European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Manchester City Spend £240 Million On Strikers! by norrisman(op): 2:09pm On Jul 30, 2011
Manchester City have spent £240 million (excluding wages) on strikers since 2008. At present they have 7 strikers on their books who cost a total of £190 million. In my opinion this is ridiculous. The owners obviously know they are throwing money down the drain and the money will never be recouped. Not that they care anyway. I think some of this money down the drain would be better spent to help those people living in the horn of Africa. I remember it took weeks for the aid organisations to get countries to pledge £8 million (not donate - A pledge is to promise so its not guaranteed). How does anyone in their right senses expect the likes of Arsenal to compete in this kind of crazy market.

Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid - £38 million  July 2011
Edin Džeko from Wolfsburg - £27 million January 2011
Mario Balotelli from Inter - £24 million August 2010
Carlos Tevez from Manchester United - £47.5 million July 2009
Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal - £25 million July 2009
Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn - £17.5 million June 2009
Craig Bellamy from West Ham - £14 million January 2009
Robinho from Real Madrid - £32.5 million September 2008 (sold to Milan for £15million in August 2010)
Jo from CSKA - £18 million June 2008 (sold to Sport Club Internacional for £6 million in July 2011)

How can the UK recognize a group of terrorists who skin and behead black men alive. They believe these guys who commit such attrocities are the true representative of the people of Libya? Look on the internet to find evidence of their attrocities. Since so many of these attrocities are available on video, it must mean an even larger number are going unreported.

Wetin United for United Nations
1 veto vote is equals to 92 or more.

France is a member of the same United Nations that passed resolution 1970 stoping anyone from arming both sides in Libya yet France (openly) and others (clandestinely) continue to supply arms to the terrorists. Resolution 1973 asked for the protection of civillians, yet more civillians have been killed since UN led hostilities began in March than before.

Many of the problems Nigerians experience today in Nigeria is a symptom of the lack of national pride and selflessness. While things began to rot, if people organized and came together and said "no" its possible things would not be as bad today.

One of the reasons why countries like america got to where it is today is that the people as saw themselves as americans and were willing to do what it took to make the country a better place.

Sorry but this guy shouldbe called Odemchi as in Odechukwu Jonathan. I do not want to diss anyone becuase of their level of education but you must be either educated to a very low level or you are just plain dumb. All your examples are so meh!

1. Taking up credit is a personal choice. You do not have to make use of credit facilities but it may be necessary to do so to build your credit if you plan to buy a house in the future as you do not find overnight millioanires in america who can afford to buy a $500,000 house cash like you do in that mad country Nigeria where government officials use the peoples commowealth for themselves.

2. The 24 hour system is part of what makes the country and very few people work are compelled to do 12 hour shifts. even when you do a 12 hour shift, you ahve the appropriate number of days off. If you care to know my dads driver in Nigeria arrives at my house at 6Am in the morning and only leaves after droping my dad off at 10/11pm and he does this 6 days a week. sometimes he is asked to come on Sundays as well and there is no official overtime! how many ours is that. The same goes for the boys in my mums shop. 8am to 7pm Monday to Saturday for N12,000/ month.

3. Professional devalue my a$$. In the western world, experience counts. All your paper cerificates are worthless! What do you expect? To walk of the plane and into a $100,000/ year job? Wake up mofo! pay your dues.

4 Does any memebr of your family have N83,000,000 cash to pay for a house. Cut your coat. Tthere are house way cheaper than that. You can get $50,000 house in some run down parts of Atlanta if you can afford it. Please give me the contact details of the car seller in Nigeria where I can buy 2 brand new SUVs for N6.6million.

5. Screw native language. can Barack Obama speak Kenayan or whatever they speak over in kenya? Is he not the bloody president.

In summary, You are not a very bright spark!

For those who are asking where the hatred may have come from. Norway contributed and continues to contribute troops and resources to the war in Afghanistan. Norway is currently involved in the bombing and killing of soldiers and civillians in Libya. The dead soldiers in Libya have wives and children and they did not ask for this illegal war! Have any of you seen what the rebels in the eastern part of Libya are doing to captured Libyan soldiers? Black soldiers have been especially singled out. Search the web and find the truth! Many civillians have also been killed by NATO and rebel forces as well as Libyan forces. NATO have made a bad situation worse!

Whilst I understand the outrage at the attrocities in Norway today what I cant understand is why there is never any outrage at NATO and rebel attrocities in Libya. You have to search really hard on the web to find information about these attrocities because the media are complicit in covering up these western led crimes.

War! What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!

Violence will only bring destruction, God almighty give your children patience o! (Lagbaja)
Car TalkRe: Ever Had Your Vehicle Stolen, Or Broken Into? by norrisman: 8:52am On Jul 15, 2011
I havent expereinced car jackers personally but had family members who have.

