Who cares. Nothing can awaken Nigerians out of the cesspit of ethno-religious sentiment. The news is like bug spray in a tent by the swamp..... pointless. |
No comment. Said enough. |
At least it is a better version of something. Will really like to see Nigerians create new and exciting dishes. Let us try new receipes and oerhaos bring in new ingridients. Creativity should not be limited to the performing acts. The food industry is a huge global market and we are barely noticeable. The Chinese and Indians have taken their industry global because they were willing to innovate. |
Wow, such a different tone from the sayings in 2014/15.... Reality has berthed on the shores of the church and the RCCG in particular. The question now is, how can a sheep become a lion at age.?? |
Not really interested in political alphabet soups of sorts and all these talks of a 'third force'. I believe a two party democratic engine is balanced and the most efficient system to drive this country forward. Four 'strong' parties becomes even more unwieldy, makes for a watering down of principles and programs and leads to an unending scenario of horse trading all to the disadvantage of the citizenry. Nevertheless if Nigerians yearn for a merger to form the third force my only advice is for the Labour party and the NNPP to grow independently especially reaching those first time voters and those who are attracted by a chance of fresh air. A merger at this stage will be premature and the fledgling houses may find internal resentment at a merger too much to handle at the onset particularly for the leading candidate who will have to ride shotgun. However if they are to make a big splash next year the process of growing and nurturing independently before 'transplant' has to be well timed not to run foul of INEC rules and more importantly not to be too late for the glue to dry when the letter is popped into the mailbox. Personally my problem is not with aspirants, parties or elections. My grouse is with the citizens who are supposed to be drivers of this whole process. Democracy is all about people, candidates are merely vehicles of travel hopefully to a better and more prosperous living. Such that no matter how powerful, agile, safe or economical that vehicle is, if the people do not know howto drive or worse, do not know where they intend to go with it, I really don't see the point. Once again we have had 23 years of democracy and six general elections. Nigeria is not fundamentally better than it was in 1999 across almost all indices of life and living. If we do not learn how to make democracy work, if we do not know how to drive candidates and leaderships and institutions and processes to better our lives then all the bickering we undertake unto polls are no more than vain ego trips. For now I am yet to see the value in the average PVC. |
Every government in the world except ours is so concerned about inflation and are making concerted efforts in tackling it to mitigate the consequences on poverty in their climes. Not the one some failed citizens praise day and night. Then they wonder why criminality is at an all time high and the security services are on the verge of collapse and the scarce resources required to reopen schools and save lives in hospitals are used to buy bullets and fuel armoured trucks. But since the citizens will not query them why should they care but live a delusional life of pomp. Is there anyone who will care to ask him in Accra what the situation is concerning the train hostages or captives who have been in the bush for months now and the villains that have grounded a whole national railway line and much touted project of this administration. Or that too is not the responsibility of government. What a shame. |
ponishah:Nigerians just do not know how democracy works to better their lives, praising people that are making their lives worse year on year. And because they do not know suffer they will until they see with their eyes. |
What is wrong with people here. You can see physical evidence of abuse and choose to do ignore it in favour of presumptive provocation by the victim. The same base mentality that has turned the country to a glorified game reserve where life is nasty, brutish and short. |
I will love to see him at Bayern but that will end his weekly screen time at least in this part of the world. |
LegendHero:The headline has said nothing about Zulum being culpable. Why are you guys always so nervous when politicians and political office holders are called out. 'Under Zulum, Borno...' Is Bornu no longer under Zulum or what.... A lot of money is missing and he is the CEO. He is not culpable but he is answerable to quality citizens who have zero tolerance for this sort of thing. |
judedwriter:Haba. The best Brazil squad by a country mile is universally known to be the 1982 squad. A squad that included the legends, Zico, Socrates, Falcao, Oscar, Junior, Cerezo (from which Austin Eguavoen got his nickname) and Serginho. This team was the Harlem Globetrotters of world soccer, the smoothest machine ever to grace the soccer field and were sure bets to lift the trophy.... until they met the soccer bandits, Italy... and the rest as they say is history... |
