genkins:God is committed to prospering His People. He will create islands of prosperity in the midst of whatever the world makes of itself. When the critical mass of believers makes for one island of prosperity to join the other the impact will be felt in whatever nation you call. There is no Nigeria in scriptures. What the bible says is that righteousness exalts a nation while sin degrades, simple. What is the fault of believers or preachers of the truth in this. We have a critical mass of wrongdoers in Nigeria that is why the nation is wretched. How is this the fault of God or His Church. Or how is it the fault of God that even His children doubt His ability to take care of them. They rather steal or beg than eat from His table. The prodigal son preferred to dine with snimslks because he could not understand that his prosperity lay in his fathers house. It was a personal choice. I have made a choice to stay in my Fathers House and I am being taken care of nicely. Worked everyday this year despite Covid and surpassed last year in the first week of August because I believe and have no access to steal or pilfer the country, government or anyone's purse. God will be to you who you want Him to be to you. He can be your cartoon character, your enemy, your scape goat, anything. He is my Father and takes care of me nicely. You simply cannot blackmail Him into caring for those who have no regards for Him whatsoever. The best He can do is to call you into His House and into His Family and into His Life. |
B wellmax:Generating what revenue? Nonsense. They are all hanging on with their finger tips making deceptive promises of repentance at the stocks when they know the peons are enraged and ready to lynch them. That citadel of corruption called NNPC should be burnt to the ground and the ashes sold for a penny. They are absolutely worthless. They have done nothing foir Nigeria and caused nothing for Nigeria except pain and regret. |
God's General. Will always be celebrated. |
My goodness. What a life. What a loss. Puts everything into perspective. Folks, invest your time and taste for eternity. You need it. Great personality. Will be missed. Will watch OHMSS once again this weekend in tribute. '....Thy dawn, O Master of the World, thy dawn, For thee the sunlight creeps across the lawn, For thee the ships are drawn down to the waves, For thee the markets throng with myriad slaves, For thee the hammer on the anvil rings, For thee the poet of beguilement sings....' RIP luv. |
DeLaRue:This mentality of reading only a vgerse of scripture to analyse an entire lifetime of godliness. Chief, when you consider these number of panels presently in sitting in all of government, and the vast potential for a lot, lot more due to the dysfunction of the Nigerian State it amounts to a subscription to a world of poverty. Look man, we are at the stage where the only way we are coming out of this national stall is for men and women of integrity offering the ultimate sacrifice of self, need and greed to step forward and right the wrongs. Let someone inspire us with everything for nothing. This is how great nations are founded. This is how desperate nations become great. Mr. Salami is not a pauper. He must have been on government's payroll all his adult life. He can give something back. If true, to loidge at the Presidential suite of the Hilton is exactly why we are in this mess in the first place. That hotel just exists to serve government functions and functionaries at our expenses. I do not think without government patronage they will have survived this long. We need to change the narrative around public service as a call to serve and not a call to brag about credentials, blast about achievements and milk it to our collective loss. Salami has an equal stake in the success of this country. He should take a slice in the cake that has caused so much national diarrhoea. |
kikero:People steal cement from trucks, steal crates of beer, steal rice, steal cables, steal transformers, vandalise GSM masts enmasse, rob ATM's, rob banks, the government through its agencies officially and unofficially rob its citizens daily in billions of naira. What exactly is the point here. Has that my loss or your loss personally or in our businesses ever become a national burden on all citizens and a calamity on Nigerian. Please the government should just shut down the NNPC and get people who have solutions to problems handle the affairs of enterprise. They are not fit for purpose. They cannot explore, produce, refine and distribute. What do they exist for. Just shut the bloody thing down. |
Criminal organisation. Nigerians, think hard. What exactly does this organisation do for you that you cannot do for yourselves. Where do these pipelines run. What value do they add to Nigeria for this massive waste of resources. If you truly owned this enterprise won't you have found a permanent solution to this perennial problem costing you an arm and a leg. Can't you see this tragedy has spawn a black industry of pipeline repair contractors who are certainly in cahoots with the vandals, something that will not exist if these pipelines are truly owned by Nigerians. I don't know what this news is aimed at but in 40 years things like these have not changed anything in Nigeria. Next year the expenses are bound to be higher and still nothing will be done. Meanwhile ask yourself this question. How many times have you received reports on the cost of telecommunication infrastructure repair costs, how many times have you received reports about Dangote's or DSTV repair costs. These organisations do have them but because they are proper commercial entities they donot burden us with them AT THE EXPENSE OF OTHER CRITICAL NEEDS. They know their SURVIVAL depends on them finding SOLUTIONS to these problems so they rather sort it out, absorb the costs as much as they can and mitigate the effects on the products and services they offel. When in heaven and on earth will the NNPC become like this. When will someone give them an ultimatum to stop this waste or close down. What is wrong with this country sef. ![]() |
