PoliticsRe: Document Of Governors Backing Jang As NGF Chairman by PapaBrowne(m): 10:59am On May 25, 2013
A more intelligent way to look at this NGF elections is to ask questions about its merits and implications.

1)The first assumption is that the struggle for this NGF election is about 2015. If that's what it is about, then lets look at the implications. How does it affect the potential electability of the Incumbent. 16 Governors voted the president, 14 of which are most likely PDP members. Opposition Governors are 13 in number, at least 2 voted Jonathan(Mimiko & Obi). That means the number of PDP governors who voted for Amaechi 9 or 10. The implication then is that in a PDP presidential primaries, the incumbent has a Stronger base amongst the Governors than those opposing his tenure. Interesting, even in states where the Opposition is strong like Rivers, the President can garner almost half the votes since he has strong ministers who can sway delegates. So the first assumption leaves the incumbent with little to worry about. The results indicate that the PDP primaries is an almost definite ticket for the incumbent.

2) The second assumption is that the struggle for this NGF election is opposition VS ruling party. That is, All the governors that voted Amaechi are either APC or planning to switch over to APC. Now this is interesting and a more plausible scenario. In this assumption, it means that for the first time in the country, there are going to be more opposition Governors than PDP governors. It also means that the Incumbents home base is going to be heavily hit by opposition. Something like 3 south south Governors would be angling for the opposition. In fact it would mean that 9 southern governors would be angling against the incumbent. Would look like a terrible scenario with potential to negatively affect the victory of the incumbent in the general elections.

But no. Nigerians don't vote parties. They vote individuals in Presidential elections. While it might look good for the opposition, it is a terrible scenario because the geographical implication is poor for the opposition especially if the opposition is presenting a northern candidate. Rivers indigenes are never going to vote a Vice President Ameachi with Buhari or Tambuwal on top over a Jonathan neither would EDO indigenes vote a Vice President Oshiomole with Buhari atop the ticket. Same for Imo citizens and Okorocha and Lagosians and Fashola.
The other implication is that all the Northern PDP governors who would move to APC would only do so if they have a shot at contesting the Presidency. Anything short of that would have them remain in PDP.

My own personal take is that for the first time, the Governors are divided and almost evenly split. And I think its excellent. The reason being that the same governors who continue to stifle our development at the Local Government level and want to control the affairs at the federal level, have a much lesser capacity to do so. Its time for us to start championing the autonomy of Local Governments because that is the area of development that affects our everyday life.

I have never heard the story of Obaseki's betrayal. But I will like to know more about it. I'll wait for PhysicsQed to come up and enlighten us.

Benin is the most interesting place with regards to history in Nigeria and much of Africa. There are so many intriguing stories about the Benin Kingdom. Much of it can be turned to wonderful stories.

I have a beautiful dream for Benin. Creating a renaissance of the strength of the kingdom and making it a centre for Innovation(Like it once was), Arts and Culture, Education and Research,Design, Entrtepreneurship, Social Developement and a host of other areas where the City posseses comparative advantage!!

I love my roots. It makes me proud!!

Very excellent idea.
But you are making one big mistake. You are doing everything yourself.
You Idea is exceellent and you require some sort of funding to get it off the ground.
The graphic is very poor for 2013. You need to get a team who is good at design and programming and are willing to work for free in exchange for some sort of equity.

Put together an excellent team. If you don't know how to do that, go to Co Creation hub in Lagos and you would find people that would make your idea a reality.

What makes your idea excellent is the fact that there are so many idle and unemployed people who have either a talent or skill that can earn them money if shared and yet have no medium shout out their skill. Your site would help them a plenty.

For ideas on how to make it better, hit me a mail on uyi@strategy200.com or feel free to ask questions here.

I wondered yesterday about the blood factor and the fact that there was a total absence of panic on the scene.
I have never lived in UK, but I lived long enough in Europe and America to know the potential reaction in such a scenario. The other amazing thing is the time it took for the cops to get to the scene. Very unusual. Even in Nigeria, 20-30 mins is a long time. In a town like woolich, we should be talking maximum 5 mins before the cops get to the scene.
I'm not easily given to conspiracy theories and dont know what to think about it, but obviously something isnt right about the whole drama.

