HealthRe: Male Infertility!!! Share Your Experience/success Story. by obi123: 11:19pm On Nov 23, 2013
Six easy ways to boost male fertility levels

Male fertility levels have declined by 50 per cent over the past 50 years.

Read the final part of our guide to male infertility below and find out tips for boosting fertility levels.

Wear boxer shorts

Keeping the testicles cool is vital to maintaining healthy sperm production. But wearing tight jeans or underpants keeps the testicles too close to the body, raising their temperature which slows down the rate of sperm production.

A study by the University of Milan found that men wearing tight briefs were nearly twice as likely to be infertile as men who wore looser styles of underpants.

Fertility experts say switching to boxer shorts and wearing looser clothing will help keep the testicles cool, boosting sperm production.

If you work in a job involving high temperatures, such as welding, Diane Arnold, spokeswoman for the National Fertility Association, recommends spraying the testicles once a day with cool water if possible and taking tepid, not hot baths at night.

Eat more zinc

Zinc is involved in sperm production and also plays a role in 'activating' the sperm. Nutritionists believe that taking just 15mg a day - the daily recommended amount - can help repair the damage caused to sperm by harmful chemicals absorbed from the environment.

Rich sources of zinc in the diet include seafood, particularly oysters (this is how they gained their reputation as an aphrodisiac) red meat, whole grains and pulses. You can also find it in smaller amounts in some dairy products, such as cheese.

If you want to take a zinc supplement, alternative health experts advise a supplement of no more than 30mg a day and this should be taken in conjunction with a copper supplement, usually 1.5mg.

This is because consuming more than half a gram of zinc every day can interfere with the way the body metabolises copper. Some zinc tablets are combined with copper to make them easier to take.

Stop smoking and drinking

Numerous studies have found that smoking damages the sperm membrane, making it 'lazy' and affecting its ability to reach an egg. Smoking can also alter sperm DNA which can cause birth defects in babies.

Male impotence is also linked to smoking. A recent review of various studies on impotence published since 1980 found that 40 per cent{2} of impotent men were smokers compared to 28 per cent of men in the general population.

This is because smoking can cause the blood vessels to narrow, making it difficult for blood to be delivered to genitals, triggering impotence.

Alcohol can also affect sperm production. Drinking more than eight units of alcohol in 48 hours - enough to cause a hangover - can lower testosterone levels by up to 20 per cent even 12 hours after you stopped drinking.

Beer and lager may be a particular problem because they contain plant oestrogens. These can mimic female hormones and can trigger infertility in men.

________________________________________________

Drink bottled water

Drinking one-and-a-half to two litres of fluid every day is vital to maintaining a healthy body, but it is important to watch exactly what you are drinking.

In some studies, samples of tap water were found to contain traces of the female hormone oestrogen. This could be from oestrogens found in the environment, but also from recycled water.

As more women are now using the Pill, traces of the hormones used in the contraceptive can be recycled back into the water system, raising oestrogen levels in tap water. Drinking bottled water limits your risk of exposure to more female hormones

Caffeine, found in coffee and many cola drinks, can also slow down sperm production and can contribute to high stress levels.

Think about becoming a father

Researchers in Portugal have discovered that men who were trying to become a father could increase their chances of success just by thinking about it.

They found that men who wanted to become fathers were better at coordinating sex with their partners during peak testosterone levels than men who did not want to conceive.

High testosterone levels help boost sperm production and improves the health of the sperm, increasing the chances of conceiving.

_____________________________________________

A fertility diet should be as fresh as possible and organic wherever possible. Key elements are; good quality protein sources (favor vegetable sources of protein) and good fats.

What should you eat?

Organic meat in small quantities, game, small deep sea fish like sardines and red snapper, organic legumes home cooked (not canned).

Whole grains, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruit in season, organic where possible.

Increase your consumption of good fats and avoid dangerous fats. Good fats include monounsaturated fats in olive oil, polyunsaturated fats in oily fish and nuts and midchain fatty acids found in coconut oil.

For cooking use clarified butter (ghee) or coconut butter (without flavor) as they do not become unstable when heated.

For non-heated oil requirements (salads etc) use cold pressed olive oil, flaxseed oil and nut oils.

@ DEPRESSIONKILLS

i just want to say very well done for starting such a thread, can you see what you have done? you have given people a chance to express themselves , to express things that might have been hidden , that they might be ashamed of and by sharing their problems , someone might have had a eureka moment just reading other people's posts, there is a solution to every problem big or small.
Who would have known that so many people here who post all sorts on Nairaland daily suffer from depression

YOU SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF YOURSELF, WHEN YOU ARE FEELING DOWN , JUST REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE INDEED A STRONG PERSON AND CAN OVERCOME WHATEVER IT IS THAT IS TRYING TO OVERCOME YOU.