Shikamaru1:But there is no reason the north will support a PDP southern president again after 14 years of 'southern presidency in OBJ and GEJ. The Presidential zoning thing does not apply in their case except the PDP is totally excluded in the 2023 elections else it becomes a southern party. I heard Wike's interview about refusing to be a second class citizen. What will he say about the ranking northern politicians who have been in the PDP since 1999 and have only a two year Yaradua Presidency to show for it. There is just no way to square this circle. Heads or tails Nigeria loses. |
akphils:But it is residents and citizens of Rivers State that are dying and losing loved ones. People he swore to uphold and protect. Democracy is the accountability of government not to buildings but to people. A governor knowing these things happen in his domain will find solutions within that hospital or outside. He can easily order for the transfer of those patients to state owned facilities if the Federal one irks him. And please do not say state goverments do not intervene in Federal institutions and establishments. The last time I checked states do rehabilitate Federal roads for a refund, do partly fund security agencies with equipment and logistics and even build infrastructure within Federal educational institutions from time to time. It is only about interest or lack of it for the welfare of the people. So while we play silly divisive politics, folks are losing their lives. Why are Nigerians this callous and yet expect to prosper. |
Bankowner:Hmmm..... you watch too much 'Storage Wars'.... ![]() But absolutely right. Its all Russian Roulette. |
Lukaku won't like this..... ![]() |
Hmmm.... maybe they are still trying to get international passports for them and the ISWAP ambassador has gone to attend the G7 meeting.... so we wait.... ![]() |
I thought bribery was a crime in Nigeria.... and he says it on national t.v. and the police isn't waiting at the gates? |
SmartyPants:Time, my brother, time. We must work. |
SmartyPants:Are you for real. All your points are ripe for a shoot down but just this one. Read again the definition of inflation and the rudimentary causes and then relate again to this tragedy. Is it not clear to you that these are some of the causes of inflation in Nigeria by way of overbloated public expenditure and remunerations that do not fit or resemble productivity in any way, shape or form? Abeg you need to sit down and think properly. We are too far from the reality we face in this country. Where is the man going to spend 2.5 billion?... in the midst of wanton, excruciating poverty all around his village? and you want to end crime??... wake up man. |
SmartyPants:Please relate all these stats properly and do not hold them in isolation. There is no relationship wage wise between a government employee and a private sector worker anywhere in the world. A better relationship is the minimum wage which government itself sets, either the national minimum wage or governmental minimum wage. If you want to disperse your argument we can go all the way to GDP to relate the severance package of a Supreme court judge in the US to that of Nigeria. |
Needs to be paid this, '....so that he will not need to work again for life...' Wow, I thought when you retire you are supposedly done with work. That is why he is paid a pension just like everyone else. What on earth is wrong with a simple gratuity and pension, why all the humongous add-ons. What a wasteful country. That is why folks are increasingly been driven into the hands of a Peter Obi candidature that is anchored on frugality and may be the last bus stop to a revolution.... chai, what a waste.... ![]() |
jeff1607:Here's another one. Dude you are in a market place.... Filter and move on. |
Adrian98:Yeah a lot of folks out there are not emotionally intelligent. They do not understand that media like this, particularly one of clandestine identity is akin shouting out in the middle of a market square, just unpredictable the feedback, totally unpredictable the responses, for there will male and female, kids and adults, the sane and cranks and those who don't give a damn. Just take what you wish and move on. When I see folks waste their time and bandwidth getting emotive with those they cannot see, desperately trying to visualize what is on the other side of the screen I wonder. But it makes for drama and comic relief once a while. |
Next time park a late model Mercedes there and you will be okay.... ![]() |
I really don't know when this case started, I suppose 2021 according to his mugshot, but can this speed be applied to cases involving politicians, political and government appointees. In a year this guy has been sentenced. Why does it take upwards of a decade to slam those who are doing far more damage to this country. |
