southsouthman:Lol. Classic response. Whoever is responsible should do the needful. |
PDP should please make efforts to clean up the environs of the Adoke Amiesimaka Stadium after the rally. It is 5 days now and the refuse remains an eyesore. This somewhat justifies Amaechi's refusal to grant PDP use of the facility. Some of us berated his actions at the time, but think otherwise now.

Wow. I commend you and your father for this unusual gesture to let go grievances and sentiments for the redemption of Nigeria. The clamor against the present leadership's inept government by Nigerians from all zones of the country irrespective of their social class strata is unprecedented. Lesson: may hay when the sun shines to forestall running around when the moon comes. The crashing programme by the FG to hurriedly please Nigerians may be too late! |
Impressive. When it is good, we should applaud. Good initiative GEJ to sustain President Yaradua's vision. Kudos. Not good enough to earn my vote though! |
Agbaje trying to divert attention from the main issue but ends up giving us a mystery. If he is unable to pay attention to simple details like date on a letter, how will he govern a complex state like Lagos? The Governor misfired with his public utterance on Agbaje's company not paying tax. However, Agbaje's response would have been kept within the sentence that he is no longer a Director of the company instead of diverting the subject to himself. Moreso, he must still be a key shareholder in the firm, hence the Gov is not far from the truth.. The supposed letter looks forged. |
teemanbastos:OBJ is not God and he is inconsequential except for the exciting intrigue of unraveling truths about his unholy antecedents in the past which has led to the bad state of affairs in the nation. I see this as an atonement for his past deeds and mistakes. This is the much value I place on him. Those against GEJ with the mandate to decide are the citizens/electorate who have been manipulated unjustly in the last 5 years since the ascension of GEJ. |
@Post, You cannot provide measurable and impactful developments in a complex and large nation like Nigeria by the philosophy of equitable distribution of resources as supposedly credited to the President. You will end up achieving peanuts with no meaningful impacts. You will end up with quite a high number of half baked projects because of limitations on resources and lack of understanding of basic planning principles. What I expect is a portfolio management approach. This requires prioritizing developments and effective allocation of resources to key defined zones using key metrics like population, economic viability, demography distribution, nomenclature etc. If I was a member of the FG economic team, for the first 2 years of a standard 4 years tenure, the primary focus (40%) will be the following cities - Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, Onitsha and Aba. Lagos because it is the economic capital of Nigeria; high population density of citizens from every part of Nigeria; high localization of industries; conducive for international trade with a retinue of Ports and water bodies; prone to decay due to the high Rural-Urban migration and concentration of densely populated residents within a limited landmass. Port Harcourt because it is the silent capital of the South South which accounts for most of the oil producing states; notable rural-urban migration; notable presence of economic activities with the presence of key oil producing and servicing companies which accounts for a sizeable percentage of the employment index in the region; prone to decay due to high concentration of densely populated residents within limited zones. Kano because of high population; key economic hub for the north; other reasons as stated above. Onitsha because it is the main business hub of the south east; a key economic hub; high population and concentration of densely populated residents. Aba because it is an emerging amazing industrial hub of Nigeria; great potential to be the China of Africa if provided with a conducive environment in deference to manufacturing of fast consumer-related goods for example, textiles, electronics. The strategy will be to ensure these identified cities have the following as a minimum: - Uninterrupted power supply to industrial hubs during the day from 7am to 5pm and power supply to the residential areas from 5pm to 7am. This will reduce cost of doing business in these cities, improve ROI and attract more investors. - All Federal Roads within these cities shall be mapped out and made astutely good. - Efficient Contemporary and Urban light rail transportation system will be developed for infra-city transportation to reduce the number of vehicles on the road. Car pooling (involves having more people in one vehicle to a defined destination as against one person per vehicle to the same destination) to reduce number of vehicles on the road per unit time and also reduce carbon emissions. - Ensure there is a functional interstate contemporary railway system to these cities from adjoining cities for ease of business and trade between States. - Build Multi level mid rise housing estates with apropos infrastructure to apposite standards. A rent to own option will be considered for civil servants and low/mid income earners in the private sector of these cities. - Build new world class general and specialist hospitals to support the existing ones. - revive any moribund industry in these zones. - develop new business hubs to redistribute flow within these cities. Consider developing outskirts to redirect activities away from the