Stan Collymore has claimed that Liverpool ’s decision not to sign Timo Werner is “perfect” for them. Liverpool had been frequently linked with the RB Leipzig striker, only for Chelsea to steal a march on the Reds and become the player’s likely destination. It is thought the Stamford Bridge outfit are ready to activate the £54m release clause set in Werner’s contract at Leipzig. When the news surfaced of Liverpool withdrawing their interest in the striker, many Reds fans expressed their frustrations. But former striker Collymore says Reds fans have nothing to complain about, believing that Werner would have been a flop had he moved to Anfield. “The deal to take Timo Werner to Chelsea is a perfect arrangement for all concerned,” wrote Collymore, in his column for The Mirror. “Perfect for the player, perfect for the Blues, perfect for RB Leipzig, who are trousering £53million, and perfect for Liverpool as well. “He’s a good, solid striker with promise — an all-rounder who holds the ball up well, is mobile, gets into the box and scores goals. “But the Liverpool fans sobbing about missing out on him can spare me the tears because he’s not Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo and the way some have reacted, you’d be forgiven for thinking he was some sort of reincarnation of both. “This isn’t to knock Werner or Chelsea because they’re a cracking fit for each other at this point in time, and the Stamford Bridge faithful should be delighted they have got him. “He will enhance their young team, making them solid top-four contenders and a side that will go deep in domestic and European cup competitions. “Manager Frank Lampard is building a fine young side and if he gets Ben Chilwell from Leicester as well then they will have had a very good summer. “But Liverpool are the European champions, world champions and soon-to-be Premier League champions, and there would be massive pressure on him as the summer’s marquee signing at Anfield on the back of all that. “Add in the fact that Liverpool already have arguably the best-balanced front three in the world and I’m struggling to see where Werner would have fitted in. “I wouldn’t have seen him displacing any of them and, given everything that team has done together, I could even have seen him flopping. “Why? Because walking into that dressing room would have been massively intimidating for a 24-year-old.” Collymore also believes Jurgen Klopp well well within his rights to decide against signing Werner in the current financial climate. The suspension caused by the coronavirus pandemic has caused financial issues for many clubs up and down the country, and Collymore reckons the Reds are right not to sign Werner. The ex-Liverpool player added: “As for the notion that Jurgen Klopp couldn’t justify Werner’s fee, I’m sure there is an element of the Kop boss not wanting to appear gaudy or louche in the current climate. “He’s not a Billy Bull*****er after all. “Had he firmly believed Werner would be the next Sergio Aguero or Fernando Torres, though, I’m pretty sure he’d have been whipping out the old chequebook in a heartbeat.” |

Olarewaju89:U dey win which league title for which country? ![]() E b like d food u dey chop dey make u high ![]() |
Olarewaju89:Ehhhh wrong analogy bro....barca were not the defending champions of the UCL,it was Real Madrid! The Ajax team that dismantled Real Madrid lost to the eventual runners up team Spurs! So defeating the defending champions is not a recipe to win the UCL! ![]() Sorry bro...the truth hurts ![]() Like I said, try win ohh because there is no hope for Atletico to make top 5 sef ![]() I no wan hear say the only 'trophy' una win this season na to beat Liverpool for anfield ohh.... ![]() |
Olarewaju89:I was referring to the EPL bro since you seem to know more about who VAR favours ![]() Well I wish your club wins the UCL (which is unlikely)....if they don't,they will end up going trophless and the only 'cup' they may have 'won' this season for their unambitious fans would be defeating the defending champions... oops sorry I heard there is no such cup in uefa's kitty ![]() |

Olarewaju89:Lovely Jersey minus the superimposed 'VAR' which every club in the EPL has at one point in time benefited from! Tell me your club and i can vouch that VAR has favored your club more than it has favored liverpool! ![]() |
pafo: ![]() You haven't been reading the news lately right? Liverpool personally sent out a message to Evra apologizing for what they did that year! Evra said so in an EPL show and said he has already accepted the apology and everyone has moved on! Stop bringing back old wounds due to your beef with liverpool! |