My dad got jacked in Abeokuta around '87 and had his 1 year old Peugeot 505 taken at gun point. Then in 2005, I think can remember properly now, on my street, My dad and his driver unluckily ran into them mofos, they ordered them out of the car and they got in and drove the car off but luckily the car had one of those immboilisers that cut of fuel supply and the car was found the next day abandoned with the key in the ignition a few streets away. He has also had the car broken into on a few occassions.

My in-law had his one day old car taken from where it was parked and it was never found. Car bought - taken home - next day taken to friends place - parked and locked - go in for 10 mins - come out and car is gone.

@ Sledjama

I feel your pain bro. If you had one wish now, I know you wouldnt care for all the other material things but will just wsh you had your laptop back. I got robbed in Uni one night and got cleaned out, I mean completely cleaned out, even my washing up soap was taken. Luckily I saw the thieves at the end of their robbery and we gave chase with the help of the vigilantes, they ran and dropped almost everything but the first thing I lookd for was a box which contained all my certificates and everything that showed I had been through the four walls of a school since age 4.

@ Siena

Well done for crippling that scum. I always say to people that if someone breaks into my house or tries to take my property, I will inflict the most damage possible to that person if I get the upper hand. They always talk about the law and all but I say to them, in the heat of the moment, I will damage the guy first and then we can go and settle the case in court later. Big shout outs to you, Tony Martin, Munir Hussain, Samuel Quamina, Peter Flanagan and all the other unsung heroes who are reducing the number of scum on the streets.

And this is the Nigeria some tools will tell you will get better one day? A country where something obviously illegal is enshrined into law and made legal. This was obviously passed into law by state house of assembly members who claim they are serving the interests of the people. Like someone posted earlier, the most an ex governor should get should be a good pension which at most is equal to what he earned while in office.

Nigeria is going to fail! Maybe not now but eventually it will fail. There are two types of people that want Nigeria to remain one, the type that benefit from the largesse e.g ex-governors in Kano and Kwara states and the type that are complete tools who can not reason or their brains are completely dead.

Ian Wright is a tool! Not being rude but if no be say God bless the guy, who him for be to dey pen opinion for newspaper. The guy is a stark illiterate rewire (electrician) before football brought him out of the gutter. Imagine a London born and bred guy saying Chelsea FC is across the river from the Arsenal! Nuff jokes!

Which other paper could he be writing for apart form The Scum, that racist and bigoted newspaper bought by the illiterate working class people of UK who know nothing and believe what is written in the newspaper as gospel. Ian Wright doesnt realise (he is too dumb to see this) that this right wing press organisations just use him as their ethnic representation to gloss over their obvious hatred of anyone whos not like them. The guy even used to present on TalkSport, a radio station where people like John Gaunt (Gaunty) an open racist and secret BNP member also presented. The guy is too dull. You should have seen the guy when he used to be a pundit on BBC. He was usually lost and when he spoke, he said rubbish.

Whos is going to buy Arsenal, Ian asks. Ask Alisha Usmanov whether him done see person wey go sell am shares. If Arsenal shares werent desirable, they should be everywhere for a dime a dozen. Ian also thinks real fans dont care about debt and Arsenal should be given the kind of funds City and Chelsea get. I have a one word answer for that; Illiteracy!

It is disingenuous of you to try to compare security personnel attached to a foreign mission to security personnel attached to an individual who isnt a member of government. Host countries are mandated to provide security for foreign missions and this happens all over the world. In the UK there is a branch of the Met Police called the he Diplomatic Protection Group (DPG) whose primary responsibility is the safety and security of London's diverse diplomatic and government community.

So you argument doesnt wash at all.

Now please tell us, on what side of the fence are you since you have home training?

Are you on the side of the folks praising Fashola or the people insulting Fashola?

Where is the sense and wisdom in trashing and insulting the man for doing his job?

At least we know you and the clown you are defending have no manners or home training.

I havent seen any praise singing topics about Fashola today. Wetin happen? there must be something, at least something. I know Sunday is a slow news day but there must be something newsworthy of making frontpage on Fasholaland. At least he must have paid his tithes in church or something, anyone?

CrimeRe: Horror: Nigerian Man Stabs Wife To Death, Cuts Her Into Pieces by norrisman: 7:23pm On Jun 30, 2011
Mental health is an area that is neglected in Nigeria. I know of only two institutions that deal with mental health issues in Nigeria; Yaba Left and Aro in Ogun state. There may well be others but the issue is that these institutions only deal with cases where there is no redemption i.e. cases where people have completely lost it and these institutions serve as asylums and not rehabilitation centres.

Many people suffer from mental issues in Nigeria and is clearly evident on Nairaland but because of our cultural sensitivities, cases are buried or prayed about and illnesses get worse and beyond treatment.