PoliticsRe: Understanding The PIB (Petroleum Industry Bill) by PapaBrowne(m): 3:20am On May 23, 2013
@Jarus
Wonderful Job. Most of us have been hearing PIB, PIB, PIB without understanding the content and the implication for both the industry and the general economy. Wonderful break down. AAA+++!!!

Questions regarding Host Communities Fund.
1)What happens to 10% of the profit emanating from offshore wells. Which community gets that.
2)How do you determine community ownership? Is it by the location of a well or by the coverage area of the well?

Is there a Negative feeling amongst Nigerians working with multinationals(like yourself and your colleagues) or is it just the Ogas at the top in The Hague and Houston that are apprehensive of the bill? Any fears that the bill could cause layoffs in the industry?

And one last question on the Host Community Fund, you said you also hold that too much goes to the region. Can you narrate why you feel so.
I feel like the host community fund is a much better tool than both 13% derivation and all the nonsense NDDC and Niger Delta Ministry that already exist.
I personally would recommend the scrapping of both agencies maybe to be replaced by an agency that would regulate the host communities fund. Communities come up with projects they would use their fund for in say 2014, monies are released in tranches based on the targets presented by the regulatory body. Again, this is Nigeria, corruption would kill any such process.
I would really like to understand why people are not cool with the Host communities fund.

PoliticsRe: President Mustn’t Die Before His Re-election, Asari-dokubo Warns by PapaBrowne(m):
Gbawe: I feel sorry for this clown. He does not understand the saying "power is transient". This was how Aondoakaa used to insult the sensitivities of Nigerians daily.

I just hope GEJ is the last accidental President Nigeria has because those unfit or undeserving of the Presidency naturally always come with garrulous and feudal elements who debase the Presidency to the general disgrace of Nigeria. I had to laugh when Aondoakaa stated that "Yar Adua can rule from anywhere" merely to validate the notion power must not be handed to GEJ. One can easily appreciate that GEJ has no capacity for learning from the past - even when he was directly involved.
And Mr Man, you don't realize how pathetic you point of view has become. What does Asari have to do with the President??
Is he appointed in any form by the Federal Government beside being a beneficiary of the Amnesty programme?

Why do you feel ok criticizing GEJ based on the speech of a militant who doesn't even pretend to be civil, but applaud when a former head of state like Buhari threatens Nigerians with blood if things don't go his way?

Your bias bites at your integrity and turns you into a sudden tribal warrior. Wish you could learn from how Tinubu is suddenly quite after the backlash from Nigerians over his incredible bias!

"World Class Road"

Really?

This is what a world class road looks like. This road is not even close to being called world class. I drive on this road everyday. Nigeria deserves better than those pictures you just uploaded. That road does not even look like a newly conctructed or re-paved road.
When I see comments like this, it confirms to me that progress is being made.
We have moved from shoWng horrible pictures of Benin Ore road to asking why our roads are not as good as those in the USA?
That is massive progress in my opinion when you consider that this has happened in just 2 years of a government that is under terrorist attack left, right and center.

Good. Its no more about potholes on our roads, but now about the quality of the roads that have been surfaced.

And one question to my ACN supporters, how come you arent complaining that the roads in Lagos don't look like the one in the picture. The only one they want to make look like that is taking over ten years and less than 30km has been completed despite the fact that the road has been tolled and is raking in billions already!

kavey10: You mister, are fighting a lost war. To be fair, rehabilitations have been good in areas I go BUT they are not 80% complete. Especially Ore-Benin(terrible patches, the driver has to manoeuver some crazy elevations to get through). Ibadan-Ore road is mostly narrow and scary. I get pissed off whan I see those useless FERMA signboards along the road, are they expecting praise for doing their job?

P.S: GEJ is getting so much stick now because PEOPLE ARE WAKING UP NOW THAN EVER!! We are not silent anymore. WE ARE AWARE!! Critics will forever remain, you can't stop them. GEJ's aim should be to let his ACTIONS do the CONVERSION FOR HIM INSTEAD OF USING PROPAGANDA! That ain't effective in this age man.
How come you are not silent about GEJ despite owning up that there is considerable improvement in just 2 years, but you are silent about Ekiti and Osun states whose governors have been around for longer than 3 years and still have very horrible state roads?
Why are you judging Jonathan with one yardstick and judging others with another?
PoliticsRe: Roads Are No Longer Death Traps - SURE-P by PapaBrowne(m): 11:53am On May 21, 2013
There is more improvement in Nigerian roads in the last 2 years than there was in the last 20 years. Fact!
The road improvements are everywhere.
The only people that would doubt and complain are those that:

1)don't travel out of their state of Origin
2)Live abroad and haven't been in Nigeria a while
3)Pessimists and negative minded people who expect Jonathan to change Nigeria to USA in 2 years but haven't as little as changed their own bedsheets in the last 10 years.

