franchasng: Ukraine President have said it openly that they aren't joining NATO, that Ukraine will remain neutral but that Russia should assure them security.
Russian demands are:
Ukraine should not join NATO which has been off the table as Ukraine President have dropped that idea.
Russia want Ukraine to change their constitution and add that Cremea Russia forcefully took from Ukraine in 2014 belongs to Russia.
Russia also want Ukraine to also recognize Ukraine breakaway regions of Doneskt and Luhanskt as independent nations in their new constitution.
Russia also want Ukraine to destroy or surrender all their military defense and munitions and remain demilitarized even as a sovereign nation.
If these demands are just to you, my prayer for you today is that may nature, God and man grant you same justice and may everybody support such justice when it comes to you. If they arent ready to negotiate properly, they should keep taking bombs then. |

IT IS BECOMING DANGEROUS TO LIVE HERE, ALL SENSES ARE NOW LOST AND NO LONGER STRAIGHT. I MIGHT BE HEADED FOR THE MOON. Protesting against their governments sending weapons to Ukraine doesnt mean they support the invasion. On the contrary, it means they're opposed to the perpetuation of the needless war. EU countries pumping weapons to Ukraine only means one thing; it will prolong the war . A prolonged war entails more destruction of lives and properties and a worsening of the already terrible refugee crises. |

It better than 5-8hrs traffic congestion commuters face most especially during festivities The bridge isnt PPP. Was originally planned to be PPP and tolled by GEJ but PMB cancelled the PPP arrangement and FG funded the bridge 100%. I guess the reason they still chose to sustain the tolling idea (despite it not being PPP anymore) was cos the SE already seemed to have accepted the tolling idea from the start (just a case of the govt taking advantage of the silence of the SE). |

Bonessaw: Toll Gate seems to be the new idea of the present government. I suppose Fashola who was a champion of Toll Gate in Lagos brought up the idea as Minister of Works.
Well before calling the toll evil, we need to look at the modalities before complaining. And also see if it will be implemented in other zones with similar Chinese loans. The idea of tolling that bridge didnt start from this administration. The original idea when GEJ initiated the project was for the bridge to be built on a PPP arrangement and tolled. Fast forward to Buhari, the PPP arrangement was shelved and the FG opted to fund it fully. What then is not clear is why the FG still has to toll the bridge despite it no longer being a PPP. I guess the current administration just took advantage of the fact that the SE appeared to accept (and even applauded) the tolling idea under GEJ. Let's watch and see how things unfold, i.e. whether the Lagos-Ibadan and Kaduna-Zaria-Kano roads will be tolled too (as stated by Fashola) when completed. If they arent tolled, then anyone who plants the dynamite in the 2NB toll stations deserve very chilled Hero beer. |

The level of ignorance on this forum is just saddening. Lots of people who can't think right! Can we please just shove this meaningless logic in the bin already? Whilst anyone can and will use the 2NB, the bridge will undisputably be most beneficial to Igbos. When completed, over 95% of its users will be Igbos, so what's this argument really about? |

Tip101: Cutting it off isn’t the problem for Putin you know. But then, he knows how much that’s going to cost him also and he needs the money. I’m sure Europe’s already looking into other sources of energy. I read an article where most of them said they’d fast track their green energy project to reduce the dependence on Russian oil and gas.
As much as I’d have loved it if they come to us for their supplies, I just don’t really see it being possible and the reason is this…. Most of these countries are moving into renewable energies and what just happened is going to be an eye opener for them.
What I think they’d do is, considering the amount it’s going to cost (building another pipeline), they’d rather invest it on renewable energy and reduce dependence on Russia’s oil to a bare minimum, while also making up for it from another European country instead of coming to Africa. Trust me, it would take longer than a decade for these countries to develop sufficient renewable energy capacity to match their daily energy demands. Oil and gas would still be around for a while, forget the renewables hype. |

Just curious because I am really interested in gas revolution in Nigeria. Well, I guess it could take well over 3 years, from the conceptual design to actual construction and commission. If maybe Russia is gracious enough to cut that gas supply and render the EU desperate, maybe they can provide funds and sufficient incentives to hasten the actualisation of the Trans-Saharan GP |

But then, you’d see that, they all are trying to get alternatives. One thing is sure, no one knew something like this would ever happen again, and it’s normal. Now they’ve all learnt their lessons and it’s a matter of time before their dependence on Russia’s oil and gas gets cut off.
Once again, thanks for the link. Take care and God bless. I think Europe isnt desperate enough to diversify their gas sources yet. Would be nice to see Russia cut off that supply for just 1 month, it could force the European union scrambling to Nigeria to sponsor the trans-saharan gas pipeline and possibly a new LNG plant (benefits for Nigeria) |

