if an American bought those cheaper versions too, they'd pay the same price. For instance, a tokunbo Camry in Nigeria costs about the same in the US, in fact more in Nigeria since resellers need to profit. Similarly for buying a machine for your business (of comparable quality). That's why I say they are the same in dollar terms. But we're working 8x the amount of time in Nigeria to afford the same goods. A middle-class American can buy a $200 (N100k) Android phone with two day's wages after tax ($100/day). A comparatively well paid middle-class Nigerian, making 250k monthly, will work almost 12 days to make that same amount of money (N8k/day) In fact, after adding cost of import/clearing, the goods cost more dollar for dollar in Nigeria. |
A young man from Agolumo community under Patani local government area of Delta State has chosen to take his life-giving the reason of his death to the continual denial of his wife to give him what he has duly paid for, for reasons best known to her.Nigerians and hasty conclusions... the man complained about lack of sex, then they jump to conclusions that was the reason he took his life. Did he leave a note stating this? |
So... standing and sitting aimlessly around some shopkeeper's premises qualifies as "waiting for Buhari"? Instead of people to build actual influence, they are her being a nuisance. I'm sure the security agents are just like... "I can't wait for this freaking conference to be over..." |
straighttalk:Ask the "bold and courageous" US companies in 2008 if they relied on government assistance. Truth is every business needs government to create and sustain an enabling environment and policies, even to the point of rendering financial assistance when needed. N1.7Billion... no be beans oh!! I really can't ask more of a businessman who has invested that kind of money in the Nigerian environment. But wait, where do these business people find this kind money in Nigeria? Ha! This country is a goldmine if one knows where to look and how to tap it... |
Beautyaddy:Reciprocity is what they say, but we know that when an American works to earn $100, it takes a Nigerian almost 8 times the labor to produce that amount... so the "pain" of $100 in US is like $800 in Nigeria. It's not really reciprocal. Not to mention the cost of living for their staff deployed in Nigeria is way cheaper than Nigerian staff deployed to US. Anyways, those who want to go will still find 2-4 million Naira to go, even though it can start a very good business here. I've been using this 8x factor since the GDP per person is US is about 8x Nigeria, and in comparing average middle-class wages, yet the cost of most goods of comparable quality (e.g cars, phones, even cement) does not change much between countries. |
Bunnatex:Savings - i.e. cash - is a fundamental foundation in anybody's journey. Investments - including business - should be treated as long-term projects that you expect to grow over time. You should have enough savings (emergency funds), that will tide you through rough times, job loss, business downturn, or other unexpected expenses. You don't want to pull from your investments at the worst times, and having a cash cushion gives you a choice as to how to deal with things. Investments are good growth vehicles, while cash savings are insurance to protect that vehicle. Insurance costs money, and the meagre interest you get from the bank reflects the relative safety. Even if your savings lose buying power due to inflation, you simply add to them yearly, so that you can invest more aggressively. That way, when your investments inevitably suffer (due to business cycles), you won't be bothered because you didn't intend to withdraw investments for decades. I'm actually surprised an accountant appears to be pushing investments solely, which exposes clients to higher overall risk. |
Toscarel:You get am... if I break my piggy bank today, I will be lucky to see up to 10k... all in #100 notes or less. It's easy to save when you have other people helping out with provisions, some meals, even tfare and hair. And what is paining me even more is some girls you take to provisions, they will order half the store including cake and cream, meanwhile I just came for bread, margarine, maybe some Titus and kpekere. |
Lovelive:I hope so, but we can't keep saying "we'll get it right" everyday, yet when presented with the opportunity every four years, make the wrong decision. I can't help but imagine - like some people - Adesina as President... how this country would progress. I've always admired his intelligence, wit, charisma, and genuine desire for improving Nigeria. But people won't vote for him, even if he presented himself as a candidate. It's so painful. |
If only people of his time concentrated on providing good governance. How many hospital equipment could have been paid for with that car? How many small factories? We see the same flamboyance in current politicians all over the country. It's a beautiful car, and I like the look of classic cars. Yet the places these cars are purchased from have figured out running water and constant light to all households. |
Water + high voltage do not mix... chai... this is a tragedy just waiting to happen... if anything should fall and hit those iron bars they are holding... Delta State Governor ... please do something. twitterers, abeg retweet |