Anyone that thinks this guy was anything other than a mental case needs to broaden their world view.

Eko Ile:
Why waste your time typing all that ignorant and meaningless bad bele rubbish?

Even some said the same Jesus you referenced never walked on water, some are still saying man never walked on the moon and some still think Tupac is alive.

So you ranting about what Fashola is doing or not doing is absolutely irrelevant, the fact that folks in London are talking about him is a reflection of what Lagosians saw in him when 82% voting Lagosians gave him a landslide victory to keep administering their affairs, they call it absolute vote of confidence. These are Lagosians on the soil of Lagos, not the Londoners you easily discounted because they are not on the Ground, that's including the fact the you cluelessly didn't tabulate the many Naija Londoners jetting back and forth from Lagos to London and passing positive info about the Governor and Lagos state to other Londoners.

We've read a lot about about him in Nigeria, in the Time magazine, in the Huntington post, in the London economist magazine, we saw him on CNN, he collects awards and recognitions from local and foreign media, US president Bill Clinton and his foundation recognized and gave him an award. Other Governors in Nigeria are admitting openly that his the best.

You see, you are really on your own with your puerile and misguided bad bele, you sound like one of those sad, misguided and disgruntled elements, you see nothing good in yourself and you have no faith in yourself and other people,

Lagosians are obviously a million miles ahead of people like you.

Big deal. This man must be like Jesus Christ to some people. To me o, the man has done fuc.kall worth all of the accolades he gets. At least from what I saw when I was last in Naija.

So kini big deal if He spent an hour with underpriviledged kids. What about the people who work with them on a daily basis? How many of you know Mrs Mordi who runs the Down Syndrome Association of Nigeria privately set up with her own money or Mama Ekundayo who took over 400 children into her care in her lifetime (God rest her soul)

These are the real heroes not Fashola who tries to launder his image at every given opportunity. This is just playing to the gallery and unfortunately many Nigerians swallow the BS hook, line and sinker. I will confess his PR machine is excellent and that is one department of his where he is getting true value for his money. Even people stuck in the UK for years who have no first hand experience of what Fashola is doing, swear by his name.If this was really about the kids, no one really needs to know, It should have been a private moment for him.

Bensonite:
For your update only! Mrs Madueke got an exemption letter from NYSC as this came up during her first appointment in 2007 at the floor of the senate. So back to the OP.
The exemption cant be right cause there are only a few instances which someone else already posted on another thread where you are exempted if you graduate before you are 30. So her exemption certificate if she has any was illegally obtained.

Decree 51 that establishes NYSC is very clear and unambiguous. As long as Diezani Allison-Madueke graduated before the age of 30, she must serve. It does not matter if she attended Unilag or Unipetrol. If she assumed public office in Nigeria before doing so, then she would have violated that law. Simple!

The criteria for her exemption from NYSC are also crystal clear:

1. If she was over 30 when she graduated, or

2. If she had served in the armed forces of the Federation or the Nigeria Police Force for a period of more than nine months, or

3. If she was a member of staff of any of the following:

(i) the Nigerian Security Organisation, or
(ii) the State Security Service, or
(iii) the National Intelligence Agency, or
(iv) the Defense Intelligence Service; or

4. If she had been conferred with any National Honour

For as along as she met none of these criteria, then she would have violated the law establishing the NYSC.

While I would also agree that she may not be the first or the only one to have 'dodged' NYSC and still gotten a job in Nigeria, we all have to realise that when you go fishing, you don't catch all the fishes that snag your line. She may be (yet) the fish to be caught. If the senate approved her appointment as a minister without asking to see her NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, then our senators must have made a meal of a very simple assignment.
Thanks Rhea for this info

Very few valid points but mainly stupid opinions. In the authors job, he may come across a few idiots but out of a population of 20 million children (my estimate) the opinions of a recruitment agent is hardly representative moreso without a research data. So what is contained in the article is just one persons opinion.

If I work hard and I am lucky to be able to afford first class, I should make my kids fly economy or maybe in the authors opinion make them go by boat just so they know life is hard. I will take care of my kids and give them the best I can afford. The most important thing is bringing them up the right way. One poster said he will send his children to public schools in Nigeria just so they can experience what he experienced. What a selfish parent.

I will suggest to the author to buy his/ her kids tokunboh clothes, make them walk to school carrying their desks on their head and give them no lunch money. When they are 18 kick them out of the house, maybe they can get a job selling gala in traffic and they might just be able to pay their way through teacher training college.

Graduates cannot get jobs and you are asking an 18 year old with no qualifications to combine education with a job in Nigeria? Are u on hydro? Where are the part time jobs in Nigeria? Government declared minimum wage in Nigeria is N18,000. Most unskilled workers in Lagos earn less than that doing more than 60 hours a week. Now tell me how much a student will get for doing even 20 hours a week to the detriment of their studies.