Jackanda1: Russia started this whole crisis by taking over Crimea(Ukrainian territory). Instead of finding peaceful ways to settle with ukraine, they gave arms to certain part of ukraine close to its border,(Donbas) leading to chaos and fighting inside ukraine. Imagine Cameroon giving arms to IPOB.
The leaders of ukraine getting frustrated and afraid of what might come next, decide to ally with America and join NATO because of bullying from dictator Putin. Russia claim this is a threat to it security and decided to invade and kill ukranians.
It's the oppression, lies, land grabbing adventure and bullying from Russia that caused almost every country around Russia to want to join NATO, But russian trolls want you to think it's America's fault I'm guessing the reason the US is obsessed with winning over and placing deadly weapons in countries around Russia is purely to 'protect innocent countries from Russian invasion' right? The yanks are just benevolent messiahs who want to see everyone happy; thats why they've been obsessed with capturing countries around Russia. |

ayindejimmy: Many countries are working at alternatives
https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/what-are-europes-options-case-russian-gas-disruption-2022-02-28/ Yeah but those alternatives can't be achieved overnight. Do you know how many years it will take to complete a gas pipeline from say Nigeria to Spain? Or alternatively, do you know how many years it will take to build like 10 new LNG plants in Nigeria to cater for Europe's needs? Even if the entire European union donates money to help Nigeria complete the planned trans-saharan gas pipeline, it cant be completed in under 3 years. Sure they'd eventually find alternatives one day, but that 'one day' isnt today, isnt tomorrow and isnt even in 5 or possibly 10 years. If Russia stops pumping gas today, it would cause a major disruption in economies across Europe; the effect on economies would be worse than the Covid effect. |

Tip101: I totally understand you my brother… But then, with the way things are going, Putin needs Europe more than they need him right now and you know why?
Putin needs the money to finance the war, and the only way to get that is through the gas to Europe because of the sanctions right now which has made it difficult dealing with Russia. As for Europe, they can source for the gas elsewhere, but how will Putin get to sell his or who’s going to be able to buy that much gas from him? I’m sure you know no single country can get that %… Putin is really handicapped right now. He needs Europe more than Europe needs him. You still don' get the point do you? You keep repeating that "Europe can get the gas from elsewhere"; from where exactly? from the sky? Wrong wrong wrong! Europe cannot get the gas elsewhere; if they could, they would have done that ages ago and suffocated Russia of all that dollars. Europe needs Russian gas as much as Russia needs Europe's money. Even in the peak of the sanctions, Europe isn't crazy enough to sanction Russian gas just as Russia isn't crazy enough to sanction Europe's gas money (the juju never reach that level). Europe cannot manufacture or conjure a new source of gas overnight and Europe desperately desperately needs that gas. We're currently in winter season with sub-zero temperatures in parts of Europe. If Russia stops pumping that gas today, the effect across Europe would be crippling; people would hit the streets in massive numbers and protests could even turn violent, thereby disrupting Europe's economy so badly. Countries are still struggling to recover from the sweeping Covid recession and you think they're crazy enough to add a gas shortage bombshell to their problems? No they aren't that crazy. |

Tip101: Brother, the buyer will always be “King” no matter how you look at it. Remember one of the reasons why crude oil price crashed? It was because supply was more than demand. Now that Russia has been cut off, the price keeps rising, that’s one thing that shows the buyer will always be king.
Russia isn’t the only country with gas in Europe, people only went for them because it’s cheaper and due to trade agreements by the EU.
And more over, Russia/Putin needs the cash, that’s how he’s sustaining this war. I will say it again, let Putin decide to cut Europe off…. Or has he not been cutting of the west’s? Placing sanctions…. Why can’t he cut off the gas supply to Europe or why hasn’t he Lol... Of course Russia isnt the only country supplying gas to Europe, but over 40% of Europe's gas supply comes from Russia. Dont get it twisted, if Europe really had alternatives, they would have dumped Russian gas ages ago. 40% is not beans; if you cut off 40% of Europe's gas supply, there would be critical gas shortage which can push gas prices through the roof; we talking up to 300-500% inflation in heating cost for homes. We're still in winter period and gas demand is currently high; should Russia cut off that supply and the scarcity inflation starts, streets will be filled with protesters. Even prior to the Ukraine invasion, there's been inflation in gas costs across Europe with heating cost in homes in the UK for instance, expected to rise by up to 60% from April this year. When this happens, there'd be a major public outcry. I wouldnt even want to imagine what would happen if that increase hits up to 300% because of regional politics - the protest would be massive. |
