Hmmm! Mothers travelling to give birth now, I don't envy you people at all and I don't know how you are going to do it. Banks will stop the use of ATM cards abroad from January. It is going to be crazy and it doesn't look like this present government has a clue on how to manage the economy.

For those of us who have relatives coming back this season , order as many baby foods and diapers as you would need through them, the rest can be shipped down.

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 3 by Nogen:
This hearing test of a thing sef. When my babies were still in the NICU, a nurse kept telling me about an important test the babies would go through before they got discharged. I kept wondering which test that could be and if it was part of NICU bills, an already paid one or a separate bill.

They never mentioned hearing until I asked for the name and how much it was? They have already wheeled their equipment into the room. I asked them not to please proceed until I was sure of the package. The nurse said 350 dollars per child and I asked if it was compulsory. The response was no. I quickly declined the test , that they would be carried out when we returned to Nigeria.

In all honesty, I would have loved to have the test carried out but when I did the maths, I couldn't just pay that money. When the babies finally got home, I started carrying out my own hearing test on all of them. I kept remembering the case of a Nairlander whose baby failed the test at the hospital and began treatment immediately. That pushed me in conducting my own hearing test. I would make loud noise in the room and watched if the babies would get startled.

My mum was wondering why I wouldnt let the babies have a good sleep. Whenever, I remember my antics, I laugh. God help us make good decisions in life.

D same with me o! Esp with the way my baby was conceived and I left before I started showing. Thank God she looks exactly like me.
I overheard a neighbour asking another how old my baby is, that if she didn't know better, my baby looks 8mths old and not like a 3mth old. Am sure dey would av been asking if I really gave birth or adopted! But WHO CAREShuh
Really, who cares? My mum announced to some people in the village that I was expecting. I was upset with her. Do you know her response? "I don't want people to say you adopted children since you won't be having them in Nigeria." I told her that I don't give a damn about what people think or say. Who cares really?

Congrats dear. But something struck me in your post where you talked about why you didn't give birth to your first baby in the US. The truth is that those who would talk will still talk, even after giving birth here in Nigeria. The earlier we stopped caring about what people say , the better for us. Wishing you the very best in this journey.

If u do the math ETC is cheaper o. Aside the fact that the blue Pali won't leave ur sight grin.

We r besties after all we did ETC grin
You are so right firsttymum. It's a lot cheaper, especially for a triplet mum like me that spends ×3 for almost everything. Also, you don't have panic attack wondering if your child's (children's ) blue Pali arrived safely. Modath and Nefertitiram, you people didn't invite us abi? Because we are a crowd, eh ? llol

Not true. I have used all 3 and I can tell you that Parents choice diapers are not anywhere near huggies and pampers.

Thanks Nogen, for always coming to rescue of inexperienced missionaries.
Several people here have said that I should do my shopping when I get into the US, so I guess that has been partially addressed. But you know how it is with triplets; were you really able to shop before delivery?. I will be traveling alone at 23 wks GA, but my mum and husband will come like 2weeks to delivery. My main concern bothers on being able to get all that I require before my trio show up. Pls share your experience and any advice. Thanks a lot.
My pleasure sis. Congratulations dear. As soon as you get there, try and buy all (basic things) that you would need before and just after the babies arrived. After delivery, when you have gotten enough strength and you have people who can help you out with the babies, you can go buy most of the things they will use as they grow. The reason is that you may not be able to shop as much as you would have loved to due to the pregnancy. Movement will become difficult at some point. You can send me a pm so I can give you further tips as I remember them.
Also, if mummy or hubby can make it ealier than that, the better for you. You would need someone beside you most of the time because as you progress, you won't be able to do much anymore. You will become mostly DEPENDENT. Even getting up or laying down on the bed will become quite tasking on your legs and waist. I'm not trying to scare you but it is an amazing experience. Make sure one of them is there with you early enough.

Hello Hauz,

Thanks to all contributors here. I have taken time to go through all parts of this educative thread. For those that have used Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC), can you kindly share how it works and the advantage it presents over going for a Nigerian Visa or passport. Not much has been discussed about it although it appears cheaper than the VISA option from what I have read. Are there any special requirements to use it and are there any implications that may arise later if it is used?
No implications except if you didn't make a copy of the ETC before submitting to the Nigeria Immigration in Lagos or Abuja. You will need the photocopy when you go for your child's Nigerian passport here in Nigeria.

Pls how much is the ETC
And is it original birth certificate?
Plus how many passports do we need to send
2 passport photos, original certificate, letter of consent signed by both parents. I think it's between 250 and 270 dollars.
