Omeokachie:
Okay, UNILAG is too big for MKO to be honoured with.

Are we cool now?
Whatever you choose to call it.

The simple fact is, it makes no sense to rename an already established institution, an institution whose name already stood out as a brand for over 50 years.

ademoladeji:
Whats the comparison?

Is there any wrongdoing naming an institution after MKO? at least GEJ did something which some good for nothing individuals kicked against. What did OBJ do?

Lets call a spade a spade but not Shovel
Yes I think so, there are many ways to honour whoever needs to be honoured besides changing the established name of an institution; a name which already stands out as a renown brand. People who had attachments to the institution had the right to refuse the name change and they expressed that right.

i thought the south west and by extension unilag held a protest against naming the university after abiola. all of a sudden they are in support of this president in renaming democracy day. this people and hypocracy. who can honour the son of the soil, more than the people of the soil?
Omeokachie:
"The Jonathan government, which I served, had tried to do this in 2012 by renaming the University of Lagos after Chief MKO Abiola, but the UNILAG community – resident and alumni – reacted like cry-babies, they considered the name of their university too sacred, and too big for Abiola, and in the face of the overwhelming sentiment, the significance of the gesture was over-politicized."

Today, the same people that said 'no way' yesterday, are today saying 'yes way'.
ademoladeji:
So constructive...

It was a shame indeed repelling the gesture of GEJ by the UNILAG community after he renamed the school after MKO.

Shame on UNILAG...
How could anyone possibly compare the renaming of a renown physical brand (UNILAG) to the ceremonial adjustment of a public holiday?
PoliticsRe: Ibom Deep Sea Port Latest Update by obailala(m):
sean1000x:
[s]Any day this Ibaka seaport come to fruition and operational, I'll commit suicide. Do you people think this project will ever come to fruition? Do you know that Federal government through National Port Authority has sole mandate on operation of states' sea/river/land ports? You think they will allow this project to come to fruition? Anyday this port comes to operation with Akwa Ibom going against federal might to open it, Akwa Ibom will be bombed to pieces. I know people ask but why? People don't know what's going on in this country? Have you asked yourself why Ports in Calabar, Onne, Port Harcourt and Warri are not working...only used by oil companies and corporations while two Lagos ports are fully working, with two more being built as I type this? You think these SS ports are closed to the public for fancy or for talking sake? These ports are not working for strategic reason to marginalize the East with Igbos being their primary target, and you think Ibaka will ever come to life? What is wrong with our people? Can't you reason? Don't you read history or current situation? The reason they don't want any port to work in Eastern region is to make us Easterners dependent on One Nigeria, so that we will remain with them. Any day SS and/or SE ports are fully operational, that day will mark the end of Nigeria.[/s]
I'm sure this is one of the unfortunate fellows brainwashed mercilessly by the albino.

The only thing preventing the Ibom deep sea port from coming to life is the unseriousness and continuous lip service played successive Akwa-Ibom state governments. The day the Akwa-Ibom government finally gets serious and builds the actual seaport (instead of just on paper), nobody can stop it from functioning; contrary to the nonsense theories a lot of people have been fed with, no one would even attempt to undermine it

Even on this forum, I have read some comments from some random induviduals far far in the past about having June 12 as the rral democracy day. Never knew someone or groyo somewhere would wake up one day to patent the idea. Nothing we no see for Nigeria.

the 1993 was not the 1st presidential election but the first free & fair election we ever held in nigeria. stop lazing around do research ,, becos am yet to learn anything from you
Lol... Oga sharraap ya mouth and gerrarrahia!!

The first thing you blabbed about was that 1993 election was the first democratic election in Nigeria's history. You were called out and simply corrected. Instead of you to maturely acknowledge your error and move on, you kept grazing about the bush searching aimlessly for grass to feed on. And now your latest defence is that you meant "1993 election was the first free and fair election."... how exactly does "free and fair election" equate to "first democratic election" in your encyclopedia?...

All these under bridge schooled fellows claiming superiority of knowledge; wonders shall never end... Oga I say gerrarrahia!!

therefore, 1993 election remains the first & recognised democratic election (100% free & fair) to be held in nigeria.

Since you indirectly claim not to be a lazy minded youth, why don't you properly answer my question by explaining yourself instead of following the all too familiar footsteps of lazy minds (i.e. insults and jabs)?

How exactly was 1993 election the first democratic election in Nigeria?

Actually we can judge based on this single story. If the story was that she was caught with an Iphone, I will wait for her side of the story.
But she was caught while going to retrieve her ransom. That makes her a thief whether the phone was stolen or lost. I have no sympathy for property blackmailers. I prefer they keep their loot and be proper thieves.
charain:
You are being too formal. She probably did not steal the phone but "found" it and wanted ransom in exchange. She is not the first to do it, in fact many stories abound. It is just that she was dealing with a smarter person.
Everything you giys are saying are still based on assumptions; assumptions built purely based in what was written by the Op / the accuser. Are you guys 100% sure that she really asked for ransom for the phone?

some of us donnt need to read history u know,, mko was about to become the first elected democratic president and the prices of commodities were dropping like snow ... happiest moment we ever had in nigeria.
I'm not interested in the arguments on this thread but I just bumped into the bolded. Was Shagari a military man?... Or was he a handpicked caretaker president?

Pray, which assumptions are you talking about?..was an iPhone not found with her or is that not an established fact?
If she did not STEAL the phone and she did not FOUND the phone, how did it end up in her possession then?..was she claiming it was planted on her?..
The problem with Nigerians is that they fail to realize that Extortion is a criminal act and will defend themselves if so accused..
We have heard from one party, let or her legions of supporters state her own version instead of just stating she is not a criminal..
You read in the report that she extorted 50k, can you swear on your life that that is true?