city centre. - clear slums and relocate genuine squatters to a new residential area Secondly, another 10% within this 2 years period (6 months for rigorous planning which will continue through progressive elaboration) will be earmarked for notable moribund industries to resuscitate them, e.g, Ajaokuta Steel, Refineries, Nigerian Textiles Industry etc. Thirdly, the balance 50% within this 2 years period will be distributed to developments in all the other States and Cities within the country not mentioned above. An Institute of Construction Trade for Artisans (carpenters, bricklayers, masons, iron benders, tillers, painters etc) may be located in my State (Ekiti ) for artisans in the construction trade to obtain appropriate knowledge and skills requisite to deliver aptly on construction projects; we will prefer that to the N1b planned for a federal secretariat in 2015 budget. Other notable projects can be planned for similar States not on the A list above.Lastly, based on the measurable success achieved and lessons learnt with this strategy for the first 2 years period, the cycle maybe repeated with new identified cities with similar potentials and attributes as the A list cities. These developments can only be achieved if the FG and the State governments are willing to work together in harmony. The FG will provide the intervention funds and the State Government will provide administrative support where required. Hierarchy and governance will need to be established. The last 16 years of the 4th republic would have been very meaningful and impactful if this portfolio management approach was in use. I felt very sad the day I saw how SURE-P savings are being shared by the FG, States and LGs. The amounts a curable monthly to these tiers of government may never be used for any meaningful development because they appear nominal to their respective monthly allocations. Over N30b was shared in October 2014 as published in the Guardian (can't confirm the date right now). This implies that 4 months of SURE-P savings would build the Second Niger Bridge, a key development, and will therefore not require unnecessary tolling or premium paying by the end users, the citizens or the government. Apt portfolio management is superior to traditional management methodology. It is never late. Trust and sincerity of purpose are what we require to move Nigeria forward. My 2 cents. Feel free to add or comment on any suggestions raised. |
Hmmmm, 3 years after, how have we fared? Same gladiators. Same magicians. Few transitions. Sanusi moved from being the mouthpiece of the enemy to becoming the enemy of the enemy for blowing whistles, then an Emir and now a party to mutual truce with the enemy. Benin-Ore Road is now better but we still cannot find SURE-P buses. Efforts have been made to revive the moribund railway transportation but with mundane locomotive engines and some coaches falling of track. Supposed subsidy thieves were probed; unfortunately, the lead umpire got framed in a bribe scandal and the probe report ends up in trash. The actors are our President's best friends. Which way? |

deletrue:The main impasse of BH raised in your reply is why GEJ has failed. All these conspiracy theories about targets against GEJ are for kids. People are dying daily from this insurgency and the dude in power keeps smiling like a sheep albeit organizing parties and jamborees when he should be sober and lead the war as a Grand Commander of the Federal Republic. I wish to reiterate my stance that everyone associated with this evil and carnage should be exposed and dealt with accordingly. Even if it is Buhari a some of you allege. Fighting foot soldiers and allowing their sponsors to jet freely is the most irresponsible act by this government. BH is a cancer that is presently affecting the NE, if unabated, it may spread further. They have ingloriously left the forest and are now clamouring for sovereignty over towns and parts of Nigeria. This is where my key worry lies. I am not a Northerner but a Nigerian. However, the northerners who are killed daily in the north are humans and Nigerians like you and I. I feel for their plight. Our President is unpresidential with his retinue of dumb media aides paid from our taxes! |
It will be a disservice to Nigerians if PDP is voted into any elective post again in Nigeria. I read every bit of this piece and I am reassured of APC's intellectual acuity over a brainless PDP. Anyone who is truly literate will spot the difference. As an Ekiti indigene I am proud of Dr Fayemi. Kudos! NB: if you disagree with me, please do not expend energy on throwing e-tantrums and insults. ![]() |
malonephills:I have been married for 5 years with no child(ren). We have spent loads of money trying to conceive. My wife and I cannot wait to hear the cry of a baby in our house. Different strokes for different folks! ![]() |
@OP, It is called Abracadabra. Overtly during the day when the sun shines, your citation may be adjudged correct. Covertly at night when the moon comes, the amount stolen is in multiples of your citation thus eroding any gain from the purported fight against corruption. It is called the more you look, the less you see. It is the ideology of the present government. Finally, they have strategists in their fold with the sole aim of identifying half baked projects with nominal impact. These strategists will brandish these uncoordinated projects before Nigerians because they believe that majority are gullible and cerebrally illiterate and incapacitated even when they have certificates obtained through formal education. They are wrong because the illusion laden act of the fedora hat wearing magician is gradually being unraveled through waves across the country. The blind, the dumb and the deaf can see, express and hear the folly. Sincerely, anyone with common sense (no pun intended) will know this is the most corrupt government ever liveth! |
