The main lesson I learned from this is that tribalists are stupid. You can see different Nigerian tribes ably represented here (although many are missing too). Our only enemies are the political class from all the tribes, not one another. But some of us, instead, choose to defend them and think that we are doing ourselves some good.

We have to have faith in the democratic system. I think come 2023, most folks will be a bit wiser when it comes to voting. So assuming their isn't fraud as the elements in power are aware their time is up. Then power should shift south.

My only fear is :

A . Power does shift south, elements loyal those in power may stage a coup.

B. Power does shift south, there is no coup but elements in the North will complain of marginalisation. They will then start terrorist and succession efforts like the Tigray are currently doing in Ethiopia. After being thrown out of power for wielding outsized influence over the country for decades, pretty much in exactly the same fashion to Fulani here in Northern Nigeria.

Then it for Southern politicians to hold firm. If they don't we will be back to square one.

I have a different view.

I think we can all agree that the security situation is terrible and should be fixed. It is a failure of this govt considering that it is an area the President should be most competent in. However, recall the successes in fighting insecurity in the earlier years of this administration and only started suffering reversal in fortunes in the last 1-2 years. They may yet reverse it as barrage of criticism mounts which should wake them up from their slumber.

On infrastructure, you can't describe it as 'minimal' for what has been borrowed. All the completed and ongoing rail infrastructure, airport terminals remodelling, 2nd Niger bridge, several road infrastructure (Abuja-Kano, Lagos-Ibadan, PortHarcourt-Enugu just to name a few. There are several others there), AKK gas pipeline, Siemens Power deal and many others. All these for the roughly $20bln borrowed. For comparison, China spent $1.3trillion on infrastructure while the US spent about $400bln on infrastructure within the same period. Look, we have to spend on infrastructure to kick-start our economy and create jobs and wealth. It will take some time to see the results. Others are doing it, it is also the bedrock of Ethiopia's recent economic boom.

On nepotism and ethnic strife, much as it is important to balance appointments across our country, it is less of an issue for me. I will rather have competent people in positions irrespective of where they come from. How much has changed with so called balanced appointments? Is it not the same looting and corruption we see? Unless of course you are advocating that the looting should go round. Let us focus on more serious issues of governance that will benefit the populace than dwelling on where someone comes from. I dont support his nepotism but I am saying it is not the most important thing.

But when it comes to Infrastructure again as with most Nigerian projects, a good number you cited are as of yet INCOMPLETE. I am no longer interested nor impressed by scheduled projects, I am only interested when those projects are done.

As for ethnic strife, now I know you are either a Northerner or someone who is benefiting from the current regime. The primary issue is that most of those appointed are not competent. If they were Nigeria wouldn’t look the way she does, but rather like Indonesia or Brazil (some other comparable nation)

Nepotism is anti meritocratic, the very reason why we had quotas is because based on merit and education the civil service would be packed with southerners. It was based on the misguided idea that regardless of intellect, the civil service should in some small way reflect the population being governed. It has proven to be a big mistake.

Also there would indeed be corruption under other groups, but at least under say Jonathan and Obasanjo, Nigeria moved forward economically. Under Northern stewardship we have always seen the economy go backwards. Under Shagari, Nigeria lurched from crisis to crisis. His economic mismanagement led to him expelling innocent Ghanaians under his misguided ‘Ghana must go’ policy in an effort to free up jobs. The Ghanaians have never forgotten and probably never forgive us for their treatment during that period. What makes it worse is that as a Southerner we had no hand in such dispicable treatment of our neighbours as it was Northerners who were ruling at the time. When it comes to Buhari and his litany of economic failures I don’t need to repeat myself. I almost forgot the outright looting that occurred in the Abacha and Babangida eras.

I say the above not out of malice, but because I am honest. A corrupt culture of some sort exists in almost all nations. But it is different in a country run by competent politicians than one where the politicians are dishonest as well as being useless.

I am afraid Buhari and his cabal need to go for reasons I have clearly outlined.

You are not been fair on this President. Do you know details around the budget and what it is intended to do? 2020 budget implementation will end by Mar2021 meaning 2 budgets will run concurrently in the first 3 months of 2021, giving the 2020 budget a better implementation chance after the pandemic messed up revenue projections and therefore proper implementation in 2020.

With all the challenges of this administration, they are still better managers of scarce resources. Returning budget cycle to Jan-Dec is the first step towards disciplined implementation.

How have I not been fair..?

Increased insecurity with Boko Haram and Isis in the Sahel running rampant across the north.

Increased banditry across many areas of the country.

Increased poverty across the nation, in fact under Buharis tenure Nigeria now has the shame of having the largest poor population in the WORLD

Increased ethnic strife with very biased political appointments across the nation. So bad that everyone from Bishops to ordinary citizens have condemned it..

Minimal infrastructure improvements despite billions being borrowed by the Naija govt.

I removed the words not because I wanted to placate him, because I didn’t want the point to get blocked or removed. It is important that young Nigerians know that as a people we can succeed. That there are successful Nigerians sometimes of modest origins who have made it at home and in the west.