The roads have improved tremendously on three very important factors:
1) Federal roads are far better no matter where you are traveling. Too many roads are under construction at the same time and they are being excellently constructed. I have never seen as much construction TRUCKS in my life like I saw on the East West road.

2) The menace called Police checkpoints are gone from the roads. Its just a jolly ride all the way. It has been replaced by joint patrols by police and military vehicles.

3) You would think the absence of police checkpoints would increase the spate of armed robberies. Nooooo! Every commercial driver I've spoken with says that since the police left the highways, armed robbery virtually vanished from the highways. The jury is now out as to who were the armed robbers in that case. You guess is as good as mine.

It still beats my imagination why Amaechi boastfully led a protest by the Governors against this wonderful policy.

The Sovereign Wealth Fund would drastically impact on Nigeria. The Infrastructure part is what exites me the most.

I hope the fund is run by a pragmatic team who would select mainly bankable projects that are devoid of too much politicking.
PoliticsRe: Your Assessement Of The SOE: Sucess Or Failure by PapaBrowne(m): 7:35pm On May 19, 2013
koruji: This is really kind of silly - if it were that easy to crush BH it would be a crime for GEJ not to have done it sooner.
Serious military operations cannot be easily assessed for success or failure in a matter of days. The success or not would need to be assessed AFTER the operations have ended and we are BH free for several months to a year.

There are those whose only benefit from containing BH is a political badge - for those I say you might regret this bitterly when it blows up in your wicked faces.
At the same time there are those who want the State of Emergency to fail because of the political badge others would wear if it succeeds, forgetting that the success of the SOE is the success of all peace loving people whether or not some people get a political badge out of it.

Question:Who made the system?
Answer: The people.
I agree. The system is the problem. But the first way to solve the problem is realizing who who created the system. The people created the system, so the people should be the ones to fix the system.

Its just that we the people are complacent and therefore comfortable with the way the system we created currently sits.

But some men just like us with 2 hands, 2 legs, one head, two eyes, two ears(Our gallant troops) have taken the challenge to protect us from these hell-bound scoundrels called Boko Haram Islamists.

Our Troops(don't know if there are women too) are Fathers, Brothers, Boyfriends, Uncles, Best Friends, Cousins and a whole lot more. They have people who love them. They have ambitions and all want to grow old peacefully.
But they have opted to sacrifice themselves that we may have peace. Some will die in the process, others would return home without a scratch, but one thing is sure, they will win the war and we will know peace because they made a sacrifice.

This thread is dedicated to supporting our troops with nice words, poems, stories of gallantry, pictures and lots more.

Maybe, just maybe, one of the troops somewhere in any of those three states would use his mobile phone to see this thread and know that he has the backing and support of majority of Nigerians.

Let it roll!!

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Bares His Fangs, By Bola Ahmed Tinubu by PapaBrowne(m): 10:24am On May 16, 2013
\
PapaBrowne,

C'mon, now you know this is not close to a progress report on the earlier imposed state of emergency. I wish to remind you that the state of emergency declared in 2011/2012 resulted in a spread of terror into Kano and Kaduna. Prior to that declaration, the terrorists had operated in the NEast corridor only.

Between that period and just before the declaration yesterday the scale of terrorism had escalated. The escalation can be measured by three prominent outcomes:

1. The talk on amnesty. If the earlier state of emergency was a success, why then is FG offering an amnesty?

2. The increased and repeated invasion of army installations and high military command centers, police installations and prisons with a deadly force.

3. The Bama multinational force attack.

These three outcomes are direct encounters with the FG and revealed the vulnerability of the government in fighting an unsuccesful war with these terrorists. The terrorists have won international sympathy to their side.