deletrue:Calm down bro. Don't be agitated. No offense taken for the insults. It is a forum of faceless individuals. Some of us believe the future is beyond ethno religious connotations, albeit, we still respect the opinions of some citizens who are still embittered by the chronicles of past events in deference to our nation Nigeria. The incumbent President has not been of any benefit to Christians, neither have the Niger Deltans benefitted from his ascendancy to the position of the Presidency. Likewise, Obasanjo was of no special good to the south west where he hails from during his time. Hence, this implies that the Presidency is not about where one is from or the person's religion but service to Nigeria as a whole. Some of us have assessed this government and have concluded that it is a monumental failure despite their hogwash of being the unprecedented best since amalgamation. Most of the support for Buhari is primarily because people want sanity restored to governance and not because of his past deeds as a military leader. Everyone wants an end to the insurgency which the incumbent seems not to have a clue about. Everyone wants corruption to be abated so that more resources will be available for capital projects in contest to what is obtainable today where they allocate resources for themselves to eat fat and vote nominal allowances for infrastructure. I think Buhari's steadfastness to maintain a scrupulous mien for 3 decades is the primary reason for the goodwill he enjoys today. I am not in total support of his candidacy primarily due to his age but I am seriously considering taking a risk on him than to cast my vote for GEJ. My last resort will be Professor Sonaiya. To the topic, I reiterate my commendation for the author of this topic who has deemed it fit to forgive on the premise of his understanding of the way forward for a better Nigeria! NB: What is Egbewe? Lol |
Firefire:O boy, see traditional divination in retribution. NL is indeed a platform for all and sundry... Operation fire for fire I hail ooo. I no sabi say you be Babalawo ooo.. |
The narcissistic attitude being expressed by these aides is the biggest threat to the any iota of success left for GEJ. When people do not admit they have a problem but go about with self aggrandizement their fall is always very great. With all the struggle in the North East by innocent civilians and gallant soldiers to resist BH, it is folly for any man to boast of success when lives are being overrun daily. The present administration will be the last irresponsible one in our history! |
patrickdarlins:Except my wife. We started when I was still way below. Now we are approaching the top... ![]() |
We will get back to the days when overtly and overly corrupt politicians get the apt punishment for pilfering and plundering our commonwealth for personal use. It is only a matter of time. Hope! |

@Post, When a crawling toddler is given an opportunity to walk and he misuses it by stepping on adults, when he falls, no one will be ready to pick him up. Bankole, a lesson for youths in top leadership positions! |
inme:I was equally stunned at the response. To attain the level of a General, one must be very disciplined. To be a spokesman, one must be very tolerant of other people's views. |
@Topic, If the General was non partisan, his first response would have been devoid of the first sentence. The first sentence is adduced with an implied insult and his subsequent responses are evidences of the prejudice against the personality of the lady, Oby, a perceived opposition. The social media has proven to be a more useful medium to reach Nigerian heads of MDAs, so why should she try other methods if a better alternative is a click away? Everyone has been asked to partner with the law enforcement agents and raise alarm on suspicion. The Army should please tolerate everyone. Too many lives have been lost. No need to throw tantrums at eachother. |
Referenced Bibliography: Post Election Violence in Nigeria by Dr Nkwachukwu Orji and Nkiru Uzodi http://www.placng.org/new/publications/PEV.pdf The referenced document by Dr Nkwachukwu Orji and Nkiru Uzodi published by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre in 2012 is a detailed research, evaluation and assessment of the Post Election Violence characterized by wanton destruction of lives and properties in some States of the federation by citizens who sought to protest and express their displeasure about the outcome of elections in Nigeria and sporadic shooting by the Police and law enforcement agents with emphasis on the April 16 2011 elections leading to the death of almost 1000 persons including electoral officers drafted from the National Youth Service Corps, notwithstanding international observers’ assessment that the election was a practical success though fraught with few elements of rigging and irregularities. Considering that the key gladiators who contested the last election are the same main candidates poised to wrestle the mantle at the scheduled February 14 2015 Presidential polls, it is therefore imperative to review the root causes, check records and discuss lessons learned to ensure that the remaining pre-election activities, conduct during elections and post election reactions are without violence. Besides character slandering, tantrums throwing and heated campaign of calumny