Yet another index falling off the cliff of humanity. Yet another proof the present leadership is completely at sea. I cannot see anyway forward for this country without a serious consideration about how it exists and how it is run. And I cannot understand how any sane person will remotely consider the present trajectory as anything but grave. We just cannot continue this way. Nigeria is dying slowly. |
Martinez39s:Please, please, please do not drag me into your Messi, Ronaldo skirmishes. I don't do infantile, pointless stuff. They are both legends in their right. However I have a general preference for National team football as being the pinnacle of sporting excellence and that is what I emphasise here as being worthy of commendation because games come few and far between, records are thus highly valuable. |
Martinez39s:Every Continental Federation has the strong, the weak and the hapless teams. Europoe has France and San Marino. Asia has South Korea and Ali's Iran but also has Hong Kong and Brunei. Oceania has Australia and Tonga. South America has Brazil and Argentina but also has Peru and Paraguay. The North has the United States and Mexico but also St Kitts and Barbados, Africa has Senegal, Egypt and Camneroun, it also has Seychelles, Liberia and South Sudan....opportunities abound everywhere. Before the European Nations league Africa had more tounaments than any other continental Federation within a given length of time, until recently South American countries faced a double header in qualifying for the world cup, that is almost two years of qualifying matches, everyone has the opportunity. I wouldn't even consider Portugal at Tier One European soccer powerhouse not with the likes of Spain, France, Italy, Germany and Holland dominating since soccer became an international sport in the 30's, yet this man is able to achieve this in the most competitive Federation in the world. It is more than an outstanding achievement. It is the stuff of legends. A testimony of his sheer passion for the game and a record that will endure for decades to come. |
As science deepens and expands athletics loses its appeal and relevance because the mind that is more enlightened and understands the reasons for things cannot accept what is feels is injustice. What next, they return to Jesse Owens scorching the whites in Berlin 1936 and disqualifying him for having more "fast twitch muscles" blacks are known to have or turning on the Kenyans and other East Africans for their superior blood oxygen carrying capacity or like in paralympic sports begin to subdivide categories according to human physiology. Athletics is dying just as the career of a magician whose tricks are eventually found out, just as I cried the day as a young boy I read an article on the reality of Pro Wrestling and died to that spectacle, every athletic endeavour today in my eyes is either an artificial or natural course of subterfuge. Pity. |
elampiro:To sell to Nigeria at N120 to N150. Highly illogical and remember the excuses then was that in reality fuel was moving in the opposite direction, so is it fuel round tripping or what? from Nigeria to the rest of West Africa and back?. So we wish to know the timeline of events if we are not to say all these confusing narratives are churned out to shape opinion and force propaganda to accepting the status quo. My own is simple. Those who wakeup every morning, bath, dress up and go to work in those dead refineries and collect salaries at the end of the month are acursed. They know the monumental fraud they are perpetuating on the blood, sweat and tears of Nigerians. And no amount of whitewashing will clear their consciences. |
This piece is obviously sponsored by promoters of the status quo and their cash cows in the criminal organisation called the NNPC. When their feet is put to the fire and their relevance in public opinion is collapsing they tactically promote the failed narrative that in other nations government owned oil assets are doing well so.... 'we should as in this case get our REFINERIES WORKING'. While in reality they are dead and cost us billions every year, trillions since they died in the late 90's to keep them in the morgue. When the Dangote refinery is finally up and running together with other modulars I will wait to see the excuses for having a 'National' aka Federal owned oil company that is both player and referee and twists the game so badly it wins trophies without competing. They might as well revive NITEL and NEPA as that is what they dream about. As far as I am concerned the only thing keeping those refineries 'open' is nepotistic jobs for friends and family, contracts for the boys and graft for the fatcats. If not they should just give Dangote the money they spend on the dead and decaying refineries to complete his including the so called 445,000 barrels of crude oil they are presently stealing which this post is flown to tacitly protect. Nonsense. Algerian government refining crude oil ko, Egyptian government refining palm oil ni.... Hiss.... Any Nigerian suggesting repair or building of refineries by government is the stupidest entity ever. |
Legend. |
I suspected that. Only dodgy funds can be invested in an inherently unstable and prone to failure enterprise such as civil aviation. Proceeds of corruption are never expended wisely. Never. It is an edict of life. |
