I think the time has come for the government to stop announcing these figures whether real or fake. It appears that whenever the figures are announced, it spurs the destroyers to action. The last time they announced Kaduna refinery had resumed production with over 5million litres per day, 2 days later, the pipeline taking crude to the refinery was bombed. On another occasion they announced that power generation nationwide had increased a bit because of the repaired escravos gas line, exactly 2 days later, they re-bombed the escravos line. Kachikwu should do well by ceasing to make these announcements. |

If you can remember, NDA earlier vowed that they will strike in Lagos and Abuja but a group in Southwest protested, and vowed to retaliate by going after ijaws in Lagos. You can't write off the fact that Mr president cancelled the trip to Lagos for security reason. NDA is not joking whenever they warned of the might thing that they will do that will make the whole world shakes". What about the cancelled Senegal and Calabar trip?... he was scared of Ebola or 404 right? |

Common sense shouldnt be too difficult to acquire, especially when is naturally given at birth. This isnt a political argument, if only you had a bit of common sense, then you would know that it is silly to compare security around a president to the security guarding a mere pipeline. |

decub: The phrase "unguarded isolated" is actually not true because the RMP 23 and 24 are some of Chevron's highest producing oil Wells and attract a lot of security presence. The ones we might term as minor is that of Aiteo and Shell which by all standards, not minor as it has taken its toll on the country's economy. kernel501: I hate when elders lie, he doesn't value his life, right? Look people like you said, NDA can't do a thing, today you are feeling the hit. Even secondary school students can blow up pipelines in the forest, or some isolated oil installations in the wilderness. But I don't think it takes more than common sense to know that the security guarding a 400km pipeline is not comparable to the security around a governor, let alone the president. |

decub: No offence but you need to update. Well, we live in a country where intelligence gathering is a mirage. The threat was much genuine than you think and he did the most honourable thing to do. Those guys have sponsors in high places and even though the president might not have been killed, it wouldn't have been worth hearing that a threat was issued and carried out cos they would have disrupted the event and lives would have been lost. Well, suicide bombing is by far, an impossible way to kill a high profile individual cos u can't get close to him and there are snipers that can target from over 2km even on motion. Like I said, blowing up an unguarded isoloated pipeline in the forest is not the same things as penetrating a presidential brigade of guard and attacking a president, not especially when there is already a known threat which would make the guards very vigilant. I dont even believe the NDA made that threat, most of their communications are via twitter, but the so called threat was by a faceless caller on radio biafra claiming to be NDA. |

I actually staked money that he will go to Ogoni and wherever he likes in Nigeria but guess what, I lost. After reviewing my bet, I found out that these Avengers were likely going to make an attempt on his life. That's a risk the old goat was not willing to take. There would have been chaos yesterday in Ogoni because the Army and DSS won't have any idea what hit them. Do you have an idea of the kind of security that moves with a governor, let alone a president?... Then do you have an idea the kind of security that would move with a president when there is actually a live security threat?... how can anyone compare the security covering a pipeline to the security of a president?... is it only kids we even have on this forum? |

This has nothing to do with boast, I'm not in a competition with anybody and neither am I in a battle, this is just application of the most basic common sense. It is meaningless to compare the security surrounding a 400km pipeline to the security surrounding a president. I would expect only a child not to undertsand this. |

