During the resurrection of the righteous and the wicked, the wicked are then thrown both body and soul into hell, which is the second death where they face eternal punishment. The righteous face the opposite which is eternal life. The word eternal which you find in ETERNAL PUNISHMENT shows that they won't die. If they were just gong to die off, then there would not be anything eternal about the punishment.