I will be fair to author and will assume he/ she penned the article after dealing with a spoilt brat in the office otherwise it will be a case of lacking in the upstairs department.

I hate m.u.m.u topics like this. The thing that gets to me the most is when people complain about things like tax, MOT and council tax. Did you not know the rate of tax before you took the job? You do not want to have an MOT? Buy a brand new car every 3 years and give up on that banger you are driving. If an illiterate complained about MOT, I may understand because he probably doesnt understand what it is for but coming from a Linux engineer, I am well disappointed. You dont want to pay council tax but you want your trash to be picked every week, grafitti removed, potholes fixed, parks kept clean e.t.c. where do you expect the council to get money to provide these services? From yahoo yahoo.

You have 2 children and I can bet you did not pay a dime when they were born. Where do you think the NHS gets its funding from? Yahoo yahoo?  I bought my first flat 6 years ago and I have only lived here 9 years and if you care to know I was earning only £18,000 back then. You earn over £50,000 and you are complaining. Have you ever heard of cut your coat according to your size. Tell your wife to get off her sorry behind and help supplement the family income. I earn susbstantially less than £50,000 and I am married to a woman who works as well and we will not swap the UK for anywhere else.

I will not go into details but due to sensible management (we do splash out too afterall life is for the living i.e. designer clothes and 2 holidays a year) we have good equity in 2 properties, 1 of which pays for itself and gives a profit of £250 monthly, Substantial savings, land in Nigeria and 2 cars one of which doesnt require the MOT you dread so much. So next time before you post m.u.m.u topics like this, engage your brain and count your blessings.

I can only guess you did not see the program on the BBC a few weeks ago which showed how migrants try to get into this country through the desert. Watch it on iPlayer so you can have a reality check. Bless

In the rest of his long story, he was just moaning. Would you rather that he continues to kill citizens of Libya?
How many tyrannical rulers are there in Africa and the middle east? The following 'leaders' have been in power for over 20 years each but it is all good with the west as long as thier interest are served or there is nothing at stake for them. Biya in Cameroun, Campaore in Burkina Faso, Museveni in Uganda, Mugabe in Zimbabwe and all those middle eastern dictators who pose as kings.

I loved the revolutions that took place in Tunisia and Egypt. I was watching closely and was expecting the same to happen in Libya. I personally hate any one person to be the leader of a country for more than 10 years. In Egypt, the United States didnt want Mubarak to go as he was their strongest ally (apart fro Israel of course) in the middle east. Why wasnt the US worried about the rights of the Egyptians?. If it wasnt the case that the Egyptian Army is a very disciplined outfit, there would have been large scale killings of real civillians in Egypt and I can bet the US would have done nothing. For however long it took in Egypt and Tunisia, the demostrations remained largely peaceful.

The major demonstrations we have seen across the arab world all have one thing in common, they all started and had their major focal points remain in the capital cities of the respective countries. In Libya however, the demonstrations started in Bengahzi, a city at the other end of the country and so so far from the capital. Within a couple of days the demonstartions had turned to a full scale armed insurrection complete with flags and rebels able to fly jet fighters! Like I said earlier, I was anxiously waiting for the people of Libya to topple Gaddafi but the events in Libya bear no resemblance to a true revolution like was witnessed in Egypt and Tunisia.

Even after the 'demonstrators' against Gaddafi took up arms, I still wanted them to topple Gaddafi but since the US errmmm sorry meant to say the UN intervened, I hope Gaddafi prevails! Dont critisize me just yet please. I hate the man with a passion, what right does anyone have to lead a country for 42 years?! but my reasons are listed below;

1 The war in Libya is not Gaddafi v Rebels, it is Gaddafi v US, UK, France and many other imperialists.
2 Many of you must have seen the video of Gbagbo's soldiers shooting on women demonstrators in Cote D'Ivore and killing a good number of them. where is the UN?
3 The crisis in Yemen have been going on longer than that in Libya with a good number of civillians killed. recently 50 civillians were killed at just one rally, where is the UN? President Saleh is also a key man for them in the region.
4 The imperial west tell us bold faced lies about protecting civillians in Libya everyday when It is obvious to even a retarded 5 year old that they are providing air cover for the rebels. If it is illegal for Gaddafi's soldiers to fight against 'civillians' who have taken up arms, why is ok for Israel to kill Palestinians who have taken up arms? After all the Palestinians are also fighting for a just cause, a country of their own. When Israel kills Palestinians, the Americans say a country has the right to protect itself, why is this right denied to Gaddafi? If  a bunch of guys in Ohio who are not happy with the Obama administration took up arms and started to fight their way to DC, will they not be put down?

I hope this adventure by the west fails and when it does, I hope a true revolution and not a sponsored war by imperialists eventually topples the Gaddafi administration.