Built2last: Churchill Umoren writes
From what i gathered from the state department here in the US, the Niger Delta Avengers was serious about killing Buhari. It is instructive to note that the NDA had always done what they promised. No bluffs. they give the military notice of blowing oil installations, and it has been serial. Learnt the US govt with d benefit of Intel, advised the Presidency to cancel, because even if Buhari escaped, there would have been collateral damage. Also, The Avengers have cells scattered around Ogoniland run by foot soldiers. Said a source " To attack during the visit was very imminent, they operate as guerillas, so his DSS, and soldiers would have been blind sided. To harm the Nigerian President in such environment would have been easy because the soldiers have no clue, not well equipped for such, and his secret service are not trained in counter terrorism, like the FBI and US Secret Service who protect the US President. the Nigeria President is viewed as "enemy of state" in the Delta, to them he is persona non grata" No offence but this is absolute trash. If Buhari had gone to Ogoni, there is absolutely nothing anyone could have done about it. It is very silly for anyone to compare the security of inanimate pipelines which run hundreds of kilometers to the security of one man. Any kid can just pick up an isolated unsecure portion of a very long pipeline, set a dynamite and blow it up, but it is obviously not the case when it is a president; besides the scavengers are unlike bokoharam terrorists who are willing to die in suicide missions. I strongly believe the sahara reporters' story which says the president is sick. All his visits in the last 2 weeks have been cancelled from Lagos to Calabar to Ogoni to Senegal. |

dablazor: The real masses are out there even before these attacks in said agony and darkness.
The Goverment isn't listening, Nigeria can't continue this way, and if grounding the economy is a way to be heard, then fine.
The real question here is; why won't they restructure the country? Why do they have to wait until there are ethic unrests and secessionist uprisings? Why won't they heed the advises of various political pundits??
The militants are not your enemy, the federal government is. For sentimental reasons, you may not be capable of appreciating how the forex scarcity issue is totally the reason behind the bleeped up nature of Nigeria's economy today (i.e. fuel scarcity, high fuel cost, super-high food cost, massive job losses etc). Most people would just lazily attribute it to Buhari, after all the problems started being felt when Buhari took over so it just has to be Buhari's doing; just like a market woman the other day was asked why tomatoes were expensive and she retorted "Buhari." Now if only you understand the deep rooted damage done on the economy by just a mere oil price drop , then you would understand the potential effects of further strangling the economy by cutting oil production by half. In summary, if you think there is agony and darkness presently, then just brace up for what would happen in the next quarter when the fruits of this present pipeline bombings would mature. |

dablazor: The goverment should restructure Nigeria and see if nothing changes, bitter truth is that nothing is working with this current set up and ethnic unrest wouldn't take the backseat anytime soon with this lope sided status quo.
When Nigeria runs a regional autonomous goverment, we experience progresses, but now? Its total stagnation. Blowing up the meagre resources the nation has and throwing 170 million people into darkness and agony, is that really the best approach to tackle the regionalism problem? |

drizzymadbet: Nigeria is in trouble, no matter what we think this is a very delicate issue. NDA are no "terrorist" oganization, and at that would always garner sympathy from the locals.
The goverment is playing with fire. let em negotiate with these miscreants and see if they can get money to fund their bogus projects The miscreants simply want Buhari to resign, they have said it unequivocally that they aren't ready for any negotiations. So what would you have the govt do?... The only good part of this development is that even the mumus supporting this sabotage would also suffer the consequences. By the 3rd quarter of the year, the only food Nigerians all over would be eating would be to curse buhari, and buhari still has another 3 years to go. |

tbaba1234: Note: Due to complaints from previous lists. I decided to compile a much more complete list. This list covers almost all capital projects in the South West with every state covered (in power, works and housing plus railways). The danger of listing ALL for the SW and not doing so for previous listed zones is that an individual who read the previous lists of yesterday would hatch an opinion that the development spread is largely imbalanced. |

Jirate: Generate, Transmit and Distribute Electricity 24/7 Basis that is Change, why is APC now Missing In Action?. Keep bombing gas pipelines and then come and ask why we cannot have power. Probably by 2019, after the criminals you probably glorify have forced darkness and agony upon Nigerians for 4 years, you will happily say, "apc wasnt able to give Nigerians light," and then the vicious cycle continues forever. At the end one thing which is clear is that it is no longer a mystery why Nigeria cannot have power. At a meagre 5000mw, almost all Nigerians were celebrating relatively constant power (up to 16-18 hrs daily). But since then, its been one glaring case of gas pipeline bombings to another (probably for political reasons). |