What strategy of success and political windfalls are promised with the new state of emergency? Do you or anyone know?
Seriously, you failed to answer my question. The three outcomes you mentioned are a signal of a weakening insurgency.
I asked when last you heard of a bomb blast. Do you think there is a reduction in the frequency of bomb blasts because the insurgents don't like using them or its because their capacity to utilize them have been severely decimated?

The kinds of attack you see now are random attacks with small arms and these require lots of insurgents to execute unlike suicide bombing that can be executed by one insurgent and have collateral damage.
If the state is totally cordoned for a good number of months, the ability to launch these kinds of attacks would be severally decimated.
Progress is being made whether we like it or not and it can be measured by the decline in the capacity of the insurgents to execute collateral damage with the use of Explosives.
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Bares His Fangs, By Bola Ahmed Tinubu by PapaBrowne(m): 5:04am On May 16, 2013
We need to go back to the drawing board and build up our security apparatus from scratch, we need to create professional and effective crime fighting police force, border and customs agency, SSS and National security agency with real ability to gather intelligence.
Indeed! And while we are at it, Boko Haram would have killed all the citizens. Pleae do you have any idea what it entails to build up a security apparatus from scratch?
What you have here is double speak. And I bet you, it would take ACN forever to rebuild the damage it has done to itself with this useless attack on the Presidents decision to declare State of Emergency.
PoliticsRe: It's Time For The Nigerian Armed Forces To Take Over Power by PapaBrowne(m): 2:58am On May 16, 2013
While I agree that in Northern Nigeria, things have never been this bad,
In Southern Nigeria on the other hand, things have never been this good!

Lagos is booming, Port Harcourt is awash with cash, Warri, Benin, Uyo, Calabar, Owerri, Enugu, Ibadan are blossoming.
Malls are opening up everywhere. Construction like never before. Hotels, Factories and all kinds of new companies springing up on a daily.
Infact, while Northern Nigeria burns, the south has become amongst the four most attractive investment destinations worldwide.

But you are right. The army should takeover the areas that have never been this bad. And that is exactly what they have done. Borno, Yobe and Adamawa have been taken over already with the declaration of State of Emergency!!
For the rest of Nigeria, especially down south, we are experiencing progress like never before, so we don't need a military takeover!
The President declared a State of Emergency some months ago to protect some border states and he moved forces in to kill the terrorism.

The President also commited Nigerian troops to fight terrorism in Mali.

How many of you can confidently and factually give us a report on the progress or outcome of these two commitments?

We will talk about the declaration made yesterday and this Tinubu response but first let us hold the Presidency accountable and obtain a progress report on the previous deployments of army to fight terrorism.

Anyone from the pro Gej camp would like to take the challenge?
Let me start by asking you how often and when last did you hear about bomb blasts these days.
If anything, there has been an effective decline in the capacity of the terrorists to execute collateral damage.
That is an important first step and a very big step at that.
Ten years after, bombs are still blowing up in Iraq and Afghanistan despite the fact that the worlds strongest army has been responsible for the security in both countries. Terrorism, when the populace is complacent is a very difficult battle to win.
Progress extra ordinary has been made. The purpose of the State of Emergency is a complete lock down of the cities, towns, villages and hamlets with the purpose of searching and combing the entire vicinity to rid it of weapons and terrorists. Hopefully after this, there would be considerable decline in terrorist activities. The likes of Tinubu and lots of the Northern elders is the reason Jonathan has not taken this action since.

The tongues of men like Tinubu are Chameleonic and should be ignored. They are salesmen who seek to increase thier value.
Today they say one thing and tomorrow they say something else.
Today they complain the President is not tough, tomorrow they say he is too hard.
Today they say Boko Haram should be dealt with ruthlessly, tomorrow they say they should be granted amnesty.
They tell Buhari & Ribadu they'll vote for them, but print their thumbs for Jonathan eventually.
They stack up billions through corrupt practices and at the same time cry that there is corruption everywhere.

They tell the world that Nigeria is a horrible place to live, but when the world says Lagos is the worst city on the planet, they cry blue murder, forgetting that Lagos is the the biggest part of the Nigeria they loathe so much.

Tinubu should not be listened to. He is a deceiver, a hypocrite and a very big thief. But he should also be respected for he is an astute politician that knows how to play his cards
. His essay is about 2015. The man is a salesman and is seeking to up his price. Its either Jonathan would be paying or Buhari would be paying. Buhari is too broke so we all know whose cheque Tinubu is angling for.