against eachother by the key candidates, it is logical that a step is taken back to ensure that lives are not lost as a result of their respective ambitions. In saner climes, this will be the first step if truly the lives of the electorate whom these gladiators seek to vote for them is of any meaning and worth. Sadly, it so seems that the contestants are only interested in the prize money. Empathy for lives in Nigeria is snipping daily considering that a sizeable amount of lives are lost due to insurgency in the North East and limited results garnered by the gallant men of the Military rumored to be caused by inadequate weapons of warfare and if I may add, nominal availability of planning and requisite intelligence inputs. Hence to die is no longer a big deal. I however beg to differ and wish to state that with proactive measures, notwithstanding the outcome of this election, pre and post election violence may be curbed or pruned if the right steps are taken. This article is tended towards concise measures to ensure that no more lives are lost for politicians who will never put their family members, children or siblings on the line to lead these protests. In deference to the aforementioned bibliography, chapter 1 summarizes the conceptualization of Post Election violence citing the remote causes of electoral violence as: Cleavage structure, salience of ethnicity in Nigeria politics and communal tensions – ethno religious divisions along socio-political circles Decline in trust and social capital among communities – inherent and suppressed confrontations between communities get escalated during elections. Though causes may be unrelated to the elections. Culture of impunity – inability of law enforcement agencies to arrest, prosecute and convict master minders and offenders of electoral violence. Economic vulnerabilities – high rate of illiteracy and unemployment among the youths thus making them vulnerable to be used to perpetrate violence. Erosion of trust in the electoral justice system – the perception by political actors especially Presidential candidates that they cannot secure justice in election tribunal/courts reduces the inclination to rely on legal redress hence violent reactions by their supporters. Low level of internal party system – undemocratic processes within internal workings of political parties leading to tensions. Immediate causes that may trigger electoral violence are cited as: Integrity of elections – how transparent and fair is the electoral process? Inflammatory rhetoric – pre-election violence inciting remarks and rumors about the outcome of an election. Institutional changes – sudden shifts in existing arrangements. Eg, the gentleman agreement within the ruling party PDP to rotate power between two distinctive zones, the South and the North. Most reactions till date are attributable to the fact that most youths in the North feel it is not the turn of the South, the incumbent President’s zone. Sadly, all the aforementioned highlighted remote and probable immediate causes are evident once again in the present electoral cycle towards the 2015 elections. Without adequate planning and implementation of astute measures, the forthcoming elections may be a major make or break point in our history. 2015 is somewhat different from 2011 because: some sections of the the North are more resolute that their mandate is being further stolen with the interest expressed by the incumbent to contest again; an opposing candidate is perceived to be stronger than he was in 2011, hence high expectations; the use of social media by semi and duly literate citizens to campaign for their candidates is prevalent, hence information dissemination spreads faster; the reiterated comments and remarks by some chieftains of the opposition that perceive irregularities will still lead to violence and have openly expressed same; the counter threats by supporters from other zones to cause violence if their candidate is not reelected; the presence of insurgents in some areas; and the dichotomy in perception of the achievement of the present day government across socio-political tiers and strata. Chapter 3 of the research work in context, further elucidates on the cause of the 2011 post election violence, the factors leading to escalation and the resultant impact. Chapter 5 relates to the conclusion and lists recommendations to forestall a reoccurrence. In addition to the recommendations contained in the document, I hereby suggest other way forward measures as follows: 1. A detailed review of the referenced bibliography and research work should be carried out by the FG and the implementation of all the recommendations. 2. All candidates with emphasis on Presidential and Gubernatorial elections must be directed by INEC to sensitize, orientate and include in their campaign manifesto that post electoral violence is a punishable crime notwithstanding the perception about the outcome of the election. The phrase must be included as an opening and closing remarks henceforth and they must also state that no life is worthing loosing on their behalf. 3. Resolve by INEC to ensure transparency, equity and fairness are ensured and maintained through the entire process. Methods and processes should be deployed to ensure every vote counts. 4. Deployment of apropos anti riot aptly equipped and trained Police and law enforcement agents in areas with past records of violence and potential new areas where violence may be imminent. Considering that joint efforts are being expended by the Military and other arms of law enforcement, to tackle the insurgency in the North East, proper planning is required to effectively deploy the available resources. Emphasis should be on some key areas of the North and the Niger Delta. 