Enjoy the little things in life!!!!! E- HUG smiley

HealthRe: A Thread For Those Suffering From Depression Or Anxiety Disorders by obi123:
Hun,
have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror? try it , get a mirror and look at yourself long and hard ,when you do what/who do you see looking back at you ?

i'm hoping that you will find that the person staring back at you is no looser, the person staring back at you will be someone who is selfless, a strong person who has had the strength to recognize that there is a problem and has had the sense, the mind to invite other people who might be in the same situation , who is giving others in a similar situation a platform to air their feelings of vulnerability their emotions.

Do you know that by starting this thread you might have saved a life or two? do you know that by starting this thread , some people will finally start realizing that they are not alone.

Learn to self appreciate , this is very crucial , there must be something that you appreciate in yourself , recognize people around you who have a a negative aura ,avoid them, they will never encourage you to see the brighter side of things.

You might not think anything of yourself , all you can see are negatives because we humans are our own best critics , we can single handedly run ourselves down, we humans literally hand people what they use to run us down unknowingly because of the way we carry ourselves but i tell you there is someone out there who will give everything and anything to be you FOR A DAY, believe that .

i have learnt to appreciate ME, i might not have millions, not the best job or whatever but I'll be damned if i feel nothing but pride in the little I've been able to achieve.

what makes you happy?? think about it, what makes you happy? list them, write it on a piece of paper, it could be people , things, just anything , what makes you happy ? there must be something that can put a smile on your face.

Try and enjoy the simple things being alive offers you

stoned: if I find out u have aids and we are not close I will avoid u, if we are close I will just be more careful around u. but I am not going to knowingly make friends with a hiv + person, if u happen to be family I will have no choice but to love and support you other than that I want nothing to do with aids victims. I know its wrong and I genuinely want to help them but the way the media presented aids to us making it synonymous with death still scares me.
what you need is education, the more you know about things the more comfortable you become with them, read up about it, just an hr of your time on google will do wonders

RomanceRe: Marriage Proposal Without A Ring by obi123: 4:58pm On Nov 18, 2013
there is no status quo to anything, i think what is important is that you do what is within your abilities and that you fulfill absolutely everything that you are promising by proposing to another man's pikin .
i think i'd rather get a sincere proposal without a ring than a pink diamond ring with a 4 string quartet accompanying the most elaborate proposal ever known to man.
if there is a ring fine, if there is no ring fine during the proposal .Although a wedding ring is a must because it is part of the wedding ceremony and it is a sign of love and an indication to all that both parties are married.
"take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit"

why not get a chair in an existing salon ?
i'm sure there will be a few female salons who can carve out a small part of their shop for a barbing chair and a mirror ,so that way all you need is your skill and tools and of course a few hair care products .
Those women will have sons , brothers, husbands and if you can cut female hair , better for you sef

life is too damn short to always have an issue with everything, whether its a publicity stunt or not , it was a nice gesture from one living soul to another ,one human to another , in a world where no one hardly acknowledges each other anymore ,, in a me me me world, in a world where only God knows when last the poor man was embraced like a human being and not treated as freak to be avoided at all cost .
IT IS SIMPLY A NICE GESTURE, Christ remains the head of the catholic church , the pope is only a disciple. Why some people stupidly expect him to act as God baffles me. even the pope will be judged on the last day

Just last week Daily mail UK ran a story about a Nigerien prince who was a con artist but it was written as Nigerian Prince , clearly the man wasn't Nigerian because he looked like someone from Niger , his name was clearly not Nigerian,he dressed like an Arab person too, i wrote a strong email to the daily mail explaining the difference , whether they changed it i dont care i just needed to do this for me , we have enough negative perception drowning us as Nigerians ,we dont need some lunatic adding salt to injury.

ledafaze: She dey MAD. Abeg make she no start that trend in Nigeria o. Molestation will forever occur in as much as this world is concerned but the law is there to handle it. Even in USA, they abduct, molest and kill....

I really dont see it in her killing herself... Why cant she just live her life as anewhuh Fine the stigma will forever be there but with proper counselling and advice, I am sure she will scale through... Her parents should have started with an immediate relocation soshe will have fresh air in the midst of her immediate family...

Kai! another resource gone...

May her soul rest in peace. And by the way, OP please remove the name of the substance she took abeg.... Please I beg you... This will avoid others into thinking they can get it so cheap!
i think that until you are molested then you can speak , the harm is more psychological , mental than physical , and until we are in her shoes we really have no right to judge the girl, especially in this part of the world where justice can never prevail ,in fact for a ra-pe victim no punishment will ever be equal to the mental and psychological torture a victim goes through in their life.

WHAT IS MORE WORRYING IS THAT YOU HAD THAT MANY LIKES TO SUCH A COMMENT