CodeTemplar:Hindsight is always 20/20 but the internet is a great diary of events. Once the APC got into power in 2015 I did say then within weeks of the new administration that they should visit the subsidy issue and withdraw it in piecemeal percentage terms over the course of its four year term. Then political capital was at an all time high and Nigerians could psychologically bear whatever hardship they simply cannot today. However, the truth is that the now infamous "corruption" rhetoric turned propaganda turned holy grail prevented both government and the blinded public from noticing and accepting any other narrative as to what our problems as a country could be and the solutions. I did, and continue to emphasise a faulty structure misgoverning ALL things. I did, and continue to emphasise a terrible lack of productivity as an anchor to our economy, and so on. Corruption does not even appear on my radar because it was no more than a headache and headaches though paralysing are not infirmities or diseases, but symptoms of underlying conditions ranging anywhere from illiteracy and incompetence to prejudice and nepotism. Sort these out and corruption ends. So they had all the opportunity to make these hard but important choices and will have been reaping the benefits if we were not all blind sighted by faulty politicking. The three key important economic decisions the next goverment should make, one again is to fully deregulate the petroleum sector, fully deregulate the power sector and fully deregulate the currency exchange market. Anything short of that and pain will continue for the next century or until we are ready, period. If a yam farmer does not appreciate the cost of the yams he and his family consumes, he will certainly borrow seedlings every season. He should understand that he may not have yams to eat everyday and so should develop a taste for pap as well. It is not suffering, it is wisdom. |
Fourwinds:Very simple. DETAILS. Just as you do when you take your faulty car for repairs. You don't listen to stories, you listen to facts and note the depth of detail. You don't accept MAYBE's which is the preserve of INCOMPETENCE, but a person who can perform will sell you A PLAN, with metrics, indices and a STRATEGY on how to move from point A to B. What we have Nigerians do is the equivalent of appointing traditional medical practitioners to handle their serious cases because they advertise incessantly while the surgeons who are learned and competent cannot advertise by law. Nigerians are not informed enough about the choices they should make for better governance. Sentiment rules the day. I could remember CLEARLY in the run up to the 2015 elections the poignant statements of both Vice Presidential candidates. That of the APC, Mr. Osibanjo was still harping on the anti corruption stance as the main driver of the administration's quest for good governance meaning that if you blocked the stealing of government funds Nigeria"s economy should do well, while the PDP's made this statement: 'that you do not leave your shop and go chasing after thieves who stole from it' meaning that productivity is key and by striving to keep your country open for business you will end up overcoming losses. So the choices were clear between the two strategies. What Nigerians should have done was to ask for details on how both strategies would work for them and for the country but unfortunately sentiment prevailed and here we are today. Personally I have said often that without restructuring Nigeria will remain a basket case and I haven't been proven wrong in 25 years but we can always try and showcase the possibilities of development by doing what is right which in democracy and at the polls is empowering those who are cerebral and are apt for details. But I guess this just too high a hurdlke for most Nigerians to surmount so here we are. Sentiment prevails. |
As far as I am concerned there is no tennis this year. The USOpen is a non event. It is like having the Premiership without a pair of either Pool, City or Chelsea. |
Bloghomies:Maintaining a standard oil price is the reason why we are here today. Oil is like any commodity whose price will fluctuate for a host of reasons and to resist this fluctuation artificially will only result in long term economic injury as we have inflicted upon ourselves for decades aka subsidies. What they go for in advanced countries is not 'maintaining a price' but 'predicting a price' which is what industry needs for solid investment decisions. That is what we need in Nigeria. We donot necessarily need cheap gas but we need to be abke to predict what the price is likely to be at any set point in any typical economic cycle. That is absolutely a private sector thing, not goverment tinkering with demand and supply but consumers and producers/vendors agreeing on longer term contracts aka known as 'Futures'. Such that industry can decide WHEN to buy, at what price to meet their needs. We need to bring sophistication into our economy, the fine tools of industry and commerce that make for long term planning and actionables. Right now Nigeria is living literaly from hand to mouth. That is why we suffer a lot. In other climes the impact of rising and falling prices of commodities no matter how sharp they are are not felt instantaneously because industry will have seen these ahead through commodity markets analysis and mitigated them. Oil maybe our oxygen but until we regard it as just another commodity and not life and death we will never be out of its control. We need to move on. Its has not served this country well. We should liberalise the oil sector particularly the downstream and create a bourse for the free, self regulation of the industry to avoid all thse shocks and corruption besetting it. |
