Whatever you do, make sure it includes vaguely written predictions that can be interpreted in many different ways so that people can say the book is miraculous. Some of the verses should contradict each other so that the book predicts all possible situations.

Also include some threats of eternal torture by some merciful, loving superior being for people who don't follow the book.

Make the book very easy for powerful people to justify luxurious living at the expense of the powerless.

Include some mindless rituals for forgiveness so that evil people can have an easy way out of feeling guilty. Maybe the ritual should be highly active so that people can get some exercise while they're getting forgiveness from this supreme being.

Add some long, meaningless poems so that people can claim that they are secret messages from a supreme being.

Make the book so long, boring, and poorly written that 90% of the population will never bother to read it.

It's a start.

I was forced to be protestant. As soon as I was old enough I stopped going.

I don't believe in any god (there are many gods that people believe in, not just one). I am angry at the abuses of religions, but I am certainly not angry at something that does not exist.

This site, along with a few others, like the "We F*cking Love Atheism" page on Facebook, pushed me into atheism from agnosticism several years ago.

Be careful about stereotyping. I know Senegal extremely well and there are a lot of Senegalese men who don't get married until after 30 years old. It is true that the Peul/Fula get married a bit earlier than the Wolof people but for men there is really no pressure to get married until they are in their early 30s.

I'm atheist but I have no problem voting for a theist whose ideas and philosophy closely match my own. No candidate, even an atheist, is going to be 100% of what I want. And there's no guarantee that he or she won't be corrupt. Being able to vote for an atheist would be nice but I wouldn't like to box myself into voting for that candidate.

It's true that life is very much an accident, but I find my own meaning in life, and I like that.

Actually, it is not we atheists who have a philosophy of death; we have every reason to live and no reason to die since it is the end of our existence. It is you who believe in a paradise after death (Christians, Muslims, etc) that have a reason to die. You are the ones who look forward to death.

Ok then which god do I call on when in danger? There are so many to choose from. Certainly not Yahweh, who cannot be trusted because he drowned the entire world once. Maybe Dionysius, the god of wine?

It's because religion is disappearing in the UK. It's a move of desperation. Religion was useful a few centuries ago for controlling people; we are now better off without it.

So let me try to understand with an example:

A man rap.es and kills a pros.titute. She did not have time to repent and she died a sinner. She goes to hell. The man is never caught by police and he lives the rest of his live normally. As death approaches, he begs for forgiveness from God in the name of Jesus. He then is pardoned and goes to heaven. Is that how it works? He is neither punished on this earth or in the afterlife, while the woman he rap.ed and murdered is in hell. Is this god's justice?
