I have no religious interest in this (am atheist), only an academic one as I work in the field of history. This fragment of the Quran does not refute the role of Muhammad in the Quran. The scholars are only saying that the material on which the Quranic verses were written may be older than Muhammad. Even then, parchment being quite rare and expensive in those days, it could have been stored for a long time or re-used.

Unfortunately this article is being circulated among Christians who don't understand what this means. It's kind of like Muslims who keep circulating that tired old article about the Gospel of Barnabas which has been debunked repeatedly.

Meaning the forces in nature as defined by the rules of physics. I know where you are going with this. My answer is that scientists have not yet figured out exactly if or how the universe came into being or if there are infinite universes, however none of this is proof of a creator who is watching over us and sending 'prophets'. The universe might have an eternal existence; it might not. Many Hindus believe that the universe is simply an enormous unregulated cycle with no beginning and no end.

Maybe one day the scientists will answer this question about the universe.

There are absolutely loads of errors and contradictions in the Quran and Hadiths. I've read Muslims apologists' attempts to clarify but in the end it's all the same things that Christians use to defend their religion.

It would be difficult to persuade me that this all-powerful creator who wants us to adore him chooses to hide and instead whisper into the ears of long-dead prophets as proof of his existence. The Quran, also, is poorly organized and contains almost no useful information.

No religion is perfect; they are all man-made. That is crystal clear.
I believe that everything that exists occurred because of natural forces (it is not exactly the same thing as chance)
No god exists that I am aware of, however it is possible that there are other beings that we haven't identified.
Metaphysics is interesting but ultimately subjective.

I don't believe that Saudis are going to treat refugees like guests. This is not their history.

I really wouldn't worry about it. I have studied Islam, read the Quran along with hundreds of the hadiths and large parts of the tafsir and sirah. There is much to criticise in this religion, and a little internet research goes a long way. I've also studied other religions extensively. None of it has affected my position as an atheist in the slightest. If she is truly convinced of her Christianity then studying Islam isn't going to change anything.

Jesus is already ~1950 years late on his return; he clearly does not honor his own word. I say we just ignore him until he shows some respect for others.

I have been to this place (Touba, Senegal) and this picture of the African Kaaba is not from Touba. But yes the Mourides have an interesting version of Islam, better than most other versions because their founder, Bamba, was a pacifist.

Yes people leave their religion to become atheist. However,statistics show that this is more peculiar to the christian folks than Muslim and quite a lot of the Christians also revert to Islam especially in the West on the basis of their convictions. In Africa, the Muslims that convert to christianity do so mainly because of miracles and media sterotypes. The western world has gone beyond miracles, they wanted peace of mind and that they are finding in Islam. I just watched a youtube video where the preacher Yusuf Este, a former christian missionary said he delivered a lecture in German and 1,240 people in the gathering reverted to Islam.

There are videos and cases of Muslims who left Islam to become atheist or agnostic on youtube. Personally, I have my peace of mind and religion has played no role in it. Yes, I've read the Quran and many of the hadiths, and the claims made by Islam aren't any more or less reasonable than those of Christianity--people convert to Islam as well on the basis of so-called 'miracles of the Quran' just like they convert to Christianity based on so-called miracles. I do not believe in prophets or sons of god or any other person who claims to have a link with a god.

Islam is the fastest growing religion because the people making it grow, are the one's with roots in the religion already, like christians convert to Islam everyday, iffahear.

And every day Christians and Muslims leave their religions and become agnostic or atheist. Leaving religion completely has been by far the biggest growing demographic in Europe.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if government officials could do whatever they want in the name of religion. I think that we would quickly be reminded of why it would be a bad idea.

I'm not surprised to see atheists in Mecca. A lot of them have to accompany their parents. I have seen several photos taken by atheists in Mecca. The top photo is legitimate, the second is not. I'm starting to see a lot of Arab and Pakistani atheists on the internet.

First off, "god" has not given any book. There is zero evidence that the universe was created.

Second, Islam does not teach free will. It teaches that all your good and evil deeds that you commit were recorded before you were born, and that your destiny of heaven and hell has already been determined and that you cannot change that.