Let me goan listen to Oluwa ni... that was the major jam for most of 2016 ![]() But remember when "It's Young John the Wicked Producer" was everywhere? |
Honestly, the way some guys cannot just respect themselves... it makes me cringe just to see this guy misrepresent manhood. They lavish so much unnecessary attention on girls... some guys have to reorient their minds because they have a lot more to offer than she. Unless you're one of those guys who actually has nothing else to offer but d1ck; my apologies if that's the case. ![]() |
Shuooo!?!? And the sad part is the innocent person who carries this can end up being executed... |
DedeNkem:And what would be the reason behind the wealthy billionaires of Nnewi? It it this same corrupt politicians? Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, Cletus Ibeto, Cosmas Maduka, Innocent Chukwuma, Gabriel Chukwuma, Alexander Chika Okafor, Augustine Ilodibe, Ifeanyi Ubah, Louis Onwugbenu, Obiajulu Uzodike, to mention but a few. All from one town. Work hard, produce things that sell, use your connections well. What is wrong in that? |
StOla:Making sense. Well said my guy. |
PrecisionFx:I very rarely call people out, but I think you're just intentionally being an IDIOT. I am from Asaba, and I am all over SE and SS. I call Onitsha, Enugu, Owerri my other homes. You want to tell me that you don't see how - every season - small gullies develop. Sometimes at the side of the road, sometimes near homes, sometimes at river banks. EVERY season it gets worse as more soil gets eroded. Then after a few seasons there's not enough solid soil underneath the road or property and suddenly it collapses (e.g. landslide). And you're pointing me to wikipedia to tell me that it was not predictable and preventable? And want to drag FG for matter that is devolved to the LGA and State? For the record, the same problem happens in Ogbomosho. Any damn place we have a lot of rain, poor planning and drainage, coupled with lack of foresight - we have erosion which is ignored till it becomes landslide. Every primary school child has seen soil erosion in real life, and was taught in a class about the cause and effect. We can argue this point, but you know I'm damn right on this issue. Instead of discussing the logic and how to prevent this by the people who we pay fees to (local), we want to drag FG into a matter it has no business with. |
Greenback: PrecisionFx:This landslide was obviously caused by erosion over several years (if not decades) of neglect. You can see gullies all over SE and SS and often times city and LGA don't pay it any mind until it's too late. It's up to local government to decide how to partition and develop the land. They are in charge of where local roads go, where houses should be built, how to channel water and build drainage. I don't remember paying CofO or development fee to FG. I paid to State and LGA respectively. I pay land use taxes to the State, and even paid fees to the Obi of the town, including youths. What I'm saying that responsibility falls upon those I pay those fees to. Desertification is not as a result of poor city planning or drainage, and I can understand why that would be a national issue. If there was some unprecedented rainfall or earthquake, then I can agree that it would be FG's domain. However, the amount of rainfall we get very year can be planned for; and the fees we pay should be used to make sure that the predictable, repeatable amounts of rainfall every season does not result in flooding and erosion. Build proper drainage after understanding water flow, don't litter, plant trees and shrubs to hold soil together, don't do too much interlocking or cement which prevents water from soaking into the ground naturally: these are things we all learned in primary school. |
I'm reminded of a rap verse: "her lips so big chapstick had to invent a spray"... ![]() But seriously, the people vexing on Khafi matter... are you not watching the show? Isn't she giving the people what they want? Irony |
”The arrest of these 80 Nigerians by the FBI is commendable and their fraudulent activities highly condemnable. More reasons we need to support our EFCC to fight against these fraudsters that have brought nothing but pains to our loved ones and shame to our country. #GoLegit Thunder fire this man well well. Upon all his stealing, and those of his mates in Government, he want to be preaching to us? Abi is he codedly telling us that #GoLegit means it's ok to steal as long as you're in politics? Because I'm confused ![]() |
I don't need extra motivation to go and make money abeg. That kind motivation that will lead people to steal and cheat abi? I'm just happy with the small I have, I try to save and manage it well. Last thing I need is a woman to come and start "motivating" me by spending what I have. And the painful thing is they won't buy useful things like assets (house, land) or do real business with it). Just for trips, "maintenance", phone and car. If she likes money so much, she should go and earn it joor. |
You know, with all the pancake, eye brows, and hair, it's getting hard to tell who is who anymore... They are all beginning to look the same. The only way I know who I'm looking at is because of the topic. |