classicfrank4u:Stop stupid lies. Look at the statistics. The per capita income of the average Nigerian and stop making excuses for those who should be making sacrifices and serving as they swore to do. Again, look at the statistics and estimate what the average Nigerian has as disposable income and check down the list to where Cross Riverians rank and find out how many can lay out a tabke like that amongst its 3 odd million inhabitants. And finally please elevate your expectations of a better society because it is just too low. I can give you this for free. The more poor people around you that fall through the gaps the lower your life expectancy and peace will be no matter where you stand now. |
Amotolongbo:Ma', it is a serious issue. This is just a snapshot of the attitude of public office holders, the reason why tariffs are going up and subsidies have to be withdrawn. Simply put. They CONSUME an inordinate proportion of the nation's resources/earnings leaving the source of public investment to loans and credit meaning we are paying their way and paying our way at thr same time at a premium. You can be cocksure everything on that table is not legitimately earned. It comes at YOUR expense. At the height of the civil war Gowon married his wife and apart from the elaborate ceremony in the midst of a famine in most of Nigeria imported the wedding cake from the United Kingdom worth thousands of pounds (millions in today's naira). Folks then said exactly as you put it, that it didn't matter. But hindsight has shown how things like that corroded social morality, corrupted the military as an institution and further inflammed race relationships in Nigeria. The kind of damage this kind of act and attitide will cause the institutions of governance in Cross-River and the polity if left unaddressed will reveberate in years to come. It is highly insensitive to be found doing things like these when you are pleading for understanding for your inadequacies in serving the people. It should not go unanswered as a lesson to those entrusted with leadership. Over to Cross-Riverians. |
Rare time epileptic power is an advantage. If he had to run a Mikano all those years to hide the bodies he would have been caught a lot earlier. |
C lamentor78:Told you folks.. That restructuring was the only way out. A structure without redundancies is a nation in a cul de sac. Since the status quo is maintained, the outcome of any move by government is preset. Any savings by removal of subsidies will simply be lost to a structure that cannot develop Nigeria. Or can they say what they have done with the savings accrued since the subsidy removal 4 days ago. Of course not. It has disappeared into the mire of the infamous status quo. Probably used to pay the leave allowances of moribund Refinery Staff or feeding phantom school children or handed to a decrepit Lebanese to print parking tickets for the 'new Enugu International airport'....just fritted away as usual in this contractor's paradise we call a country. This is where the whole country fails. Both government and citizens, emperors and peons cannot just bring themselves out of sentiment to determine the real challenges and fashion ways out. Just watch how a few individuals will become overnight billionaires by this in full view of hapless citizens totally unfit for good governance. |
Arse covering season.... everyone looking for a rock to hide under. Poor quality citizenship. |
Deborah98:That is not what it is for. All Nigerians think about is consumption. Buy and sell, buy and sell, chop, chop, chop. This animal is for breeding to produce high quality offspring for generations to come. The insurance alone will ensure it is never eaten. It will more than make up for the obscene price if managed properly when its kids hit the markets in years to come in the eyes of thise looking for prime live animals and high quality branded mutton. The mountain of cash is for its genes. |
To add to what I earlier said about political leadership viz the economic realities facing Nigeria, it is clear that the 'cheap and easy', subsidised way of life we have lived for 60 years has not allowed the average citizen know how nations are built (structurally), how democracy works (for development) and how leadership is catalysed. The popular Nigerian saying that: 'it is a full stomach that lends itself to a fight' holds true in all nations except ours where we are distracted by everything else except the cerebral and informed search for qualitative leadership devoid of sentiment. Every other nation has set criteria, performance standards and expectation metrics for those who offer themselves to office except here. That is why poor leadership is a recurring decimal, unprepared, uninformed leadership, leaders who are required to sit for examination (electoral process) before appointment but are given a free pass in Nigeria because the examiners are in themselves no wiser, less competent and donot know what makes for qualitative leadership. That is why this goverment came with a flawed manifesto in 2015 claiming the sum of all ills Nigeria faced was corruption but ever since and for the rest of its tenure will realise the fact is an absolute lack of capacity across the Nigerian state caused by a flawed structure. If it was a cerebral goverment it would have instantly stimulated inquest, woken Nigerians up to reality of citizen qualitative participation in goverment by removing all these subsidies WHEN IT STILL HAD THE ELECTORAL CAPITAL OF POLITICAL GOODWILL, when its political