5. Youth Corpers should not be assigned as electoral officers in violence prone zones. Electoral officers deployed to these zones should be assigned from other zones and given maximum security. Others: 6. Need to abrogate and obliterate any written reference to rotational Presidency in constitution of Political Parties. If at all it must exist, it should be silent and should be enacted under trust. The eligibility of Citizens to contest for the position of the President should be in tandem with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not of any party. This in my opinion (i may be wrong) is the underlying root cause for the violence and unrest in the North since 2010 when the penultimate President passed away and the incumbent assumed the Presidency. This was worsened in 2011 when the incumbent got re-elected under the same party that institutionalized this rotational approach to the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 7. Interference in post election tribunal/judicial processes should be abhorred and avoided. It is my utmost desire to see that no lives are lost prior to, during and after elections commencing February 14, 2015. It will be foolhardy to repeat the events of 2011 and expect different results. Let us all be responsible and say no to violence. Let us learn from the lessons of 2011. Let us ignite and spread the hash tag #no2violence2015elections #donotDie4Politicians. https://tonidada./2015/01/11/abating-post-election-violence-from-lessons-learned-in-2011/

If you provide so called schools without sensitizing and orientating the people you have jolly well wasted money. This is a sign of providing basic traditional buildings of education without addressing the underlying root cause and factors affecting the poor attitude to education in some parts of the north. What happened to policies ensuring children go to school? How many pupils have been catered for since the advent of these self help buildings tagged schools? What is the quality of education received at this school? I will reiterate as I have always said, this government is a sucker for poor standards with emphasis on quantity than quality. This government lacks strategic vision. This is what Nigeria needs not counting of cheap achievements despite plundering trillions of Naira. It shall be well! |
deletrue:Sharrap bro. The man articulated reasons for forgiving Buhari and moving on. He has exuded priority for the lives of millions of Nigerians over keeping grouse for the unjustifiable murder of his father by the State who should have been bestowed with a lesser penalty. Reading through the article, I dream and long for a new team in accordance with his suggestions. I am inspired. For those who are hard of comprehension, the focus of the article is the imminence of a new team of erudite intellects taking us to a new clime. Every right thinking Nigerian should applaud this and put an end to the debacle on sentiments. |
Dat thing is no respecter of race. These ones don dey do tey tey... |
@OP, They will label you all sorts. But you have spoken well. We all have our fears about the alternative. But it is better to take the risk than remain with the status quo of poor leadership. |
Wow. Stunned at the passion and compassion expressed by this compassionate man from South Africa many miles away. He is even proposing an intervention by the SA government on our behalf. What brotherly love is more? Here, the aides will advise that the President should continue his jamboree unperturbed irrespective of the results from the fields. As far as the leader here is concerned, he has delegated to Service Chiefs and it is their business to sort, even if field officers complain of corruption, he cares not, more so, the people being killed are not his kinsmen. The inept attitude is glaring to the world and our non-Nigerian friends and business colleagues keep asking us how we elected such a leader. In Paris, few people died and there was an immediate military action followed by a solidarity march led by their President and supported by other world leaders due to the evident seriousness to put an end to the Melee. Here in Nigeria our leader is busy casting aspersions at the opposition because his reelection is more important than the lives lost daily. How did we get this low? |
WorkWithEyram:Na true you talk. But how person go claim say na him bless person, den d person wey him bless come carry the beta frm d blessing give d enemy of the person wey bless am? Abeg make d supporters wake up frm dis fairy tale dream. Dem b small pikin? |
Yam farmers were obviously making money before GEJ. They obviously owe nothing special to GEJ. The fertilizer hype is one of the noise about the insignificant achievements of this government to whom we have given so much but with little to show. The day I saw the full page advert I concluded GEJ's team is bereft of sense! |
Hmmmmm,.. Confusion at the "Tower of Babel". With the way PDP founding founders (Obj and co) and the present crop of leaders expose their misdeeds glaringly, it will be foolhardy for anyone to vote PDP for anything. They completely lack any iota of integrity or ideologies to move anything forward, even if it is a kite! |
We are so disjointed in every endeavor. Our watchword "steal, steal and steal at every opportunity". Without a reorientation, Nigeria will remain bedeviled and trapped in its mess for another century. Dudes, clamor to come back home. The terrain they are seems worse than Asaba... |