In saner climes Mr. Akpabio should have been arrested for forgery weeks ago. I just cannot understand the way Nigeria works anymore. A government institution is accusing you for forgery and illegality and you take them to court ![]() It is like I forged a passport and I am suing the Immigration Service for not letting me through, shouldn't I have been arrested at presentation. Why hasn't INEC moved for his prosecution instead of bleating all over the media. Are individuals now bigger than the state..... |
Insecurity will continue to spread and consume and more resources in men, materials and means when the basic tenets of conflict resolution are lost on those in authority. I sincerely hope this is not the kindling of another mass casualty event. The government should wake up and use the proper instruments of state to ensure justice is meted out and so that law and order can return in the shortest possible time. |
onuman:Then Goodluck should not have contested for the second term of Yaradua. He should have completed the term of his principal and then stood down for the north in the interest of the party. No one had the vision then to see the problems it will create for the party today in the wider context of Nigeria. That it would be put at a disadvantage when its rival party gets the balance right. This is the problem with inordinate personal ambition and this disease is afflicting all the leading contestants. What 'doesn't matter' today will become a serious quagmire tomorrow. |
EfonAlaaye2023:Every party has its quirks. That of the APC is even worse. That after an eight year term of absolute calamity, it will lose the middle ground with a landslide to start with. No educated man will vote the APC, simple. It has to depend on coercion and bribery to attack the countryside and there lies another problem. It too has a zoning challenge that has excluded the south-east and is intending to test the waters by running on a muslim-muslim ticket hoping its delayed announcement will ease tensions. Where it got its national balance right it has not got the other two legs, micro-zoning and religious balance, so its ticket hangs precariously and is at risk of disenfranchising vast swathes of the nation, again just like the PDP caused by its inability to rise above the personal ambitions of its leading men. |
PDP as a party has no business zoning the Presidency to the south. Yaradua's half term is all the north has to show for its representation in that party compared to the south's almost 14 year rule. Anymore and the PDP will become a regional party. It had to throw it open for a re balance and then to micro zone it back to the south-south after Goodluck was just a bridge too far. If it will not go to the south-east in a broader national context then the fairest bet was to the north. Folks mixing up party affairs with the Nigeria question are missing the point as even the APC are not considering national equity in zoning its flag bearer back to the south west which has enjoyed 8 years in power and should rather have zoned its ticket to the south east and is even considering a worse imbalance of a muslim-muslim ticket. The whole political scene is convoluted making whatever emerging scenario one of great divisions and disorder going forward meaning that there will be no more socio-political justice and balance the way we used to pretend to do. Politicians have sacrificed national cohesion for the new found love of expediency, that is winning at all costs and mixed with greed and parochial ambitions of the leading men, is pushing this nation to the precipice. Democracy should be the will of the people not the whims of any individual. The PDP should go to the people, appeal to them for support rather that box itself into the corner of tin gods. |
And instead of Mr. President to be an almost permanent guest in the Aso Rock Incidence Room or Situation Room (if there is any such architecture there) directing his armed forces against these terrorists he rather saunter away to go Portugal to go discuss about the oceans.... Indeed elections do have serious consequences. Just sorry for this country, honestly. |
Because Nigeria cannot move on from 1966 to 1971, the only country still haunted by civil war ghosts. America has moved on from its civil war, even China that has experienced more than a thousand civil wars since antiquity is forging ahead united. And if we ask, is it a black thing?, consider Rwanda that had a globally renowned bloodbath in our life time is leagues ahead of Nigeria in peace, progress and stability. Please ask the owners of Nigeria why the country has ended with 'dual citizenship', divided between those who have and those who want. Those who give and those who beg. |

maybe you're Alluding to support from his senatorial district. A meeting was held in Asaba for the presidency to return to the south and he reneged on that agreement by funding and supporting Atiku in the primaries. You think southerners are fools, same thing they hounded Jonathan for in 2015, that's what you want the Notherners to get away with. Even if the rivers governor wasn't going to win the general election, the presidency would have returned to the south. You want Atiku to win so in 2027 APC will field a Notherner citing the same reason?