Let's even go back to the first story... You read in the report that she was in possession of a stolen phone, once again, can you swear on your life that she was truly in possession of a stolen phone?

Can you say you have never in your life heard a convincing story which you later found out was totally false when you heard the other side of the story?

Have you ever heard of the ALUU 4 incident?

Just pray that neither you nor your loved ones are ever accused falsely, publicly disgraced and then judged fiercely and condemned by strangers who heard only one side of the story.

And by the way, I did not say she wasn't a criminal, and neither did I also say she was. I only said the story doesn't add up and from my wide experience in life, I know better than to make conclusions before I hear the 2 sides of a story.

NwaChibuzor060:
You are not reasoning as a man who went through hardened childhood should.

What she thought she could do was claim she saw the phone after it was misplaced. If I was also in her shoes I would have gone in person to receive the Ransome .
But no the person she wanted to collect that Ransome from wasn't that dumb. She stole that phone and after she couldnt use it, she decided to return it but at a 50k price. She thought she could use "missing phone" as cover up but that girl is a JJC criminal. For that phone to have stayed long with she's definitely a thief.
Why should you even demand money from me before you can return my property. Thats another crime on its own.
@NwaChibuzor060
You certainly do not know what I have seen in life; whilst you may think you are experienced in these sort of issues, you certainly have not experienced all possible scenarios. You should pray in life that neither you nor your loved ones are ever accused falsely, publicly disgraced and then judged fiercely and condemned by strangers on the road or online (like you are doing now) who heard only one side of the story.

A wise judgment can't be based on a single story, neither can a wise man be made from a single experience.

Reading between the lines, there is a high probability that she didn't actually stole the phone..a Thief is hardly expected to reach out to her victim..
If she found the phone and decided to extort the owner before she can release the phone, that hardly absolves her from being guilty,EXTORTION is a CRIME and can obviously land her in hot soup..
And there you go again, passing another judgment based on just another assumption. Whatever happened to waiting until you heard the other side of the story?... Can we really not live without passing quick judgment?

Of what use or benefit is it to her if she decides to fling it in to the dustbin?..this is Nigeria, everybody be criminal..
Like any dubious minded Naija person she decided that the best thing to do is to try and EXTORT the owner before she can release it,unfortunately for her she it has backfired and she is singing a new song..
But then, if she stole the phone and wants to extort the owner because she cant use it, why then would she appear in person totally defenseless?... Can a true thief be so totally dumb?

Me thinks there is certainly the other side to this story which we're yet to be told. I saw this same report on instagram and there were at least 500 people on the comments who knew and were ready to vouch for the girl. I do not know the girl, but knowing a close friend who has been wrongly accused and publicly disgraced in the past, I think it would be totally wrong and unwise to quickly judge anyone based on stories we read in these blogs after hearing only one side of the story.

Reallyhuh, the only reason such a person is returning the phone is because she can't make use of it due to it being locked..that is a CRIMINAL act..
She can't use the phone she stole and then she doesnt fling the phone in the bin, but rather chooses to return the phone in person knowing fully well she stole it?... I don't think it takes much critical thinking to realise that this story is nonsense. Whoever brought this up needs to tell the full story.

The brazen manner in which Fulanis support and defend their murderous kinsmen without giving a hoot about the feelings of others is most disturbing. Not even the educated, enlightened or highly placed ones are left out from the madness. It started with Miyetti Alah, and then oga IG Transmission calling for cancellation of anti-grazing law, and now it's the defense minister. The Fulanis have through the murderous herdsmen, declared themselves persona non grata; I wonder what other middle-belt and southern states governments and assemblies are still waiting for to enact grazing laws. What nonsense!

this degenerate never disappoints. In your idiotic mind there's no persecution against Igbos. Lets forget about this thread. Ibeto cement case isn't persecution. 5% statement sn't persecution. Innoson isn't persecution. Python dance isn't persecution etc etc

I shouldn't really bother to quote you because one does not expect any rational comment from a buhari supporter, but once a while your innate stupidity and acute idiocy must be pointed out
The only one here expressing stupidity in its purest form is the person who wails about Dangote setting up an automobile plant because he believes it is an act of persecution against Igbos. You reason in such manner yet you think someone else is stupid?... *spits*

In business, people always have rivals and each one lobbies the ogas ontop to curry favours. OBJ may have favoured Dangote over Ibeto, but only a pathetic tribal bigot, especially the ones suffering from severe inferiority and persecution complex disorder will always automatically ascribe everything to the tribe of the individual. Ibeto wasn't the only businessman across Nigeria who was disfavoured to favour Dangote and neither were the rivals of Dangote all Igbos.

And then what exactly is the persecution against Innoson?... A businessman has a problem with his bank that has spanned several administrations, now he refused to honour court orders. But tomorrow if the matter hits the fan, worthless buffoons again would ascribe it to tribe as if to say he is the only one that has every had such an issue with a bank.

May God deliver some people from this compulsive clannish foolishness before it totally eats up what'sleft of their esteem.

PAN is a company located in Kaduna and partly owned by the Kaduna state government. PAN has been dead for a while and now the Kaduna state governor has signed an agreement with Dangote to resuscitate PAN.

But of course, for a person suffering from the disorder mentioned above, their expectation is for Kaduna state government to abandon PAN whilst the come to Anambra to support IVM. If the Kasuna state government doesnt do this, then it's because they hate and want to kill Igbo business. Smh!