acxount was bouyant, that is in 2015. But that could only have been done if it was a visionary, cerebral and competent goverment. A goverment that was abrest with the real issues facing Nigeria and having the real solutions in mind requiring only an enraged citizenry to catalyse it. Take for instance. If it wanted to establish a probity (an anti corruption) regime in the polity, what better way will you have than 'to take bread away from the masses', get them enraged and have them technically on your side in sifting through every activity of your goverment looking for leaks and exposing any graft? because the suffering man cannot be silenced. But when you donot know how things work in a democracy, how the power of citizen participation delivers dividends you hibernate, cover wrongs and intimidate those who should be your allies in the one and only thing you claimed was the problem of Nigeria. How so ironic.... how so damning. |
I too totally support the removal of fuel subsidy just like Atiku and have consistently said that since the Obasanjo regime when the figures emerging indicated we were as a matter of fact subsidizing ECOWAS' energy requirements at our expense. However the basic reality is that what do you do with the massive savings. This is where I also agree with Atiku. Rather than flush it down the toilet of the moribund refineries (to the tune of over 400 billion pa we hear), the stupid search for oil in the various basins in the north, and other wasteful ventures the goverment and its criminal agency, the infamous NNPC sinks billions of dollars into every year, we can use the savings to get our country and economy set for a post oil reality similar to what ALL Arab, Gulf and Asian oil economies have been doing for decades now. That is privatise or commercialise the NNPC, scrap the refineries and end all new ventures. Oil worldwide is becoming too costly to find and too abundant to control in a clime of increasing environmental awareness. It has the same future as coal had in 1900. I will also go further to completely deregulate the power sector and end all subsidies on electricity to enable a proper market. I will also further infuriate Nigerians by ending the subsidy on the naira. This has been the greatest tragedy of this country since indepedence, the greatest chain of slavery, and the flag of poverty Nigeria has flown for 60 years. Multiple unrealistic exchange rates is simply betting against your own economy, affirming that you simply cannot develop, cannot produce and so you intend to wholly depend on imports to survive. Who does that except Nigeria. Who else worldwide puts its own industries, its own farmers, its own artistes, its own makers of all things at disadvantage to foreigm competition if not Nigeria. Finally, by the hardship ensuing it will put an end to the subsidy on democratic ignorance, electoral sentimentality and make the aspiration for political office a seriously dangerous venture leaving the cream to rise to the top. The incentive for shabby leadership has been cheap livelihood breeding ambivalence amongst the citizenry. That subsidy must end as well. |
I am all for the elimination of subsidies throughout the productive sphere of the Nigerian economy. Subsidies by themselves promote poverty by creating mental inefficiencies and waste. When things become challenging innovation is the only way out and the lack!of innovation from blueprints to execution has been the bane of our country since independence. Where you have half of the economy occupied by retail particularly of imported products with scant value added it all amounts to economic round tripping and a sort of pyramid scheme on its end. But what excites me most is that the easing of subsidies on energy, petroleum and other essential goods and services that are important to the common man also means an end to the subsidy on his civic responsibilities. The time is coming to an end when he takes his franchise at the polls with levity, sells his stake in government for a morsel and basks in his tribal sentiments, religious bigotry and superiority mentality. The average citizen, the common man will now be paying the full charge for his mistakes in bringing bad leaders to power. Cheap gas, cheap power, cheap food, cheap education, cheap medicare will no longer paper over his ignorance and sentiment. He will now be forced to 'school' himself about how democracy works and by so doing search properly for those he thinks can deliver dividends of democracy. All good. More subsidies should be removed please..... suffering is good for the soul. It advances the upright and prospers great nations. |
uruba23:Tomorrow you will be complaining Dangote is a monopoly. Exactly what do you folks want? Don't you think a duopoly is a lot better. At least someone is putting some pressure, putting up a fight. |
Then they will simply not remit anything to the Treasury. The citizens exist just to serve the goverment that already consumes 95 percent of the budget/resources of the country. |
Once again. There are far worse acts of prejudice happening in Nigeria that we should be concerned about. A lot more Nigerians have lost their lives this year alone on account of being in the wrong tribe and/or wrong religion than it will take whites to replicate same on blacks in America over multiple generations. Makes no sense to me. Their very flawed criminal justice system has managed somehow to correct itself. Can we say the same about Nigeria's failed structure. |
ObaKlaz:But for a new team in a new league is commendable. No issue of nerves here. Shows determination and a positive, hungry attitude. I like that. His head is still on his shoulders for a Nigerian. |