madridsta007:He died due to his apparent ignorance! Most of the deaths we encounter here in africa are just avoidable but most people here throw caution to the wind and decide to play God! The amazing part is that he has always been doing this and has been getting away with it until that fateful day he 'kicked the bucket'! Just like the bible says...."My people perish for lack of knowledge" |
TheRealProphet:You are absolutely right! |
espn:Hmmmm....okay |
engrchykae:why didnt you mention chelsea in the champions league where barca lost at nou camp? Lets stop making these baseless arguments! If barca had won liverpool last season and qualified for the finals, you would have changed the narrative! Was it not the same messi that scored a goal and a lovely freekick at nou camp which gave barca an advantage in the first leg? Go and also watch the second leg at anfield, messi was tactically crowded by the combination of Matip, henderson, fabinho and milner! Messi is still a great player just like the year range that you mentioned...he even has more goals now than he had during the range that you mentioned! |
espn:But even at his peak, there were times when messi could not wreck havoc like you are implying...what happened when chelsea came to nou camp and beat barca....was messi still hot or lukewarm or average? Yes the world of footy today is in short supply of mercurial players like the messi or ronaldo however, is that the fault of VVD? Liverpool defence was less than average but as soon as VVD stepped in,he made a relatively average Matip to look like one of the best defenders in the premier league! Its not just liverpool that have benefited from this colossal figure...Netherlands aka the orange boys had very good strikers but a porous defence...VVD stepped in and solidified the defence! Aguero, regarded as the best foreign player in English prem league due to his prolific exploits in mancity this season, has been scoring goals for fun...once he met liverpool and VVD this season, his scoring boots went blunt! Lets give honour to whom its due! Its not his fault that the strikers in the premier league are afraid of him! |
espn:When messi was hot? In oda words, the goals scored by messi last season were all penalties abi? Arguably the best player in the world is now cold, according to you, and yet that same player scored twice against liverpool at nou camp! Na wa for una ohh ![]() |
csamii:Exactly! Truth is they just hate the fact that VVD is at liverpool! If he was at barca or madrid or chelsea,or even manutd, they would have called him the best! |
RTSC:I totally disagree with you! There were superb strikers and defenders before the likes of maldini and nestas or henry and drogbas or even milito! Are you saying that the likes of aguero or lewandoski are mediocre? Its not his fault that other strikers are not stepping up or that there arent many defenders like him presently! If liverpool did not attain this enviable position they are today with VVD,would you be saying this? If this same player was in bayern or madrid, your likes would have hailed him as the best thing since boiled eggs! You guys should tone down on your emotions towards VVD! Hype? No one is hyping him...his stats are simply superb! He doesnt even need hype...his performance is there for all to see! |
League never start but people cannot take their banter away from liverpool! ![]() "When nobody talks about you, then you are nobody" ![]() These trolls will never let liverpool drink water and keep cup....is it their fault that they are 25 points ahead of the second placed team that happens to be the defending champions mancity in a highly competitive english premier league? These same trolls here once nicknamed liverpool as the 'nearly' team....they even tagged liverpool with YNWA 'You Will Never Win Anything' ![]() Today liverpool have clinched three major trophies while hoping to clinch the elusive English premier league title and they have suddenly changed the narrative! Is it their fault that they have a group of professionals who who play for each other while heavily coach by one of the best managers in the world in jurgen klopp? As for the simplified and colossal defender VVD.....the reason why there are too many banters is because he is doing something right! Are the trolls saying that Aguero or Jesus are not good strikers? Are they also saying lewandoski is an average striker simply because VVd got the better of him last year? I am not here to hype or compare VVD with other defenders but he is currently the best in that position and has no rival for now...those who are saying VVD is overhyped will gladly and joyfully welcome him to their club! FACT ![]() |
Kenplay: ![]() No mind am...she will amplify the cheating once she is married! |
chycco:I have heard similar narratives like this....even a lady told a guy that if he doesn't fix the ring on her finger(marriage),she ain't going to be 'loyal' to him ![]() So what happens when you pay her bride price? It automatically and miraculously stops her from cheating? ![]() Chai....u never chichumchin |
Royalfurnitures:The highlighted statement is not entirely true! God has already blessed man/woman with the required tools and skills to train up a child! Point your kids in the right direction— when they’re old they won’t be lost. Pro. 22:6 (MSG) |
kazyhm:True! Their dissimilar approach confused the child! She simply chose the easier and less strenuous one! |
